I didn't know there was a French version of Eataly in NYC, although after I came to this location I realized that it's quite far off from the Italian supermarket. There were a lot of restaurants inside but not as many shopping places and it didn't look super cohesive. Either way, came to Liberty Bistro and had a dinner reservation although it didn't look like we needed it as the place was a bit empty. The interior design was super cute with the green sofa dining tables. I ordered the Moules Frites which is always so interesting to me that you would just serve up a bowl of mussels. Either way, I thought that the portion sizes were huge and that I liked the flavor that they drenched the mussels in - very buttery. I also appreciated the green onions in the mix although wish that they had put some celery or carrots in there for some more variety so that you're not just eating mussels. The fries were okay although they tasted very bad when I reheated it the next day. Overall, Moules Frites was not so bad, but I felt like the menu was a bit limited and I don't know if I would come back again for that reason. read more

My friend and I stopped here as we approached dinner time walking around Tribeca, but we weren't particularly hungry. We just wanted to enjoy the beautiful sunset and take in the scenery of the Hudson. My friend works in the area (though now mostly WFH), but she knows all the Tribeca's little gems. Liberty Bistro is part of Brookfield Place and being late in the day on a Sunday, we weren't able to go inside the mall to check it out. We also were seated outside, so being my first time here, I wasn't able to see what the inside looked like. From what I could see vaguely from outside, it looked absolutely stunning and very beautiful. We ordered a round of cocktails (so beautiful and delicious) and some soups. I went to Liberty Bistro for a happy hour catch-up with my friend who lives in New Jersey but works in Brookfield Place, where it was much easier to catch her during a quick trip to New York. I don't know that I'd otherwise hang out in Brookfield Place, a mall in a city where I don't live, but I had a great time. Liberty Bistro didn't not feel like a mall restaurant, but Brookfield Place is a very nice mall, and this particular restaurant had a patio with an immediate view of the North Cove Marina. It was busy with downtown office workers and associated parties, definitely a blue Oxford shirt crowd. Service was pretty bad, friendly but slow and inattentive. We had to ask for everything, and all we got was a round of drinks and some oysters. I took a cue from my surroundings and ordered the Frozé Bébé, a refreshing slushie of vodka, elderflower, Lillet Rose, lemon, and rosé. I also liked my friend's cocktail, the 21 and Over, a spicy margarita made with cucumber and jalapeño-infused tequila, Cointreau, and house sour mix. We shared a half dozen oysters and they were good, served on ice with mignonette. I had fun at Liberty Bistro and would likely go often if I worked in or near Brookfield Place. Having said that, didn't stop us from spending a couple of hours here. Their house sparkling is delicious + the mojito was well done. We shared the shrimp cocktail and the hummus + goat cheese dips. The kitchen accommodated one of being gluten free, so in addition to the pita, they brought out some taro chips. Always appreciated. Like many other reviewers have said, the French Onion Soup is very good. It's salty and cheesey, with lots of caramelized onions. For the entree, I had the Whole Branzino, which was just so-so. The branzino had a nice sear initially, but the ratatouille it came with was piled on top, so made the sear no longer crispy (1 star off). It would have been great if the ratatouille was placed on the side. There were also several tiny bones left in the branzino (1 star off) which made eating a little more difficult. The Chocolate Mousse Cake was not bad for dessert, but seems to be one that is available at any bakery. The decor and ambiance makes you feel like you are in a cute Parisian cafe. I can see how outdoor seating here in the summer can be quite nice. Maybe I'll check it out again when the weather is warmer and the fish is crispier. read more

On a gorgeous Saturday evening, 9 of us stopped by here at around 6pm with no reservation. And you know what? They had enough space to accommodate us. Granted it was indoors. But we wanted indoors. It's your standard French onion soup--cheesy with a lot of caramelized onions. Came here on a hot day and made a reservation for an inside table. Reason why i am giving the service a bad review. 1. Lied about broken AC. When we walked inside, it was so humid and hot that I asked the host if the AC was working. The host said "the AC goes on and off." Yea ok, I'm pretty sure the AC is broken since an oscillating fan was placed inside. 2. Service was not attentive. I had two kids with me so you know that it takes time to settle down (wipe high chairs, put down place mats, clean hands, bring out toys). And all the while, not one person came by to ask us how we were doing or to get us ice water, especially in the heat! 3. Attitude on the way out. After 10-15 minutes without service and the kids being grouchy in the hot environment, we decided to leave. On the way out, one host asked why we were leaving and the other answered, 'I guess it's too hot'. There wasn't even an apology of it being hot inside the restaurant. We put our name down for an outdoor table around 4:20 and received a text just 20 minutes later letting us know our table was ready. Not too bad! My happy hour favorite- the $5 Kronnenberg Blanc- a fruity witbeir from Alsace that pairs well with a $12 French onion soup and those $5 happy hour hand cut fries. If I had to choose an alternative- perhaps the moules frite instead. The cheese on the French Onion soup bubbled over into those sloppy sides that are ripe for pulling away from the ceramic and tasting the pungency of the cheese all on its own. I came here on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and enjoyed a leisurely lunch. The food did NOT disappoint, the server Dee was VERY attentive, and the people and ship watching could not be better! I meant to make a reservation but forgot, and luckily they had a free outside table! I had the spinach and tomato quiche (soooo good and came out very hot, just like I like it), and then a hummus plate, along with a couple mimosas.
