This is my favorite cocktail bar...the blackberry bramble is my go-to...but no dancing is allowed which kind of sucks, but the drinks are definitely worth it, and it's fun place for a date. read more

Library Bar is a gorgeous place to have a drink: real books on bookshelves line the wall, there's a antler chandelier, and cosy fireplace. It all makes for a more classy and mellow bar scene, which I really enjoyed. The cocktails were great too, well-priced and strong. I LOVED that they were inspired by classics like "Lady Chatterly's Lover" or "Paradise Lost." There was also a "Willy Wonka" (children's classic?). read more

I'd say 3.5 - 4 stars to tell you the truth. I'm an evening law student, and my classmates and I have headed out to the Library Bar for drinks a few times. And yes, I know, law students.. Library Bar... you think we would want to get away from the books. Anyways, I actaully like this place for an after school drink. It's mellow, there is usually seating (probably beacuse we get there around 8:30 on a Thursday), and they make strong drinks. Despite the name and the books on the wall, don't expect to be able to read. It's not too loud, so you can have a conversation, and it's a good mellow place to hang out with friends. While it looked like most people do head here with groups, I would say everyone we've talked to seemed very friendly and not "clique-minded" per se, just out to have a good time. What's even better is the Wolfgang Puck's next door will deliver food into the bar. It's a little pricey for the Puck's, but once you get the drinking munchies, you don't mind. Also there's a little room in the back I nicknamed the "Make Out Room" since it's darker, cozy, couches, and when I popped my head in there seemed to be nothing but couples cuddling up to one another. read more

I really loved this bar. Went with two friends on a whim one Saturday evening, and it was one of the better random excursions. I got the Prankster Ale, which was super yummy. My friends liked what they got, and the mixed drinks were decent. And not too expensive. The decor inside is awesome. It's on the darker side, but not so dark that you can't see your friends or your beer (or other people). It's a bit small inside, and we didn't find seating because half of the bar was reserved for a birthday party the night we were there, but it wasn't too bad. People were dressed up a bit more than I'm used to. Parking is not too fun, as is expected downtown- there's apparently a lot across the street where it's only $5 to park if you say that you're going to the Library Bar (or get validation or whatever). We didn't find that lot, so my friend and I paid $10, which I guess still isn't too bad. Was not a fan of waiting outside for a few minutes in a line, but when i was actually inside, I was a fan of the fact that they don't let it get too packed. So it's a trade-off, I suppose. All in all, though, I really liked this bar. I'll be going back, and I'd highly recommend it. read more

This place was definitely memorable... We walked in to find a serious hat party in progress, with one guy sporting a sombrero so wide and sparkly that it had to be authentic. When we finally managed to find seats at the bar, the whole place started breaking out out in fits of uncontrollable coughing, Well, some kind soul spritzed pepper spray in the corner and sent everybody shuffling out. Not too pleasant. Some poor soul walked out, took 10 steps, and yorked 3 times... However, I suspect his problem was more his own doing since he didn't miss a step and stumbled on to the next bar... After all that, I would still recommend this place as a slightly fancy evening drinking hole... can't blame them for the pepper spray incident. read more

haha came here because we got dragged here by a bunch of guys we met at the bar at the bonaventure. For some reason we were really tipsy and they hyped this place up. So we walked, which seemed forever because we were all in heels, down to this spot only to be disapointed. I'm sure its good, if this is your type of spot, but none of us were feeling it. "The books are real!"--Amanda exclaimed after I dared her to grab one as to disprove our theory that they were all hollowed out...but that's besides the point. This place is one cool spot! Once again, motivated to find reasonable parking in Downtown LA, we were drawn to the hypnotic "$5 Parking" sign for the Library Bar. Who was the genius to combine two of my favorite things together-- books and drinks? STATS: Happy hour: $4 Stella, $5 Margarita, Cosmo, Washington Apples and a couple other drinks. Service: The bartender was friendly and quick. Crowd: Mostly 20's-40's business-professionals with a couple of randoms (us) sprinkled in. read more

If I had a library in my house (and by my house, I mean that one-day-never-gonna-happen dream house), I would want a library just like this one. Complete with real books (don't worry, you won't have to read), this intimate little bar sets itself apart with amazing bar food and excellent drinks. This is the kind of place which makes me wish I lived around the corner. Pork belly skewers melt in your mouth and the chorizo sliders were perfectly flavorful with out making you chug your beer after taking a bite. The grilled artichoke was on the oily side and it would be nice if there were some other veg dishes that would cut the richness of all of the meat. read more

Best burgers in LA, hands down. Go here on a Saturday afternoon after 4pm, grab a cold North Coast Pranqster Ale and a Library Burger and enjoy. Or go on a Sunday night around 7, order the same thing and stick around for movie night with drink specials and $2 popcorn. This place is nice because the crowd is a bit more on the intellectual side than the usual spots downtown. The bartenders are cool and knowledgeable and like i said, you cannot beat their burgers. Only thing is, it's small so if you want a seat, get there on the early side on any given night. You can park in the 611 garage across from the Standard parking lot for $5 with validation from LB. read more

I have been to Library bar several times but the result is always the same. The place seems very click-ish and the seating is limited. Drinks are fair but a bit skimpy and I hear the food is good. Unfortunately every time I come here I can not wait to finish my drink and head somewhere better. The bartenders seem distant and I never recognize the crowd to be locals. With so many other and better options within a blocks distance I doubt my opinion will change any time soon. read more

Library idea is nice but there is very limited seating. It's not a very big bar so I wouldn't come with a very big group unless you plan on coming early and taking over the two or three couches that are available. Take Father's Office, add a little nook area of bookshelves, dim the lights a little more, and you have The Library Bar. Pros: Drink selection is decent. I didn't order this, but their Pranqster was delicious! Great pairing with a burger. I ordered the sliders, while one of my friends ordered the house burger with fries, with another friend ordering cheese fries. All were delicious, considering that I seemed to have finished my own food as well as theirs. Oops. Cons: The place is DARK, small, and loud. It's a nice little place for a small get together with a party no bigger than four. There is seating at the bar, one bench table for a larger party, and more seating along the wall with small movable tables. Seating is first come, first serve. Parking is well... if you know LA, you know what I mean. I think I would return here regularly if I was a local. Otherwise, nothing too special. read more

Library Bar...Interesting name for a bar, but I found the bartenders to be a little bit on the rude/disinterested side, and not very helpful as most bartenders usually are. The place is small, and could get packed pretty quickly. The drinks were decent though, and moderately priced, so that does redeem Library Bar slightly. The atmosphere and decor are a little weird...Comfy couches and ottomans, the fireplace full of candles, all along a wall of books? What kind of a vibe are you hoping to inspire? What's better than an ice cold beer, a burger, and bone marrow after a long day? How about... nothing! I came here with two friends during rush hour for a few drinks and a communal dinner. Select beers and cocktails range from $4-5 during happy hour, and the food menu is really reasonable as well. We all shared the Roast Marrowbones and the Library Burger. The burger was really delicious-- juicy patty, squishy soft buns (tehe), and sweet onions and pickles. The roasted bone marrow was really good as well. It came with 4 bones and a side of fresh herbs. The marrow, of course, was sinfully fatty and gooey. To top it off, the bread that's included just happens to be buttered. You just can't go wrong with that! The space here is definitely small. I can't imagine coming on a busy Friday night, but it's a great spot for weekday happy hour. Also, metered parking across the street is free after 6 pm. :) read more

After a night in downtown gone terribly awry, I wound up at Library Bar with my two girlfriends. How we got there, let's not get into it, but after we got there, our night really started. The drinks are pretty solid and I love the atmosphere. The Wellesbourne in West LA is one of my favorite bars and this is like a smaller Welley! The couches are so comfortable I was about to fall asleep, and the crowd is a more laid back downtown type (a nice change). I would only say that it gets really crowded and hot at times, so try to get a seat if you can. If not, then you're going to be standing and uncomfortable while you're waiting your turn to order a drink. Other than that, great place! I'd definitely be back if I was stranded in downtown again :) read more

Been here twice now and I had a good time on both occasions. This review is focused on a sunday night. First, parking is hard to find on the streets so it is much easier to just park across the street in the underground parking (on hope and 6th st.). It is $5 with validation which library bar provides so pretty good deal. We got to the bar and its actually not that packed (well, it is a sunday). I ordered the blue cheese bacon burger which was really good. It kind of reminded me of the father's office burger but i see like FO much more. My friends got the library bar burger which is pretty simple but delicious as well. A lot of people recommend the bone marrow, and we really liked it. It was delicious and they serve it with some pieces of bread to eat the marrow with. Try it, its good. Since it was a sunday night, they had a special on drinks so they have an IPA for $4, washington apple drink for $5 and cosmo for $5 and something else. It was a good deal and i really liked the washington apple drink. I want to say the bartender that night was really awesome. She made a drink that wasn't exactly to my friend's liking so i went back TWICE (I know, im annoying) to ask her to fix it and she was cool enough to do it with a smile on her face. Kudos to you. Another cool thing about this bar is that they show dexter on sunday nights. They have a huge screen was the books are usually and they show dexter. I thought that was really cool for the fans to get their dexter on. Overall, food was good, place has a large collection of books (surprise surprise), drinks were good and people here just want to chill and have a good time. read more

I was with a friend in the Pershing Square area and I decided to yelp a place for us to go. My friend is a big pork belly fan and after seeing they had pork belly skewers we decided that this would be a good place for us to go. We walked in and immediately I enjoyed the atmosphere, dark but clean and nice. We mulled over the menu posted over the bar and within a few seconds the bartender greeted us and gave us full menus to read over while he poured us our gin and tonics that we had ordered. We decided upon the pork belly skeweres and the marrow dish (something neither of us had ever had before but wanted to try). There was nowhere to sit in the main area so we took seats up at the bar. Both dishes were delcious. I do wish that there had been less other ingredients on top of the marrow so its flavor could come through more. The bartender asked us what we thought of both dishes and really appreaciated our review of the marrow - turns out they had a new chef who had changed the recipe recently. I'm not from the area, but if I was I would definitely head back here again. read more

Cool bar in the middle of downtown perfect for a night out after work. When we went it wasn't too crowded and it was for a work happy hour so our party took up most of the space. Yes it's dark but that's part of the fun. Yes there are books on the shelves. It's a big plus for me that the food was good. Too often I end up at a happy hour with terrible food that I inevitably end up eating just to soak up the alcohol. At least here I can order an enjoyable pork belly sandwich, although it should have been served with a side of wet wipes. The burrata cheese was also a highlight and is highly recommended. And it's hard for me to pass up a side of garlic fries, sophisticated eater that I am. Apparently they also show new episodes of top-rated cable shows, a la Game of Thrones, Mad Men, and True Blood on Sunday nights. For cable challenged individuals like myself, Library Bar gets extra bonus points. If I lived downtown I'd definitely partake (except for True Blood--show is overrated). All in all, an enjoyable experience. Just don't be one of those guys who pulls a book off the wall to impress some girl with Yeats or Walt Whitman with your sticky pork belly fingers. read more

I finally made it to Library Bar! I had been wanting to check this place out for a long time for my birthday and graduation party, but I was told the place was very small for groups.... 100% true. We got there past midnight and we had to wait in line. It wasn't long, so it wasn't too bad. I got a Sex on the Beach, which tasted strong... but who am I to complain? Although it's a tiny place, it was fun meeting new people and hanging out in a mini-library. read more

The Library Bar feels like many of the speakeasy places in San Francisco. The atmosphere is sophisticated and definitely not trashy. The bartenders are nice and attentive and are also dressed very classy. My bartender had a nice dress on opposed to the more traditional cleavage revealing shirt at most bars you see. We ordered the special drinks. I had the LB Lemonade and my friends ordered the Cosmo. The Lemonade is delicious but quite frankly, it just reminds me of Mike's Hard Lemonade - but probably more potent. The association here is I just feel ripped off but it was a good drink! The bar was rather crowded when I went, but what do you expect from a place like this. Luckily, we were able to get into it without waiting in line. read more

Checked this place out on a Saturday night and had a blast! The bar was a lot smaller than I had imagined it and there was a lot of people out that night so I felt a bit cramped. But with persistence and a little patience, we found seating at the bar and then moved to a table near the exit when it opened up. Gotta remember to make a reservation next time if I go with a big group. I had a margarita due to National Margarita day and it was strong and well mixed. Also had their Black Market Hef (I believe that was the name) and it was good. Prices overall was not bad for a DTLA bar. Didn't try their food this round, but it smelled amazing so I gotta come back and try it. One bad point that happened to two of my friends that night was that the lady bartender messed up on their orders. One was charged for two drinks when she only ordered one and she was adamant with my friend to charge for two. They resolved it, but that's just not good customer service. The other friend ordered fries and the bartender never put in the order so by the time the waitstaff came by and noticed we were still waiting for food the kitchen had already closed for the night. The other staff refunded the fries and apologized. Felt bad for my friend, she really wanted those fries. read more

Such a chill atmosphere for a downtown LA bar! Dark and cool ambiance with a library vibe given the tons of books on the shelves along the walls! Pretty consistent rotating craft beer selection here. Cocktails are good, too. Only complaint is that it can get ridiculously crowded and you won't be able to find a seat despite the bouncers letting people in. Come earlier (around 9-10), and you're good to go! Great place to chill with friends. read more

My first time here was some years ago when I use to work in downtown and was within walking distance. I instantly fell in love with their lemonades. I decided to visit for happy hour just a few months ago, and again some weeks ago. Their lemonades are just as tasty and refreshing as before. Love the dark ambiance. I've arrived right when they open, and it's pretty interesting seeing the people start coming in after work for happy hour. It can get quite busy. But their happy hour is a must do during the week. In terms of ambiance, this is one of my favorite spots in DTLA. It actually makes me feel like I'm sitting in an old bookstore. The crowd is usually pretty chill, and there's a more "classy" feel to this place than some bars in DTLA. It's a good alternative to the standard or 7-grand. The downside to this place is that if you go during peak hours, get ready to wait in line. You'll wait in a pretty significant line to get in, then again at the bar once you need a drink. Nowadays if I'm downtown on a Friday or Saturday night, I don't even bother trying Library Bar. Only on Sundays and weekdays for me! read more

Coming from out of town, the drink prices were quite a bit for me but it may be standard pricing in downtown here. I got the tequila mockingbird, and I was surprised because I didn't love the taste. It had a spicy almost burning sensation after a sip and wasn't as fruity as I imagined. But bartenders were nice and attentive. There is a decent amount of seating but not too much standing room. The music is good, lots of R&B and hip hop if you're into that. Good place to chill with friends. read more
