I was convinced by the radio ads to try the gourmet sliders at the restaurant. We sat down and found the live piano music and view from the restaurant created a wonderful atmosphere. However, that was as far as the good news goes. We ordered drinks and appetizers after waiting for 10 minutes to get service. After 40 minutes our appetizers arrived. I ordered the sliders and my wife ordered the chicken satay. The sliders were far from gourmet and the chicken was so dry it was inedible...the drinks were only adequate and so I would not recommend this place for food, just atmosphere. There are a number of good chefs in the area, I suggest they find one to make this place somewhere to go for a nice meal in a great atmosphere. read more

I went here with my husband for a lunch date, the first one in months since we have a two-year-old​. ​ It was gray and gloomy outside, but cozy and wonderful to sit inside next to a fireplace and enjoy the view. We saw two big sea lions swimming outside into the marina. I was a little bit disappointed​ to see that the only vegetarian option was a roasted mushroom sandwich, it was really good, but I would've liked to have another option. The menu was very limited with no appetizers​ at lunch, but, the cocktails were stiff and amazing. Overall it was a wonderful experience, we didn't feel rushed and the fireplaces and Christmas decorations throughout the hotel are luxurious and beautiful. read more

The only reason I am giving this 3 stars is that the views were spectacular. Hubby and I stopped in for happy hour to celebrate his birthday. Only certain cocktails and wine on the happy hour section of the drink menu. I ordered a vodka martini, up and asked for it to be super cold. Did not happen. And the glass was not full. Olives had no pimentos! Yikes! Hubby had a ginger cosmo to the tune of $13. Again, 3/4 full glass. And weak! Hubby is normally a "cheap date", one drink and done. He said there was very little alcohol. Disappointed. read more

During our week vacation in Washington this was our favorite restaurant by far! The location is gorgeous, beautiful views of the harbor. We came for dinner with our 6 year old and we were nervous because it's a really nice restaurant. Fine dining but everyone was dressed casual. The ambience is great and there was some nice jazz music in the lounge area. They sat us next to the fire and the window by the harbor. I would say this is a great date place but we actually enjoyed having our son there. It's not the loudest place so with a bunch of kids not sure how it would be but they sure made us feel good about being there! The service was good and the food was excellent! My husband had the bouillabaisse and I had The filet. It was excellent!!! They have a $10 kids menu which was nice and my son loved it. I highly suggest trying this place if your staying nearby. Can't wait to check it out in the summer and walk along the harbor! P.s they also give complementary bread with olive oil and balsamic. And they also gave us a little taster bite of lobster grilled cheese! So delicious!!! read more

Great venue. Beautiful view of Bellingham Bay and beyond. We had their Bacon Burger and a Portobella Mushroom Burger. Bacon burger came with a fresh house salad. Beef was from an open range local farm, 1" thick and cooked to perfection. It came smothered in caramelized onions and a special sauce served on a toasted bun from Avenue Bread. Bacon was thick and juicy. Mushroom burger was just as good for veggie fans. Fast and friendly service. Well kept posh secret of B'ham. A great place to go if your entertaining family and friends from out of town. Reasonable prices considering the location. You can't go wrong. read more

Stayed at the Hotel Bellwether and grabbed breakfast from this restaurant. The servers were friendly and the food was great. Split blueberry pancakes and a garden omelet. The omelet was fresh and flavorful and the blue berry pancakes were made with real blueberries and very light. Upscale hotel with cozy-chic interiors. Beautiful views from the dining room and good ambience on the quieter side allowing for table conversation without yelling. Food was very good overall. The crab devilled egg start was nicely styled and tasty as was the clam chowder. The endive salad was a little off, too acidic and not enough sweetness and would be much improved with glazed nuts instead of roasted or addition of fruit/sugar to the dressing. The halibut was cooked perfectly as were the accompanying fingerling potatoes but the leeks had a little too much vinegar. The fruit tart was beautiful with perfect light, crispy crust and just the right sweetness. Our cocktails were also very well done -- must try the Elder Sour gin & tonic. Our server, Adam, was polite and attentive and knowledgeable about the food and beverage offerings -- friendly but not loquacious. We recently moved to Bellingham after living in several larger cities, some known for their restaurants, and were pleasantly surprised to find a spot like this in Bellingham. We went here for desert and a drink while enjoying the beautiful sunset over Bellingham Bay. We sat outdoors and enjoyed a desert of raspberry chocolate cake and our favorite wine. It was a quiet Tuesday night and we were the only ones there so we enjoyed exceptional service. We observed yachts and boats in the harbor amidst the backdrop of the setting sun. I stopped in for dinner with buddies, and was seated immediately. However, it took me an hour and twenty minutes to get my appetizer of cheese fries. This wonderful bar and grill has some of the best views in Washington State! It has a great, sophisticated atmosphere with yummy drinks. It is a great place to people watch, to be seen, and to enjoy the warm ambiance. A few years ago, I saw actor Ernest Borgnine there. That was awesome! Had a quick bite during a day trip from Vegas. Excellent view from a window table. On a posts advise had the Blood Orange Cider and England Chowder, with Panko prawns, and a side of the risotto. We have some good memories of this place, but it seems to have changed along with the name. We went into the pub on a Sunday. I ordered the trio (soup was lukewarm);salad had no cheese (after I asked for extra) and sandwich was a soggy mess. Friend's sandwich was also a soggy, lukewarm mess along with cold fries. One would think that with a location such as the one that this restaurant sits (right on the water with a BEAUTIFUL view of the sunset!) the service would be top-notch. Unfortunately here that is not the case. Instead I found myself painfully waiting to be seated only to be told to sit in the lounge- I didn't WANT to. Waiting to get a menu- I had to ask. Waiting for my salad- LOOONNNNGGG. Once I got my meal I had to ask for a steak knife. While I don't have any complaints about the food itself (I had a Caesar salad and filet mignon) the service leaves a lot to be desired. Slow, slow, slow. And when the lounge is slow there is no excuse for slow service. Call me a service snob if you will, but I DO expect to have prompt (and FREQUENT) service when I am dining out. Especially when they are slow. I am in town on business, staying at Hotel Bellwether for the next 5 nights, but I will not be coming back to their on-site restaurant after tonight's less than desirable service. read more

I was excited to celebrate my son's graduation from WWU with a nice dinner. The experience was miserable. Our reservations were at 8pm and we did not receive our food until almost 10pm. We were seated near the door to the outside deck and it was freezing and windy at our table (we were inside) We said we were very cold and it was never addressed by the staff. My husband asked for the door to be shut several times (each time a wait staff would go through they would just leave it open). He finally got up and shut it himself all through dinner or should i say "while waiting for dinner" I had the fillet mignon for $40 the steak was delicious but the mashed potatoes were cold. My husband and daughter ordered the risotto. It tasted like unsweetened rice pudding with seafood on top. My daughter couldn't eat hers. We literally could not wait to get out of the restaurant. The server brought our bill and said she gave us a 10% discount because we had to wait, then she threw in that it wasn't her fault, she has no control over that. When I pay hundreds of dollars for a meal with my family, I expect excellent service and food, we received neither. Very disappointed. read more

Came here for happy hour with co workers. We ordered pretty standard fair and non of it was outstanding. It was all good, in the sense that it was hot and fresh. I'm just don't think the items were freshly prepared, just freshly fried and opened if you know what I mean. The options weren't anything fantastic. We had chicken strips with a typical jarred sweet chili sauce, sweet potato fries, and a few other fried nibbles. The calamari however was pretty good. It was lightly battered, I just couldn't taste much if the calamari itself, which sometimes isn't bad considering I'm not a huge seafood fan. The setting is great though and it looked as though many people were enjoying their entrees which looked good. read more

Enjoyed really good Alaskan Halibut dinner last night. Two of us arrived with no reservation on Mother's Day, but seated in bar at about 6 pm. Good tomato soup, but the best part of dinner was the halibut with tabbouleh. Also had Fried Chicken, much better than average. Of course setting of bar and restaurant is gorgeous. We enjoyed our dinner here. Nice view and good food. I had the special, which was halibut. It said it came with mushrooms but instead there was some weird broccoflower stuff. We went on Christmas Day for the buffet. At $40 a head it seemed steep but WAS WELL WORTH IT! The number of diners were well managed so that one didn't find themselves standing for ever in line. The food was well presented and so good. Peel and eat shrimp, crab legs, prime rib, turkey, ham and salmon - all very good and purfectly prepared. Went to Easter Brunch and had a very disappointing experience. The buffet was regularly out of items and the selection was not worth the price. The buffet did not represent the ads that were promoting the day. On a good note the service was prompt and very friendly. The server kept our beverages full and the table clean. I have to say that I never tried the food at this place. We went for the Sunday afternoon jazz on the patio, and the service was so awful we ended up going elsewhere to eat. I asked the server what was going on, and discovered it was her 3rd day. This was no surprise since she carried drinks out two at a time and clearly didn't know how to use a tray. I had called the night before and was told that they get really busy every Sunday so it's not like they didn't expect it. She also said that the bartender was taking a long time to put the drinks up because there were two weddings and he was serving their guests in the bar first. Again no big surprise, they knew they had 2 weddings and a jazz band scheduled and should have been able to staff accordingly. There were 4 in our party, and we were all drinking beer or wine. It should have been quite simple to get our drinks to us, and no matter how we tried to time it to order our next round before our glasses were empty they still made us wait 10-15 minutes with empty glasses. At one point the hostess told us she was helping, took our order, and then forgot about it. Which we found out when she stopped by to apologize. I've heard the food is exceptional, but there are so many restuarants in Bellingham to pick from and I'm afraid it will be a while before I have the heart to try again. read more

Three choice meats and several great cheeses, pickles, olives, grapes, grain mustard and hazelnuts...it truly is to die for and worth the price on lounge menu during happy hour. We wanted to attend a winemaker dinner; there were 5 courses on the menu for $85. We asked the morning of the event if they would accommodate vegetarians/pesecetarians. This would have required 2 changes in the 5 courses: subbing something for the bison, and removing pancetta from another dish. They wouldn't do it. They would substitute duck for the bison, but that's it! When I explained that we were pescetarian, they said it was too much work to accommodate us. Nice job Lighthouse Bar and Grill. After forty years of having thanksgiving dinner at home, we decided to dine out this year so we went to the "Lighthouse Bar & Grill". Where to begin! The prime rib they offered was so tough that it could have been used to repare a flat tire. I've eaten better stuffing in a frozen dinner no matter who made it. Perhaps their regular non-holiday meals are better but we were terribly disappointed with the dinner on Thanksgiving Day. We might try them again in forty years, but not before. read more
