OK, this place is legit. On our final day in Tucson we decided to hit up downtown and grab lunch at Lindy's. We chose to sit at the bar and hang with Michelle during our stay. Michelle was our bartender and waitress. She was welcoming, friendly and made one of the best damn bloody mary's I've had in a while. No joke. After swiping through the Yelp photos all morning we finally made our Burger decisions. I went with the Dirty Sanchez and added the ghost pepper sauce. No regrets. Let me tell you the good first. I came here based on the reviews. I got the Dirty Sanchez burger and cheese onion rings. The burger is what knocked this place out of the park. I would come here for a burger again in a heartbeat. The onion rings were delicious, but I didn't really care for the cheese. They use the cheese wiz (the same one used on the cheese steak sandwich) on these rings. I was expecting an American cheese so they feel short just a little. There was a lot of cheese on them, which kind of cancelled out the good taste of the rings. I also tried the original cheese steak and it was good, but I feel like the meat could have been a little bit more moist. It tasted very clean though. Great cuts of meat used on it. Onto the bad. The bad was I came to this place with high expectations for attentive servers. It was busy during lunch, but our waitress apologized to us for our order taking so long to come out. She said they had a back up in the kitchen. I waited for about 15 minutes in the beginning to get my drinks, then I waited over 50 minutes from our order for our food. I am literally not exaggerating about the wait time for our food. When our order finally arrived, our rings came out differently than we had ordered them and when I went to tell her, she was already rushing away from our table and didn't come back for a while. During this time, I didn't want to eat my burger without my rings so my burger started getting cold by the time she came back to the table. Another waitress came to our table at one point and asked if I wanted a to go box, and she never came back with it so I had to ask our original waitress for it again. We decided to eat at Lindy's because of the awesome yelp reviews. Did I really go to the same place as everyone else? It was packed when we got there. Not hard to do when the place is extremely tiny, maybe 10-ish tables in the there? Had to wait outside for 10 mins (which sucks when its 105 out). Another guy wanted to eat but didn't want to wait so he opted for an outside table. We go inside, and the hostess takes two of us to a table for 4 or more when there's two small tables ready to be sat at as soon as they're cleaned. As I predicted, we had to be moved within 30 seconds to a new table because a party of 4 came in. Not a big deal but come on, lets get some organization. I ordered the chili cheese fries and a single OG burger. The food didn't take long to come out and the fries were really good. The cheeseburger was the MOST PLAIN thing I've ever eaten. Seriously, do they put any seasoning on it? I could've made a better burger at home. It's sad when your fries are the best part about your restaurant visit! Then our waitress...we had her once. And then two other girls "waited" on us (can't really call it that). Really, who was our waitress? I didn't want to leave a good tip for the first one that never came back but the last one was speedy with the check. Anyways, we didn't get a soda refill until we were about to leave. Oh and the guy that sat outside? Didn't get seen by ANYONE until after we had our meal delivered to our table. They completely forgot about him. The last issue with this place: Attitude. I know. I need to write more positive reviews. But hey! This is Tucson.So... If you're not used to a "good" burger, Lindy's may work for you. No doubt, their popularity comes from the wacky names of their hamburgers over the actual quality: Dirty Sanchez, etc... The burgers are very dry, and the buns are cold. You can toss all the crap you want on them, give them a silly name, but in the end, they're not all that. There's an inevitable consequence of eating at Lindy's: the food coma. And not the bad kind, either--the food coma where you want to sleep off the grenade that just exploded in your gut (and bank account, for that matter). No, the Lindy's food coma is the kind that comes with Thanksgiving dinner. To be sure, the amount and quality of food at Lindy's have been vetted. Yet, the idiosyncrasies are what set this place apart from the rest. From the painting of the ketchup smashing the mustard bottle's head in with an axe, to the names of the burgers, there's a playfulness about Lindy's that makes me want to come back and enjoy the food. I guess, that's what I enjoy about this place and what other joints are missing--its sense of play. Have you ever observed a child play with a toy and thought to yourself, "wow, I wish I could be as happy with *anything* as that child is with that toy right now?" Are these the best burgers in Tucson? I couldn't tell you. But they're the best that I know of. The name 'Lindy's' sounds like a bubblegum-pop-50s-diner. And then you read the rest of the restaurant name, "On 4th," and quickly realize that there could be no such thing on Tucson's 4th Ave. Lindy's on 4th is a hole in the wall bar that happens to feature kick-ass burgers. They have 5 tables, all with bar stools, as well as a small bar. The menu includes many different burgers (about 10), Philly Cheesesteaks, and sides. No healthy options, although they will allow you to substitute a chicken patty for a hamburger patty. You can read Amanda B.'s review for an idea of just how good the chicken patties are. Each burger has the option of single, double, or triple, the single burgers are $5 each. I have had the standard cheeseburger (Lindy's Special I believe it's called for $0.50 less than all the others) which has lettuce/tomato, cheese, and Lindy's special sauce. The Hawaiian 5-O is a burger with pineapple, lettuce/tomato, swiss, teriyaki and Lindy's special sauce. It is very sweet. Onion rings are $3.75 on their own but you can get them on the side for $2.25. Additional on-the-side-of-your-burger-for-less-than-they-would-cost-on-their-own sides include fries, tots, and a side salad. The burgers are fucktastic. The OMFG burger, which Jamal so intricately described, includes the root of the word I just made up, so I feel that using that word to describe the rest of the burgers is appropriate and hence not inappropriate. Very, very good burgers. The service consists of one waitress running around to all 5 tables whilst serving everyone at the bar. There could be some improvement on this aspect. The hole in the wall is not the best dining experience. I can get over the two minor inconveniences, but until those issues are resolved, I can't up my star rating. I've frequented Lindy's pretty much since day one, and I've usually always had a pleasant experience. Typically good food, and so-so to good service. But tonight was a different story. I was with a table of four and ordered a burger and a side of tots. Pretty easy. Finally our burgers arrive with a different server bringing them out, but no tots. I notified the food runner that I was still waiting on my tots. And she acknowledged this as if to mean, "they'll be out shortly". Minutes pass, nothing happens. Our original server finally comes over to our table 20 minutes after the food came out, by this time we were all finished. We all needed refills, and I still had yet to receive my tots. She clears our plates and takes my water glass and another water glass from the table. I told the server about me still not getting the tots and she said that she'd take it off the bill and give them for me to-go. She then brings us one check after we told her before we even ordered that we'd be on separate checks. Finally,she returns with separate checks and told me that my tots to-go would be out shortly. Several minutes pass again, and this time the other server picks up our checks and runs our cards/makes change. We all sign our checks, then 5 minutes later brings back refills of the water glasses she took from us 15 minutes ago. Very confusing. By now, I could care less about my tots, but as we get up from the table she just drops the to-go box on the table. Doesn't say a word, and never really apologizes. I also came to find out that my friends at the other table in the restaurant had ordered a couple of beers which they did not receive until 30 minutes after they ordered them. I'm very displeased with the service so much tonight, that I just can't bring myself to come back ever again. I understand places get busy, and service can't be awesome all the time. But there are only 9 tables in the restaurant, and as a fellow server myself, 4-5 tables at a time is relatively easy to handle. Especially at a place like Lindy's where there is no first course and pristine service isn't exactly required. Tonight, however, I received NO service. The server clearly wasn't interested in working there, and sadly I can say that I am no longer interested in dining there again. Some of their more gimmicky burgers, like the one served between two grilled cheese sandwiches, and the one served between two vending machine honey buns aren't as well thought out as some of their less extreme choices. But that doesn't matter, you're ordering one of those so that you can say you've had a sandwich made of sandwiches. The best part about the mac and cheese burger? The mac and cheese. Duh. But do you know why? It isn't an artisan mac and cheese made with love and care and 8 different imported cheeses in a carefully assembled bechemel topped with shaved truffles and butterfly kisses (though that sounds tasty too). It's Kraft. Kraft mac and cheese. The stuff you ate as a kid. This was a brilliant move, this isn't fine dining, and being able to connect with the childhood of so many in your customer base is, just, wow. The tots are good, and you can order pretty much anything you like with them. Want mac and cheese tots with your mac and cheese burger? They can do that. The most ridiculously delicious burger of the week I've had was the stroganoff burger. They chopped up bits of the beef they use for their cheese steaks, mixed it with brown gravy and sour cream and onions, and poured that over the burger. I went when this first opened up. I was blown away. Had the dirty Sanchez. The meat had crispy edges. I bragged to everyone at work about lindys. I had not gone in years and went last weekend. After receiving a recommendation from a coworker to try Lindy's and after reading a few reviews, I decided it was worth a try. I'd been craving mac n cheese and had a serious hankering for a burger. Choosing Lindy's was a no-brainer. This is the second time I was swayed by raving reviews to go for mac n cheese, so I did. I was shocked to find that it looked and tasted like something out of a generic box you could find in a grocery store isle. It was blah. My burger was drowning in it and NOT in a good way. I only tasted a hint of the Lindy sauce. Perhaps with more I would've enjoyed the burger since it gave the mac a little kick. Underneath it all the burger didn't appear seasoned. I guess the toppings are supposed to do the trick, but not this time. The redeemer in this meal was the loaded fries with gravy. I tore them fries up! The service was not great, it wasn't horrible either. Don't expect to be tended to like most restaurants. This place is not like that. I was EXTREMELY disappointed in this place. To be fair, we visited during the 4th Avenue Street Fair, which is surely their busiest time. With that said, I don't think that was the whole problem. First of all, we were told the wait would be 20-30 minutes. We waited an hour. When they finally called our name, I felt like we had won the lottery as we strutted past the pack of people waiting for a table. Once inside, the place does have a cool vibe, It was also nice and cool inside, which was welcome on a warm day. We are given menus and our drink orders taken. She took our order and then we never saw the same server again, Someone else brought our drinks, a different person brought our food and we had to ask the person taking names at the door for our check. They obviously had at least three servers and the place only has like ten tables, so I am not sure why the service was so bad. Both my wife and I ordered the Blue Baller. It sported bacon, blue cheese, lettuce, tomato and Lindy's sauce (which the server said was 1000 island with chipotle). We split a basket of tater tots. I was not impressed with the burger at all. There just seemed to be no flavor. My wife said the same thing. We are not burger geniuses or anything, but we know what we like.The tots were hot and crispy and there were plenty of them. This place gets lot of hype because they have been on Man vs, Food. Lindy's is a great place. Definetly one of my favorite places to eat on 4th. The food is great and the prices are just as great. My only complaint is the wait. It used to not be so bad. But I am happy for Lindy. Business is booming! My favorite burger is the Blue Suede Cow. It comes with your typical burger fixings plus bacon and peanut butter. Yummy! I was super disappointed when I went home though and opened my box. The description of the Fat bastard burger is "Fried egg, bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onion, & mayo on a honey bun". What I thought would be a honey toasted bun, like a butter toasted bun, was a full on glazed donut as a bun. This was not what I had imagined based on the description given. I added mushrooms as extra and specifically ordered no lettuce, tomato, or onion, which they had gotten right, but left out the bacon as well. I ended up eating the patty, egg, and mushrooms by itself with the tater tots and ate the donut as dessert. It was too sweet to combine with the savoriness of the burger itself. Lindy's you are delicious! Definitely a place where you can walk in sit down and feel comfortable regardless what you are wearing and how sober you are. They play good music you would hear on the radio, the tables are embossed with comic books! (awesome!). They have a big screen tv in the center surrounded by ginormous mirrors... Lindy's is a fun novelty. I enjoy the raunchy names of the burgers, and LOVE that, despite the carnivorous atmosphere, they are progressive . enough to offer two vegetarian burger options. This is not health food. Even your veggie burger will be fried. Most of the burgers are ridiculous. You can have cheese on your tots (unlike a certain other late-night diner), or a lot of other additives. This is all the point The Dirty Sanchez and the Two Finger Peek-a-Boo (raunchy names, remember?) are particularly tasty, in my opinion. The Two Finger Peek-a-Boo consists of a burger served between two grilled cheese sandwiches. As a vegetarian, I've never had a meat-based burger there. Friends eating with me are usually eating meat, however, and I've always seen the patties, which never look all that appetizing to me (and, despite not eating meat, a fat, juicy mid-rare burger does usually make my mouth water). But the personal testimonials of my meat-eating friends indicates that they are, indeed amazing. Is it somewhere to eat all the time? Ehh, Lindy's where do I begin. Let's just start off by saying that all the hype surrounding this place comes from the "stoner" based ideas found on their menu that consists of "exciting" combos by "unique" items thrown on-top of burgers making the sandwiches more of a melting pot (or melting greasy mess) than actual burgers. The ingredients in which they chose to use are extremely low quality. The buns are disgusting, the burger patty's are thin and very low grade meat- and the sandwich you get is a sloppy and greasy disaster, that will lead you looking for a fork and knife to clean up the remains of your "burger" or better yet, mess in the basket. The atmosphere is also old and foul, and very cramped- also, the prices are way too high for what you get. Man vs Food saved this place and if it wasn't for the whole 4th ave mentality that surrounds Tucson (where Lindy's fits right in), then this place would have been driven out of business long ago. The service is also hit or miss, they have cocky attitudes and if they don't know (if you're not a regular) then they come off as rude and unfriendly. Ordered the Ninja Burger and it was HOT MESS. almost inedible. The fries were good. I'm an adventurous eater, i'm no stranger to wasabi and teriyaki sauce and this was just a poorly proportioned burger. As I was eating it I narrowed it down to being that the mac & cheese they use is not Kraft-- it's incredibly bland. Seriously. I read here on Yelp that other burgers are worth a try, but if you walk in there with big dreams of a mac & cheese burger with buttery, cheesy, Kraft-tasting mac, you're in for a let down. It was covered with loads of peppers, tons of gooey cheese and a heaping portion of fresh guacamole all on a fresh, soft bun. I should have stuck to my general rule of having a plain cheeseburger when I try a new burger joint but I only had one day in Tucson and it was a damn cold day. I'm pretty sure the meat was juicy and well seasoned but the quantity of toppings got in the way. This place seems to thrive on pretentiousness and has a crap-load of rules that take up a third of the menu. I didn't bother to read them though and decided to have a couple stiff drinks instead (yeah it was lunchtime but I was on vacation and did I mention it was friggin' cold). The drinks were good and, contrary to other reviews, the server was a real peach. No, seriously, she was super friendly, answered our questions and came back to check on us from time to time. I didn't come here for the food. I came here to tackle a M.V.F. challenge. The OMFG burger. And. Well. I planned poorly. We had walked around hitting bars and my gut had a nice little selection of beer swishing around and my hunger was sliding back into non-existance. But what the hell. I manned up and ordered the monster. They had to shut down the oven of all other food order so they could cook mine. It absolutely dominated the stove. When it was down, it was brought to my seat. With a large toothpick spiked down the center to stabilize the monolithic beast. There was ten patties of meat and ten cheese - I think. I decided the best way was to grab handfuls and cram them in my yap. Just keep shoveling. In retrospect - it may have been a better tactic to eat a slice of burger at a time. My way - the messy shovel had grease rolling in rivulets down my sleeves and there seemed to be absolutely no forward progress on the tower. I ate until my stomach rebelled. It actually made a scraping noise. And my plate was covered. As If I had eaten nothing.A true defeat. Food had won. I made it back to my hotel and in under an hour, the food became angry again and I sequestered myself in the water closet until I was released from the prison of meat gut. But it was fun. I've tried to fall in love with this place, I really have. I love a good burger and beer. Lindy's should be my haven of Tuscon. However, it falls short in some areas. Enough that it'll remain an occasional retreat when I'm craving lots of beef. Lindy's burgers are good. The beer selection is good. The cheesesteaks are okay. The chicken sandwiches are good. The atmosphere is quirky and is a good reflection of Tucson's underculture. The menu is weird and creative like the decor and everything is executed pretty consistently. Why the average marks then? Well while most everything is good, there's some bad as well. Lindy's is small. Very small considering it's popularity. Not really it's fault, but even on a weeknight you very well may be waiting 30 minutes plus for a table. Would be less of a problem if there were a place you could wait comfortably for a table. Alas there isn't and so a hoard of people can often be found wandering about in front of the place. Depending on who you are and your hurry, this can drive you away to find quicker eats. The service is iffy. I understand it's a busy place, made worse since it's so cramped. It's a dive so I don't expect to be waited on hand and foot, but I do get more attention at Five Guys and In-and-Out for less money. The prices are okay, depending on what you order. Sides are cheap-ish. Extra patties are actually pretty cheap so load them up. While most everything here is consistent, it's almost always consistently "okay". Things are often underseasoned and some of the ingredients are questionable (like Bac-Os instead of real bacon on the loaded fries). I'm critical of Lindy's because I love a good dive. Lindy's is a good dive but, If one has to venture to busy 4th Ave, wait 45 minutes for service and spend a decent penny, I personally would like something with just a bit more kick-arse to it. Lindy's could easily become this with maybe a bigger space, and some small tweaks to the ingredients and service. It took my friend and I 6 hours to drive from California to Arizona and when we got here, we were introduced to Lindy's. The atmosphere was small, but it's all about the food. The first thing you will notice is the eating challenge where you eat a monstrous burger within a set amount of time. My friends wanted me to eat it and I was willing, but I didn't want to risk the potential heart attack that may have ensued after eating it. Let alone, you'd probably have massive gas from all the protein in the burger. Nasty thoughts aside, I ordered the Mac n' Cheese burger and when it came out, I was definitely drooling. However, the first thought in my mind was how the hell was I supposed to eat such a hot mess? I ended up using a fork and knife, dug in and I was in burger heaven. When the waitress asked us how the food was, I nodded with a mouth stuffed with food along with a smile. This place is good. So come here and enjoy the messy burgers, because they're worth it. My only regret? I should have tried the eating challenge. My black hole of a stomach was ready, maybe I'll come back again one day. However, I had to make sure I enjoyed the many canyons of Arizona and holy, Az has some gorgeous women. read more

I had eaten here several years ago and found the burgers to be decent so I thought I'd try it again for some beefy deliciousness and WOW did it suck. Hamburgers were very small, thin, tasteless and overcooked like they were just reheated in the microwave b4 being brought out. I ordered fries and they were equally as bad. A small pet peeve of mine is when you reach for the ketchup bottle only to taste it and find out it's some inferior brand. Believe me restaurant owners. We can tell !! On the upside the staff was friendly and the vibe is fun but the food just doesn't cut it. Sorry Lindys you're off the list. read more
