Left the office and an hour later made an appointment elsewhere. The 19th street location is very nice, clean and modern. The girls who greeted me at the front desk were very polite. I waited about 3 minutes to be called in and waited another 10 for the doctor once inside. The young lady who escorted me in, was also very polite. I was actually not seen by a doctor, but a PA which is not a problem but she didn't do anything. She gave me her work history spiel, to calm any concerns I had about her not being a doctor. She asked me a few questions which I think I had already answered on my pre- appointment paperwork and to which she scribbled the answers on a post it note. Things were looking up when she said ok let's examine you but then she literally stood up in place, leaned in ever so slightly and said "ok" and sat down again. That was the extent of her inspection. Based on the information I gave her she said I had hormonal acne, which I knew already and didn't have to see a dermatologist to determine. She immediately suggested a few prescriptions and the services they provided such as a $450 peel which according to her (and the other young lady who also shamelessly plugged it) does wonders! The whole thing was very matter of fact, this is what you have and you should do this and goodbye. I didn't feel like my issue was addressed, it felt more like "use our products and come back in four weeks to see if it worked". I think the nurse/assistant spent more time with me than the PA did. The worst thing she did which is actually inconceivable and a clear sign that she is not someone I would recommend or even go back to was when I asked her to see a mole I had which I was concerned with. She responded that she could do a body scan "another time". I'm sure to look at one mole, not an entire body scan would've taken 1 minute (especially for her!) and she just brushed it off. I would think that's more concerning than any other issue such as acne. It just felt like she was not interested in doing anything more than suggest their services. I thought of just getting the meds and going elsewhere for a real solution, but I can't even have them filled because they wrote someone else's name on the prescription! Big oversight. I have been to dermatologists in the past that actually inspect, do extractions and even give you shots to help current acne if necessary. And most certainly will look at a mole which may turn into a much bigger issue if not addressed. I will definitely not be returning and have already made an appointment with a dermatologist in the area that actually helped in the past. I tried this place on a whim but just wasted my time.

I wanted something simple (just in case) and a trusted friend recommended this office, so I made an appointment. Dr Kleinerman was fabulous! She had a very calm demeanor yet warm infectious smile, so it really help put me at ease. She asked me throughout the procedure how I was doing and if I found it tolerable. She made it all seem so easy and simple. I was done before I knew it and was able to attend to my afternoon errands without any obvious redness or peeling and thus no embarrassment! The next couple days I had some peeling just as she had explained/forewarned. Fast forward 10 more days and I definitely noticed a difference. I would get this peel again with her. The office was clean, bright and modern, and staff was polite (what a concept!). I would definitely go back if I were back in the area

The difference was that the wait lasts over an hr, the visit is about 5 min (in and out of the room), and he barely looks at my face nor feel. At least, Sherry closely examine my face. Much more reassuring. If the medication is not covered by your health insurance, Sherry would try to work around it making it cost less. Next visit is in may. Have to schedule two weeks in advance. For those of you who are using yelp via web and not mobile, there is a tip section you're missing out on! If you ask for water, they will give you a mini bottle of water. :P

To summarize, Garland Lee, PA, has been treating my blemish over about a month and I can't say enough praise but to write here. The right treatment, superb communication, great office, staff, scheduling, billing, everything has worked out just right. Their honesty, clarity, being clear about billing, and overall thoughtful make this practice a high recommend. To be fair, minor downsides are waiting 10-20mins/visit (they're very busy, get there on time or, better, 15m ahead of time especially on the 1st visit to process the intake paperwork which recurs each time until insurance is successfully billed), not always getting the doctor, not just Dr. Sherry Shieh who's on long term medical leave her many fellow doctors make for confident treatment and knowledge. I know dermatology is either optional or deferrable, but not only did my situation show how preventive care not just emergency treatment can save pain, emotions, time, and money, but the professional standards of the doctors here have made me respect and follow their dermatological medical advice. First of all, the office is beautiful and the staff is incredibly friendly. They checked in on me a few times while I was waiting, and I really appreciated that. Laura really took her time to explain to me the procedure, options I would have to correct the area, and I didn't feel she was pushy at all. Quite the opposite! She talked me through the procedure which, despite not using a cannula, did not leave me with bruising. There was some swelling but that's totally expected. You know how you get a facial or a haircut and you tell yourself 'wow, this person knows what they're doing?' That's how I felt. On a return follow up visit, she didn't push me to get more fillers and didn't push other products or procedures on me. I cannot speak highly enough of Laura's skill. Definitely will be returning to her in the upcoming year!

When I came back a few months later to try and use them I was told that they "expired" and weren't valid, even though I wasn't told this when I paid for everything. Stay away. I first saw Doctor Howe before my wedding within two months he cleared up my acne. Stress and Hormones caused me to break out so badly most dermatologists except Doctor Howe wanted me to try accutane. Doctor Howe kindly listened to my concerns and developed a safe plan of action to get my skin clear and beautiful for my big day. Glycolic peels were one of the methods he used. As I have gotten older my needs have changed. I want to age gracefully and at the same time maintain my youthful appearance. Now that I am almost 40 Doctor Howe has done a wonderful job of injecting Botox into my 11's and forehead that looks natural and refreshed. I am grateful to have a doctor I trust and admire.

However, you can find yourself waiting a minimum of an hour to be seen by the doctor. Her assistant makes passive aggressive comments to clients and unless you are frequent patient your requests for appointments are answered any time between one week and a month and a half later!!! I guess if you have ALL the time in the world to wait for both an appointment to be made and be seen then she's great. But if you expect to be treated as a valued patient be ready to be a frequent filler or forget about it.
