Stopped in early a week ago thinking I would be able to sneak in... wrong. I left and immediately booked a table for tonight... and glad I did. If I lived nearby, I'd come all the time. The dishes are very eclectic... interesting flavors, combinations, everything of the highest caliber of ingredients. You won't see a menu like this anywhere else... perhaps the name of the restaurant was a good clue that would be the case? Pick the items that appeal and enjoy. Tonight: Sweet Cheesy Corn w shishito, garlic scapes, miso, bonito... Salmon Sashimi w jalapeno dressing, crunchy onion... Papusa w squash blossom, chihuahua cheese and spicy slaw... The Burger w buffalo pickles, onion soup mayo, foie gras, jalapeno chips, cheese. All excellent! Liked our wines too... particularly the Bench Chardonnay from the Russian River. Service from Tori was very good. I've seen some comments saying they think Little Donkey is a little pricey. Considering the quality and excellence... the uniqueness... it's well worth it. I've been here once before the pandemic and loved it. I think I sat at the same table but this time my experience was terrible! I was willing to overlook the fact that our server was radiating condescension and the opposite of warm and welcoming. The hostess was almost nice but she wouldn't give us another table after I kindly asked. The server was attentive but in a pissy I want you to leave way. And then when I thought it couldn't be worse, the assistant waitstaff was literally grabbing the napkin from my lap! That is the first time I've ever had that happen and, really? Who does that? What did I do to deserve this? I'm trying to support local by coming to eat and I get treated like I'm an obnoxious horrible person. I won't say I'll return after a one-time visit for Sunday afternoon brunch. This place is $$$ but not really worth the extra dough. Portions are small and I understand this is a tapas-style entity. I ordered the burger ($15) which comes with "buffalo pickles, fois gras, onion soup mayo, jalepeno chips, and American cheese". First, the burger was served on a lame metal lunch tray with a piece of paper underneath, like what you'd get BBQ ribs served on (at a place like the Smoke Shop). But what surprised me was that the burger was served so plainly alone and pretty small, almost as if it was meant to be a slider/appetizer. Also disappointed that it comes with zero sides, or fries for that matter. Flavor-wise I didn't experience anything outstanding or inventive. This is more like a 3.5. But your drinks are more expensive than your food, there is a problem. I'm not saying the drinks aren't great, but from a value standpoint, it doesn't seem accurate. To be honest, the drinks are fantastic, my girlfriend ordered the grapefruit cocktail and it actually came in a grapefruit which is creative and I preserved the express martini made with Irish cream both are fantastic. But it's 15/14, definitely on the more expensive end of drinks especially considering the breakfast torta and fried chicken sandwich are both 13 dollars. Their portion is also smaller than what you'd typically expect so we had to add an egg tart as well to be fully satisfied. We had a wonderful date night here! Stopped in tonight and we opt for a cute little high top by the window. Let's start off with service. I work in the industry so I tend to keep my eyes on the little things but try not to let them bother me. Let's just say it's been a while since I been to a place where you meet people who truly loves or have a passion for what they do. Which I don't blame us, it gets exhausting! My server was attentive but not over whelming. He knew what he was knowing and was just enough which was great. I didn't catch his name, I'm so sorry! I'm sorry I can be a little critique, you were amazing! And what you did with the desserts were an icing on top because I left it up to you and you did exactly what I would have done!!! Amazing job. I loved all the tapas but reallyyy dislikes the razor clam ceviche and really wished you notice! Again you were amazing but I am too honest and like to tell people everything. Brunch is arguably the most important meal of the weekend, and brunch at the Little Donkey does not disappoint. We were visiting friends in Somerville and they planned the most epic Day of Fun for our Sunday starting with little donkey. Our table wasn't ready so we opted for cocktails while we waited. I went with a Bloody Mary and it was marvelous. The perfect consistency, spicy and cut with a touch of briney flavor from the olives. Off to a great start. We were seated at our table where more cocktails were ordered including their signature "the one in a grapefruit" which, you guessed it, comes served inside a grapefruit. It was explained that the mix in this cocktail changes frequently but the serving vessel is always the same. This Sunday it was tequila. They also have a cocktail that comes served in a flask. Based on the drink menu alone, I was living for the fun vibe of Little Donkey. Alright now onto the food. The brunch menu is inventive- there's a good variety and the dishes are all creative spins on brunch classics. I opted for the salmon Roe bagel which was a fun take on smoked salmon on a bagel. It was so so good! I also ordered the tuna poke which was delicious. The other highlights of the table included a fried chicken sandwich and chilaquiles. They also have a nice raw bar for brunch, and I was able to try the Mookie Blue oysters I fell in love with on this trip again. For the quality of the ingredients I was also surprised at how inexpensive the brunch was! Brunch items were between $6 - $18. It seems like a great place to order a bunch of stuff and split it amongst friends, although we were all pretty greedy on this particular Sunday. Slam dunk for brunch at little donkey. Little Donkey is a cool hip down to earth place with friendly service. I absolutely love the fact that as I walked in to the restaurant you can tell right off the bat that the it is serious business in the kitchen from the delightful aroma lingering throughout the venue. I was greeted right away by a wonderful host. Decided to sit at the bar which is an excellent choice because bartenders at little donkey are super friendly, smiling faces and overall good vibes. Which really highlights my overall dining experience here. Lunch items were standard, anywhere from starters, appetizers, sandwiches and main course. Fois gras chow fun caught my attention right off the bat, so did the fois gras burger. All of their cocktails were wonderful. I wish I wasn't restricting myself to 1 drink because they have awesome selection of craft cocktails that are superb, creative and delicious. For my first time here at little donkey, I was very satisfied with my overall experience. Very crispy & the sauce was awesome sauce. Killed it. Porchetta with Aged Provolone, Broccoli Rabe, Calabrian Chile, & Sunny Egg The egg was SO perfect, yolk porn when I popped it. I moved to central square a little while ago. This has been consistently an amazing place to come to again and again. They've swapped ~10-15 items since I moved here around New Years and keep items moving that either aren't in season or aren't popular. The bartending staff is crazy helpful and nice! It's got a upscale feel while not being quiet or formal. Definitely one to try, and if you don't like I'd recommend coming again a few months later to try some different or new items. I'll keep this updated but the food is some of the best I've had in central (for variety and the execution of said variety). Some of my favorites are the cacio e Pepe noodles, and the sandwiches! The value to price is likely 80-90% there, but the rest to me is the best I could have within a block of public transit and with fairly available seating at the bar. read more

I absolutely love this place. I've only been here for dinner, but have had a great experience every time. The service is incredible, the waitstaff are always super nice, and the food and cocktails are delicious. My friends and I usually share a bunch of plates - some favorites: BLT lettuce wraps, manti, poke, and the profiteroles for dessert. Little Dokey has a great vibe - maybe a tad bit on the louder side when all the tables are full, but I've never had a problem hearing people from across the table. I've been here on a date night, out with friends, and for a work dinner. It's great for any occasion. It can be hard to get a table right away if you walk in so you're much better off making a reservation ahead of time. That being said, my boyfriend and I walked in at around 8pm on a Wednesday night and the hostess said it would be about 30 minutes for a table, but we could put our name down on the list and if we're okay with bar seats we could go to the bar and put our name on that list (tables and bar run separate wait lists). Lucky for us, as we walked up to the bar, two people finished up and no one else was in line ahead of us so we were seated immediately. I definitely recommend this place. read more

My flight had just gotten into Boston and I was meeting a friend over in Cambridge a little bit later but had a few hours to kill and wanted a light-ish meal. Pulled up my trusty Yelp app and found the Little Donkey - high ratings + awesome name = absolutely needed to go here. I walked over from the T station and was delighted to see that had the big porch windows open so I set up at the bar right next to the open windows so I could enjoy the beautiful weather! The place was practically empty but that's because they had just opened for the day - the place filled up very quickly as lunchtime approached! My bartender was very nice and attentive during my visit and helped me select what to get. I clearly had to get "The One in a Grapefruit" drink because yes, it absolutely comes in a grapefruit lol. Awesome drink, very refreshing, and a nice treat! I had my usual vodka/sodas after that. For lunch, I was in the mood for some poke (former Hawaii-dweller who has been eating poke for yeeeeaaarrrs before it became "a thing" lol). I saw they had it on both the raw bar and also a bowl for the table. After chatting with my bartender about the size of the two dishes, I settled on the poke bowl which was the perfect size I was looking for as a lighter lunch. It was DELICIOUS! Everything went together so perfectly and it definitely hit my poke craving right on the spot. Crisp and clean inside, delicious drinks, and an awesome variety of fusion esk Foods. I started with the uni Rangoons, which weren't particularly my fave. Then we moved on to the ikura (with corn bread, maple butter, and yuzu Kosho) and it was an explosion of flavors in my mouth! That was a good intro because what came next was even better! We had the Branzino ceviche with a giant shrimp chip. What a wonderful idea, and the chip itself was delicious. Lastly we had the foie gras, and they did a superb job! We each had a cocktail or two which were also very good. Our waitress was polite and attentive and very cognizant of the tuna allergy we had at the table. Would return when back in Boston! read more

There was no wait and we were seated immediately. The drip coffee and the cold brew were incredible. So tasty and very strong- just the way we like it! We ordered the Pickle Brined Fried chicken sandwich, the brioche French toast and the Quiche. This was enough to fill two people! The French toast was full of flavor and was great! The quiche was also very good but our favorite item was the fried chicken sandwich. The flavor was amazing, with a slight spicy and garlic taste on the very crispy chicken. Solid Tapas place. Yes it's pricey and i think for the price, the food tends to be on the slightly smaller side. Between 2 people (myself and my gf), we shared 6 dishes. We shared the BLT Lettuce Wraps, Foie Gras, Wok Fried Chow Fun, Octopus a la Plancha, Pickle Brine Fried Chicken sandwich, and Scallop Crudo. Fave to Least Fave 1) Pickle Brined Fried Chicken Sandwich - yummo. This was delicious. Loved the soft bun and the fried chicken thigh was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It had nice heat to it too. 2) Octopus a la Plancha - the octopus was tender and juicy. The vinaigrette was excellent. The bright acid helped cut the octopus and really enhanced the flavors. 3) Foie Gras - How can you go wrong with foie gras? The only complaint is that i wished for more foie gras! 4) Scallop Crudo. It was bright and citrusy and the shiso paired perfectly with the tender scallops 5) BLT Lettuce Wraps. - loved the lamb bacon, but the pimento cheese was a bit oily. 6) Wok fried chow fun. Mehhhh nothing special here. The drinks here were just okay. They were watered down? They weren't that flavorful in my opinion. The food tasted fine. The portions were miniature and overpriced. When we asked the waiter for his recommendations and separately which of the two dishes we were deciding between he thought we should order, he gave us the impression that he didn't know the descriptions of and/or hadn't tried anything on the menu. We felt rushed. Two different people tried to clear our dishes while we were still literally holding our forks and there was still stuff on our plates. And it's not like they needed the table, the place was nearly empty. If you're driving there, park on one of the side streets or dept./grocery store lots. There isn't really any street parking now that there's so much outdoor dining on the street taking up what were previously parking spots. read more

Little donkey was not what I expected. Firstly, it was much darker than I thought. From the other pictures on yelp I thought it would be much brighter. Secondly, the restaurant was super noisy. The restaurant is very big but it is super crowded, but to be fair, we went at 9pm on a Friday night. We made a reservation for 8:30 but weren't seated until 8:50. They mostly serve tapas and drinks. I got the stair car and it was pretty good! For anyone who prefers mocktails over cocktails, they only make a couple of their drinks mocktails, juice cleanse and two peas in a pod. I have the say the salmon and tuna tartare was DELICIOUS but definitely not worth $19. My friends ordered a chicken sandwich and the bangkok street noodles. We could've easily gotten a chicken sandwich for $5 elsewhere. It wasn't anything special, just tasted like a regular chicken sandwich. The bangkok street noodles didn't taste like what we expected either. There wasn't that much noodles, and it was mostly vegetables in noodle shape/form. So I've been waiting to try little donkey since before covid and finally getting here was a treat. The menu is eclectic and varies from your usual seafood or Italian food you find a lot in Boston. We may or may not have gone a little overboard but we honestly left feeling pretty comfortable because the dishes are on the smaller side. Also it's pretty dark in the place so sorry for the super grainy photos! We were glad we made a reservation because it was BUSY. Our server was nice enough but you could tell he had a lot on his plate, pun intended. Lots of people bustling, lots of broken dish sounds, and questioned numerous times if we had gotten our dishes or not because they couldn't entirely keep track. Like I said, a busy Friday night but they were moving. We started with the tuna tartare and added the caviar which was delicious. The caviar added the necessary little bit of extra salty and it was a luxurious couple of bites. We moved on to the manti which were good little pockets and not overwhelmed with sour cream. I ordered the burger hoping to fulfill my foie gras craving but unfortunately they said it's cooked into the caramelized onions somehow so there's really not anything reminiscent of it but the burger was still luscious on its own. We also shared the braised duck mole and oh man did that thing fall off the bone! In addition I can send out a huge appreciation for a place that doesn't over sweeten or add a bunch of chocolate to their mole since I feel like that's generally what you find in the greater Boston area. Even after all that we gave in and instead of dessert we went with the foie gras and it was the best choice we made all night. Perfectly seared and served with a mango rice to lighten it up a bit. Overall 3.5 stars. I came with a friend for dinner on a Thursday night and it was not difficult to get a table! Highly recommend to come here for a date night- great ambience(intimate), music isn't too loud- which allows for good conversation without a screaming death match and service was great! Given the area parking can be terrible, but easy to access with public transit. Food was okay! We got the razor clam ceviche, wagyu steak tartare, pupusa, burger and bronzino. First off the bronzino was the best! The best dish by far! I would get it again! Perfectly cooked, with a banana leaf twist and not overly salted. Everything else we had was super salty! And this is coming from someone who loves salt- when I eat Kbbq I only season my meat with sesame and salt. The wagyu steak tartare was not memorable and would not recommend the pupusa. The razor clam ceviche- was a little salty, but has a bit of kick from the peppers. The burger tasted like a really really good cheeseburger. We had very high expectations for this place when we saw the prices they charged for tapas. A single tapa would be on the higher end for a dish at a normal restaurant... and they recommended getting 5 tapas between 2 people! Grilled Iberian Pork Secreto: Rich and flavorful, flavors nicely complemented between the chili paste, the salt, and the pork. The meat itself was not that special. Burger: Tasted quite good, but personally was not wowed enough by the meat to justify the price tag. Exceedingly thin patty means there really was not much meat. Pickle Brined Fried Chicken Sandwich: Very, very crunchy, which is unique and tasty. However, this also means that there is not as much meat as there is just crunchy breading on the chicken. There definitely is something there in each of the dishes, glimpses of delicious flavors and the interplay between ingredients, but I don't think I saw enough to justify the price. read more

I was worried about the portion sizes, but they're actually really good! This place is cute and cozy! Located in the Cambridge area and it's also close to the train if you guys aren't driving. I honestly love this area since all the nice bars and restaurant is just in front of each other. It was my first time there. I went with my bf and his co workers for brunch on New Year's Day. The place was packed and we had to wait for more than half an hour. We ordered drinks in advance while waiting to get seated but we got our table even before got the drinks which was good. At least we were not standing while drinking. After a few minutes of deciding and trying to see the menu we finally ordered some food. I got the ramen congee and my bf got the burger and his co worker the other girl got some shrimp cocktail ( I'm not really sure what the food was called but it was with shrimp served in an ice plate or something like that) the ramen congee was good but just needs a little salt to it, it also has a good kick of spice which I like. My bf thought his burger was good tho it wasn't the size he was expecting, it was pretty small for a regular burger but what can you expect on a tapas place, right? So I think it was still a pretty good size to it. The dining area was spacious and stylish as well. We were seated at a high tables that probably 10 people can share. Everything on the menu was delicious. Service was wonderful! Would definitely recommend if you like tapas and trying very different, new foods. The only thing I would prefer is if the menu wasn't so scattered. However on the other hand there's something for everyone! read more

I don't even know where to start! 10/10. We haven't been to Little Donkey in over 3 years since we moved out of the city... been meaning to go back for so long and were super excited to see they had a patio open, so we made a reservation for 4 (including my parents who are super picky/plain eaters and rarely venture outside of plain sandwiches-- why not?). The Patio was in a back parking lot but was set up wonderfully. COVID Safety precautions clearly posted and very much appreciated. Our server was friendly and attentive, as was all staff. Everything we had was AMAZING as we had expected-- and my picky parents even loved everything they tried. Awesome night and we will definitely be back! read more

Good ambiance, especially on a summer day with the large front doors open. Love how dark and intimate the indoors is, and is probably a great date spot. You can barely see the people around you. Adequate outdoor seating as well. The dishes are pricey and although unique don't quite feel worth it. Drinks are interesting, especially the grapefruit drink. read more

For a tapas restaurant, these were fairly large portions and each dish was a unique fusion with strong delicious flavors. Wait time: We were told we had an hour wait time and were supposed to receive a text message when our table was ready. However we came back after 45 minutes and were seated immediately, next to another empty table which wasn't filled for another 10 minutes. Not sure if they let us eat a bit earlier or if they have a slow turnover rate to increase wait times... Ambiance: Very hip loud setting with young people all around. The lighting is extremely dark which gives it a romantic feel. However I couldn't even see my food and I like to think I eat with my eyes. They need to put candles on the table if they are going to keep their lights so low. Otherwise I'd recommend to bring your own candle. Food: Halibut Rice- such a burst of flavors in every huge! Decent portion for tapas. I enjoyed the saffron seasoning and the halibut. I did not understand the pickled side of vegetables that came with the dish though. Could've done without them. Pupusa- my first time eating a pupusa. It's basically mashed up corn that is fried with lots of cheese in the middle. It's tasty and the cheese makes it filling. It was just one though, I feel that there should have been 2 for easier sharing. Matzo Ball Ramen half size- I was very excited to try Matzo Balls for the first time but was extremely disappointed when the half size portion only came with 1 Matzo Ball. I was satisfied with the portion size and the amount of different ingredients in the dish. The broth was rich and there were a great amount of noodles. It even includes a soft boiled egg. Wish there were at least 2 Matzo balls in the ramen for sharing. Especially since sharing is encouraged here. Grapefruit drink- amazing. Sweet but tart and with a colorful presentation. There was too much ice for my taste. Service: The service was excellent but one server kept asking if we were done with our plates when we still had half a pupusa left etc. Maybe she couldn't see in the dim lighting but it got irritating. read more
