The Little Goose is a hidden gem. They have a wonderful menu with excellent specials every day. Their soups are amazingly good. Sometimes, we just pick up a couple of quarts to take home. You can sit in the bar which is very nice, or in the dining room, which in the summertime has huge doors that can open up to the outside. Very hit or miss. I'll start off by saying the hot and moody chips are EXCELLENT! Fresh homemade chips, delicious gorgonzola sauce, topped with yummy balsamic and scallions. Sounds a little weird but trust me they are awesome. That said, there are some frozen things on the menu that honestly aren't worth it. I asked if the calamari was fresh or frozen, and was told it was frozen, so I got the chicken littles instead (chicken and waffles). I would have liked for the server to warn me that the chicken was frozen too. It was mediocre, frozen chicken nuggets. Oh well. Also, the menu says it's served with VT maple syrup but it was definitely artificial syrup. Disappointing. For the record, the waffle was excellent. For a nice place, I'd prefer a smaller menu if it meant fresh food. I can get frozen food at the grocery store. Oh and the bus boy was really attentive with topping off our waters. Went for a Sunday Brunch and the food was great. The restaurant was very nice but the atmosphere was low key laidback, perfect for a Sunday. Even had a 2 piece band which was perfect, and not loud (my table was closest to them and could hear my companion easily). Will definitely go back. read more

It's been a while since I've been here. The last time I stopped in I was terribly disappointed with the service but I am glad to say that things seem to be looking up. We wanted to have lunch near home so we decided to give them a try. First of all the expansion was done really well. Really nice decor. As far as our lunch I had the Jack Black Burger and my girlfriend had the Rigatoni. The burger was made perfectly served on an English muffin. I would have liked the English muffin to have been toasted a bit more but it was good. The Rigatoni was really delicious and flavorful. It was a very large portion, enough to bring home for lunch the next day. The restaurant was nicely decorated a bit on the rustic side but very nice. A bit on the dark side but not bad at all , pretty good mood lighting. I am glad to see the service seems to have improved since my last review. The staff was I think we will go back. very attentive but not overbearing. They were very friendly and quick to check in on us for more drinks and any other needs. This restaurant was a convenient location to the highway. It is a delightful popular restaurant , very busy even on a Saturday morning. We were lucky to get a reservation since they were busy with 2 different parties. The main room had 6 smaller height tables and a longer higher row of tables that easily can be put together. This room also has a populated bar . They have a regular menu as well as a special brunch menu. I had the lobster Eggs Benedict. The lobster amounts as a lot and was extremely delicious. My only complaint was that there was no Hollandaise sauce only egg yolks over the top of the lobster. Our family had a variety of the salads, waffles and chicken bites. The home fries were crispy and delicious. A small fruit salad also garnished the plate. Our soups before - seafood chowder and French onion soup were delicious! The staff was extremely attentive and they worked well together -taking orders and delivering the food to the tables, as well as clearing the tables. We are glad we found this restaurant since it is exactly 1/2 way between my daughter in Queens NY and us in Bloomfield CT. We will return!! read more

We basically come here all the time. Can I just say hands down how much I adore this place! They have the recipe down for "Cheers!" You can find me here for brunch or dinner. Laura knows how to provide exceptional service, and we simply order her. Everything here is good. From brunch to dinner the menu offers something for everyone. Portion sizes are generous, so you can share with your table. My newest brunch obsession is the Crunchy French Toast. It is $12.95 and is served with cinnamon, corn flakes, with warm Vermont maple syrup & roasted fingerling potatoes & onions, side of bacon or sausage. I opted for the fresh fruit. However, there French Toast is a must try. They also have live music during brunch & sometimes at dinner. I simply enjoy everything about Little Goose, and I'm sure anyone who tries them once, will continue coming back - because they are just that!! I normally am a regular for Brunch at The Little Goose. Once in a while we'll pop in for dinner. Dinner is popping, the specials are popping!!! Tonight it was popping!!!!! We started at the bar, and shared a few hugs and kisses with a familiar face, and her friends. Two cocktails later, we were sat. We ordered from the evening specials. Off the chart a hit. WE hope the mushroom soup makes further appearances. Rather than a cream soup think a mushroom broth - simply delicious! Food is excellent ... BUT!!! Service has alot to be desired unless you're a regular. We had 3 waiters. No one asked us how our food was. We had to ask 2x to get silverware and a drink. We were left waiting with food sitting on the table in front of us for at least 10-15 minutes. Staring at your plate SITTING IN FRONT OF YOU for 15 minutes is NOT a pleasant experience. read more

This restaurant is quaint and cute. Service was great. Love the fact they have a ton of options for small plates. The chips were crispy and complimented by the blue cheese and balsamic sauce. The chicken provided a necessary heat kick against the creamy mashed potatoes. The seafood chowder was also creamy as to be expected and chock full of fresh seafood. I definitely enjoyed this place! Although the inside is small there is a large white tent in the back parking lot. Underneath the tent was spacious and comfortable and looked like an outdoor patio. The menu was diverse and my husband and I ordered a Fish Basket and Baja Fish Tacos. The tacos were delicious and fresh and they prepared my side of vegetable exactly how I ordered. I typically don't frequent Fairfield for a week night out, but decided to switch it up since it was restaurant week. I had perused all of the menus for each of the participating restaurants and Little Goose and another place were my top two choices. Little Goose was the winner when I did some research and saw it was small/quaint, rustic and had some unique character to the ambiance. When I called to make a reservation, I was pleasantly informed by the staff on the phone that although they only have 10 tables plus bar seating, there is usually not a huge wait and they can usually accomodate walk ins and also informally can accept call ahead seating. The wine list was varied and diverse, and the three course menu for restaurant week had many delicious choices. We shared our two apps (spring rolls and calamari) and I had the beef stew for a main entree (amazingly tender, completely melted in my mouth and large enough to take half home with me). We learned that several of their desserts are made by the owner and had a tough time choosing. I went with the chocolate chip and blueberry bread pudding...not something I would normally go for, but so glad I did. It was outstanding. Our server was friendly and helpful, she offered a taste of their on tap "house" beers and made some suggestions from the wine list. Service was professional and efficient, but not nearly rushed. This is a great spot for a lunch/dinner date, brunch or a drink/happy hour at the bar. I'm hoping to come back again soon for one of those. read more

Entered with a guest, and was told to seat myself. Dining room was full at 1230 on a Wednesday. Server was there quickly to take our orders. I chose a side salad with my fish tacos. They both arrived on a hot plate. I tried the hot, wilted salad but it was pretty bad. The fish tacos were worse. I'd ordered them before at Little Goose but these were unlike those I'd previously enjoyed. These were stuffed with salsa. They were a little difficult to lift and eat gracefully so I tried eating them with a knife and fork. I found the small bit of dry, tasteless fish covered with chunks of cold salsa. I left it all on my plate. When the waitress asked if I wanted to take it home, I politely said no. She then went on to ask me if there was anything wrong with it. I answered that the fish was a little dry. And that was it. No apology. Then why ask? We then paid our bill and sat for a bit, talking. The patio area was empty except for us two. They never came back to check on us. No refill of waters. No offer of coffee or drink. Nothing.. I've been going to Little Goose for years. Don't know what's happening now but I'm happy to go elsewhere. Would seriously not recommend their food. read more

My family and I went in there and told them we wanted a table for 5. She said the wait was 20 minutes, which we said we had no problem waiting for a table. There was a table being cleared and we definitely thought that was going to be our table but this woman waltzed in and took it. We were told that she called ahead and made a reservation (for 4) even though we were told you couldn't make a reservation if your party is under 6 people. They received special treatment just because they are friends with the owner. Unbelievable! This was definitely not the way for them to handle the situation. read more

My mom who is a tough critic loved her tuna melt. Last night I came with my husband for dinner. We ordered the nachos. They were so good and loaded that we didn't order any dinner! My Aunt's salmon looked great-cooked medium as requested, but boc choy and sticky rice looked dull, aided by extra sauce provided as requested. This place has always been a go to for me. I'm back in town and was excited to have their nachos and calamari again. Everything was as delicious as I remembered. They even expanded the restaurant so it's not quite so cramped any more! The place looks great. The service however, was less than impressive. We were served by a blonde woman who was very short with us. We felt rushed even though there were only two other parties in the restaurant that afternoon. I went to use the bathroom and my friend asked for the bill. When I came back I decided to look at the menu for dessert. My head was down and my hand was on the menu and the server snatched it off the table! I really enjoyed my lunch today here. I chose well for a spot off the interstate. It was pretty busy for a late lunch, but I was served promptly by the bartender. She was very pleasant and always had a smile, which is not too common in my many dining experiences. I went for the kale / sausage soup of the day and was thrilled it came not as crewmen based. My hangar steak had no flavor and was cooked medium when I ordered medium rare. The other diner ordered theirs medium and it came out one shade above raw. Baked clam appetizer was unimpressive. Clam bits were overly chewy and too much breading. Place was packed so people must really like it. 2 stars for food. An extra star for atmosphere and the pleasant staff. This warm and convivial little gem is easy to miss if you don't know where to look. From the moment you walk through the front door, you immediately feel put at ease and relaxed, feeling as though you may have entered your friend or relatives home and are standing in their doorway. Every comfort is paid attention to and well thought out, from the gas fireplace near the bar to keep you warm as you tuck into an inviting bowl of gooey and cheesey onion soup, the coat rack in the foyer, to the bag hooks under your table. While it is small, the front of the house never feels claustrophobic, but rather is warm and inviting, with a distinctive upbeat energy to it, especially when a string jazz group is playing live music. Pay attention to the plaque by the outside door, it'll give you a good chuckle! The bar has a good selection of drinks and wine to choose from, and so far, I've yet to have a drink that disappointed! The menu, while not often updated, is modern and tasty, offering a range of delicious selections to tempt the palate. To date, my fiancé and I have dined here on at least a dozen different occasions and we had seldom been disappointed. Any issues that we had were promptly and efficiently addressed by the casual but professional wait staff. My personal favorites are: the Beet Salad, which offers a pleasing balance of earthy tones from the beets, and the sharp sweet and sour contrast from the sherry vinaigrette and a sweetly satisfying crunchiness from the candied nuts and creamy goat cheese; the Moody Chips, which on the surface sound a little odd but once you've had them you'll never pass them up; the Chicken Milanese which has to be the crispiest chicken schnitzel that I've ever had outside of a German Master Chef at a schnitzel house I used to occasionally dine at when I lived in NJ. The Steak Frites is unforgettable and makes you crave more with each well cooked bite. The chef does offer specials though I am unsure if they are daily or weekly, however they do need to take a little time and think these out as at times, the specials had seemed to follow a theme (all latin, or all coastal, etc) My fiancé and I will be back again and again!
