It's like it was meant to be. Pennies for the Penney Farms Princess!

If you're looking for the kind of place that feels like a warm hug with a side of perfectly cooked food, Little Star Diner is it. It's effortless Montana charm with a creative, elevated twist. The menu is thoughtful and fresh, with locally sourced ingredients that you can truly taste in every bite. Everything felt intentional and beautifully prepared. Little Star Diner absolutely shines.

    Fried carrots and broccolini

Came here for a nice "family" dinner for the first night we were in town, and with some reservations they were able to handle our group of 14 just fine. Wait staff was very informative and helpful, and let us know that much of what they make is locally sourced which I always find to be a nice little added touch. That being said, that means the menu often rotates, so hopefully you get lucky and get the same great meals we did! Decor is very modern, we sat on the rooftop which was delightful on a coolish evening, but there are also inside options. To start with drinks, we split a bottle of High Plains Drifter, a sparkling apple cider which was delightful and nearly was reminiscent of a light white wine. Then for appetizers we had the grilled sourdough and fried carrots with broccolini, and let me say, those were some of the best veggies I've ever tried. For mains I had the potato gnocchi and I tried the spicy noodle salad. The gnocchi is a bit rich but delicious and the spicy noodle salad lives up to its name and got a few of my friends a little choked up, but that isn't too say it wasn't very fresh and flavorful. I also tried the anise ice cream, which as I might have expected, wasn't for me, but that's personal taste, I don't like licorice, but I can tell the quality is there if you are one who likes to partake.

Food & Service are great. Even went back a second night just for desert. Would definitely recommend.

I can't even explain how amazing the food was! Here are some photos. Everything was perfect and so good. I haven't tasted food like this in so long. So beautifully crafted! They also accommodated my dairy allergy. We sat at the bar and watched them cook which made it even more special !

    Sourdough Pita Mezze Plate

When we saw that this place was called "diner," we expected a much different vibe. We were very pleasantly surprised. My sister and I made a reservation for a Thursday PM and this place was pretty packed upon entering, so I am glad we did. We ordered the Sourdough Pita Mezze Plate as a starter to share. Each item was well curated. The little orange tomatoes were so perfectly sweet. The pita bread and the hummus with chili oil was divine. For a main course, we ordered 2 dishes to share between the two of us -- the organic double cheeseburger and the gnocchi + matsutake mushrooms. The burger was simple, but very nicely done. The gnocchi was so pillowy and melted in our mouths. The matsutake mushrooms were also delicious and have a meat-like texture. I wanted a glass of wine, but the price at $14/$15 per glass felt a little steep. I ended up getting a beer instead. Overall great experience!

Excellent food, atmosphere, and service! The waitress we had was attentive, but gave us lots of space to enjoy the rooftop dining experience, and the menu options were varied and change every day. Really lovely experience, a little pricey, but good for special occasions!

Fabulous! Ordered falafel with side of roasted roots. My husband got the biscuit sandwich with a side of bacon.

Great food Great…read morevibes Good service This place can be girls night out, dude meet up, family gatherings or date night. The wait is not that long.. we came here as walk in's 2x on our 1week stay that started in Bozeman, went down to Yellowstone, then to Idaho for UTV riding and then to Jackson Hole WY to go see the Teton National Park. It was nice to walk around the local shops while we waited and then afterwards to work off those delicious carbs. Thin crust pizzas clean, fresh, not heavy and seasonal ingredients. The crust is soooo good. Chewy and some char. We had: Montana Burger Royale My teen son dreams about this. Yes its 27.00 and he said its the BEST burger he's ever had. I would have to agree (and we live in Austin TX where there's great cow) -the burger meat melted in your mouth -the egg dripping as you break the yolk was perfection. The bacon so juicy, the brioche bun (that was the winning touch) We shared: Hot Honey Pizza- so good 9/10 Spicy Burrata- also great. 8/10 Mac n cheese- that was the only miss. Way under seasoned and the white sauce seemed to get sucked up by the pasta so the dish was super dry. 3/10 Frites and Fondue- fries were great. Thick cut with finely shaved pecorino. Could have used a heaping more of the shaved cheese. -the fondue was ok, seemed still under seasoned or just not creamy enough? I'd swap that for some roasted garlic with the truffle oil. 6/10 Local brews and ciders were great! 9/10 Huckleberry Cheesecake 9/10 save room for this bad boy. We split it between 4 people. Not too sweet. Tart and delightful! The world cup was on the TV so it was a hopping place even as it rained during a late June evening. Parking garage nearby is free for 2hrs so thats cool! Come DT BZN and support local!

Wasn't sure if we should order one or two because the sizing wasn't clear, but a lot of reviews mentioned the pizzas are more around the personal size. I'd say two people could probably share a pizza no problem. We got the vodka pizza, added Italian sausage, as well as the pepperoni. The three of us nearly polished off both pizzas. The pizzas were good, but the undercarriage was pretty floppy, which made me think it probably could have cooked maybe a tad bit longer. They have some good looking pasta dishes as well!

My wife ordered a steak, and the crust they put on their steaks is absolutely fantastic--perfectly seasoned and full of flavor. They also managed to cook it to a perfect medium, exactly as requested. We arrived right at the opening rush, so we expected things might take a while, but our food came out quickly and everything was cooked to perfection. Great food, excellent service, and a wonderful experience all around. Definitely a 5-star visit!

We started with huge mildly-spicy chipotle pepperjack Housemade Tater Tots, crispy yet soft, soothed by a mild tomatillo ranch dipping sauce. And a luscious plate of Bison Potstickers, under a light layer of somewhat-spicy mango & garlic chili sauces, with asian slaw. The Fresh Asian Ramen salad dish was tender organic mixed greens, lightly-sautéed fresh seasonal carrots peas-in-tender-pods and thin brightly-flavored radish slices, tender light ramen noodles, and our chosen plum-glazed sesame-fried mild tofu (instead of chicken), with added sweet tender pan-fried Idaho rainbow trout filet, all under a light sesame-soy vinaigrette. Quite marvelous. The Kale Caesar, (Their Hail-Caesar joke?) was surprisingly good! By rolling the kale and cross-cutting it into thin strips, chiffonade-style, it was tender to the bite! I actually though it was baby kale! It was dressed with a sprinkling of shaved hard white cheeses, housemade sourdough croutons, and a light splashes of creamy caesar. They would add anchovies if you want. Tender juicy thick Monarch-Elk Burger is just a tiny bit game-y, adding a light tough of sweet extra flavor. It's covered with flavorful melted gruyère, a rich tomato jam, arugula, and a truffled porcini aioli. The bun was fresh and pillowy with a paper-thin egg-wash crust. Quite good! I will say that, other than the novelty, we didnt find a reason to come back to elk rather than a well-crafted beef burger. The lightly-beer-battered local, natural Hutterite Pork Chop Sandwich was tender and sweet like chicken, with honey mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. We savored the creaminess of their home-brewed sweet draft craft root beer. And of course we dove into their craft beer list. It was fun to taste the brightly colorful smooth somewhat-sweet Huckleberry Cream Ale from Portland's Hopworks Brewery. Lical huckleberries are hard-to-cultivate more-tart blueberry-relatives, which did become a recurring treat in one form or another on this trip. We shared two self-chosen craft-beer flights. Our favorite was the Bayern Brewing kölsch, a light golden color with soft yeasty malty flavors and just a touch of spiciness. And we loved a selection of their many IPAs. Our least-favorite brew was the Lockhorn Gallatin Grapefruit Mint Cider. The flavor was unusual, and it took me the whole flight-glass to come to terms with the tarragon-like undertone. We also bought some merch from their small retail area near the hosts' stand. Montana Ale Works' inside hall is vast, with a high ceiling and the cheerful roar of conversation. There's a large bar in the center of the room. And there's patio seating out front. At 5, they had said it wasnt crowded yet. We got there at 5:30pm on a weekday, and we had about a 20min wait for our table. Staff was welcoming and efficiently busy. We enjoyed our evening. This was one of the nicest meals on this trip.
