Perfectly delightful seafood haven in a lively space on Newbury Street. On a recent very busy lunch they were understaffed, with only one waiter and one bus person for the whole place- although they acquitted themselves as best as possible- and cheerfully. Their oysters are pristine and, while mostly from New England, are quite varied in salinity, size and texture. All were delicious. The mussels are small, but sweet and served in a delicious white wine, butter, mustard and leek broth that begged to be sopped up with the accompanying warm country bread. It would be nice if they served them with fries. Their main non-seafood entree was a prime bavette. A little tough and a little dry, but flavorful. Might have been better served in thin slices cut across the grain with a red wine reduction. A juicy burger would have been a better 4 footed option. Pricey, but this is Newbury Street. read more

Great atmosphere. Service was prompt, attentive, and well informed of the menu. Especially regarding the oysters questions. I especially like the option of how I wanted my lobster roll: butter vs mayo. I haven't tried all the Boston lobster rolls to say which is best but Little Whale makes a flavorful one loaded with lobster and one where the breading doesn't take away but compliments the lobster and butter. Yes I'm prefer the butter over mayo. All in all a great experience and would definitely recommend and will dine again. read more

So, like a lot of other reviews. Service wasn't very good and you have to pay the 23% which is frustrating but this was my big problem. I looked on their website before I left the hotel today and it showed the Lobster Roll as $48 on their actual website. My daughter and I arrive and it shows MK (market price) I ask what's the price of the Lobster Roll and our server says $68. AYFKM. Only $20 difference than what your website said. New England Clam Chowder was good but the lobster roll would have been good for $48 but I should have had a whole 1.5lb lobster on my bun for $68. Like I said, I had to pay the 23% add on on top of that. Won't be going back. Should have taken the Uber to James Hook. read more

Great food except Salmon Crudo. The salmon has no taste and also smelled. Don't order! I would rather order a couple more oysters than this. Sautéed clams are so delicious. But service were not so good. The server cleaned up plates and stuff while I'm still eating. Making me feel uncomfortable and feels like she wants us out quick. Tried Little Whale for lunch on a Friday Pat opening, with a reservation. I was charmed by the surroundings: Gloucester seafood meets chic surroundings with an open kitchen. The entire staff was wonderful. We ordered 6 oysters, the fish sandwich, and the lobster spaghettini to share. The oysters were fresh, the sandwich was amazing, and the spaghettini was perfectly cooked, the lobster plentiful. Service was spot-on. We had an amazing lunch. But, I'm not sure I'd return frequently. I'm always offended by mandatory tipping. Proactively charging customers for service that they haven't yet received is unreasonable, and I tend to avoid those restaurants. Please pay your employees a living wage. read more

Food was not fresh nor exceptional in any way. They could not accommodate a simple request based on food allergies and made my guest feel as if she was a nuisance. Amazing lobster rolls - but expensive!! I'm very picky with lobster rolls - I can't stand it when it's basically mayo with a side of lobster. This place is legit - we had both the cold roll (mayo) and warm roll (butter). I liked the cold lobster roll much more - it's lighter and there is only a trace of mayo. The warm roll was delicious but was too buttery for my taste. We also had the clam chowder as an appetizer - amazing. Light but delicious. The ambiance and service are also great - minutes from BU and Fenway. Only comment is the price. Each lobster roll is $55 and each bowl of chowder is $15.
