Service is fast and waiter is fairly friendly. Food is good and priced decently and the wait is never really long. Authentic Singaporean style Chinese and Malay food. My favorite is the Singapore Fried Bee Hoon (Rice Noodle).

I was excited about trying this place since there aren't many places in LA that serve Singaporean grub. I tried the laksa and well...meh. Very watered down. Laksa gravy / soup is supposed to be a bit heartier with more chili and spice. This version was low on spice and had maybe about half the typical coconut milk content. Toppings (fried tofu, chicken and some vegetables) were passable. But they used thin HK-style noodles instead of rice or regular Chinese noodles like you're supposed to. HK noodle is relatively dry so it didn't soak up the gravy. Overall, the dish just didn't work for me. Service was decent and the place is clean enough compared to what you usually find in this area of Monterey Park. The rest of the menu looks interesting - sort of a cross between a HK café and a Singaporean Chinese restaurant - but I probably won't be coming back. read more

best Singaporean noodles ever! this is the only thing i come here for. although i may opt to try something new next time but this place is a staple for me if i ever want some singapore noodles. the flavor is all there and that smoked ham they use just really brings the whole dish together. pretty large portion. i have also tried their mince beef with egg over rice, it was just ok. supah moist rice isnt really my thing. i have also tried their fried chicken wings, i'll pass on that next time too. service is ok, the ladies kind of rush you to order. they look like they've all worked here for a really long time. the place is kinda small and old, really outdated. but we're all here for the food right?! read more

Gotta try the singapore rice noodle is so good! It taste good but also it's not oily or greasy like alot of fried noodles are. I also had the laksa and that was also good.. one of the best i've had so far. And the Hai nan chicken was soft, tender, juicy and seasoned just right..! i notice this restaurant has been around for years. Don't know why it took me so long to finally give it a try. But, I'm glad I did. Shaighai rice cake - very different from the typical Shaighai rice cake served at other Chinese restaurants. It wasn't bad at all. It's got sausage in the dish. Interesting. Baked Ham & Chicken speghetti - Again, quite different than the HK stye. It seems as it lacks cheese flavor which I personally love when I order this dish. It's got more gravy than anything else. The presentation is not appealing. But, to my surprise, the taste is actually pleasant. I will definitely return to try other dishes. I was not aware this is a Singapore style restaurant. That explains the variation in the food flavor compared to typical Chinese food restaurants. Oh, for those lemon tea lovers, their lemon tea tastes EXACTLY like Nestea/Lipton lemon tea. I like the HK style lemon tea better. Do not order unless you are a Nestea/Lipton lemon tea fan. read more

I have been to this restaurant since 1993. Laksa is my only reason there. Recently, it tastes a little blend and different. Not as good as before. Other notable are the fried vermicelli & Portuguese style chicken rice. I always order Black Jelly & Red Bean Ice as dessert. read more

Price is fine, and the capacity is quite small but that doesn't matter. Been going here for years, the Laksa is the best around LA!

The food was pretty good but the portions were small.The best meal here is the fried fish with rice noodles I forgot the name though.I felt like I was eating home made food and the place looked like a hotel. I think the curry chicken or the curry beef gave my brother I a mean stomach ache for the whole day the next day.The waitress had to ask us twice for the order when we already told her what we wanted. Bad service and also demanded us to pay the tips before giving us the change. She is worry more on the tips then giving us back the change. Served only one pot of tea for five of us and took the tea pot away never brought it back. Three servers were too busy talking and we had to called few times to get their attention. order to go today and this place didn't disappoint, the portion is HUGE and the quality is there. The singapore fried rice noodles is a must try, with seafood, ham and bean sprout. You won't feel like you are only eating noodles and the flavor is intense, it may be salty to some but my mouth need that "crack" once in a while. Got the baked portuguese sauce with beef tongue, just extactly what I craved, just wish they seperate the sauce and the pasta. last but not least, the seafood with singapore sauce. It's basically a bisque with LOTS of seafood.....if you ever want to stop by wholefoods or any market or places to get a seafood bisque, i highly recommend you come by here instead, I found scallop, shrimp, fish, and NO imitation crab! wow, the amount of seafood they put in that soupy thing! in some western restaurant, it will totally cost you around 20, but they only charge you 11.95 and comes with free rice/pasta. I am a fan! Most chinese place put lots of imitation crab and some frozen fish, then, call it seafood. but here, they use the real thing, and the scallop is bigger than what I used to too! so, I am amazed! The phone call with the owner or the waiter/waitress is always pleasant and polite. They really seem welcoming and nice, which is a big plus. I go to Savoy sometimes for Hainan chicken, but this place give you way much more and people are nicer in general. It seems like this cafe/restaurant is here forever and I am glad we order here today, very pleasant experience. read more

Great place that has been here for decades. Best Singapore Style rice vermicelli. It looks plain and flavorless, but it's the complete opposite. The many Laksa dishes are worth trying too as well as the daily special - Portuguese Baked Chicken (everyday). Most everything we tried was at minimum decent if not very good. I love this place! here are the positives: -awesome kung pao shrimp! comes with rice -good chicken! -good chow mein -good lemonaid tea thingy. Downsides: if you are non asian like myself and my boyfriend most of the older emplyees (which is most of them) are a little rude and will serve all the asian people around you and than maybe if you wave them down they will get you a refill. This place is known for its Singapore fried noodle. That is what I ordered. It isn't like the traditional friend noodle in that it doesn't have curry. I've gotten this dish many times before many years ago, but it doesn't seem as good this time. The service overall is decent. My friend go the yang chow friend rice. Rude service and very bland food. This place has been a total disappointment all four times I've been here. The waitress also glared at me and shouted something inaudible when I handed her my credit card instead of paying with cash. I don't know if they are a shady business lying about their earnings to the IRS, but credit cards are the standard in 2015. Please don't threaten your own customers. this will be a bad review. this place is beat up. it's an Chinese version of a greasy spoon diner. and the food is actually tastey --just ignore the chipped up plate they serve it on. I'm rating 1 star mainly because the service sucked. the owner/waitress never came back to my table after I placed the order. no one did. I needed more rice, more napkins.. she didn't even bring the check. after sitting at the table motionless for 10 mins I abruptly got up and she raced me to the register. oh, and the $30 minimum credit card charge I looked that up. This is another one of my regulars and the best dishes are singapore chow me fun and the beef chow fun with no bean sprouts. Actually a lot of dishes are great including a lot of the curry dishes. Come to think of it, I don't remember any bad dishes there. Funny how Jun Y rate this place 3 stars and said he or she will go to the other cafes on the block. My question, what other cafes. I know of none that are even close to acceptable. Funny how people rate their tastes. I guess that is why most of the time I think those good critics on the food network competition shows are really ignorant of what good food should taste like. I think when people write reviews, they need to explain why certain taste good and it should not just be a pure subjective taste preference. What I like about Litz is that their wok is really hot and you can taste a bit of burnt flavor which is not easy to get these days in most restaurants. read more
