This restaurant quality of foods is a must visit when I am in LA and for the last twenty Years or more and this is the first time I wrote my comment on them. If there is any weakness will be their service due to they are being there for as long as I remember. It is too bad there were comments about their service but in terms of foods and prices you can not beat that anywhere you Go in the world. Laksa--the BEST THING!!! I also like to order their Singapore rice noodles and the baked Portuguese chicken fillet (is that what you call it?) Sometimes I will also get their spicy salt chicken wings as an appetizer. Their Lemon Tea is good too. My husband gets their Thai tea but sometimes complains it's too sweet. This is a restaurant for foodies. Best Hai Nan Chicken rice (better than Savoy's) best laksa and best Singapore fried rice noodle ( those restaurant that add curries to their Singapore fried rice noodle is not authentic ...) in town. Their flavor and quality stays the same for decades. And that says a lot......Many restaurant's food taste fluctuates. Most authentic singapore style food in Los Angeles area. What a worst laksa i had in my life!!! I saw soup only yellow color, no those kind of chilli oil in it.....even worse, I stir a bit on the soup, not thick at all, just like curry water, no taste at all. I think they ran out of soup, then pour a lot of water on my bowl to make a laksa for me. The server said all their frequent customer never complaint about it. You must be wondering, Really? Five stars for an old joint that's ghetto on the inside and out? Yes. I have yet to find good singaporean food like the ones they have here. hadn't been here in +10 years, no bad experience...just forgot about the place after my dad moved his business. ordered the laksa w/ rice noodle, laksa w/ beef 'n the singapore style vermicelli. laksa is basically a diluted coconut broth w/ a bit of kick to it. most ppl go for that or the vermicelli. their vermicelli isn't the bright yellow kind u think of when u normally visit a fob cafe. litz' is much simpler in flavor, i didn't think it was anything to rave about. but the laksa did bring back good childhood memories. pretty big portions for all the dishes and most are priced at $7ish, so you can't beat it. oh 'n get the whole fob cafe experience, order yourself a red bean special or iced lemon tea (in cantonese if you want better treatment)! read more

I've been coming here for over 20 years. I never get tired of the Singapore fried rice noodles. It is their signature item and it is not the typically curry version that other restaurants serve. I know my laksa, and the laksa here is terribly watered down. Save yourselves the money and buy the laksa package called, Prima, and make it yourself. We also tried the Singapore rice stick noodles and usually there is a fair amount of meat that you can see, but there was only a small amount of slivered (really thin) ham, tiny amounts of squid and microscopic pieces of egg. I dunno if the cook changed on the day we went, but it was a big disappointment. read more

I just went to Litz for the first time this morning and I didn't expect much about it. My coworker recommended me to give them a try and I did. First thing I noticed when I walked in was the smell of Maggi soy sauce. I guess they loved that stuff there. After I've sat down with a friend, I browsed around and realized that all of their Maggi soy sauce containers were open. I wasn't sure what to think of that. Maybe slightly not too sanitized? Other than that, the place is pretty small and a tad out dated in terms of the way the dining area looks. Anyhow, the food rating is probably a tad more important. I ordered the Singapore pan fried rice noodle along with the pickled vegetable with shredded pork rice noolde in soup. The pan fried rice noodle was simple and good. It was easy and subtle. I actually anticipated it to have the artificial yellow coloring with a good amount of curry spice as I've had experieced numerous times else where. The pickled vegetable soup rice noodle with shredded pork was delicious. The soup base was pretty incredible. I'd like to go back and try some of their other dishes. This restaurant was totally low key. I think I would like them more if they didn't jack up the Christmas spirit by tuning in to this station that was playing Christmas songs all morning long. they do a version of singapore noodles here, sans the yellow curry that is de rigeur in the dish. for those unfamiliar, this is stir fried thin rice noodles with shrimp, squid, ham and bean sprouts. i like to add some more flavor to mine with some of the chili oil/paste that is on every table and a shot of maggi too. it's one of the most basic and enjoyable dishes available anywhere and it's even better the next day...but it rarely makes it that long. we also get the fish curry at times. and you can't go wrong with some sauteed chinese greens either. most of the locals seem to get more hk-cafe style dishes. i'll leave those up to you to discover. their drinks are very hk-cafe too. i love the lemonade, which is nothing more than sugarwater, lemon juice and slices, and ice. perfect thing to wash it all down with. the interior is clean but completely nondescript and the soundtrack is mostly people talking in cantonese. all in all, if you're looking for a reason to hit MP, Litz is all you need. read more

This place hasn't changed since the 90s. Same old decor, same old furniture, same old light fixtures and probably same old dust. One thing that has changed though is the food quality which used to be much better. Both the laksa and the Singaporean fried noodles lacked flavor. The fried chicken wings were a bit bitter. The food was edible but not good enough to make me want to go back. Also it has a ridiculous credit card policy. The waitress wouldn't accept credit card without a chip. She said there are signs posted in the restaurant stating such policy. Really, who actually will look at the walls for credit card policy?! There was no sign where I was sitting. I debated with her for good 5 minutes and asked her what she wants me to do since I only have Amex with the chip which she wouldn't accept either. She told me to go to the atm. I was so tempted to do that to see if she needed me to leave collateral. Making things worse was its health grade. I realized it was a B as I walked out of the restaurant. Also the sign posted on the wall doesn't say they don't accept credit card without a chip. Skip this dirty crap hole. There are few other Singaporean restaurants in the SGV that are better and cleaner. read more

Ten minutes after eleven, its just us and the waiter looking at each other through the window. Even though this restaurant has been in the neighborhood for quite some time, we decided to visit a few months ago due to the ads. Grant it, we only visited once, but the experience was so bad, it will take a lot to make me want to return. First off, the interior was dirty. Everything from the walls to the seats are in dire need of renovations or just a good cleaning. I know I shouldn't expect much from local hole-in-the-walls like this, but this fell even below my usually already lowly set bar for joints like this. Same goes for the service. The first waitress who greeted us was pretty nice, but after that first greeting, we never saw her again. Instead, she was replaced by an older lady in a dirty apron who had a massive attitude problem right from the start. I ordered a steak with black peppered sauce and my friend ordered some kind of standard Chinese rice dish (I think it was minced beef over rice). Based on some of your reviews, I get that these might not be their specialties, but I have to still fault them for the quality of these dishes because if their cooks cannot produce a remotely decent version of the dishes, then why even include it on the menu? I ordered my steak medium rare. What came out was two overcooked slabs of beef SMOTHERED in unappetizing looking sauce. My beef was so overcooked, it tasted like liver. I normally try not to send food back because I feel bad and plus no good usually comes out of it, but I couldn't help it this time because that dish wasn't cheap and I really couldn't eat the meat. Not to mention the amount of sauce was just overwhelming because it was so salty. There was so much of it, it was literally spilling over the plate. I asked the kitchen worker/waitress to come over and very nicely explained to her why I have to send it back and of course she wasn't pleased. When I told her about the beef, she argued, are you sure that's not how you wanted it cooked? I said absolutely not. Then when I point out the sauce and asked her to please just have it on the side the next round because there's too much and it's too salty as a result, her response was, if I didn't want so much sauce I should have told her right from the start because this is how they do things here and how would they know I didn't want so much sauce. Like I'm supposed to know how they usually do things there??? I actually politely answered her that I didn't expect this much sauce and she again repeated basically that I should have known and asked for less next time I ordered. Now, I've been to a few places with black pepper steak--off the top of my head, Garden Cafe, Victory Restaurant, Baccalli--and none of them slathered their steaks in this way. So I feel pretty confident in saying that this is NOT the normal way to present this dish. So when my steak came back, my sauce was on the side, but the meat was thicker, but now it was RARE. Bloody rare. I realized then that the cook had no idea what medium rare meant so I just gave up. Sauce was still overly salty. Over-salting seems to be specialty of the chef's because my friend's rice dish was also over-salted. She could only eat a few bites; she didn't even bother to wrap it to go. Again, I know regulars would argue that our problem was that we ordered the wrong items. I accept that, but then they shouldn't have those items on the menu and charge so much for it. Food issues aside, based on the grimy interior and the crappy service, I cannot recommend this place to anyone, and actually, even now when I see their ads on tv, I just laugh at what a joke they are. read more

It looks like a simple rice dish with beef, egg and gravy poured all over it, but i kid you not, one bite is all it will take to curse yourself for doubting this wonderful creation. For the beef, they give you two options: ground or sliced beef. My mom prefers the sliced and i prefer the ground. So, it's entirely up to you. Both is good. The laksa, curry soup with vermicilli noodles and your choice of meat/seafood is also another unforgettable dish. It's my brothers favorite and he swears by it. The only downside is, even though they sayyy they take credit card and it says on this yelp page that they take credit card, don't be caught off guard if they say their credit card machine is currently down and can only accept cash. My mom grew up in Singapore and returns here regularly for their laksa. That said, I've been to s'pore and prefer Yazmin in Alhambra. But! The place is a close second. I ordered a Singaporean style rice noodle. Normally this dish should be full of large succulent shrimp. Instead the plate was full of squid and less than 3 pieces of shrimp crumbs. I don't like squid because it causes too much uric acid and cause arthritis. And when I asked the waitress she said the standard is 3 pcs of shrimps. I was in shock. And when I got the bill , they charged $2.25 for a little pot of tea!!! I was like what! Tea water the guy asked me what I want to drink and I said hot water or hot tea. And he slammed me with a ridiculous charge. I disputed it and they said we told you. I said I don't even understand Cantonese how the hell am I supposed to understand what you were rumbling about? They just ignored me and changed me. I am writing a very negative review against this restraint. Don't ever come here. This is one hole in the wall that you dont want to drive by! Trust Me. Me and an old friend stumbled upon this place when we were craving some Chinese food. I couldnt read what any of the signs said in this area (asianville) so I just picked this one because we were hungry. We walked in being the only white girls and non of the waitresses could speak english, I was nervous. But there was no need to be, the food was SOO GOOD. Ill put up with some menu finger pointing for food this tasty and cheap. They have the best lemonade that I have ever had, idk how i could like something so normal so much, its sweet and delicious. I always order egg fried rice and the Kung Pow Shrimp, its the best Ive had anywhere! Everything else there looks good I just feel like my Shrimp is a safe pic. This place is a must try!
