While craving a milk shake and subliminally having seen this place earlier today, I stopped in at 2pm. There were some aficionados of ice cream, ages 8-11, slurping it up in the parking lot, so you know this has to be the place! The kids were in dreamland with cones and having a blast. I got my milk shake and some containers of sherbet and ice cream to stuff in the freezer. The milk shake was great! The guy behind the counter was ok but seemed to have had too little sleep last night. Hello, you're cute so smile. What's the deal? The prices are great, location is pretty easy to get in and out of, and the decor is too fun for words. Didn't have enough cash so had to run and get parking quarters out of my car. I like Loard's. Its an ol' fashioned Ice cream shop in an unassuming place. I had the mint chip ice cream, which had a great choc. chip to ice cream ratio, one of the best I've seen. They were evenly dispersed. It was quite refreshing. My friend enjoyed the Almond Joy ice cream, which was quite tasty and had little fudgy areas in it. For both of us to get a bit of ice cream $4.50. With ice cream prices on the rise, this is a surprising deal for quality ice cream. I appreciate Loard's and have to go back to try a sundae, I bet they are off the chain!!!! read more

Ive been getting my ice cream and ice cream sundaes(caramel) since 1977 from Loards. Although the personnel has chnged over the years the ice cream remains the same. Service used to be with a smile now its not. The newer store on MacArthur and Seminary is more friendly and the service is always with a smile. best caramel sundaes and banana splits second only to Fentons. read more

I'd give it 3 1/2. Its a little frightening to go here late at night, but the ice cream is actually pretty good and the staff is surprisingly coherant. It's really old school and is best when you're in the mood for the ice cream equivilent of Giant Burgers' shakes. read more

It's really difficult to drive by Loard's in the summertime without stopping in for a cone/cup of their decadent ice cream. Loard's is made the old-school way with loads of heavy cream. The strawberry and mint chip are my all-time favorite flavors. read more

My family and friends have gone to Loard's in Orinda for ice cream and candy for over 30 years. I highly recommend everything they have. It is hard to find a place where not only is the food product excellent, but so is the customer service. We have never been disappointed with the quality of either. We have moved from Walnut Creek to LA and can't get the same ice cream/candy quality here. So, for many years, when I have my once a year business trip to San Francisco, in June, we always make sure we go to the Loard's in Orinda Ca (East Bay side of SF Peninsula- near Walnut Creek). We were just there a month ago! Quality hasn't changed and we took some candy home with us. I am going to call them to see if I can order some candy. Don't know why we haven't done this before. Really wish we had a Loard's here in LA. This is a must go for a special treat! read more

This is really the last of the great ice cream parlors. I used to live in the Dimond district as a kid and came here frequently. When you walk in, you notice how clean it is, followed by the white wrought iron, heart shaped chairs with matching tables. The hot fudge sundae (with vanilla ice cream) is really special. The portions are decent, the service is always good and this is the only place in the Bay Area with "Mango" ice cream. read more

My daughter and I thought we would grab some ice cream on a rainy day. So we went to Loards Ice Cream. The service was good as well as the mint chip ice cream. My daughter went with the chocolate as she is a big chocolate fan but she said it tastes like peanuts. I took a bite and yes it had a hint of peanut to it. I would not recommend the chocolate unless you like peanuts. Overall they served good ice cream with good service. read more

This 1950-s style of ice cream parlor has tropical, Filipino flavors, which is awesome in my book. But the sorbet tastes more on the chemical side than the natural side. If you're spoiled by hoity-toity, bourgeois ice cream like Ici, than this is not worth the calories. I was just in there 5 minutes ago. A customer had chocolate chip ice cream on a cone. He took a lick of it and said he didn't like it and gave it back to the Server. It's back! They weren't closed for good; just for remodeling. The place looks so much better now. I always loved the ice cream but the setting was always a little bit of a downer, really trapped in another decade and not in a fun way. Now the faded, water-stained art is gone, and the place looks fresh again. The staff seem perkier, too. They look like they're enjoying their job more than before the remodel. read more

how disappointing, i was ready for a thick yummy cone; that didn't melt right away. asked if all their ice cream was so soft - yes! i like it thick a little chewy and rich flavor. that's good ice cream! not Lourdes it's wet and limp, lots of flavor, almost too much, in fact way too much - like that is supposed to make up for the body and content. my take was it was inferior ice cream, like made with water... and the texture of it is repugnant - even the after taste. maybe this is just the new Concord store that's like this. i hope so! none of the reviews are of this new store. read more

The service is AWFUL!!! When you enter the establishment, it appears that there is nobody working there. You yell out, "Hello!", wait a long moment, yell "Hello!" again. Somebody snaps back, "we hear you!", and then you wait another 1-2 minutes for the jerk in the back to come up front and help you. This has happened to me three times since May. Loard's, you should be ashamed of your dismal service, train your staff better and provide a better business. You have lost mine and my neighbors (probably worth $1,000 a year). read more

I like going to this ice cream store but my experience today was disappointing, I walked in the young lady was sitting behind the counter eating something, she said hi to me and continued eating so I thought she was going to call some one else from the back to help me well that didn't happen she continued to eat then walked to the counter and asked could she help me, at no point did she wash her hands, I declined her service and went somewhere else.
