Had to give an update. Always a 5 star for me - brunch is probably the best in town. I normally do the croquet madam (which is seriously AMAZING) but opted for the French onion soup since the weather is finally cooling in AZ. The soup was delicious! Lots of cheese. Light on the actual onion in the soup but the flavor was spot on! My son got the ricotta pancakes which were sweet and delicious. Who would have thought ricotta in a pancake but it tasted like lemons and the blueberry syrup was the perfect touch. I took pics after we dove into our meals.... oops. I have come here many times for lunch dinner and happy hour. The food is always prepared nicely as well as the staff is friendly and attentive. I like their pizzas and pastas they also do a drive-thru burger for happy hour which is a copy of an In-N-Out style for $6. Same owner as sumumaya and kale and clover. Those are both good restaurants as well. If you are up in this neighborhood and looking for a nice spot to get a bite to eat or a drink you should check this place out for sure. read more

We just enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Local Bistro. It was absolutely delicious. Our most excellent server, Hannah recommended the brûléed figs with goat cheese, the Caesar salad, and salmon with pesto whipped potato. All incredible! As was the lobster pasta. First, let me say that it is not clear how the whole brunch experience works here. Our server was not clear, did we HAVE to opt for the bottomless brunch, could we order what we wanted and not go that route, could we order a flight of the mimosa's and NOT do bottomless and get gouged paying for more than we wanted to drink???? We never asked for the bottomless brunch and never said that's what we wanted but clearly, we were charged as if we did. Requested mimosa flights and server brought HIS recommendations which were varieties of strawberry, prickly pear and passion fruit mix in purees without even asking what WE wanted. Would have preferred traditional mix ins of OJ and pineapple. The ones he brought were okay but not my preference as they were not very sweet or appealing to the palate. Side plates are a bit disappointing in that they are VERY small! You have to order numerous plates to be able to get any real amount of food or to simply enjoy the plate you ordered and they will only serve 2 at a time so they take their sweet time bringing them out to you. Side plates, had the SAUSAGE LOLLIPOPS which were good but you only 2 on a plate and I had taken half a bite of mine and the server came and picked up the plate with the 2 dipping sauces (one syrup the other a spicy blend) so I could not take my 2nd bite with any syrup! The GRILLED BACON STEAK which is a pork belly take off was good but most of it was fat so with two people taking cuts of the piece they give you, it was about 2-3 bites total. Guacomole is good and they bring out a dish with a nice amount and two chips, yes two chips so you have to ask your server for more chips to use up the portion served which is frankly annoying. Again, more delays in the eating and enjoying your experience. Overall, the side plates are not worth the hassle experienced. I'd rather go elsewhere and order what I want and know I will get a reasonable sized serving and bang for my buck. We had the BEIGNETS and I had one and my guest had one and they took the dish off the table with the 3-4 we had left still sitting in the dish untouched without asking if we were done with them which we weren't as I wanted to get some coffee to have with mine which I was NEVER OFFERED and never ordered. Rule of thumb, leave uneaten food, sauces, etc... sitting on the table until they are either gone or ASK the customers if they are done with them before removing them from the table!!!! You only get 1 entree with the bottomless brunch. Ordered our entrees which took quite a bit of time to come out of the kitchen. Sure would have been nice to have the beignets on the table to enjoy with coffee which I never got while waiting.... Had the California Benedict and when I cut into the egg, it was like a hard boiled egg with no runny yolk which is traditional for eggs benedict. Oh and you get only 1 egg and I've never been served such a small egg in a restaurant ever before unless it was a quail egg which this wasn't! The muffin or whatever it was served on that was supposed to be the breaded base was so hard that I could hardly cut through it with a knife and fork. This entree was a big let down! Remember, you get only 1 entree with the bottomless brunch so no do overs! The SHORT RIB OMELETTE was plain jane, not flavorful and very little cheese. You have to chase people down to get any ketchup or salsa to add on top which is needed otherwise, this omelette is just bland and blah! Overall not impressed with the entrees flavor or portions. This is how they "get you" is that the entrees are not enough to fill you up so you HAVE to add the side plates to get your fill and deal with the game that we had to play. Frankly, would rather go elsewhere and order what I want without the BS of doing a bottomless brunch or all-inclusive brunch and fighting to get your fill. With a $100.00+ tab, can go many other places and get just that for MUCH less money and hassle. read more

Lively atmosphere. Our server was extremely friendly but was tough to locate a couple key times. We started with the drunk bread, and crispy eggplant and burrata. Both were extremely delicious and would order again. I got the spaghetti al ricci di mare as my entree; it had great flavor, however, it only came with 2 small shrimp (size 26-30 ct) which was extremely disappointing. I wanted to point this out to our server but this was one of the key times she was not found. My friends enjoyed their entrees. We discovered LB just before the pandemic hit. We thought it was a very nice place with a decent menu. Got a chance to go back again the other day. The food was excellent but the prices on the menu have gone out of sight. The two of us both ordered an appetizer and an entre. Entres consisted of a pasta dish and a pizza. We also had two, non-alcoholic drinks. Total price: $108. Our fault for not paying attention to the prices, but holy smokes! $108 for pasta and pizza? We could have gone to Uncle Louie's and had an excellent dinner for less than half that price. Good food, but definitely not worth the money. What happened to the brunch!?! So, we knew that the amazing brunch had changed, but worse, the website still advertises live music and it was dull!!! No music at all! The menu is now limited and at a much higher price. Bottomless brunch used to include sangria and an amazing margarita. Now it's mimosa or bloodys. The oatmeal is gone! The bacon steak is now the same price as most of the entrees. Honestly, I'm the most bummed because we expected a specific ambiance and entertainment even knowing that the brunch format had changed. There was no entertainment at all. Only moderately good service and over priced brunch food. Sad to say it's not longer worth traveling for. I'm going to try my best to explain just how GREAT this place is! Made a reservation for a date with the wife, we walked in and told them our name the hostess greeted us with a smile and said it would just be a minute to make sure the table was ready, not soon after that she showed us to our table and made sure were good before she left, already great service. Our server did a fantastic job, he gave us the menus and let us take our time to figure out what we wanted. He got us some drinks, which was water with an orange slice (very tasty) and a soda. After that he walked us through the menu and had a few suggestions for us to try. We ended up ordering the Drunk Bread for an app, and my wife order the Bologenes pasta, which came with noodles made from scratch and plenty of sausage. I went with the Skirt Steak with slice potatoes, both were amazing. The sauce they gave me to go with my steak made everything extra tasty. It was right before our appetizer came out that the owner swung by to say hello and make sure everything was going well. Though that was very nice of him. Afterward we were stuffed but we got desserts which ended up being the liquid cheesecake and a lemon flavored dessert that I am spacing the name of but that was very good too. We walked away stuffed but satisfied and had an amazing evening and date night. If you are looking for a place to go a nice date with your S.O. then I'd suggest Local Bistro, you wont regret it! read more

I came here for lunch and really enjoyed dishes made from local fresh ingredients. Service was friendly and I really liked the way the server presented lemon plate when I asked a slice of lemon for my water. For appetizer, I ordered tuna tartare - avocado, crème fraîche, jalapeño pesto, sesame crisp. Tuna was fresh and went well with avocado paste. Great appetizer to share, I thought it would be nice to have before start drinking (tuna and avocado help) I ordered pasta bolognese - beef, pork, veal, tomato ragú for my lunch. I asked them to boil pasta al dente and they actually delivered pasta al dente. Sauce was very meaty, I became full a half way through my lunch. Very flavorful sauce indeed. My friend ordered seafood salad - crab salad, marinated squid, shrimp, orange vinaigrette, after I saw the salad and I smelled nice squid, I secretly wished I was the one ordered the salad. I had a bite of squid and it was so tender and flavorful, would have enjoyed eating the whole salad myself. Perhaps next time I will order this salad for me. For desert, I ordered tiramisu. I knew I was going to do exercise a lot that weekend, I truly enjoyed my tiramisu guilt free. Love the texture of mascarpone cheese and coffee flavor. Did you know tiramisu has a meaning "pick me up" and "cheer me up"? No wonder why I am always happy after eating tiramisu.... Must be the chocolate/cocoa. Opened late last year, Local Bistro seems to be hitting the sweet spot in North Scottsdale with well priced food, drinks and a snazzy yet comfortable atmosphere. Heading the kitchen up is chef Andrea Volpi, who brings a fresh approach by sourcing many of their ingredients from local purveyors. Showcasing his talents was apparent from the first taste of his heavenly Prosciutto Pizza ($12). The house made mozzarella was delightfully meaty with just the right amounts of peppery arugula and salty prosciutto. Even fry basket basics like Calamari ($9) were light, crisp and tender without an ounce of excess oil. The menu is pretty straight forward with plenty of mass appeal including pizza, pasta, steaks and fish. I usually have a rule about eating fish in a land locked state, how fresh can it be right? Defying my own rule I went ahead and ordered LB's Ahi Tuna Tartar ($10), good thing too because it was as fresh as it could be. Mixed with avocado and atop a bed of citrus creme, the texture was akin to butter with notes of lemon which only added to the lightness of this starter. I preferred slathering the mixture onto the pillowy moist crumb of LB's house bread in lieu of the accompanied crostini. I'm thinking Drunk Bread ($12) is more about texture than taste. They take thick cut bread, soak it in white wine, mount it with Gruyere cheese and then it goes for a quick sun tan in the broiler. The result wasn't exactly bursting with flavor but the luscious character was pleasant though not entirely satisfying. These days every place has some sort of hamburger on the menu. With more burgers come a higher standard and the question, which has the best? Let me tell you that LB's Angus Burger ($12) ranks pretty high. All the standards are intact with some delicious variations including grill tomato, asiago cheese and zinfandel braised onions. Smokey, sweet, tender and juicy this burger was so happening that in future visits I would be hard pressed to order anything else. Chicken Parmesano ($16) wasn't exactly what one might expect. A large organic chicken breast was pounded out, breaded, fried and served only with a layer of parmigiano cheese on top, sans red sauce. This combination was well balanced with a lightly dressed salad of cherry tomatoes and arugula, sauce on the side. As I sit here writing about how well their food prepared I'm still haunted by the mediocre service we received. It got so bad at one point that we actually got up out of our table to find basics like salt and pepper. After that our server was more attentive but I still had a stick in my craw. I ordered a Basil Gimlet ($9) which arrived in a standard martini glass that was only half full, or was it half empty? Metaphor's aside, I called our server on it in which I got a shrug, "that's how we serve it". It's not a deal breaker but come on, stingy and bitchy, really? While there wasn't much in the glass, it was a tasty drink leaving me wanting another. Aside from the service problem, the food was spot on. Now this makes the glass half full, right? read more

I think I found my new favorite restaurant. I have been craving French food lately and after a quick Yelp search, I found a few restaurants nearby. Local Bistro was the closest, so my husband and I decided to give it a try. Local Bistro is located at Hayden/Thompson Peak in a shopping plaza that houses a few other restaurants so finding parking wasn't a difficult feat. As we walked up, we knew we wanted to sit on the patio which is on the small side but feels intimate and relaxing. Our waiter was quick to take our drink orders and bring some bread and olive oil. We took our time looking at the menu which seems extensive and filled with numerous delicious sounding options. It was hard to make a decision - I really wanted the French onion soup or a risotto or the fish of the day but in the end I chose the seafood linguini and I was not disappointed. The dish is black linguini with market seafood and a lobster bisque jus. It was heaven in a dish and I did not want to share. The shrimp was tasty, the scallops melted in my mouth, and the sauce - oh, the sauce made everything better. My husband ordered the steak frites which is a skirt steak with herb butter, fries, and a side salad. I tried a few bites of his steak in exchange for a few bites of my dish and found the steak was super tender and juicy. After such a wonderful meal, we decided to try the cheesecake of the day - blueberry. I wish this cheesecake was on the menu every day. It was a delicate cheesecake with blueberries baked in, fresh whipped cream and whole blueberries on top and a bit of blueberry sauce/compote on the side. It was so delicious, I can't wait to come back and try more desserts. I am usually not one to follow the masses, but I will agree with my fellow Yelpers on this spot. You really can't go wrong with a place when the instant you walk in, people are ushering in smiles and attention to accommodate your dining needs. The bar is a great spot to rest your bum but I wanted to soak up the beautiful monsoon season on the patio. Blame the moscow mule because I cannot recall my server's name, but Miss New Jersey was someone I seriously could kidnap to go explore the menu with! Personable, attentive but never intrusive and certainly she has great taste in food. I started with the burrata appetizer and I never realized how cheese and peaches could take your smile to such heights. The steak salad is incredible generous with the meat portion, and I was an appreciative audience! I loved how they did use peaches to make the salad refreshing. And finally, you cannot eat here without having the white chocolate bread pudding. To die for. It is now my second favorite version next to red velvet bread pudding. read more

Just had dinner here for the first time as dine in since pre covid... and won't be back (used to come monthly). Menu is much reduced compared to what it used to be (no steak selection and they took the best thing off the menu, the French onion soup) and no longer had a happy hour. Food was good but certainly didn't feel like a 200 dollar dinner for three people and a kids meal (which we didn't even recieve the dessert it came with) when you only order 2 drinks (the 2 extra hidden fees certainly didn't help). Do yourself a favor and check out the Craftsman for awesome cocktails and a good hh (especially on Wednesdays where almost all bourbon cocktails are half off) or soon Chula seafood next door; you went even have to park anywhere else and you'll leave much happier read more

Visited Local Bistro for restaurant week and really enjoyed it! My main entree was quite good. Their bread course was also delicious as well as unique. I started with the frito misto which was good. My main selection was seared salmon served over cauliflower rice which was creamy and risotto-like along with some rainbow beets and fresh snap peas - crisp, sweet and delish! It was a generous and wonderful plate of food. The salmon was cooked perfectly. The desserts didn't hit the spot for me, but the rest of the meal was great and I enjoyed the space and the service. read more

Tasty meal and nice atmosphere. We made a reservation on Open Table and were seated right away. The menu was great and accurate of what was on the website. I ordered the arugula salad with salmon and asked for the salmon to be cooked through, and it was. Very flavorful and hearty. I also ordered the side of the lemon parm broccolini which was also good. The bread and herb butter as a starter was so delicious that we asked for seconds! The bread had a nice saltiness to it and the butter was herby and delish. Everyone else in my party enjoyed what they ordered, like the mushroom risotto and the mushroom pizza. The one major issue I had was with our waiter. I will say that he was rude to our table once it was clear that we were not ordering alcohol. We were as polite as we could possibly be and still we felt overlooked and ignored. I was so excited to give this place a try! I went with 2 friends, we arrive and no seats in the dining room since they had too many reservations but there was a table open in the bar so no problem. One of the bartenders was supposed to be our server. She came over 3 times in over 3 hours. I ordered my first appetizer which was ricotta cheese and fruit. That first order was no issue. She finally comes back to refill mimosas and take our second order..I also ordered a water with my second app and neither showed. She came back over an hour later apologizing because she was busy. I told her no problem but I'm not paying the $32 for the unlimited apps when I got literal cheese and fruit and that's it. (They were closing soon at this point) Told her however I will pay for the drinks no problem. she legit goes "well I have to charge you for the food" WHAT FOOD lol I ordered one app on a menu that's supposed to be unlimited? I didn't want to argue with her. She asked what I wanted as an entree because "I had to order one"...I really just wanted to leave. But like I said I didn't want to argue so I asked if I could have my entree and my second app to go since I never received it. She proceeds to tell us they have run out of what I ordered for a second app over an hour ago. I wanted to just get my entree and leave at this point and of course she delivers it on a plate and I have to remind her I asked togo. I truly wouldn't have cared if i was discounted the food.
