TLDR: Sesame Flavored Shredded Chicken. This place has got a strange nightclub kinda vibe to it. It's dark in there for some reason, and there's a stage?? It's disconcerting when you go there for lunch, and you're in this dimly lit dining room filled with booths. Let's just say it's not a typical HK Cafe "atmosphere". I'm hip and I know how to use a mobile phone, but I'm still glad to see menus, instead of just QR code. Sure, the menus could be Covid-infested or whatever, but, it's satisfying to feel the lamination. My wife ordered the Sesame shredded chicken, while I tried their curry chicken. It took some time, longer than expected, but not an interminable amount of time. But it finally came. First the good. My wife loved her dish. It had minimal sauce, just the right amount for her, in fact. The sesame, garlic, ginger were all delightfully delicate, but still let their presence known. The chicken itself was moist and not dry at all. It's a delicate dish, not oily. It's a traditional HK type of dish that you'd get on the street. It's not the type of dish that would smack you in the face, saying, "I'm here and I'm SAUCY!!" (which is the type of dish I like). My curry dish was WAYYY too spicy. Normally, HK curries aren't that spicy, preferring to give more of an aroma. But this was more akin to Vietnamese or Thai spicy. It wasn't thick, but more watery, typical of those southern Asian curries. It was quite frankly, too spicy for me. I didn't enjoy it at all. I normally like the Japanese Curry or the (traditional HK-style) curries, where it's thicker and more flavorful than spicy. Despite my wife's love of her dish, we are both most disappointed by the lack of any kind of Lunch specials. One of the staples of a HK-style cafe is the lunch special, usually with a soup and a drink (either free or discounted). There was none here. Updated review - Mar 22 for lunch I know in my previous review they have higher prices but I think they raised it again. Entrees are close to $20 per person for cafe food, which I think is too high. There's other options for $15 range which is a bit more reasonable imo despite inflation reality. Definitely not coming back again for lunch. They also changed the food menu too, didn't see extra thick French toast or curry fish balls as appetizer options. No more A/B/C meal options if you didn't wanna think as much. read more

I've come here multiple times for dinner with my family and relatives. We usually make reservations ahead of time so we don't have to wait. They have really good deals for family style sharing combinations. It's only a little over $60 for 6 dishes and $1 more for fried rice! We got tomato egg and chicken; eggplant; stir fry veggies; sweet and sour pork chops; egg and shrimp; and more! All of the dishes are pretty good in flavor and the portion sizes are standard. Plus it comes with free soup and fruit as dessert at the end Service can be a bit slow sometimes because they get super busy but the servers always apologize and update us with the latest info. Food is ok but really can't come back again strictly because of the karaoke. - it took us an hour to get seated because there were literally tables just empty but the patrons wouldn't leave because they wanted to watch or do whatever. - people setting up for karaoke meant loud mic squeaking and random loud noises. I thought it was going to get better after set up but... - it's karaoke so you have people who don't sing well, but worst of all is when it's so loud your ears hurt. Definitely don't bring babies or children if you want to protect their ears. My baby has been holding his ears crying. How is this karaoke even a good option for you as a business? People left in a hurry with unfinished food. People left the waitlist because it was too noisy and the wait was too long. Then you have people squatting at tables doing jack. We have been in clay pot rice withdrawal the past few months and vola, Local Cafe to the rescue. The Cantonese food here is legit, we ate there 4 times in 3 weeks. But be prepared for very slow service. Chinese sausage clay pot rice (4/5): only minor complaint was not enough crispy layer on the side or at the bottom, good sausage and preserved fatty ham. Clay pot rice with ribs (3/5): normally the ribs should be tender, juicy & succulent. But theirs was the quick & lazy version: previously fried ribs that are added to the clay pot at the end, nonetheless the ribs were still flavorful . Clay pot rice with sausage and meat pie (5/5): excellent Clay pot rice with sausage and salty fish (5/5): you have to break the chunks of salty fish into smaller pieces, watch out for small bones. Beef egg drop chow fun (4/5): twice the amount of beef you will find in other places, meat was tender and delish, the running egg gave it the silky smooth texture. A genuine Cantonese chef can turn an ordinary piece of beef into the texture of Ruth's Chris filet. Salt & pepper tofu (4/5): came out piping hot with a crispy crust, the interior was soft but not as silky as I would like, so probably not the freshest tofu but acceptable, loved the fried garlic, scallion and peppers. We got this almost every time, very addictive chives stirred fry with clams and eggs (5/5) 5 spices shredded tofu stirred fry with pork (5/5): lighter sauce than the classic norther versions, have more shredded veggies such as celery and sweet peppers. Salty fish with chicken & tofu clay pot (4/5):ok but not spectacular Beef Lai Fun in sour soup (4/5): soup was a little bland, good noodle and very tender beef. Upon request they gave us small cups of daily house soup, this was your typical Cantonese home made soup with pork/carrots/daikon, clear, light and flavorful. They decor is casual and cool, as if you are dining in a canteen in the middle of a grocery market. There are varieties of Asian drinks and beers (Japanese, Taiwan, Chinese,etc...) in the fridge, as well as interesting Asian snacks lined up on the shelves against the wall. You can also find Humphry Slocombe ice cream in their freezer. Service (2/5): it's always under staff esp on weekdays. Sometimes only 1 waiter trying to take care of all the diners (indoor + outdoor) + take outs. Yum! I've always been a fan of Hong Kong style food and this place did not disappoint. I ordered the pork chop with chicken teriyaki sizzling plate and it came with a free drink option so I opted for the milk tea. The presentation was great and the portions were big. The pork chop was tender and the chicken super crispy yet still juicy. The teriyaki sauce wasn't too sweet either. My friend took me here for the first time, she live around the area. She came for the abalone chicken pork tripe black pepper soup. I love it as well, I have try this soup at many place before, so far they are the best. The taste balance of the abalone and the chicken is perfect. Had lunch with my mom here and saying I was starving is an understatement. Luckily local cafe came to the rescue! We were seated right away and served hot tea which was nice since it was so cold outside. The menu had so much selection! (Sorry forgot to take pics of the menu) but they had lunch rice plates, noodles, hot pot and so much more. We ordered the salt and pepper tofu, and do this early if you want it because it takes some time to cook. Then we browsed the menu and we each decided to get a lunch plate, I got Chinese broccoli beef and my mom eggplant chicken, Plates came out heaping with food! The portions were large, veggies tasted fresh, and the food was overall delicious. The salt and pepper tofu was my fave as it is lightly fried, then topped with a mountain full of seasoning (see pic). Our waitress was very nice and attentive during our lunch. Oh and before I forget, there is refrigerator full of drinks, a majority of it alcoholic. If you're in the mood for a drink, they have a vast selection! This location took over what used to be spicy town. They've remodeled it to be brighter and took away some of the industrial look it had before. They've added a kiddie soft play area in the front, whether or not that's supposed to be while you dine I'm not sure. I thought it was a bit pricey for a HK cafe when we first glanced at the menu, but the portions were larger than I expected. French fries were ordered as an appetizer er but they came out after the entrees. The Beef chow fun was okay, def was better with the hot chili oil added in. Their chow fun noodles were actually the smaller skinny kind rather than the traditional fat kind. The baked pork chop, chicken, in bolognese sauce tasted the same as other traditional HK cafes. Nothing spectacular but it wasn't bad. The booths take up a majority of the restaurant, not sure how busy they may get at night time. Drinks run about $3.25 or so, with out entree usually HK places offer a free tea with the entree. If you're in the area it's worth a try but if I'm in the mood for HK cafe, I rather go to Venus Cafe or Cousins. read more

The noodle soups are really good, flavorful . I really like the flavor of N2 the organs noodle soup (has a slight curry taste, super great flavor). We came in for indoor dining. No one was available to seat us for a good few minutes until we made our own way to one of the tables... then a waitress finally noticed us. After ordering, the food starting coming out one by one TO OTHER CUSTOMERS. Even those who were seated long after us. All in all, it's Hong Kong style eatery that's serving up some decent portions. Only annoying thing is they have a $30 minimum for credit card. For two people, that's going to be a lot of food. I don't come here frequently but for a Sunday afternoon they were definitely WAY understaffed. The waitress kept saying she was ready to take our order but you can tell she needs to keep her eyes on at least 3 other tables as well. Tables were not cleared unless new customers arrived. My entire dining experience took over 1 hour due to the wait times. I shouldn't be surprised that they didn't set up a QR code for online ordering and payment to ease the workers. We've been wanting to come here but it's always full. We finally were able to get a reservation for 4 on a Sunday afternoon. Their menu has a lot of choices but my wife was craving for porridge. So we ordered their Sampan and preserved egg pork porridge. This is different from the congee we get from any Chinese place. Their Sampan has peanuts and their preserved eggs taste so good. The four of us shared both items and all of us were satisfied with how it was cooked and seasoned. Their salt and pepper tofu is also fresh and crunchy on the outside and soft inside. You've to eat it warm so that you can taste the crunchiness of the tofu. This is so good that we kept on taking a bite-size until it's devoured. Their combo pork chicken is also soft and tender. We like the flavor and seasoning that was prepared for the meat. It was also presented on top of a skillet and you can hear the sizzling sound of the meat. It came along with a plate of spaghetti. The spaghetti is not your normal tomato-based sauce. I think it was sauteed with butter and was also good. Lastly, we ordered this pan-fried noodle with chicken. The crunchy noodle is at the bottom of the mixed vegetable and chicken strips and gravy. We liked this noodle since the noodle was not soggy when served. It was just the right pan-fried noodle we expected. We noticed a small food store adjacent but we didn't check what food they're selling. We will browse next time we visit If you drive to Boscell Rd next to Costco in Fremont, try to dine here and you'll not be disappointed. This is THE SPOT for the 3 entrees and soup combo. They also specialize in HK food similar to Venus Cafe. The food is PACKED with FLAVOR and slightly on the lighter end. I've been to this cafe a few times during COVID and the food is good every time. My favorite thing to get is the sizzling platter with steak or assorted chops and it comes with a drink. It's hard to eat that since it requires the sizzling platter and you can't order that for to go, it doesn't taste the same. They have indoor and outdoor dining now. Service is a little slow when I went today due to only 1 waitress and it was a capacity inside but we were prepared for that since not a lot of Hong Kong style cafes have indoor dining. I was on the hunt to find some lunch with our boba last Friday and saw that Local Cafe was open. I decided to look at their menu which is conveniently located outside and saw that they were a Hong Kong Style cafe. There was a wonton noodle soup on the menu and I decided, why the heck not? Local Cafe is located right next door to Asian Pearl. There's a fair amount of parking in the front, but I was there on a weekday (Friday to be exact) around noon. So I strolled in and no one was at the desk in the front. There's a giant wall between the next larger room full of tables. I stood there for a while and then someone behind me poked herself in the open area and someone asked how many people. I was lucky enough that she gestured to me as she knew I was there first. I don't understand why you would have a main desk in the front if there's no person to man it or sign to say go straight in? It's a pretty large spot so it's quite a trek to go from the front to the back to just do a to go order. On my way back there, I noticed there were more private rooms on the side for larger groups. Well I strolled all the way to the back to do my to-go order. I knew that they only accepted cash at the moment and lucky for me, I had it on me. So I just double checked what was on the menu and went on to order. The guy behind the counter muttered "$8.70" with no smile, took my money, and gave me my change. I had to ask how long it would take before he could turn and run away. He said 10 minutes so I walked on out to Super Cue to claim my BoGo. I came back a little over 10 minutes and it was all ready to go. I got home and it's an okay serving of noodles with 5-6 wontons. The flavor of the soup was kind of bland. The wontons also bland. It's like it was lacking pepper. The egg noodle was pretty standard so thank goodness they got that right. Other than that, I've just had better wontons and better noodle soup. I don't know if I would be back unless we're tempted to try something else from their menu or we're super hungry and have no other option. Maybe it's just some growing pains, but more courteous and friendly service would be nice as well as people to greet in the front or some kind of sign to show what to do when you enter. read more

Been to this place a few times! Not sure why some reviews are so bad but I have never had any bad experience. We were always greeted nicely. The waitresses are sweet and very attentive! They may have a language barrier but still able to get our orders right. We have ordered their lunch plates which are good and very generous portions. We ordered salt and pepper tofu which is very good! We've had congees and sizzling plates and all good! They have a huge selection of beers!
