Honestly, real talk for a minute here - you need to go here and other than your crew, NOT TELL ANYONE about it. I've only been once, for a corporate evening but have plans to go back very very soon. The host put us up in the loft, which oversees most of the south area of the restaurant. Two large tables with with comfortable bar stools were our home for the evening. Ambiance was humming, but never too loud. There is also a shuffleboard set up happening in the loft. Again, you're welcome. Drinks! While the cocktail list is pretty decent, I stuck to beers since they had an impressive list of items on tap. The servers were knowledgeable - with just the right amounts of suggestive and supportive. In addition to knowing what they were talking about, they kept the drinks coming. Food! My, oh, my. Tasty treats abound. Do yourself a favor and try a number of the appetizers. Spices and flavors abound across the menu. After spending most of my morning nearby at the lake a few friends and I headed over to LOCAL Public Eatery to catch the ending of the France versus Portugal soccer game. We came towards the tail end of brunch so the place was packed at first. However, there was still seating near the TV sets for us to take advantage of. I ordered the 'paloma fresca' cocktail that has tequila, grapefruit, and soda in it. Our waitress mentioned it was her favorite drink. It wasn't overly sweet nor was it overly bitter. I definitely recommend it. Food-wise, I ordered the fish taco, which was amazing! It's batter-fried fish with slaw and pico de gallo topping it off. The plate even came with a side of hot sauce. A few weeks ago I went out to this bar for a boys night out and the bar had a great atmosphere and was a very fun night with good variety of bat games. One server in particular though had some amazing customer service and made it an enjoyable visit. Her name was Des, she had an abundance of positive energy and made it a fun overall experience. I came back a week later while I was with my kids visiting the space needle and I decided to drop by here again and was served by the same server, once again I had an amazing customer service experience with her as my server, she even brought out some colored pencils and drawing paper for my kids for entertainment. I would recommended this place not only for the great atmosphere but also for the great customer service from Des. I will definitely be continuing to come back and hopefully will have Des as a server continously. read more

We had a party reservation of 20+. We showed up there to find out, that they had messed up our reservation. South Lake Union is already pretty notorious to get a group party seated, and this reservation mix up was a big let down. I don't think people show up to restaurants with a team, always for the food. Its more for the group seating ambiance. We waited about 15 mins before they seated us scattered, and 20 more minutes before they managed to move some of the scattered folks into neighboring tables. One of the group's tables had their orders taken, while the other just waited around for 15 minutes. By the time the appetizers came to the second group's table, the first one was wrapping up with their main course. Half the food arrived cold, I just ordered a regular beef burger, it tasted pretty bad and kind of medium rare. It wasn't well done (waiter did not ask me if I wanted it well done or not and I forgot to mention that). Group1 tried to hurry through their meal, since group2 was done and just waiting on us. I ended up leaving with quite the service disappointment, a partially empty belly and a not so great team outing. If you are in the SLU area, and are trying to go here for lunch with a party size of more than 4, please go elsewhere. I was here for Monday night football and found this place to be a very chill sports bar flooded with Amazon employees (as it is attached to Amazon). The service left something to be desired as with their very bland fried calamari. Yet, I found the Szechuan edamame were packed with flavor albeit a little salty. My favorite part about this place is the four dollars surprise wine (you don't know what you will get). Who doesn't love surprises and who doesn't love cheaply priced wine? New build outs in Amazonia always make me nervous. They are usually either packed or terrible, sometimes both... But LOCAL definitely surprised me. The large open space is well laid out. Bar tables for small groups, large communal tables, lounge areas, and a traditional restaurant side. The bar has big windows that can be opened up on a sunny march day. They have a well managed selection of beers here, including a "next tap up" list. They eschew a traditional happy hour for a daily beer ($4 Fremont IPA on tuesday) and wine ($2 off) special. No food specials though. Speaking of the food, I was very impressed with the taste and quality of everything. The portions are on the smaller size for the price. The Calamari was tasty but nothing new. The Tijuana Caesar Salad was spicy and delicious. I actually wished there was more salad in the bowl! Go with the Al Pastor for more kick! The Ahi "Poke" was a little ginger and sesame heavy, but the avocado helped balance everything out. It was a decent portion for $11. Do not miss the Churros! Crisp on the outside and tender in the middle, a decadent treat with the dipping sauce! LOCAL is a great spot and if I worked in the area, I'd be a regular! read more

I prejudged this place so hard because it has such a generic yuppie-magnet name that it seems straight out of an episode of Portlandia...BUT. It is actually a pretty solid spot for happy hour in SLU. I came here with a couple of coworkers after work and got some beers and apps and just had a nice, chill time. Service is super fast and friendly, and I love how big the space is. First off, that means that the place doesn't get packed too easily, but what's also cool about the space is that there's a ton of different seating areas that kind of breaks up LPE into a bunch of different vibes. You've got the high tables and bar area, you've got the small tables and booths area, and you've got the outside patio-esque area. They've got a pretty decent beer selection, and I have yet to try any cocktails here as I'm usually just feeling a nice cold beer after work. We had the calamari, which was really good, the yam fries, which were super tasty and came with the best dipping sauce, and the chips+guac. The guac was mixed right at our table, which I thought was a nice touch. The chips:guac ratio is a bit high, but that's almost always the case if you're a guac-hound like I am. I've been here two times. This place is a little expensive for the stuff they give you, but it's Westlake, so it is expected I guess. (Sorry, I don't have pictures, I forgot!!) The first time me and my bud both got a burger. Nothing too special, but it's good. U Need A Burger over in Fremont is probably better. Second time, my bud got the chicken sandwich and I got the steak sandwich. The steak is not a great cut or anything, it's pretty lean and without much marbling. Another thing is is that it's not actually assembled as a sandwich; they put the whole piece, uncut, nested in two slices of garlic bread. The garlic bread is pretty damn good, and the tomatoes you get are also decent, but nothing special. Both times we went here the sweet potato fries are better than the regular fries, but as a warning there's a slight upcharge. The regular fries are nothing special at all and honestly underwhelming. My friend said the chicken sandwich was good, but relatively small, and I am inclined to agree about the steak sandwich as well. However, I eat a lot, so take it with a grain of salt. You get a disproportionately large about of regular fries, however. You get relatively less sweet potato fries as well if you opt to purchase. The ambience is for younger folks and it's nice. Pretty dark. The service is a little strained. I empathize for the servers because they seem to be quite busy. Overall, probably 3.5/5, would go here again if I'm in the Westlake area. But overall I think Capitol Hill has better stuff for less money, so don't make the trip out exclusively to try this place. read more

I visited here for the first time today, was told their chicken is from a company in Canada, the meat from Nebraska via a processing company called Ameristar. (Just how industrial is Ameristar? They definitely focus on pub style food and also have a great selection of beers, including both mainstays and regular rotators. I go so frequently I figured I should finally review the place. I have gotten pretty boring with my ordering, as I typically always order the same thing: The Deluxe Burger, swap raw onions for griddled onions, add 'shrooms, with a side of BBQ sauce. Their burgers are made and pressed in house, and the buns are also freshly baked in house. The Deluxe includes cheese and bacon, in addition to the regular condiments of lettuce, tomato, onion, and mustard. You can taste the freshness of the burger and the bun. The burgers are quite messy, extremely juicy, and quite hearty. The buns are the perfect consistency, not too dense but with great flavor, and complement the burger nicely. The burgers comes with shoestring fries that have a very nice crisp and flavor to them, and though you get ketchup with the fries, I always ask for a couple sides of BBQ so I can dip my fries and put it on my burger. Some days when I am trying to feel more healthy I will get a side Caesar salad instead, which has a slight kick to it and is quite good. Occasionally I will go for the Yam Fries which are also delicious. I have branched out once and tried their tacos. They have 2 types...fish and carne asada. The fish is like fish and chips (without the chips) and in my opinion is mediocre. The carne asada, on the other hand, was pretty tasty. For dessert they offer churros, which I found to be quite curious, but they were actually quite good and a bit unique, particularly for a place that specializes in pub food. I rarely get them since the burgers are so filling, but they are a nice finisher if you have the room for them! On a very recent visit I tried their poke appetizer and was quite impressed with the flavor. The place is quite large, which is a good thing considering how busy it generally gets at lunch time. On nice days the front windows retract out like garage doors, and they also have patio seating. If you have a larger group it is best to go either around 11:30 or after 1 to ensure you don't have to wait long for a table. I have found that the service can largely depend on how busy they are, resulting at times in longer waits for food. I have never had a problem with the food itself though, as it is always delivered hot and fresh and delicious. The cost can add up if you max out your burger and get a beer, making a $20+ lunch, but the quality of the burger makes that acceptable. In my opinion this is one of the best burgers you can get in SLU. If you are looking for a great lunch spot, you should check out Local. read more
