Truly a wonderful visit and delicious dinner! This is the first time I've been to this establishment since it changed from Poke King. I was a bit of a skeptic as the prices increased. Having so many children, it is important for me to have a good quality as well as a good price. We arrived about 7 PM and there was no other patrons in the shop. That scared me for a minute, considering 7 PM is prime time dinner time. This soon changed after we entered, there was a huge rush of people. At that point I felt lucky that we arrive just at the beginning. We were greeted warmly by a counter girl and she seemed genuinely happy to help us. She immediately asked us if we were going to be doing poke bowls or ordering from the Hawaiian menu. I let her know that we would be doing both. What we ordered: 1x Combination barbecue with chicken and beef. 1x large poke bowl with Salmon and yellow tail. 1x Large poke bowl with scallops, octopus, salmon, tuna, and yellowtail. On creating the bowls, we decided to go with the mix greens for bass. We had two scoops of the imitation crab, edamame, tobiko, seaweed salad, mango, scallions and crunchy onions and garlic. For sauces we had both miso mayonnaise and truffle infused ponzu. My daughter asked for some of the mango habanero sauce on the side. First I have to say, that the scoops were quite generous and three of us were able to share two of these large bowls with enough left over to take home . The sauces were delicious, the fish fresh, the add-ons Round of these off to be most excellent Pokr bowls. The Hawaiian barbecue was not traditionally what I expected, however very delicious. The chicken had a nice char like a hibachi chicken. The rice was delicious and the macaroni salad had a slight peppery infusion that was really nice. Also the price was not as high as the online menus made it seem. About $15 per bowl. As we were leaving, the girls called out a farewell. I really enjoyed the friendliness, the service, the quality and the atmosphere of this Poke/Hawaiian BBQ joint. We will definitely come back. There are three tables of four with a high bar communal counter that can seat four comfortably. Order & pay at the counter. Find a seat. When your order is ready it's delivered to your table. We are gluten sensitive, and although their menu lists the gf items, I still called to check and unless we ordered lemongrass tofu - which I'll be trying next time- it was all poke bowls for us and we are totally ok with that! I first went to the one in Reno (which is also very good) and they told me they had a location in Sparks, I became super excited, because it was close to home! Finally got to try this place and really loved it! I've tried Moco Loco at different places here in Reno before and it never tasted right for me until I tried it here and it was just right. I got the Mochoci chicken plate lunch, which was basically katsu chicken with a drizzle of orange sauce on top. It came with a scoop of mac salad and two scoops of rice. I also got a Hawaiian sun drink, but they do have regular soda or Ramune. They have ice cream sandwiches in the shape of fish, too, with strawberry, matcha or chocolate flavors. So fun. One of my favorite places in town. Their thing is poke. And island style cuisine. Something I always recommend to any of my chicken loving friends. One of my favorites is their mochiko chicken. Mochiko is a breading they use on their chicken that gives it the perfect crisp and good flavors too! And lord knows the sauce they put on their mochiko chicken is something I crave. But I recently made the conversion to the pescatarian life style. So their lemongrass tofu plate was my selection this time around. And it was done right. You always know a place knows how to make tofu when they can get the tofu to hold flavor. But for anyone pescatarian they've got plenty of fish selections also. Occasions I'll get the salmon tacos that they have which is one of my favorites too. I've been to both sparks and Reno location. And they're consistent. Which is what any great business wants. Stopped in with a friend for an early quick dinner. It was the first time we've been at this location. Service from the girls at the counter was friendly, polite and they were eager to please. My friend got a regular pokè bowl and I got two kinds of tacos. My friend commented that her bowl tasted really fresh. My two tacos were full of flavor. The salmon belly taco was crispy and had purple cabbage and a kimchi flavored "slaw" as accompaniments in the taco. All together the flavors blended well and the salmon was delicious. The spicy lemongrass tofu taco was also delicious. The tofu piece was a great size. But I would prefer a milder slaw than the kimchi as it was too strong in flavor and overpowered the lemongrass tofu...perhaps a different and milder cabbage mix would have been more synchronous with the tofu. The only (personal) drawback is that the menu for the poke bowls are only seafood but the good things is their hot plates are just delicious. I had the mochiko chicken with a side (on top) fried egg. It was quite delicious but my favorite is still the garlic chicken. The portions are quite generous and you are sure to leave satisfied... with enough room for dessert :) The staff is really great and add to the nice atmosphere and vibe the place has. My first experience here was with the Yelp Elite a few months ago. I had such good service and delicious food I decided to come back and try another yummy dish. Once again I was not disappointed. The first time I had the lemongrass tofu and it was delicious so this time I decided on a tofu bowl. My bowl was full of yumminess like tofu, white rice, cilantro, cucumbers, mango, pineapple, dried shallots and garlic in a yummy sauce, the first bite was just as satisfying as the last. I love the way they are not skimpy with the food and your tummy is more than full when you finish. This was my second time trying Loco Ono and I'm really loving this place! The first time I came, I tried a poke bowl. They have a number of options to create your own with all fresh ingredients. It was very tasty! This time I wanted a hot plate so I tried the garlic shrimp meal which comes with white rice and a side of macaroni salad. I also added a fried egg to go on my rice. It was delicious! The shrimp was nice and crispy with a good amount of garlic for flavor. I also had some spicy mayo on the side to mix in with my rice and shrimp. It complimented my meal nicely. It doesn't look like the meal is big but it's surprisingly very filling. Both times I visited this establishment, the environment was very clean and had great customer service by the lady who works the front (unfortunately I don't recall her name). I'm so glad that I was able to partake in an Elite Event which offered a sampling of Loco Ono's menu! It's a bit difficult to find - so, in an effort to help others - It's in the Iron Horse Shopping Center, by the Metro shop. Obviously plenty of parking, and when I walked in at lunchtime I was immediately welcomed by the employees behind the counter. It's clean, well-lit, and there are a few tables and chairs around (they are practicing distancing, masks, and gloves) There is a large glass case with all the fresh ingredients on display for the Poke bowls. I had looked at the Yelp reviews and had my heart set on chicken Katsu with Curry so I'll try a poke bowl next time (and believe me, there will be a next time!!) It's made to order, because it took about 10 minutes, and I don't mind that for fresh hot food to go. The employees were friendly and answered any questions I had and made it truly a quick and easy lunch process to go! It was a hefty plate of food!!! It was the best Katsu I've ever had, and the sause (OMG) it was to die for. It was far too much food for one person, so I'll have it for dinner also. Good, but salty. Like, so, SO salty. We still ate it, tho. We consider tako a true test of fish freshness, since it should be briny and snappy but not rubbery, you know what I mean, tako fans? But it was very salty. Our order was so good, that I reordered online the Cali Style Salmon the very next day as I left the gym! This is where it gets weird. When I arrived, about 10 min after my order should have been ready, they said they had never received my online order. With my confirmation screenshot in hand, they made my order ASAP, but made something ENTIRELY different than I had just the day before. This was a mess of the salmon & krab salad mixed together, with just some thin avocado slices on top. Still kinda OK, but not quite as nicely made as my first order. What a fun spot! I visited Loco Ono today as a perk for Elite Week. Man, I wish we had a Loco Ono closer to South Reno. The atmosphere is fun. You can tell the owners made an investment into nice branding and making the space welcoming. Inside, there's 3 tables that seat 4 each and additional bar seating that looks out the front window. There's also a nice patio with large picnic tables and umbrellas. The gals working the counter were really nice! There's a very good selection of food, drinks & desserts (in the cooler) and the menu is easy to order from. Loco Ono serves both poke and Hawaiian bbq including lunch plates, musubi, tacos and noodles. It was a bit of a wait for the food, but no more than other local Hawaiian spots. If you're in a hurry, the poke might be faster. Portions for the lunch plates were huge. The teriyaki chicken plate was perfectly cooked with lots of flavor. Served with two generous scoops of rice and macaroni salad. The lemongrass tofu was delicious but could be improved- texture and flavor was right on, but some sauce would help the dryness of the fried tofu. Make sure you check out the coolers- there's a large selection of unique drinks and ice cream treats! There were four(!) flavors for the fish-shaped ice cream sandwiches (only $2) and pints of ice cream including flavors like lychee or red bean. I'll be back for sure! read more
