broccoli and cheese soup, steak sandwich

12.28.09 I must say, really reasonable prices for food at a ski resort. Four meals under $40 is impressive! Go for the broccoli and cheese soup if you're not super hungry. I'm glad I did, though I was hungry again in 90 minutes. Guess that's what snacks in the camel pak are for!

I've eaten at a lot of ski resort's over the years. Lodgepole Cafe absolutely stands out as one of the very best. There Mount Rose burger is a great example of the quality of the food the serve. It's a really good burger, and s quality bun. They of course have a excellent Turkey burger and Veggie burger too. You can get either regular fries or the sweet potato version. Oh they have a fairly extensive menu. Everything from breakfast Burrito's to Both Beef or Veggies. They also four or five different salads too. On the way to the cashier you'll find a variety of goodies which include some bomb chocolate chip and Maca Damien nut cookies. This year you can tie your credit card and make it even more convenient. Plus with a season pass there's a additional discount of 25%. And of course the vib from the staff at Mt Rose always exceed my expectations. I don't know about weekends, but this ski resort has busboys that come by to see if they can help take your tray after lunch. Mt Rose has the most welcoming atmosphere.

Until this 4th of July weekend (250/2026) we had never heard of Archie's. It was recommended to us and we stopped in on Sunday the 5th for lunch on our way out of town. What an amazing choice. I ordered their bacon cheese burger. Guess what? It was GIANT. It was delicious. It was perfect. Comes with fries but I got onion rings. The onion rings were perfect too. Largest order of rings I have ever seen. The burger (1/2 Lb I think!!) had nice thick bacon in every bite, two large and fresh slices of tomato, a big old slab of an onion slice, mayo and lettuce. I can't remember if there were pickles. It was the best burger and onion rings I have eaten in at least ten years, maybe 20. We will be back, EVERY time we are in town from now on. I can't recommend this place enough. Special shout out to David, our server. This guy made no mistakes. Laughed at all my stupid dad jokes, was attentive, patient while my companions changed their minds 36 times, and was friendly too. Says it was only his 2nd day on the job, but I wish he had been working for us at our restaurant (Hokkaido Noodle House) in Sacramento. He is a pro already, give him reasons to keep working for you boss. Don't worry, we won't steal him from you, we are retired and closed our joint 10 years ago. Rock on Archie's! You have earned a few new fans today.

Was surprised it had a second floor with a small deck and pretty decent views! Big place. Great Happy Hour Deals (half off drinks) and other specials. I haven't eaten breakfast there but the burger I'd put in the top 4 in Reno. It is giant diameter wise but the meat is the same amount of a smaller thicker burger which makes it no too hard to eat. I'd call this a Purist's Burger. Crisp lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, mustard, sauce. They went really light on the sauce to the point I didn't think it had any. Fries were excellent too. Price is very reasonable (that's typical near a college.) I've tried Royce, Juicy's, and The Parlor. I'd put Archies below Royce and Parlor but above Juicy's. Two left on my list are Armando & Son's Butcher Shop and of course Beefy's.

Brunch is all day on Sundays however they do have a lunch menu starting at 12pm, so we ordered from each menu. The ahi nachos were great, thick pieces of tuna and a great sauce drizzled over. The Mushroom Lover's Omelette was fluffy and had a LOT of gruyere. The potatoes it came with were herbaceous and very well fried. While we didn't try the chocolate, their cocktails were cute and the DJ wasn't annoyingly loud. Someone celebrated their birthday here, which is the overall vibe of this place

When we arrived, every table was full, so we grabbed seats at the bar. It turned out to be a great spot to watch the bartenders create beautiful drinks, including some of their signature cocktails served in a glass purse for parties of two or more. The atmosphere was lively and energetic, with groups celebrating birthdays and other special occasions. After looking over the menu, we decided on the lox crostini bites and the bruschetta. We each ordered a glass of sparkling wine. I added a chocolate rim to mine, which was fun to look at, although it didn't add much flavor. While we waited for our food, we enjoyed watching the flowing chocolate waterfall. Considering how busy the bar was, our food arrived quickly. The crostini were crisp, and both appetizers were fresh and flavorful. The only drawback was the volume of the DJ, but we knew what to expect as soon as we walked through the door. This is definitely a fun place for parties and groups looking for a lively night out. One last observation: I probably wouldn't choose this spot for a group of men. The décor and overall vibe are very much geared toward women, but the name says it all.

I tried the McIsley (fried chicken, dill pickles, ground mustard, honey) and nearly passed out from pure bliss. The biscuit is golden brown on the outside while warm and pillowy within. You'll need a fork and knife, but the menagerie of sweet and savory building blocks will come together any which way you deconstruct it. My wife tried The Chatfield (fried chicken, cheddar, bacon, apple butter) and was equally content. The Oregon Marionberry jam was a tart yet sweet customized side, and I much enjoyed the fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese to round off the plate. The breading is evenly blasted with seasoning and the tomatoes themselves are plump but not the least bit soggy. Without a doubt though, the service was unmatched. They handled a line going out the front door with class, getting us tables before we even ordered to remove the burden of seat searching and our food getting cold. They checked on the dining area promptly though they didn't have to. The staff's hospitality matches the southern inspo of the food! We sat outside and enjoyed the slight breeze as the heavenly baked aromas of the kitchen wafted outside. Overall, an 11/10 experience. Love biscuits? Run, don't walk!

Unfortunately, this visit didn't live up to that first experience. The atmosphere just wasn't very inviting, and the biggest disappointment was the silverware it was visibly dirty. That's something that's hard to overlook, especially at a sit-down restaurant. The food was decent. and based on my previous visit, I know they can make a good biscuit. It almost feels like this might be one of those places that's better suited for takeout than dining in. The gentleman that took our order must have been having a bad day the service was brass to say the least . For me, the overall experience just didn't justify another dine-in visit, so if I ever have Pine State Biscuits again, it'll probably be to-go.

It has a bit of the retro feel to it and was a nice place for lunch with a friend. I ordered the BLTA with a side of fries. I just had water to drink but there were multiple offerings from boozy to soft drinks and other non-alcoholic choices. Our server was attentive and checked on us throughout. The meals took awhile to get to us (I think their kitchen probably covers more than just Hanna's Table) but it was worth the wait. My BLTA was just as I liked it - crisp bacon, large slices of tomato, creamy avocado and lettuce leaves. A perfect classic with a touch of hipster add-on. Would I drive out of my way to eat here? Probably not, but since it is about 2 blocks from home it would be worth a return visit,
