I was shocked because it's been over a year since our last visit, and I wouldn't exactly call it a "simple steak" spot--but I was all in. Some people may think King Ranch is too fancy or expensive because it's near the Galleria, but don't let that stop you from trying it. Prices depend on what you order, just like any other steakhouse. The restaurant has a rustic ranch-style atmosphere, and anyone familiar with the Ford King Ranch edition will recognize the signature branding throughout. It wasn't busy when we arrived, and we were seated right away. I started with an Old Fashioned made with Woodford Reserve, complete with a hint of orange, bitters, and two Luxardo cherries. It was perfect. For an appetizer, we ordered the smoked brisket queso with chips. The brisket wasn't overly smoky and paired nicely with the queso, pico de gallo, and cilantro. The real standout, though, was the chips. They had a flavorful seasoning that took them to the next level. For his entrée, my husband ordered The Plate, which includes your choice of two or three meats along with slaw, onions, pickles, 7-Spice fries, and cowboy beans. He chose smoked turkey, smoked chicken, and sausage. The turkey and chicken were well-seasoned, juicy, and not overly smoky. The sausage had a great peppery flavor, and the cowboy beans were loaded with brisket, adding even more richness. The fries were delicious, but if you're not a fan of coleslaw touching them, ask for it on the side. As for me, I ordered the Tomahawk on the Block Ribeye, cooked medium rare, with grilled asparagus, chimichurri, and grilled mushrooms. Yes, I know I said I wanted a simple steak for lunch, but this was my version of simple. The tomahawk was cooked perfectly--tender, juicy, and full of rich beef flavor. It practically melted in my mouth. It didn't need steak sauce, but the chimichurri and grilled mushrooms were the perfect complement. They were so good that I ended up ordering another side. If you've been hesitant to try King Ranch, don't be. It's a great choice for lunch, dinner, celebrations, or simply when you're craving an excellent steak.

First visit was for my birthday and everything from the service to the food was phenomenal. I was too excited to eat my steak so there's no picture but if you're a steak girl like I am, you're gonna love it. Don't be fooled like I was with the icing situation, there's extra at the bottom and it's the right ratio of bread to icing. It's perfectly rich without being too sweet. Then I got the biscuits and bacon gravy with an over medium fried egg. The biscuits were sooooo fluffy but crispy in the edges even after being covered in gravy. I need to know what special things they're doing to the bread products because they're so so so so superior. Top it off with incredibly kind servers, and it's just a match made in heaven, to me, The inside can be a bit loud when it's packed, and it seems to have been packed on both my visits, but it's nothing crazy. Valet service at the front, unless you feel like driving next door for parking. MAKE A RESERVATION. It's easy to do and guarantees you a spot to eat. I don't usually mind a wait, but there's not any space to wait inside in the AC and in this heat, I couldn't imagine waiting outside for a table. But that's just me! All in all 10/10 and I can't wait to come back.

They do have free valet as it is sharing its parking lot, be sure to bring cash to tip the valets!

That way, all the oils, dirt and dust (from the individual containers) are all now mingled with the cooked meat and everything has a generous coating of oils and meat juice, inside the larger container. And as an added bonus, you may need gloves to take it all out of the package in order to eat it. Mind you, the cooked meat is hot and...guess what? The semi-solid whipped butter for the bread is now butter soup. Who is approving this packaging? Why don't you get a small container for just the meat and "brown paper bag" all the rest of the sides and condiments? It's baffling that someone thinks this is acceptable. The message is clear - Don't order takeout and always sit in the restaurant because your experience will be highly degraded from the regular dine-in experience. Do better.

The chicken was completely bland as was the sauce it was smothered with. This is the reason for my three star review. The other entree we had, the lamb chops were very good. Flavorful, crisply blackened on the outside and cooked to a perfectly juicy medium/medium rare temperature on the inside. The toffee cheesecake and chocolate mousse desserts were decadent and both the perfect size. They taste really good when you mix them together.
