This is probably my favorite Taiwanese restaurant! My favorite dish to get is the sizzling chicken steak hot stone meal with rice and either of the sauces. Both the black pepper and mushroom sauce goes very well with the rice. The drinks are always cafe level quality. The service is fast and efficient. And the ambiance is lively. It does get really busy on the weekends during dinner time and the only way to get on the waitlist is to physically sign your name on the waiting sheet. There's a ton of parking outside the restaurant so no worries there. read more

Tucked away in a small strip mall near Bel-Red Road, Looking for Chai is an unassuming Taiwanese cafe with plenty of options for the whole family, ranging from Americanized-Asian (think Black Pepper Steak, Popcorn Chicken, etc.) food to more traditional Taiwanese fare (i.e. Pork Feet Noodle Soup). My party of two was seated immediately at around 6:45pm on a Friday night, though the restaurant was packed to the brim with a buzzy atmosphere. Service is fast and efficient, if not super friendly - we were immediately asked for our order before having any time to peruse the extensive menu! My brother's drink came out in less than five minutes, and our food came out in less than ten, despite the crowded dining room! My brother ordered the Hokkaido Milk Tea with Pearls ($5.50, pearls are an extra $0.70), which he said had a nice caramel flavor with good quality tea, but he didn't love the fact that he wasn't able to adjust the sweetness. The boba pearls had a nice QQ-ness (a term from Taipei denoting a bouncy, al dente texture), and they didn't cheat him at all with using a ton of ice! The pricing is also competitive with other boba places around here, which is also nice. He also ordered the Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup ($14.95), which comes with a large portion of wheat noodles, tender beef, and bok choy in a rich, hearty beef broth. He's a teenage boy, so he had no problem finishing off the bowl in addition to his boba (as well as some of my entree), but it would be a great portion for most people! It was warming and well-seasoned on a cold winter day, with fresh green onions and pickled greens served on the side. I ordered the Three Spiced Chicken ($15.95, $2.50 to upgrade to a "meal", which comes with rice, corn, and tomato-egg), which came with a generous amount of small pieces of skin-on, bone-in dark meat. The chicken was immersed in a sweet and savory sauce with basil, bell peppers, and whole cloves of roasted garlic, which made for a really umami-tasting dish with textural contrast. I found that the chicken was cooked perfectly, but I did end up wishing for there to be less skin on the chicken (but that's a personal preference), as it started to become quite greasy and fatty. The corn was cooked really nicely, with an al-dente texture and a natural sweetness, which was great, since corn can often be an afterthought, and the tomato egg was savory and rich while still retaining a punchy acidity from the tomato! Overall, both of us really enjoyed our food, which was not only tasty and generously portioned, but also came out quite fast. Prices here haven't risen as much as other places in the area, so it doesn't seem as though this place was hit as hard by inflation. Our first question to our server when we came in here last night for dinner was, if they were related to the Edmonds location (next to 99 Ranch), and the server said they were different owners (which was a relief b/c the Edmonds location changed up their menu and I don't like them anymore). We came here on a Sunday at around 12:20pm and waited 10 minutes to be seated for a party of two. This is the Taiwanese restaurant that my friends seem to like the most in the greater Seattle area and we wanted to check it out. This location is in Bellevue and they also have one in Edmonds. B2 BRAISED PORK OVER RICE ($14.50) - I liked the sauce on the rice but the pork was a little tougher than I expected. I would've liked it to be more tender and melt in your mouth. The fatty part was soft but the meat was not. 3.5/5 B14 TAIWANESE SPECIAL BEEF NOODLE SOUP ($14.50) - The noodles were slightly overcooked and broth was not super flavorful. Some of the beef slices were more tender than others. Unfortunately this dish was not very special as its name suggested. 3/5 C2 CRISPY CHICKEN WITH SPECIAL SPICY SAUCE ($14.95) - Not only was the sauce special, this whole dish was special. The chicken was crunchy on the outside but juicy on the inside. The sauce was indeed spicy as they advertised so make sure you dunk the chicken in it. We came in just before the large crowd of people were coming in to have dinner on a Saturday night. After much deliberation, we decided on ordering three dishes: kimchi with lamb mini hot pot, Sakura shrimp fried rice, and the sweet and sour spareribs. I love this place. Everything about this place just makes it a staple in our routine. Usually when we go its not busy to the point we have to wait long this in my books is a plus. The service is nice but they don't waste time with small talk or are they short and rude. The dishes are made extremely quickly which is another plus when you are hungry. Then comes the food. Went here with a family of 5 a little after 7:00 pm on a friday. It was pretty empty when we arrived, but around 7:30 a bunch of people started showing up. The staff were very polite and nice, and gave us water immediately. We orrdered the: Oyster Pancake ($12.50): had a lot of this sweet red sauce, but very little actual oyster. Good, but wouldn't order again. Braised Pork Over Rice ($15.95): Decent portion size, but pork was extremely fatty, which we didn't personally like. The flavor was good, but there wasn't enough sauce to cover all the rice, and the rice itself had gotten a little stale and hard-it felt like the entire dish wasn't fresh. There were also little pieces of minced pork in the rice, which was nice, but I still wouldn't order this again. When we told the staff about the stale rice, they were very accomadating, and gave us an extra rice bowl. The rice here is on the dryer side in my opinion, though, but still good. Taiwan Special Beef Noodle Soup ($15.50) - the ten-year-old in my family really enjoyed this, and the beef was really tender and good. King Oyster Mushrooms with Salty Egg Sauce ($17.95) - they give you a LOT of mushrooms, and the mushrooms are so plump and juicy! There are also pieces of garlic and ginger, and everyone really enjoyed this dish. Sliced Beef or Lamb Sautéed With Bitter Melon in Taiwanese Satay Sauce ($18.25) - The piece of beef I ate was pretty good, but the bitter melon is definitely an acquired taste, so if you like that you'll like this dish. Chocolate Cookie Milk Tea ($6.75) - they gave this to us in a plastic boba cup, but the presentation was so pretty, with a mint leaf on top! If you like cookies and cream, you'll like this. I ordered 70% sweet, which was too sweet for me, so next time I'd opt for 50% or 30%. My family and I ate at Looking For Chai on a random weekday for lunch. We decided to order and share family style. We ordered: - Pork blood and intestine sautéed in spicy chili sauce -- The pork blood and intestines were flavorful and cooked with plenty of ginger to get rid of any weird taste. There is a kick to the sauce, but it was pretty mild overall. The dish is served in a pot with a lot of sauce, so we recommend getting a side of rice with this dish. - Water spinach with garlic sauce -- I've only tried water spinach in soup, so I had to try water spinach stir fried. The garlic sauce added enough flavor to the dish without the garlic breath afterwards. There was quite a bit of water spinach in this one order, and it was perfect to share family style. - Stir fry chives with squid -- The squid was perfectly cooked -- not over or under. The chives were so young and had flower bulbs still on them. We all enjoyed the simplicity but good quality of the ingredients in this dish. - Pea vines and mushroom in garlic sauce -- The pea vines were so young, and there were quite a bit of pea vines in this dish. Similar to the water spinach, the garlic sauce was enough to add flavor to the dish without leaving you with a garlic breath afterwards. - Sliced beef sautéed with scallions -- Thinly sliced beef pieces cooked to perfection (again, not overcooked) with a lot of scallion pieces. We were pleasantly surprised to find that there were a lot of beef slices in this dish, perhaps even more than the scallions. Service is very fast here -- from getting your order, getting your water refilled (without even lifting a finger), and paying. The wait to get seated was non-existent when we went, but we did notice a waiting list posted near the entry. Parking was plentiful for a random weekday lunch. I don't think parking would ever be full since some of the businesses sharing the lot does close on weekends. read more

We have come here too many times to count and for good reason - the food is delicious, the prices are reasonable, and the service is fast and efficient. They are located in a plaza with ample parking in the front and back, but does get crowded due to the popularity of the restaurant. The restaurant itself is cute and homey lined with many small seating tables with a woodsy feel. They have a sign up sheet in the front and a ordering counter for takeout in the back right of the restaurant. The menu is decently large with multiple ordering options for a variety of tastes. We have tried many dishes in the past, but my favorite is the fried chicken with special spicy sauce and the salt pepper pork chop. Their hot pots and popcorn chicken are also phenominal. Everything is seasoned well and their fried foods are delicious and crispy. They also make authentically wonderful bubble tea! I highly recommend their bubble tea if you love genuine milk tea. Whenever we come the servers are kind and fast to take our orders and the food comes out in less than 10 minutes. The servers are also very attentive and efficient. The hotpot too was surprisingly packed with other things she good for the 4 of us. The salt and pepper shrimp shell on was also nicely seasoned and crispy. My friend was not lying when she said this place was really good. She said her favorites were the honey milk tea (which our other friend LOVED) and the chocolate cookie milk tea. I tried the honey milk tea from one of them, and it wasn't too bad! And surprisingly, it wasn't too sweet even with 100% sweetness. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you're around the area if you like strong tea flavored drinks. I like to have vegetables with my meals and the hotpot dish came with a good amount. The sauces that was served with it was delicious. I believe one was a bean like sauce and the other sauce was a specially made. My partners dish was tasty. There was a crispy and tasty coating on the chicken. It's not the healthiest dish but my husband loved it. Just be careful cause the dish is hot and splashes thus "sizzling" dish. I thought it was oilier than it needed to be. Ordered two items The spicy crispy chicken was outstanding - great flavor and sauce isn't overpowering but provides a nice little kick with the Thai peppers. Probably order this every time I come back. 5+/5 Did sizzling plate the beef steak with black pepper sauce. Served with an medium over egg - almost like their version of a loco moco. Should be a 5 but just didn't have any flavor - too bland - how is that possible with black pepper sauce but ironically needed some sauce and maybe some overnight marinade for the meat. This is 3/5 - would not order again or else would need to ask for the spice rack in the back. Menu is extensive so won't have a problem finding other items to order. 4/5 and will return. read more
