This place is adorable! We went for lunch during our stay in Willits at an RV spot and when looking for a place with vegetarian options, can across the reviews for their extreme veggie. So glad we went, the sandwiches were delicious! Highly recommend.

There seems to be an abundance of independent eating establishments in the small pass-through town of Willets so the reviews were helpful. Else, we wouldn't have known about this little place on a side street. The restaurant is as cozy as a bistro with a nice, covered seating area in addition to the small dining room. The menu is impressive and primarily sandwiches and salads. (No French fries.) The Santa Fe Chicken sandwich was very good. The chicken Caesar Salad was fresh but I would have liked a little more chicken. Our server was very friendly and efficient. Note that they only accept cash or check and have an ATM. Very casual with styrofoam cups and paper plates.

Cash only. The sandwiches are very unique and fresh. They don't serve French fries with the sandwiches but do serve chips, salad and soups a la carte. The service was great. The ambiance is cute. I'd recommend Loose Caboose Cafe to others.

Hometown favorite always have to visit when i return. The menu has always been a classic nothing has changed and the food is still tasting outta this world. No matter what the day or the weather this spot always hits. Best sandwiches in the town my favorite being the chicken pesto. Staff is always so friendly and the dinning room and patio are very comfortable with plenty of seating. Make sure to check this spot out.

Had a friend rave about this place while we were in town so I had to check it out. Snuggled dreamily on a one way street it evoked charm from the exterior as you can see. It is blessed by amazing flora and fauna that graces the outdoor patio section, which is peaceful and makes you feel like you are in another world. The staff is helpful, attentive, knowledgeable and amazing. The food choices were tremendous. My friend had the Cordon Bleu, which he is still talking about and my WigWag pastrami was it's equal. Definitely a must to frequent in Willits.

Great little place. Super friendly - appeared to be many locals there. We split one of there cold subs - roast beef - had a fancy name but can't recall. Delicious- wish i woulda order a whole instead of splitting with my BB. Saw some salads coming out of the kitchen and they looked insane. I'm more of a sandwich guy but might have to try one next time we're in Willits. Note: they only take cash or check (kinda funny they take checks) but they do have an ATM in site. This place is delicious. Definitely a hit spot if you're wanting to have lunch and you're passing through or in Willits. Wait staff is nice and friendly and the restaurant is in a decent area. Only downside is that they only take cash. There is an ATM inside but there is a small fee. read more

Been going here forever 30+ years, they have been doing hot subs before anyone else. I couldn't recommend a better place to grab lunch in a nice friendly locals spot, all the waitresses are super nice. So glad it's still running in Willits. Always worth pulling over in Willits for a turkey depot sandwhich. read more

If you're hungry and driving through Willits, you need to stop here. We stopped somewhere else and quickly realized we made a mistake. So we left and found this place! Best decision. Driving back from Ft. Bragg we stopped here based on Yelp reviews - it was way more than we expected. Everything homemade. Delicious soups. Perfectly toasted bread on our sandwiches. We shared a salad and the veggies and lettuce were very fresh, and the salad dressing almost certainly homemade. The French dip is to die for. We will be back when we are in the area! read more

This place is soooooo good. I've been waiting 6.5 years to eat here because my husband and my best friend are from this town and swear by it. Today is our last day in town, and it's my second time going. The Santa Fe sandwhich is so good and so is the Reuben sandwhich but the Santa Fe is where it's at! Also, some idiot left a review complaining about their corn dogs and cookies. He's clearly a yuppy hipster because their sandwiches are what they're known for. Not freshly battered corn dogs and baked cookies. Idiot. read more

The problem with the loose caboose is that their food is too good, seriously I never thought I would ever say this but it's true. Everything I eat for a week after I dine at the loose caboose tastes horrible in comparison. Try eating a French dip anywhere else after you have had the loose caboose French dip..... Fantastic local cafe that serves fresh, delicious food. Tried the Santa Fe Chicken sandwich and my husband had a meatball sub. We loved both - fresh, flavorful, good sized portions. If you are anywhere near Willets, its worth a stop! We will definitely come back again! read more

This place didnt even get my business. My sister and I came in, no one bothered to help us, then they stared at each other when we asked for a table. No one came back to take our order! The girls all working there just flirted with the tatted and pierced guys at another table the whole time. Well good thing they took their sweet time because I realized they dont even take credit cards here, so we left. Thanks for not giving us an ounce of service. read more

My first experience with Loose Caboose will also be my last. My daughter and I went there today and ordered three sandwiches. I was excited to find a Reuben made with Pastrami instead of corned beef. When we ordered we were told approx. 15 minutes to get our order. So we left and returned fifteen minutes later only to be told it would be another ten minutes. We left again and returned approx fifteen minutes later. Our sandwiches were finally done. We went home to enjoy them and what a disappointment. When I unwrapped my sandwich there was minimum amount of meat, minimum amount of sauerkraut, and a minimum amount of cheese. The size of the sandwich was also a disappointment. The bread was also hard. For almost thirty two dollars I was expecting more of everything except wait time. The food was okay but not for me. read more

The greatest sandwich I have ever had. The first time I went to Loose Caboose I had gone with my college roommate back to her hometown. It is 12 years later and I still return to Willits dreaming of those sandwiches. I dont understand how people can live in Willits and not eat these constantly. My love and passion for their Turkey Depot and Chattanooga Chicken run deep. read more

Loose caboose is one of my all time favorite places to eat! I've eaten here for close to 18 years and never have I had a bad experience! It is a hidden gem, down a one way street in the heart of Willits. The restaurant is very small but the good ones usually are : ) they make the best subs and salads! Take a break from work and have lunch or pick it up for a day in the sunshine! My favorite sub is the turkey depot ; ) read more

We had intended to eat at Ardella's, but it was closed and we ate here instead. What a nice turn of events! Loose Caboose has wonderful food and a great staff. The dining room is kind of small and is stuffed with tables, to the point that it causes difficulty walking around (as when going to the rest room and the servers were always bumping into things and customers.) They have patio dining, too. This was a very pleasant experience, and we will be back! read more

A turkey depot and a small bowl of the soup of the day. The soup changes weekly and is normally something very intriguing and tantalizing. This is one of my top 5 favorite meals in town. Inside or outside seating with heaters outside. Booths line the walls inside with tables set for 4 filling in the rest of the restaurant. If you want the best of Willits, this is a must stop. read more

We are on a road trip, and decided to stop here. My husband got a French dip sandwich with tomato and avocado added on , and said it was the best French dip sandwich he's ever had!! I had the chicken marinara sub with no olives, and I'd say the same! We also got the soup of the day , which was delicious as well. We are half way thru our two week road trip, and have ate out for almost every meal. This is by far the best place we have ate at!!! I wish we had one in Kansas City, and I wish we could give this more than 5 stars!! A table next to us paid for our meal. Thanks! Tabitha was a great waitress!!! read more

Unless these sandwiches are made of gold, not worth the wait. I called in a to-go order...they said 25 minutes. Ok kind of a long wait, but probably will be worth it. I arrive 25 minutes later, and they reply "Oh it will be at least another 15. We haven't put it in the oven yet." In what world does it take 40 minutes to make a sandwich? Horrible. And now I'm going hungry :( read more

This place is awesome, people ask us where good lunch is in our little town and we always tell them to go here, its a teensy bit hard to find as it is off the main street, but at the same time for a little business to be so successful and given the location, they are surely doing something right. When we tell people they serve "soup and sandwiches" we really have to give a description because the sandwiches and salads are so top notch, the salad is always super fresh, never any gross lettuce and beautiful toppings, like avocado & bell peppers & black olives. Love their food!!! & so will you! read more

This place came highly recommended by a local friend. The food did not disappoint I ordered the chicken pesto sandwich with spicy ranch dip. I could Not have Been more pleased with my selection. The bread was fresh the chicken was lean and the pesto was not overpowering. My friend got the Ruben dog which she also loved. Tip: bring cash they don't take plastic. read more

We opened our doors in 1988, in the "caboose" of the old Country Mall, with just a few sandwiches and salads on our menu. Since then we have relocated, expanding both our establishment and our menu. We have become famous for having the best sandwiches in the area. Jill Persico, along with our amazing Loose Caboose staff, pride themselves on always serving quality food, having excellent customer service and making sure your dining experience is memorable. We offer incredible hot sandwiches, homemade soups, creative salads and specials that change daily. We serve a large array of drinks including both beer and wine. That's my experience of Northspur. I've never stopped here with friends, but I've thought of my friends while I've visited. As in, this is a place my friends would really like. The Willits bypass as observed by others and maybe other places by me was an unnecessary boondoggle that not only separated normal CA taxpayers from their money so as to avoid maybe five minutes extra travel time as they whisked north to ... to where would anyone need to be whisked in the north. I-5 is for whisking. 101 is for a different kind of trip. Not only that, the bypass also then has folks that don't know what's in Willits pass right on by. Their loss, though also a stake in the heart of the vitality of local business. Thanks, legislature, Caltrans and people that make money building things we don't need. This then for the people that would otherwise whisk by without stopping and are maybe hungry and turn to Yelp as the leave Ukiah to see what's ahead. Northspur is ahead, my friends. And if it's late in the day, get a room in town so you can sample every drop Northspur has to offer. The vittles aren't complicated, the menu isn't exhausting - but everything on it is good. The brewed offerings are delicious. Staff is straight out of Lake Woebegone (all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average). Friends with friends are having a rollicking good time and the vibe vibes with this happiness. I will stop every time. Try it once and I guarantee you will as well.

That's my experience of Northspur. I've never stopped here with friends, but I've thought of my friends while I've visited. As in, this is a place my friends would really like. I-5 is for whisking. 101 is for a different kind of trip. Not only that, the bypass also then has folks that don't know what's in Willits pass right on by. Their loss, though also a stake in the heart of the vitality of local business. Thanks, legislature, Caltrans and people that make money building things we don't need. This then for the people that would otherwise whisk by without stopping and are maybe hungry and turn to Yelp as the leave Ukiah to see what's ahead. Northspur is ahead, my friends. And if it's late in the day, get a room in town so you can sample every drop Northspur has to offer. The vittles aren't complicated, the menu isn't exhausting - but everything on it is good. The brewed offerings are delicious. Staff is straight out of Lake Woebegone (all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average). Friends with friends are having a rollicking good time and the vibe vibes with this happiness. I will stop every time. Try it once and I guarantee you will as well.

Fantastic Experience at Loose Caboose Restaurant! My family and I yesterday visited the Loose Caboose Restaurant, and we had an absolutely delightful experience! We ordered two sandwiches , cheesecake blueberry and a hot dog, and each bite was bursting with flavor. The ambiance of the restaurant was charming, especially for my son who adores trains. The walls adorned with vibrant train paintings and photos of trains everywhere made the atmosphere truly special. It felt like dining in a cozy train-themed paradise! The food exceeded our expectations, and the service was exceptional. The staff was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall wonderful experience. Loose Caboose Restaurant is definitely the best place to eat, especially for families with kids who love trains. We can't wait to visit again soon! Highly recommended. read more

The food was amazing. The staff very nice. Had the Pesto Chicken Sandwich. BUT... Why cash or check only? Not a good thing to find out when you don't carry cash and are traveling. Conveniently they had a ATM Machine at the counter for you. The $2.95 fee to get your cash was unexpected. There's this thing called Square that might help this place take cards. Weird to see any business for cash only. And only 3 parking spots!! read more
