It was my first time dining here, and I was blown away by the experience. Executive Chef Stephen Rinaldi went above and beyond by creating a custom, off-menu vegan lentil loaf just for me, it was not only delicious but also impressively resembled a traditional meatloaf! To top it off, it was my birthday, and I was treated to a complimentary sorbet dessert complete with a candle, such a thoughtful gesture. My girlfriend and I took some friends who were visiting from out of town to Loren on July 1 because we wanted to show them one of Spokane's newest restaurants. We had heard great things, and to be fair, the food absolutely lived up to the hype. Every meal was excellent, beautifully prepared, and easily the highlight of what should have been a memorable evening. Unfortunately, everything changed as we were leaving. The four of us stepped into the elevator, the doors closed, and it suddenly became stuck. It wouldn't move, and the doors wouldn't open. What started as a minor inconvenience quickly became a frightening situation. After realizing we weren't getting out on our own, we called the restaurant for help. We were told they didn't know where the elevator key was and didn't appear to have any emergency procedures in place. Rather than checking on us or keeping us informed, they simply called the elevator repair company. As time passed with little communication, we eventually felt we had no choice but to call 911 ourselves. The Spokane Fire Department responded, and an elevator technician eventually arrived. One of the most concerning moments was when the technician asked a restaurant employee where the elevator key was. He became visibly frustrated when it became clear that no one at the restaurant knew where it was or how to access it. After nearly an hour trapped inside the elevator, we were finally freed. What happened next was just as disappointing. There wasn't a manager waiting for us. No one checked to see if we were okay. No one apologized. No one acknowledged what we had just gone through. We simply walked out after spending nearly an hour trapped in their elevator as though nothing had happened. A few days later, the owner left my girlfriend a voicemail. Instead of beginning with an apology or asking how we were doing, she said the elevator became stuck because we exceeded the weight limit and that the elevator was only intended for two people. That explanation raised more questions than it answered. There is no sign anywhere stating that the elevator is limited to two occupants. If that truly is the limit, that information should be clearly posted. It also made me wonder how guests using larger power wheelchairs or mobility scooters are expected to access the restaurant safely. What disappointed me most was that the voicemail felt more like an attempt to blame the customers than to acknowledge how poorly the situation had been handled. Whether the elevator malfunctioned because of weight or for some other reason, it doesn't change the fact that the staff didn't know where the elevator key was, there didn't appear to be an emergency plan, no one checked on us while we were trapped, and no one apologized after we were rescued. Mechanical failures happen, and I don't blame Loren simply because an elevator broke down. I do, however, hold them accountable for how they handled the situation. Customer service matters most when something goes wrong, and this experience showed a complete lack of preparation, communication, empathy, and accountability. It's especially unfortunate because we chose Loren to give our out-of-town friends a wonderful dining experience and spent a significant amount of money there. Instead, the lasting memory of the evening wasn't the outstanding food--it was spending nearly an hour trapped in an elevator, being ignored afterward, and then receiving a voicemail that felt more like an excuse than an apology. The food was exceptional, and the chefs deserve every bit of credit for that. But great food alone isn't enough. Hospitality is measured by how a business treats its guests when something goes wrong, and in our case, Loren fell far short. Based on this experience and the owner's response afterward, we won't be returning and unfortunately cannot recommend this restaurant. read more

We had dinner at Loren as part of the VIP package for the music festival, and it was one of the highlights of our weekend. Everything was exceptional from start to finish. We both ordered the beef short rib, along with the fougasse and Parmesan frites, and every bite was outstanding. We literally cleaned our plates! The chocolate espresso truffle was the perfect ending to the meal. Rich, decadent, and absolutely delicious. The martinis were the best we've had in a long time, perfectly balanced and expertly made as ordered. The real standout, though, was our server, Kristie. She was warm, attentive, fun, and made the entire experience even more enjoyable. Service like hers turns a great meal into a memorable one. Came back again and was just as good. 10/10. Everything about it was superb. Every dish I got was full of flavor. The ambience was quiet and romantic. The service was paced very well, they didn't come up too often but just enough that we felt well taken care of. Huge selection of cocktails and wines- and since I was pregnant I was especially pleased to see a ton of non alcoholic mocktails as well! The scallops aren't fishy at all, the best scallops me or my spouse has ever had. Their crème brûlée is excellent and the fact they have lavender whipped cream made it even better! I am not even a fan of lavender flavor but it wasn't overpowered at all and added a fun twist. And if you've read this far you've got to go yourself because it is the best place in Spokane for a nice date or an excuse to dress up. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a little bit now and I am glad we finally made it down! My sister and I went together for a much needed night out without husbands or kids and we thought this would be a great place to do it! The atmosphere: this place is located in the basement. The only way to get down there that we saw was the elevator. You walk out and behind these dark curtains is the restaurant. The decor is very hip and inviting. It's dark and intimate. They did a great job at making this the perfect date night. The atmosphere screams upscale (and the prices), but the guests there ranged from very casual to dressy, but not formal. So, if there is a dress code, it's not enforced. Service: We received service right away. When we got there it was only us and one other table, so the service was prompt. As the night went on, and the tables filled, that did shift a little. However, it wasn't terrible. Food: My sister and I both started with a salad. I got the Bistro and she got the Heirloom Tomato & Burrata. My salad had a great flavor, but I think it was a little on the salty side even with the candied nuts, and there was a little too much dressing. However, I did still enjoy it. My sister loved her salad and had no complaints. For our entrees we both did the Halibut. The halibut was herb crusted and while the fish was cooked perfectly, the crust was a bit too done on the bottom, which made it hard to cut. The flavor was really good, but my fish was a little too salty for me and the veggies had a smidge too much pepper. I would eat it again though. We got the beignets for dessert and they were so sad. It was like eating a ravioli covered in powdered sugar. They were flat and doughy. Not light, fluffy, and airy with a little crispy outside like a traditional beignet. We couldn't eat them. The berries they served them with didn't help the situation either. It was just a big fail. All in all it was a fun experience with decent food! Attended Loren after reading about their opening. The bistro is located a short stroll from the Spokane Arena and the Civic Theater.. Reservations are a must. The bistro is underground and can be reached using the ground floor elevator. The ambiance is upscale and business casual dress is required. I started with a glass of pinot noir and the French onion soup, which was delicious. The main course was seared scallops. The lovely presentation of the dish was matched by it's subtle flavor. I enjoyed the main course with a glass of champagne. The dessert course was the chocolate ice cream and cappuccino. The service was friendly and attentive. The whole experience was deeply satisfying. Service was very good and our waiter was super nice. We had reservations at 5pm on a week day so it wasn't super busy. It was hard to find once I parked and there wasn't any signs, so I had to walk around the whole building before finding the door that would lead me downstairs to Loren. Atmosphere is good. Finding this place is a bit of a challenge, but so worth the effort. The atmosphere of Lorèn is fantastic, the food and service (thank you Dimitri) are top notch. We started with the House Fougasse with carmelized garlic and honey Brie butter. Next we shared the Bread & Burratta, both delicious. For entrees we tried the Pasta Ala Champignon and Jarret d'agneau. The pastas was done perfect al dente, and the sauce was delicious. The braised lamb shank was fall off the bone tender. We showed up for our reservation on time, and the room wasn't ready. They kept us waiting for an hour and fifteen minutes in the lobby. They brought us drinks and said the drinks and our appetizers would be on the house to apologize for the wait. Eventually, they seated us in the main dining area with two tables pushed together -- definitely not the special atmosphere we had planned. They again apologized and said desert would be on the house. At the end of the night, they brought the bill and literally nothing was comp'd. Not the drinks, not the appetizers, not the dessert. Nothing. It was definitely not the type of service I would expect for a place at this price point. Unfortunately, it's too expensive for me to want to want to give it a second chance and risk this type of experience again. Sadly, don't recommend. read more

Really cool space and decor. Not really anywhere else like it in Spokane. The food was pretty good too-- we particularly the soup du jour and beet salad, and the duck (a special that night) was great. I will say my fiancée's lamb shank could've had a little more flavor. The bete noire dessert was great although, suspiciously, frozen. Service was good but it was hard for us to hear each other because the acoustics are poor and the tables close together. Plus they have music going at volume. It actually all adds to the ambiance but don't expect to be having intimate conversations. There is very little parking which is not handicap accessible. The exterior staircase access is the only way in for patrons. The location was difficult to find within the building. The ambiance was classy and the service was okay. Despite reserving a 4:30 dinner, they were out of popular dishes on an already limited menu. Had dinner here for my birthday with my partner, we both had fancy cocktail which was good, ordered calamari which was nothing to brag about being as they were just the inexpensive, ( but expensive) little circles fried with some sauce. Our next course was the filet mignon, it was market price which was $69! Our waitress said "that is going for 69$ how would you like it cook", without even giving us a second to maybe change our minds if we wanted too. My partner ordered his med rare and feels like he was picking worms out of it. I had mine med, it was cook nicely with no worms or whatever it was he was pulling from his steak. The problem both of us had was it was laden with way too much sauce and creamy stuff! A good steak doesn't really need anything. And for 69$ I expect that to be the best piece of meat I've ever had,.... It wasn't! And that's all that was on the plate, no veggies, nothing, just a rolled up cheese blob on top. We dont mind spending high dollar but the food but it better be quality! We will not be back. The atmosphere is nice but not worth the $300 we dropped. Disappointed as I've heard nothing but good things about Loren's, I'm beginning to think everyone's taste buds are perverted!!! I'm giving this 2 stars only based on service and ambience. The old historic building the restaurant is in is beautiful, and Loren is located in the basement where they created a very intimate feeling starting with the velvet curtains you pass through to get into the restaurant. The food was delicious. The four of us all had different dishes, and everyone was happy with what they got. My favorite was the edamame fettuccine. My husband had the halibut and it was cooked perfectly. For sides we ordered the garlic bread that had lemon zest in the butter spread along with roasted garlic, and the frites that were seasoned well along with a balsamic dip.
