Lorenzo & Sons are winning based on size alone, but quantity will never win over quality for me; luckily, the taste holds its own compared to the pizza greats. What can I say? This pizza was delicious! I never had the old one before the fire, but I imagine it was just as tasty. There was only one guy working but he got us our slices quickly, and I liked the condiment station inside. The hot sauce is worth adding! Like that soup episode of Seinfeld, but these people are nice. It's exactly what it needs to be. Nothing extravagant. Pizza boxes everywhere. The most colorful people watching you'll get. Food: The slice is giant. The cheese is chewy and melted and likely to require angioplasty after. The crust holds up well. The sauce is sweet, but good. But here's the rating gauge...when, exactly, are you eating this? After a night at Fat Tuesdays? A show at the TLA? Shots at Tattooed Moms? This slice will absolutely be the savior you need. After eating some terrible slices, I was focused on more high-end pizza around the city lately. But one weekend we decided to find an "old fashioned" slice like I remember eating growing up. There was something sweet about it--not the sauce, but perhaps the crust? I think I've been eating wild fermented and other fancy crusts lately and am not used to sweetness in my pizza. I'm more generous lately with my ratings, but in normal times I might have only given 3 stars. There are more sought after restaurants that serve pizza that are hard to nail down a reservation and come in at a higher price point (artisan toppings etc.) but I must say if you want a banging pizza how convenient is it to have one right in the Philadelphia Live casino. I have not been to Lorenzo's in 25 years, when I used to travel to Phiily regularly. It was my favorite Phiily pizzeria. Last week I made a return visit with a group of friends. They were in a new location (I gather as the result of a fire) but the familiar sign was still there. The pizza, on the other hand, has been taking steroids. It is the biggest pie I've ever seen and the box was so large it almost didn't fit through the door and it drooped in the middle. There is no longer any seating or even counter space so you have to take out. Fortunately, a bar across the street let us eat there (we got drinks). Long story short, the pizza is still delicious and has a well balanced flavor, but it's way too big. It's a cartoon pizza. Helpful and nice staff person on duty. read more

This is a spot that is known in Philadelphia. If you want a big slice you come here for a fair price and late night vibes. We ordered a 48inch pizza with pepperoni. My only complaint is if you want toppings you have to order a whole pizza. The sauce is top tier and makes the pizza taste like you're in Italy. Sure, 4$ a slice might seem like a lot, but considering that a lot of places change $3 nowadays for a slice much smaller and less appetizing, I could easily justify my purchase. The box cost should be factored into the price though. The quality of the pizza was really the best things about it, not just the size. Good ratio of sauce to gooey cheese, crust not too thick or thin, and they have toppings ready to add on your way out. So we tried again and it still was terrible again. Now today we went for the first time in 6 months thinking maybe they changed it back, but nope. Are you sure this is Philly!? I felt like I was instantly back in downtown Brooklyn on Jay St grabbing a $1 slice. The crust was so crispy and doughy. The cheese was melted just right and the spices were on point. The service was great, no frills, just tell them your order and wait a few minutes. Huge pizza slices for not much money, does it get any better? Their slices are 14", so you probably don't need more than one. You order at the counter and then wait for your pizza to be ready. Outside, this looks like a plain old pizza shop. You only need to be in Philly for a short time before you come to realize that pizza/hoagie/cheesesteak shops are common in almost every Philly neighborhood. However, this pizza shop has reached almost cult status. They're known for their giant slices of plain cheese pizza. They are also the other half of the infamous "pizza taco" (seriously look it up if you haven't heard of it). I can't say I've tried a pizza taco but if it's late at night and you're starving after your bar crawl... it might just be what you're looking for. The quality of the pizza itself is decent and the amount you get for the price is enough to stave off my hunger. I'm usually having fun with a group of friends whenever I decide to grab food from here and that has given me a lot of fond memories from this place.
