ok so im not a super huge bagel person BUT i do adore my cream cheese...bagels are the delivery object for the cream cheese. that is until i has los bagels. roadtipping back home after new years in the little hippie town of arcata and stopped in here for road fuel. it was 11 am ish on a saturday. the tables outside were full of happy slightly hungover people of all ages chatting and enjoying their treats and coffee. the music was excellent..break on through is an excellent get that energy for the drive going song...the staff was amazing. new to the system of ordering and all that jazz...we were the total slow noob tourists. we ordered a ton of stuff, two bagels with creamcheese, three different muffins and two coffess..for the two of us. everything was amazing..the cream cheese on the bagel was enough for three or four bagels, the muffins rocked, the coffee warmed us up and woke up our brains. i will go back again and again and again. i just wish it was not so far. read more

Good bagels, but this place is a huge ripoff. The bagels are a standard price, but are half of the size of normal bagels. The price also dramatically increases as you put toppings on your bagel. Even a bagel with cream cheese only will end up costing you nearly three dollars. Los Bagels has a monopoly on the bagel industry in Humboldt (a bagelopoly!), so sadly, there is no other place to turn to for a decent bagel. read more

Los Bagels was another hot spot for breakfast when I lived in Arcata. I loved the mixing of the Jewish and Mexican cultures with the bagels and mexican hot chocolate. My favorite... Veggie Delite on Sesame Bagel w/ Larrapin sauce. I have noticed that the bagels have gotten smaller over the years though so that's a bummer. Bring back the big bagel!! read more

I've always loved los bagels but since I stopped eating most dairy products, their are hardly any spreads I can eat! The guacamole is okay but kind of over powering. Hummus is alright but I don't really like it on bagels. I wish you guys just did avocado as a topping on bagels, I think it would be really popular and avocado toast is a hit in most cities but no where in Humboldt offers that. How much?! For a F-ing bagel- are you having fun with me? They are good bagels to be sure, but c'mon. I would suggest getting any of the other specialty items because you will at least be paying for something exotic. The best bagel is the Granpa Gorms- Locs and Capers with Larrupins sauce. It will run you about 10 greenbacks, so don't come here when you are hungry. Other than that the slugs are a decent choice, it's an everything bagel that is un-shaped like a log. BTW don't think about where they get the slug slime- it's probably not kosher. But don't get suckered by the bagel with toppings- you'll be sorry you ever wanted anything on it when you pay for it. Do- however- take your Parentals here if you live off of their money while going to school. You can show them the reason you need so much freakin' money to live here. Best. Bagels. Ever. There are moments when I actually consider driving the 5 hours up to Humboldt just so I can have a fresh slug with cream cheese, that's how good they are. Of the many delicious hometown options, this is the only stop I make without fail (and get a few bagels to take with me when it's time to leave.) Chango bars and berry pastries are amazing if you want a treat. I read some pretty negative reviews in terms of customer service, so wanted to share this story: My mom was on her way to visit me for the first time since I moved away to go to college and she stopped at Los to pick up some bagels to bring to me- she happened to mention to the person bagging the bagels that they were my only request when she asked if I needed anything from home. Well, the bagger happened to be the owner and he gave her a Los Bagels travel mug to give to me along with his thanks. That was a LONG time ago, but I still remember that kindness (still have the mug too) and it's just one more reason why I always come back! read more

This place is actually very good. If you're in the area and are looking for some good food give this place a try. All of their food is always somehow extremely hot and it really keeps it warm and fresh for long periods of time. There is only one tiny complaint that I have about this place and it's that inside of the shop it's super hot. I don't know if it has to do with keeping the food hot but I would recommend eating outside. My personal favorite item on the menu is the Bacon Scrambagel. As a Humboldt County native, it's just wrong to go too long without a bagel from the Los. If you are new to the area try it out, it's got the best bagels around. The sandwiches are great. One of the things I miss about Arcata. There are some things I have to stock up on when I go back there & this is top of the list. When my boyfriends parents know we're coming, they get us Los Bagels for the morning. They're tiny little things, but they are deeeeelicious. If you get them at the bakery (as opposed to the grocery stores in the area), you can get all kinds of toppings. My favorite is the cream cheese, carrot & olive, which sounds completely disgusting to me (especially since I HATE cream cheese), but it is wonderful. I also advocate getting something with Larupin Sauce (another only-in Humboldt treat). The other baked goods are also yummy - cookies, muffins, etc. The staff is always nice to me. read more

Came back to Arcata to visit after having been away for several years. I went to HSU (class of '01) and used to have a Los Bagel at least a couple of times a week. They haven't changed one bit! SO yum! Gotta love the slugs. :) I need to have Los Bagels shipped down to the bay area. read more

I have family in Arcata and each time I visit Los Bagels is on my "Must do while in town" list. There are so many wonderful options, but for me it's a cinnamon raisin bagel smothered with cream cheese and fresh local blackberry jam....Mmmm Mmmmm Mmmmmm! Plus a jar of Larapins mustard sauce to take back to the bay with me. I've never found another bagel shop that comes even close to the yumminess of Los Bagels. The bagels are normal size and they don't skimp on the toppings at all. Most other places give you a gigantic bagel that you really shouldn't finish because of the carb overload with a tiny plastic cup of god knows how old cream cheese. I have never had a bad experience with Los bagels. My order did get messed up once, I came in with a large group of friends and we were all paying together. Originally I had asked for a slug with guacamole and cream cheese, then said actually I don't want guacamole, then said wait yes I do. We were all paying together so I didn't notice that she charged me for just the bagel and cream cheese. Then when my order was done and there was no guacamole she put it on and didn't charge me. Yes they are more expensive than places in bigger cities but there is a place on every corner in big cities. Los bagels is the only bagel place here and I am 100% ok with that. I'm fine with paying 9 bucks for a bagel with guac and a big bottle of water because it's delicious. read more

This place has a great variety of bagel toppings and good quality bagels. My son had a basic bagel with cream cheese and I had one with goat cheese. Best product out of Humboldt. Some would argue with me that it is the 2nd best export. The cream cheese is that crumbly kind, the only type of cream cheese that should ever be used. The "slugs", which are essentially everything bagels in the shape of a slug rather than a round, with fresh real cc and the local Larrapin mustard sauce is a local favorite that everyone from or living in Arcata knows about. I am telling you Yelpers, this has to be on your list if you ever visit the great town of Arcata. Oh and PS. they have good, strong, flavorful coffee. Kick ass. read more

My second day after moving to Arcata, I wandered in here and was hooked. GREAT coffee from Santa Cruz Company, and as a point of reference, this was my first ever experience with bagels from a small shop and I've been spoiled ever since. The condiment choices are great, as is most of the help, and purchase of the Los Bagels book is highly recommended, especially for the African Peanut soup, for those cold days when you need to be warmed from the inside out. Speaking of warming feelings inside, a thing to love is Los Bagels community involvement. It kind of reminds me of Seattle's Dick's Drive Ins in this respect. One reviewer says the bagels are "small and hard". Well, compared to Safeway & Costco, they are. Another calls it "faux-Mexican". Try Mexican-Jewish, dude A reviewer from McKinleyville(aka Tulsa Sur La Mer) says she's from "The East Coast, home of coffee and bagles". and slags the coffee, which is an excellent dark roast. Since she's from back there, she probably loves coffee from Chock Full O Schmucks and Dunkin Donuts. If she's an expert, why does she misspell bagels? As far as another reviewer calling Los B "mediocre" and "expensive", and saying the bagels are "hockey pucks" the next day, that's total BS. You store the bagels overnight in a closed paper bag(rather than his macrame shoulder bag), give 'em a heat, & they're great, and his comment about "expensive"?? He probably can't afford it since panhandling on the Plaza was slow. My faves? Slugs are always cool, but AFA bagels are concerned, when I lived here, I was hooked on sesame with butter or CC and Marionberry jam or Japapeno jelly; garlic or onion with practically anything(but especially lox & Laruppin Mustard Dill Sauce or Pesto spread with tomato); and plain, sesame, or jalapeno with peanut butter & the jalapeno jelly. I was also prone to bringing some Cajun Power Garlic Sauce from home, just to give add some zet to life, and a plain or sesame with plain creme cheese and Heaven On Earth Apple Butter from Oregon is FAB!! My husband & I came in because Los Bagels is on the top 5 things to do in Arcata list. We are from Chico. I wouldn't call it an "artsy" environment as some of the reviews do. The food is good, if not daunting to order. I ordered the Cucumbin on a garlic bagel -cream cheese, cucumbers, larrupin(mustard type sauce) & slug slime(a mixture of poppy, sesame and other type seeds). I liked it a lot but wasn't sure what I was ordering at the time. My husband ordered the Seafood Delilah on a jalapeño bagel - cream cheese, lox, albacore & salmon. He enjoyed his as well but agreed with me that he wasn't really sure what to expect just from the menu. We both found our bagels quite filling. My date loved his lox, olives, and cream cheese on a sesame bagel, while I ordered a simple toasted raisin wheat bagel with cream cheese - so flavorful and subtly sweet. Friendly staff, welcoming environment, and good food! There are two locations, which I have tried both. This locations has a really cool vibe with all its windows--feels very open. The parking is small and quirky; it looks to wrap around the location and be a 1 direction lot, however this is not the case. Be ready to maneuver! I have been to Los Bagels quite a few times and have yet to have a bad experience. There are lots of options, both simple and complex. The Salmon cream cheese bagel is awesome! I have only had the black coffee, which was great; have yet to try anything special with the espresso drinks. read more

The bagels themselves are sooooo good though, so I usually make them at home so I can eat them often without going broke.
