AMAZING bagels! They put so much cream cheese on, its refreshing! I always only get it on one side and its plenty. Plus its 50 cents cheaper. They have an amazing signature SLUG SLIME, which is definitely not slimey or sluggy. It's a must try. They also have a wide variety of choices, even salmon! read more

I love Los Bagels. Currently I live in the Bay Area, which is inundated with the popular chain "Noah's Bagels", and every time I eat there I think: "still not as good as Los Bagels". Los Bagels doesn't really have the sweet flavors: no blueberry or pumpkin shmears, but it has much more interesting things. Cream cheese and guacamole, Scrambagels (scrambled eggs, bacon, etc), smoked albacore and salmon, and so on. They also have some really good bakery items and great coffee. The ambience is comfortable and attractive, and has an interesting theme of "Jewish-Mexican" going for it. Can't say I've seen that anywhere else. Definitely come here sometime for breakfast! read more

Los Bagels should be called Bland Bagels.......I just don't get what the big deal is about the bagels here? I think that there is a population of people here that just aren't aware of how a great bagel should taste! We are a trapped audience here behind the Redwood Curtain and people have settled for mediocrity.. The whole Dia de los Muertos thing is lame and it sucks that it is capitalized upon by greedy business people up here in the states. I know my opinion is not popular but I really miss good bagels that aren't as hard as a hockey puck. The staff is always cool but for how overpriced everything is, I bet they don't get paid much. Great bagel place. It hasn't changed in the 25 years I've known it - and that's good. The bagels are fresh, as well as great toppings. The service is fast and the coffee and other drinks are always good. Eat there and enjoy the mural that faces you. If you park in the lot, realize you may need to back out of your space onto the street. This is not a big deal - everyone does it - but it's new to everyone at least once. This is a must go to place when visiting Arcata. Enjoy any of the bagels, Knish, or pastry. My favorite is the "slug" - it's an everything bagel, but in a straight line. Good stuff. read more

los bagels is good but i really dont see why so many people are ga-ga about it. i mean they are just bagels... the specialty bagels are wayyyyy expensive but i have to admit they are very yummy. the employees are not very friendly and almost hostile which i dont understand because i could go spend my money elsewhere and i am doing them a favor by stopping in for a damn 7 dollar bagel sandwich. if you dont want to spend 10-20 bucks on some bagels and coffee i dont recommend this place. maybe just once to test the waters. read more

While the price is alright, I have to say I've been very disappointed in the customer service the last 2 times I've been in. The girls behind the counter have been more interested in talking than helping customers, but the last time I went was even more frustrating. I was in a rush and called ahead, I got there to get my bagel and it hadn't even been started yet...(10mins later). While watching my bagel be made, I noticed another staff member making bagels and using the spatula to wipe excess cream cheese, jelly etc off her hands and then make people's bagels...that's disgusting. By the time my bagel was finally done, I stood around for 5 more minutes waiting to pay. They really need to work on their customer service and health code standards. read more

i returned to humboldt county in may of this year. as always, stopped by to order a multi-grain bagel, topped with cream cheese, tomato, and lox with a fine bold cup of locally farmed coffee to wash every single bite down in total bliss. the lox is wild and so fresh and piled atop the bagel i had to lean toward my tray for every bite as i didn't want any of it to fall on the table or floor. on another day i stopped at los bagels in eureka for the first time. it's equally good as well. if you are a true, they have a "los bagels hall of fame" rack on the wall which consists of photos people have taken while travelling around the world sportin' a los bagels t-shirt. great idea! read more

They are overpriced and one of the owners was very unfriendly. I have had several of their cookies/pastries. Everything tastes the same. They use the same flour mix for all of their baked goods. They do not have any healthy items as well. read more

Why is this place trendy? I can only guess because it's expensive. Very overpriced, and very mediocre. Sure it's ok, but you cant really screw up bread items too much, but they've done nothing to make it above average. Skip the bagels and get some brio bread, or something rustic from the co-op. One tip- don't let the bagels sit overnight, they get like hockey pucks in no time flat. I would give it 2 stars, but the slugs are pretty good and some of the items at least unique if nothing else. read more

Service has really taken a dive in this store and the one in Eureka. It is a real shame because I used to be able to count on friendly fast service. I was in the Arcata yesterday for the Grandpa Goren - a bagel with cream cheese, lox, red onion, and capers. After a lengthy wait, they put it on the counter without calling out name or called out the order wrong, anyway, it had very little fish on it. I took it back. They had to go to the back room to get more fish which was probably why they put so little on in the first place. It also had four, count them, four capers on it. I went back to the counter and got some more. I felt like I should have just made it myself which is what I will be doing in the future :-) If you like "funky vibe" (watching the counter staff stand around talking to each other and ignoring you because they can't hear you over their radio) then this is the place to go - the once great Los Bagels. read more

I lived in NYC for many years, so my standards for bagels is very high. Sadly Los Bagels bagels are puny, hard, pale, and lack flavor. In addition, I went to the Arcata branch for the first time and was very disappointed in the service. One person making the orders so my simple sesame bagel with cream cheese took 10 minutes from order to service. I could walk in a store, buy a bagel, and cook it at home quicker. I think it's all about the atmosphere and if you actually care about a good taste, better to buy the bagels at Safeway, or Winco and a pack of cream cheese, do it at home. Or pack some as a picnic and sit in the park. read more

After moving to Humboldt county a little over a year ago, Los Bagels was one of my first opportunities to not only explore the culture, but to gain my first employment experience in the area. I've learned a lot about how deep the connection is between local businesses and the local community, and Los Bagels puts a lot of effort and time into the community. It may just be a restaurant to some, but to others its a life line and a somber reminder that there are companies that truly invest in its employees. Los Bagels has 'high' prices because it provides health and dental care for its employees and families, which working in the restaurant industry is almost unheard of. Every single month it donates large amounts of food products to community events such as high school graduations, HSU's college campus, Arts Alive, Women's Marches, Redwood Community Action Agency and community sponsored marathons just to name a few. Every single unsold food item, save for those prohibited by food safety regulations, at the end of the day is donated to local food banks in the Eureka store while at the Arcata store the day-old foods are donated to local farms for feeding to livestock. Both stores currently have a goal of zero-waste and my boss personally digs through the garbage cans provided for customers, clearly labeled on what type of trash should go where mind you, every single morning in order to reach this goal. I've had my bosses personally request higher wages and sufficient hours for myself and others in order to live outside of the poverty range and to have a solid support line in achieving financial independence. I've known of people who had to leave for a period of time due to medical issues and were guaranteed a job and support upon their return. The restaurant life is such a fickle industry and never have I worked in a place that has provided so much support and investment in their employees. They hire people with little to no experience and provide opportunities to learn a skill that they can keep the rest of their lives. These are real people with real lives, often younger and just starting out in the 'real world', so the experience is not going to be that of a five star nationally reviewed restaurant that focuses solely on customer service and speed of service. I've had people scream in my face over having to repeat their order once more at the register and I personally believe that there are other things in the community to be focused on rather than speaking an order twice. If you're frustrated over the 'attitude' of the employees or having to repeat yourself, keep in mind that Los Bagels is a lot more than just a bagel store. If you truly want to support a business that invests in the community and its employees then go there. If you want your ass kissed by service employees and thats all, then by all means take your business elsewhere. read more

I absolutely love Los bagels..a must when you are in Arcata/Eureka. My ONLY complaint is that after you tell an employee your order you stand in line for a couple minutes and then have to repeat your order at the register to get rung up. When you only have one bagel it's not a huge deal but add a hangover and repeating three bagels back to the guy and it gets pretty annoying. I don't see why they can't simply write down the orders and then pass them to the register, it would save employees time and customers would be much happier (at least I would)! Terrible customer service and chaotic kitchen. My family and I met some friends here on a Saturday. It's always packed on the weekend, so we knew we were in for a wait. Unfortunately, our wait was indefinite. When we finally realized or order had been skipped or forgotten, the cashier was less than helpful. Since I saw her write down our order, I asked her to find it to produce our order. She said she "gave it to someone else," and they threw it away already. After another ten minutes and our friends had finished their bagels, we got our order. Not worth the headache. read more
