Their customer service is horrible. I've only been here 2 times and I will never be back. I had a take out order to pick up, I was handed the order, left out to my vehicle. And the tie to the bag came undone and the order fell to the ground. I walked back inside and explained that the knot on the bag was loose and came undone and they said, "sorry that's not our fault." I explained to them again the tie to the bag was loose how is that my fault? And she said I should have carried the bag from the bottom. Someone else's take out order was brought to the counter and whoever I spoke to was explaining to them what i had just experienced and their employee then saw that knot was loose and double knotted the bag securing it more tightly. I pointed that out and they still said they were not at fault and would not replace the meals that had been paid for. HORRIBLE customer service. read more

Prices are outrageous!! $18.99 for a single-persons Fajita Plate, and the quality of the food is dull to the tatse making the meal only fair to less than average. The atmosphere was that of a empty warehouse, with much of the inner Mexican theme decor that once decorated the place; of framed photos, traditional metal statues, and such have been removed. Lighting too is darker that ever, we needed to use our cell phone flashlights to read the limitation of variety in the menu's. The signal waitress in the place, at 5PM on a Thursday, messed up twice on two of our eight orders. The tea was watered down...and the plates were without garnishes, limited spices, oily rice and refried beans tasting heavily of lard. For four children, four adults we paid just over $94.00 Far too much for one very, very bad meal. We will NOT ever return here. read more

My wife and I come here regularly and dad cell for breakfast on memorial day. It was obvious they were understaffed so we were patient waiting for food and drinks. I intended on tipping the waitress a lot because she was definitely working hard. However, we received our bill of $49 and change. When I went up to pay for it a dif lady swiped my credit card and the receipt she handed me to sign was for $58 and change. She disappeared so I did go ahead and tip the waitress extra but we were charged n$9 over and it seems like it had to have been intentional and I didn't want to wait 10 minutes for someone else to come back to address it so I guess that's my fault. Our family was mixed on the food so let me start with the 5 star dinner - the BEST carne guisada I have ever had! No gristle on the meat and a serving big enough for 2! Next, my son had the puffy tacos. He said they were a bit greasy but I think that's part of the definition Last, my husband didnt like his mini tacos. Great Mexican food, they give you plenty to eat and it's very delicious ! This place used to be a fresh meat, cheese and BBQ hotspot many years ago. It still belongs to my family as does the Taxidermy behind it. They have music to listen to musicians, a huge liquor bar and it's very family friendly. I used to work here many years ago when my aunt and uncle first built it. The Chili Rellenos and Enchiladas are my favorite and they come in a variety of styles and sauces. I was in the drive thru getting my order and didn't leave a tip since I clearly am not eating in the restaurant and they decided to tip themselves which is stealing of others money. I really try not to give bad reviews. This time I just can't help myself. I am the type that will patiently wait and give the benefit of the doubt because we are all under stress. My son and I ordered fajitas for two and two drinks. The food wasn't fantastic but it wasn't horrible. The service was terrible. Our waiter consistently went back and forth right next to us as we tried to get his attention but he didn't even notice us as he was consistently helping one couple. Like he could only manage the one table. After half an our i finally asked an employee busing tables to please call our waiter over. He asked us what we needed and I told hom a sprite for my son. Instead of the waiter he brought over the Sprite for us. The waiter never showed up again until he brought the check and he told me he would take care of it. We waited for 15 minutes for him to pick up my credit card before my son asked if he could just sit in the car. I sat there by myself for another 15 minutes before I decided to finally just go to the cash register myself. As the girl at the cash register was ringing me up the waiter came by annoyed and told her to move over so that he could use it. I wish I had stayed home and made a sandwich. The margaritas are mass-mixed and taste like limeade. Mine arrived with one of those test tube shooters floating in it...holding the drink's only tequila, which tasted like plastic-bottled. It was $6.50. Not loving the margarita, tried a "mexican martini" next. I expected something rivaling Chuy's & Trudy's and what I got was..... purplish? and fruity. and just.....off-tasting. How was it like a martini? I don't know... maybe the glass they served it in was supposed to make it a martini? It bordered on terrible. Like, I ALMOST didn't drink it. Yeah, that bad. I tried the queso with beef in it - it was cheesy and good enough for me to keep at it, but I really wanted more pica. The gordita had a nice, thick masa and the picadillo was the real stuff with papas. It was good enough, but still not as good as the ones you usedta could get at NIOSA. I still like this place well enough overall. I think the food's pretty good, but I might stick with what excites me from now on: the breakfasts, the brisket tacos (a la mexicana, on corn, of course), and the frosty mexican beers (usually Bohemia for this girl). read more

I went here with a friend, on her recommendation, on a weeknight. To be honest, I'd kind of avoided this place because of the taxidermy place that sits behind it in the same parking lot. Sorry, but it was just kind of creepy. However, my friend said they had good food, so I gave it a shot. Although the food was pretty good, it took 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us and take a drink order. Getting the drinks took another 10-15 minutes, and although we were ready to order (because we'd been waiting so long for our drinks) when he finally did bring them, the waiter deposited the drinks and went to take the order from the table next to us - who had been seated all of 30 seconds. It was insulting. FINALLY, we got to order, and the food was out really fast. However, the waiter took off so fast that I didn't get to ask him for silverware. After another 5 minutes, I had to flag down another server and ask for some silverware so I could eat my food. They never came back to our table, so of course, we got no drink refills and had to flag down yet another person to get our check. I must tell you that the place was not even half full, and there were plenty of staff. They just didn't give a crap that we were there. If I were rating this place solely on their Tex-Mex food, I'd give it 3 1/2 stars...but the service was so terrible that I just can't bring myself to go back - ever - much less give them a good rating. read more

I been here a few times for lunch and breakfast, and I really like it. You can't beat the prices and the food is great for that price. Their breakfast specials are $4.99; which included the normal border/american breakfast items. Lunch specials are $5.99 which include various enchilada, carne asada, and taco plates. Both breakfast and lunch specials come with drinks. For breakfast I suggest getting the chorizo and egg or the chilaquiles plate; both taste great and authentic. For lunch I suggest getting the enchiladas and carne asada plate. The enchiladas are good and cheesy, and go great with the carne asada gravy. The place is pretty decent looking and the staff is very attentive. As a matter of fact given the price of the food; you would think the place would be a rundown hole in wall establishment. So I give 5 stars to Los Generales. I will also place it on my Weekly gigs list, because I know I will hit it up at least 2 times a week being that it is near my work. read more

Good menudo and caldo de pollo but everything else we've tried has been disappointing. Guac has zero flavor--tastes like mashed up avocadoes with a little milk mixed in. Consistency is good but that's it. Chips are way too greasy. And I'm jumping on the cheese complaint bandwagon like many other reviewers. They don't use queso (fresco, panela, Cotija, etc.) They use Velveeta or a similar brand. I don't even like Velveeta in non-Mexican food. I sure as hell don't want it in quesadillas or as a taco garnish. If you come to this place, and your dish has cheese in it, expect it to be yellow and American. Their rice is okay. Their beans follow their guac's suit: flavorless and bland. This place is in San Antonio motherloving Texas. It boggles my mind that they can't even get the Tex-Mex staples right. We've been several times and the food is good. Service has been decent. I've tried the mini tacos, cheese enchiladas, beef fajitas, guacamole, queso flameado - - all delicious. The sides are also good. If a restaurant can't do rice/beans, I usually won't return. Their table salsa needs some work, but I usually ask for the green salsa and they bring it right away. We've also had breakfast there and enjoyed it, but will always go back to our "regular" place - Thousand Oaks Cafe. Now I have to admit something I learned from a Yelp review. I tried their margarita and it came with the little tube of liquor. I thought it was odd because I hadn't asked for an extra shot or top shelf. I smelled the liquor and it didn't smell great. Took a sip and it was an odd tequila so I chose not to add to my margarita. It wasn't great. I didn't realize that the margarita didn't have ANY alcohol and that you had to add what was in the tube! Crazy! You'd think the waiter would have said something. No wonder I thought it was weak. Music can tend to be loud on the weekend, but it is entertaining. We just ask not to be seated too close. We'll go back. You should try it. And don't forget to add the shot of liquor if you order the margarita. read more

I was really excited to come back to this place but in just a couple of minutes of walking in I regretted going! The host was busy, so she had us seat ourselves. We had no menus and no silverware... The bus boy brought out chips and salsa, they were just 'ok'. The waitress took our drink order but still no menus were brought! When the hostess sat a table next to us they had menus and silverware and even got their food order taken before us! We ordered and the food came in just a few minutes but the portions were disappointing! 6-8 months ago the plates were so big there were always left overs. This time the portions were tiny and almost left me and my family hungry! The music is so loud you can hardly hear yourself but it is a man playing his music and singing solo so I have to give him a lot of credit for his performance! Over all I have to give this place 3 stars for its cleanliness, great taste and entertainment but they really need to work on their customer service with more servers and a hostess that actually cares about customers and their portions. read more

Stopped in for breakfast and while we were seated pretty quickly, it was pretty jammed. Decided to stick with old skool and ordered migas. Simple plate with not alot of room for creativity. Served with refried beans and potatoes, the dish was fine enough. I wish the beans and potatoes had more flavor to them. I had to throw some pepper to take the bland away. Do not miss this place! It's a must if you are in the area. Most authentic and traditional Mexican fare in the city! Contrary to other reviews, the margaritas are awesome, not a pre-fab mix and with and EXTRA shot of alcohol included...get the Cadillac...it's the best! Saturday/Sunday Brunch is great...there is always live music. I usually have the chorizo and egg ranch...full of flavor and the chorizo is amazing. Nothing local was yet open so we Yelped to see walkathons would be open soon. Lós Generales was not only opening soon, it was only a few minutes away from the house, took phone orders, had carne guisada breakfast tacos, was reasonable on the prices AND had pretty solid reviews from fellow Yelpers. If you enjoy delicious and well priced Mexican food, then this is the place for you! Their menu is stocked with any possible Mexican food craving you can possibly have. And as I mentioned, at a great price! I've usually stopped in on the weekend and they do tend to be fairly busy. But despite, we have always been waited on and served in a timely manner. They also have live music on weekends which sometimes is a little too loud but nothing I can't tolerate. They're ready to accommodate large parties with their spacious dining room and huge patio. Chips and salsa are brought out to each table before the meal and their tortillas are pretty yummy! I try to get something different from their menu at each visit and have yet to be disappointed. Although the hubs had a barbacoa taco at one visit and mentioned it was descent but not great. Either way we will be back to try another menu item! read more

The prices are very reasonable...just don't ever order a Dos-arita there. At $14 for a Margarita with a Dos XX stuck in it, I'll order them separate next time and stick the beer in myself. I seriously thought it was an error and when I questioned our server, she confirmed the outrageous price of the world's most expensive Dos-arita. They have live music on the weekends which is typically something to enjoy IF the music wasn't blaring. It would be ok if it was a bar or night club but it's a restaurant. If they'd turn the sound down several notches, it'd be perfect! So, just improve on the wait staff and work on the sound and you'll definitely get my 5 star rating. Oh...and bring down the price of your Dos-arita. Why anybody would charge about $5 more for one drink than it would cost if you ordered it separately is beyond me. read more
