Went to OC Smiles on Friday 3/13/26 for a loose implant because my dentist is closed on Fridays…read more Helena was great and the only good thing i will have to say about my experience. I didn't need a diagnosis, since I told the dentist that my implant was loose. He decided to take a ct scan, charge me for it and charge me for his false "diagnosis." $290 later.. he told me I need a New crown and wanted me to pay $2900 to return for 2 more visits to "fix" it. I Declined his outrageous treatment plan, knowing my implant was just loose. I waited until Monday with no problems and went to my dentist Dr. John Vartanian (Newport Beach) who did the implant for me. He tightened the screw and I was out of there in 10 minutes for free. I believe SoCal Smiles owes me $290 back for their unnecessary scan and incorrect diagnosis. They were trying to sell me something I didn't need and I'm quite upset about how this was handled when I brought it to their attention. I would go elsewhere and not trust this place with your time or money.

I went in for X-rays and a consultation for the filling. As I was checking out, the receptionist pushed me to get a full mouth X-ray just because my insurance would cover it, which wasn't anything I needed. It felt like they were only trying to bill my insurance. The numbing shot was painful and the procedure was rough. I left with scratches and pain in my gums despite only having one cavity filled. The filling came out to $180 with my insurance, which isn't bad, but I'll need to go to another office to have the whole procedure reevaluated and likely redone.

However, the team at Irvine Modern Dentistry is one of the first to not make me dread dental check-ups and cleanings. Everyone is so friendly, knowledgeable, and takes my concerns into consideration. My hygienist, Ken, is gentle yet precise when it comes to my cleanings and always checks on me to make sure I'm doing okay. I also appreciate hearing about the latest technologies that the clinic is implementing. It is clear that they deeply care about the dental health of their patients and they make a point to recommend treatments that are best suited for me, rather than pressure me into buying services/products that are considerably out of my budget. I was able to make an appointment with Dr. Yu a few days later he took the time out of his busy schedule to survey the tooth and told me that it was a concussion and to let it heal. I came back a couple weeks later and got some x-rays and thankfully it healed about a month later. I'd appreciate his care and great bedside manner, even my anxiety. I recently came back for a check up and cleaning and I have to admit I got the best cleaning from Cindy. She started with asking me about any concerns I had and I mentioned enamel erosion. Well what I thought was enamel erosion was a lot of tartar on the surface of my teeth and she was able to really scale through all my tartar as well as clean the stains on the bottom of my teeth and make my teeth polished, clean and shiny like a new set of teeth! Also love the front desk staff! They are always so kind and organized. I actually was able to come in earlier due to a cancellation because they had made a note of it late last year!

His staff is very professional and wonderful. I had the honor of having the doctor clean my teeth yesterday. As he worked, he told me what he was doing and how did my teeth and gums look.. I really believe that dental health is so important to overall health and living a long and healthy life. I insist on cleaning every four months. My gums are so important to me and my health. I had to wait six to eight months to get in to see Dr. Yu, but it was worth it. My past dentists tried to upsell me or tell me I needed unnecessary work, but that will not happen here. They were justifying the claim that they look out 5 to 10 years out, also saying they can't do a full cleaning since it will impact the quality of the future specialized cleaning and after they report to insurance I would be locked out and not able to be covered for it in the future if I did not do it today it would be more expensive later over $2k. So of course cleaning was really rushed. I went to my old dentist a month after and they said it looked like my teeth were not cleaned or polished since they last saw me. I sent the X rays/imaging from the visit to a dentist friend and they said it was a very extreme solution for something that can be managed with personal routine changes. They are entitled to their opinion and how they operate as a business nothing against them. This is a heads up if you decide to go in.
