First time eating at this location, I have eaten at the Scottsdale location previously. We went here for a birthday celebration so there were eight of us. They put us in a storage that was all ours, it was kind of nice. The place is very large and they have a great upstairs area that can be used to host large parties. I ordered the Puerco Carnitas based on the server's recommendation. It did not disappoint, it was so flavorful I could hardly stop eating it even when I was full. Would definitely go back and seriously consider it for our next big celebration. read more

Been here before it became Los Sombreros, and enjoyed the meal. Because of fabulous Yelp reviews, decided to try again. Service by Dustin, was excellent! Went over the top to please us. Wife had shrimp tacos, and enjoyed them. She especially liked the creamy refried beans, and thin, warm and crispy chips, with a tasty homemade salsa. I had the Chile relleno, rice and beans. Came with nice flour tortillas. Not my favorite relleno. Chile was not cooked through. It was served over a tomato and onion light sauce which just made it soggy. Beans, rice and tortillas were pretty good. Ordered a fig and panella salad, nice fresh and tasty. Side note...pesky flies annoyed us through the meal! We visited this place today in serious need of traditional Mexican food and we loved it. First of, the decorations were really nice. Our server, Eric, was so friendly and it showed that he loved doing his job. He recommended us the Queso Fundido which we loved. Our entrees were also really good although the carnitas were I think superior to the chicken enchiladas. My husband got a jalapeño margarita which was amazing!! But be careful because it was really hot. We also got churros in the end and they were the best of all!! They had cajeta filling and were so fresh! Definitely don't skip on churros! We're so glad we came here, so we can never return. Good: black beans, and salsa. That's it! Not good: Service was very slow. We were there at lunch time and there was one other group, maybe a 6top. Only one server so I don't think they are doing too good. Our poor server couldn't keep up. We waited 30 mins for one enchilada and one burro. The chicken in the enchilada and pollo fundido was like jerky, Obviously from the night before. The pollo fundido and enchilada were cold. Also, I think they used the craft sandwich cheese squares and laid them on top of burrito and enchilada. The cheese was not melted and the squares apparent. We sat there for 10 mins waiting for our check until we decided to get up and walk to the front. So again, we're glad we went there, so we will never have the urge to return. read more

The food was actually very good. I was surprised. This is a great place if you don't mind it being setup like a fast food place. You order at the front and go sit down. It was date night and Los Somberros was the place we picked to go try, so off we went. I am a big fan of mole, so after checking out the menu I knew I wanted to try the Mole Poblano, it was a chicken breast smothered (and I mean smothered) in mole topped with sesame seeds and red onion. This was just what I was craving. The mole was finger licking good, if I could have licked the bowl clean, I would have. This also came with a side of rice and beans. So good! Los Sombreros is one of my favorite restaurants, but the Scottsdale location is kind of far for me. Now there's a Mesa location really close to me--yeah! I got a chili rellenos and my hubby got a the Pechunga Rellena. We also got nachos & a quesadilla for the kids. The food was great, as always. I love Los Sombreros because of the fresh quality ingredients. The batter on my chili rellenos was light and just a little sweet. The richness of the big chunks of melty Oaxaca cheese went perfectly with the spice and tang of the pepper and tomato sauce. I'm not sure what was on the slaw that was probably suppose to be a garnish but it was delicious and I ate it all. I usually order the same thing, but with Los Sombreros so close, I'm looking forward to working my way through the many vegetarian and vegan options. I first found this place when we were having our third kid at the hospital across the street. The hospital is good at feeding mommy, not so much the father. Came here by coincidence, and everything with top notch. Today I happened to be driving by land I stopped in to eat. Amazing. I decided that I should plop a review on here. Once again, The food was top-tier Mexican. The service, personal and engaged. Eric was my server, and he gave me solid advice and took very good care of me. Service was legit terrible. When I was researching their online presence, I did notice that they had recently changed their menu, and their staff did say that they were learning the menu. The upstairs and downstairs, where sharing the same items, such as juice and liquor and menu descriptions The upstairs was very slow with coming out with drinks so we thought we would go downstairs for a faster service and they were even worse because they had to go back upstairs to get the stuff that we ordered ! The service here was TOP NOTCH! The food was absolutely delicious! The quesadilla is a definite 10/10. We added chicken to ours and I could have licked the plate clean. The ribeye tacos were unlike any other steak taco I've tried. They were so tender and delicious. Only negative part were my crispy tacos. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan, and the order didn't have 3 different flavors like advertised, 2 of 1 flavor. What I will say is, the staff was very accommodating and more than apologetic when trying to correct the issue. We loved our drinks, 10/10 on the spicy margarita. We will definitely be back!!! Also, they had live music, which normally is on Thursday nights but I'm so grateful we got to experience it. Also, the atmosphere is beautiful. I really wanted to give 5 stars- the food and staff were wonderful. I don't know if it was an off night, but the 2 servers acted as hosts, waiters, busers, and bartenders!! They were hustling and have to give them credit, that's the only reason I stayed- i waited 10 minutes to be sat and the table i ended up sitting at was vacant the whole time....they simply couldn't get to me (both acknowledged me and apologized). We've been here multiple times but this last visit might not bring us back. We decided to do a brunch/lunch here on Sunday. We were the only ones in the restaurant when we arrived about noon. When we were given the table it was a little small for our group so asked if we could move to the bigger table in the back, the waitress rolled her eyes and turned around while saying "yea, that's fine". As we sat down the waitress stated that there was no tortilla chips because they had a big party the evening before. We proceeded to ordered our food still being the only people in the restaurant about 20 minutes of our food being put in the waitress comes back and tells someone in our party that they did not have that plate available. Our food took a good 40 mins to come out and it was only us plus another table that walked in about 30 mins after us. The vibe was off for sure! read more

I have a very mixed review for this location. It was my family and I's first time here and we were honestly kind of disappointed. Nothing really to do directly with the staff but mainly management. We had a reservation for about 6:30p and when we came in it was soo incredibly loud in the restaurant it was extremely overwhelming. We looked up to the balcony and saw what looked like a baseball team having a party up there, there were kids running everywhere and just being incredibly disrespectful to the other patrons at the restaurant. Myself and a few other tables told the servers it was way too loud and asked them to tell the manager to ask them to quiet down or be more respectful. Nothing happened. The whole hour and a half we were here we had to yell across the table just to hear each other. It's a long drive, but we keep coming back! Great service! Great food! The only thing I haven't liked thus far was the Lamb Adobo, but after I brought it home and doctored it up (more spice, less vinegar), it was actually really delicious. Even though the flavors were way off for that dish on that day, the lamb was cooked to absolute perfection. The shrimp cocktail can feed an army. As a matter of fact, I'd say most of their serving sizes are for at least two and up to four people. The flavors they conjure up in most of the dishes are the best we've had in this locale, and the chips and salsa are downright addictive. Do not come here without ordering one (or more) of their fabulous margaritas....then, perhaps, an Uber. read more

My husband and I were in Mesa for a business trip and were on the hunt for some good Mexican food. Whether it was traditional or modernized, we knew we wanted good food! We are SO glad Los Sombreros popped up on our Yelp suggestions! We stopped in on a Saturday night after a bad travel day and we were immediately greeted by multiple staff with a friendly hello. Already put a smile on our face! Once we sat down we were greeted immediately with iced waters and fresh chips and salsa. The salsa was smokey and delicious. Not your average restaurant salsa, and we loved that! We ordered margaritas to drink. These margaritas were so smooth and tasted so fresh. Big compliments to the bar staff! Next we ordered queso fundido with black beans and chorizo. Back home, it would have been a bowl of melted cheese with chorizo and black beans on top. So we were delighted to see this scorching hot skillet with (what looked to be) broiled cheese on top of the beans and meat. It was absolutely fantastic. We both were craving enchiladas so we figured we would get different meats to sample. He ordered the smoked chicken and I ordered the carnitas. Both were beautifully plated and were a flavor bomb! Although if we did have to choose a favorite, we would say the smoked chicken. The salsa verde on top was incredible! I wish we saved room for dessert but we were so full. Stopped in for Cinco de Mayo to try the taco bar and special menu. The tacos were pretty good as were the chips and salsa. The guacamole was top notch but more chips would have been nice. Ordered the smoked chicken enchilada, which sounded good based on the description on the menu. It was a big disappointment. For $18, I expected much more than what I got. It was anemic to say the least and bland. I am not sure what the menu looks like outside of today's celebration, but hopefully the enchilada isn't a reflection of it. The taco bar was a two for $5 special and included 4 choices of meat. They were all pretty good, especially the Steak and Al Pastor. The interior of this spot is exceptional, I loved the colors and attention to detail. The menu was a bit oddly layed out but we were still able to find something to order. I got chicken tortilla soup and two tacos and my friend got Puerco en Chipotle with beans and rice. Everything we ate was super tasty and the pork tacos were so juicy. Our server, Geoff, was outstanding and had great timing while answering our questions efficiently. I know times are tough lately with inflation but we found some of the dishes to be a bit overpriced. For instance the Puerco (carnitas with tomatillo sauce) dish that came with rice and beans was $22 but I will say- everything tasted so fresh and delicious so they are likely using high quality ingredients. All in all, this spot is fantastic if you're not paying attention to $$$ signs. Great service, phenomenal food, and awesome atmosphere. read more

Great new location for Los Sombreros. This one is located across the street from Mesa Community College. The interior of this restaurant has such beautiful decor that it makes you feel like you are in Mexico. I really like the food here. Los Sombreros offers up delicious authentic central Mexican cuisine. If you haven't been, you have to start off with the housemade guacamole. It's made from scratch and is so fresh. For entrees, they have lots of wood-fired house specials to choose from. The Pollo con Espinacas and Camarones al Tequila are a couple of the featured dishes. On my first visit to this location, I ordered the Pork Pozole as my starter. It was perfect for a chilly night. The Puerco en Chipotle was very flavorful and the carnitas meat was so tender. I highly recommend it. Even though I got a Modelo that evening, I highly recommend you get one of their tasty margaritas. They are pretty popular and you can get them discounted at happy hour. Los Sombreros has a long tradition here in the Valley that goes back to 1994. The staff is very friendly. They have a couple other locations in other parts of the Valley too. If you love great Mexican food, I highly recommend a stop here. They do family take-out meals if you would rather stay at home and eat. read more

W O W! This is an incredibly adorable space with so much charm that makes it perfect for an evening dinner with family/friends or even a date night! We made reservations for our party of 6 and thank goodness that we did. We were seated almost immediately by the hostess to which a party ahead of us began to complain about. What I want to commend is how all the employees here responded in a professional and kind way and were willing to extend their flexibility to make sure that party was comfortable while they waited. The people at Los Sombreros care and it shows. Our server was absolutely amazing! She was so friendly, fun, and knowledgeable about all the cuisines. We ordered a few things for everyone to share but I personally ordered the shrimp tacos and these were by far the best shrimp tacos I've ever had. They were plated in the most aesthetic way possible. My boyfriend got the smoked chicken enchiladas and these were also the most delicious enchiladas I've ever had. The chicken was so tender, juicy, and rich of flavor. If I ever find myself in the area again, I will definitely check this place out again. This is a great restaurant that I've driven past and unfortunately overlooked previously. I'm glad this business survived 2020 so I could try their food. The house guacamole was very refreshing with the crunch provided by the shredded cabbage and radish. The al pastor tacos were juicy and prepared just right with the pineapple chunks. I'm a big fan of horchata so that made the meal set just right. The extra refills also didn't hurt. We ordered some Mexican chocolate cream pie to go and enjoyed that deliciousness once we got home. Really enjoyedy first visit here. They do things a little different which is a nice change of pace. I got two crispy tacos on the Tuesday deal. Loved the potato taco but the chicken had tomatio sauce which I didn't like. They garnish the taco side with sauce and cheese which looks cool but makes them soggy so my advice is to tell them to out the garnish on the side. My wife got some special pork think that she loved and tasted it and it was fabulous. We also got a guacamole which was huge and very very good. They have a nice patio Service was a little slow but taco Tuesday is always busy. It felt like they might be under staffed like most places these days.
