I like to eat at non chain locally owned mom and pop type establishments. I come to Kanab once or twice a year and have always skipped this place. Possibly because of the outside appearance. Boy was I wrong. This place is now an annual stop for my trips. We had their cheese stuffed crust pizza. The dough and sauce could compete with anyone. Toppings galore and their cheese covered bread sticks, I am starting to salivate and I just woke up. Move over Pizza Hut, you are a long way from the quality and friendly service here. read more

All the ingredients were standard Sysco canned goods, like the pineapple on the pizza, and not very appealing. She told me it would take 20-25 minutes which seemed excessive for a tiny pizza but that's about as long as it took. Not expecting much for a small town so neither impressed more disappointed. Pizza and beer does not go hand in hand at Lotsa Motsa. They do not sell any type of alcohol but their pizza is pretty amazing. The pizza was very fresh and the crust was perfectly crispy. Pizza was a decent price and the restaurant was clean with some arcades and a stuffed animal win-a-prize crane thing. Before writing this review, I did extensive research on the history of Kanab. As it turns out, Kanab wasn't settled by pizza artists from Sicily. It was settled by meat and potato loving Mormons from the ice covered parts of Europe. The fact that there is a pizza place in Kanab at all is a miracle. As far as the pizza goes, it is pretty good. But I really like pizza, I don't know if I ever had bad pizza. The worst pizza I ever had in my life was still pretty good to me. If I went to a pizza mecca like New York, Chicago or Italy and got this pizza I might be a little disappointed. But in Kanab it is freakin awesome. The service is good. The staff there consists of local high school kids. It's good to see them making pizza rather than running wild in gangs or whatever kids do here. Prices are good, about half of what I would pay back home. If you are in Kanab and feel like you want some pizza Lotsa Motsa is a pretty good choice. Just remember where you are. read more

This is one of the finest small town pizzas ever made. Everything is so carefully and expertly constructed to the point that repeated tastings are just as good as the first. Also, the atmosphere, along with the amazing decor, is real shocker and few pizzerias have managed to create the same kind eerie feeling. The story starts with the crew of our traveling group "Nostromo" waking up before schedule. We soon realize our internal hunger has detected food in a nearby town and we go to investigate. One of them unwillingly brings back a...PIZZA(!) which soon becomes initially a very unwanted passenger on our road trip. The introduction of the titular pizza in the famous gut-burster scene is a real jolter. Especially if you wanted it for dinner. The music, too, must be mentioned and it moves the evening along with unrelenting terror. However, the lack of music, at certain times, works just as well and this combination makes for one of the best musical montages to be put in a pizzeria. This is a classic restaurant that spawned a bunch of copycats, many of which are just sad. "Lotsa Motsa Pizza" came first and it is easily one the best. read more

I saw some bad reviews and almost skipped coming here. There were very few restaurants in the area that were open so I stopped here on a whim. The pizza was great, my kids and I both loved it. Good sauce, good crust, cheesy and the toppings were fresh. My wife was pleased with her wings. When we drove up, we were a little concerned that it was a Friday night and there were no customers!!! We sat in the car and debated whether to go in or not when we saw a local from the animal shelter go in for food. We decided to give it a try. We ordered a combo and a cheese pizza. After about 20 minutes it was ready. It looked great and when we got to the hotel, it was great! It wasn't the best pizza I ever had, but is was really good! As we were driving back to the hotel, I noticed most restaurants were empty, too. I guess it wasn't dinner time in Kanab yet! Wow, I'm really not sure where to begin with this place.... I'll start with some context: My mother and I were in Kanab for 4 days, enjoying the amazing parks in this area, from which we always return famished. On our first night there, we attempted to get pizza from Lotsa Motsa, which was listed as being open until 9:30pm (and which was confirmed by our motel). We arrived a bit before 9pm but the startled-looking girl at the counter was a bit reluctant in taking our order. We asked what time it was and she said 8:57. We asked when they closed and she said 9pm. We asked if she would let us order a pizza and she said "uuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmmm" and she thought a bit more about it and declared "ummmmmmmmmmmm" and eventually came to a decision, declaring "welllllll....ummmmmmmm...no, we're about to close.....". We said we'd be happy to take it to go and she said "ummmmmmmmmm....no, we're about to close." We didn't want to press it (I think primarily because my mother wanted to try Big Al's Burgers, directly across the street, which, incidentally, also closes at 9pm, but which served us), so we left. Two days later, we decided to give it another go. The same girl with the blank look in her eyes attempted to take our order. My mom ordered some pasta dish without incident and I wanted a calzone with 4 toppings. She said I could do 2 or 3 toppings but not 4. I've got a favorite combination that is pretty okay with 3 toppings, but is absolutely amazing with all 4 toppings (one topping is a bit contentious for many people, so I dare not say what it is, lest I'm topping-shamed in this public forum). People's topping preferences aside, I just couldn't get her to add 4 toppings. I offered to pay more; I explained that it's perfectly fine if they used less of each topping so the topping to cheese to sauce ration would be [whatever the chef felt was optimal]; I tried to make it clear that I'd be fine with just about ANYTHING, just as long as they put those four ingredients in a single calzone--but she wouldn't do it. No explanation whatsoever--just "sorry, we can't do that." I'm sure that the chef would have been okay with it; I'm sure the manager would be okay with it; I'm even guessing the owner would be perfectly fine with it. Yes, that is complete speculation on my part, but that's all I can do since she couldn't bring herself to conjure up any other explanation as to why such a feat would be impossible. I've spent time in restaurants in this beautiful country, and I've experienced pretty much the entire spectrum of what one might expect in terms of customer service and, while this may not have been the absolute worst, it was certainly in the bottom 1-2%. It really is a special person that embodies apathy, laziness, and a complete lack of respect for one's employer. I know this person won't be in the service industry for long (unless it's the owner's daughter, I suppose) but that's really not the point. It's just that this sort of "I-don't-give-a-sh*t" attitude really depresses the heck out of me whenever I come across people like this. I DO remember just how mind-numbingly boring all those high-school jobs were back when I was younger but I could never bring myself to have such a disregard for one's employer to treat their business with such disdain. I'm sure the owner would have been horrified to see his employee treating any customer with such disrespect. Regarding the food that we actually DID succeed in purchasing (my mother's pasta), she said it was decidedly "okay." When I asked how many stars she'd give it, I was surprised when she said "four" but then she said that was on a scale of 1 to 10.....So, I guess that's a 2 on Yelp's rating system. Adding in our rating for "service", I'm giving this place a 1.5....since they don't do fractions of a star, I'll just call it 1-star. read more
