Excellent service + fantastic Chinese food = 5 stars! Came here with the hubby for Valentine's Day and this place was packed. Upon walking in, we were immediately greeted by an elderly man (the owner) who was super generous and definitely treats his patrons like family. Love the modern ambiance of this place; especially the red tangerine wall colors and hanging lanterns. This place offers a great menu selection. For those that have been to CF Cheng's in Natomas, the menu items are quite similar. We settled with the chef's recommendation of fresh lobster pan fried noodles. He advised us not to order anything else since the portion will be enough for the both of us. Boy was he right! The entree was massive and definitely fulfilling. The pan fried noodles topped with stir-fry lobster was amazing. The noodles came out hot and were fried to perfection with a crunch in every bite! The savory sauce used to stir fry the lobster was phenomenal and complimented well with the noodles. The lobster was meaty and finger lickin' good! This place serves excellent Chinese food. Definitely our new favorite Chinese restaurant in the Sacramento area. Would highly recommend for others to try if you're looking for an authentic cuisine. Zero rating. Having ordered from here a couple of times now, by far the worst Chinese food we have ever eaten. Ordered two dishes for delivery. Sweet and Sour Pork with sauce on the side and Beef Chowmain. The pork was disgusting, hard as rocks and was at least three days old, stale in taste. The Beef Chowmain was all noodles with five pieces of beef in it. The tab came to $45.00 for food we tossed. This experience had ended any desire for us to seek out any Chinese Food in ELDH, Folsom and surrounding areas. As we have tried multiple Chinese restaurants (in these areas and surrounding) the Chinese food just sucks, is expensive and horrible. read more

The boyfriend and I have been to Lotus multiple times in the past, and recently we have ordered using a third party app for food delivery. I ordered us the X.O. Lamb mild, X.O. Beef spicy, Orange Chicken mild, and 8 piece cream cheese wontons. They estimated about 60 minutes for the delivery and they were pretty close to accurate, I believe they arrived 10-15 minutes early. The food was hot and fresh and everything tasted to delicious. In the past I have constantly ordered the green onions and lamb, and both have been amazing. The X.O. has a lot more veggies mixed in if your looking for more of a verity then just meat. Definitely recommend trying if your looking for some very good Chinese food. read more

My usual Amazing spot closed and I was heartbroken. THEN found Lotus 8. Soooooooooo delicious. We always over-order because we want everything! We even moved out of Folsom and it's STILL our go-to restaurant. We grab a to-go order while heading home and the kids are demanding food all the way home. My only complaint is that I eat way too much. But it is totally made up for because my in-laws love me when I bring it to their house for family dinner night lol. Thanks Lotus 8!!! Not the cheapest chinese place you can find, but definitely feels cheap compared to the value of the meal. My go to is their pot stickers, general chicken, and pork fried rice. When Lotus 8 first opened we were regular customers eating here at least once a month for around 4 years. The ownership changed and the food quality was not the same either based on my nostalgia or the chef's textures and flavors. Either way we stopped coming for our Chinese food experience. Move forward 3 years and we found ourselves in Folsom hungry for Chinese food. Out of nostalgia we decided to try Lotus 8 for lunch as we had heard they were under new ownership either for the third or fourth time. The interior was not changed, but still very clean and not very busy. We were immediately seated and provided water. Lunch specials were posted on the wall with photos along with prices. We also were provided a menu for the regular fare. On average, a reasonable $10.98 for beef, pork and chicken dishes for the lunch specials. The lunch included hot and sour soup, your choice of fried or steamed rice or noodles and a veggie fried roll along with the main dish. I ordered the General Chicken and my wife the vegetable chicken. Both dishes provided healthy portions of each item, no not skimpy. There was enough food left over on both our plates to take home for a light dinner snack. My General Chicken was crispy with a light coating of sauce that was tangy, sweet and not flooding my plate, it was very good and I will be ordering it again. I had the fried rice which was light on the salty flavor but fixed with soy sauce. The hot and sour soup was the best I have ever tasted in my travels and food experiences. It was more of a broth with the usual ingredients and not a thickened starchy porridge. My wife stated her chicken vegetables were well seasoned and had very good flavor. She ordered the noodles which lacked the salty component fixed with soy sauce. The food was so good that we returned with our family for dinner to compare the food, but truly, to see if the quality and flavors were as good as the lunch specials, they were. I am glad to see that the Lotus 8 is back on my list for Chinese food. I gave 4 stars only because in my rating scale I also consider consistency. We came in before dinner rush and the place was almost empty. We got excellent service. Waiter answered all our questions. He also checked on us often. The reason though for coming is the food. It just was memorable. We got Honey Walnut shrimp, which would make a great appetizer. Large shrimp nicely breaded. Still crisp with a dab of sweet sauce. A few walnuts added to the ends of platter. They were cold and unseasoned. Almost an after thought. Spicy garlic eggplant, which had a very very sweet and not spicy sauce. Third dish was a traditional braised tofu with spinach and a variety of mushrooms. Hubs ordered it I'm not really into lots of mushrooms. All 3 dishes we very big. Would have easily served 4. Really great food, some of my favorites were the orange chicken, shrimp fried rice, and sweet and sour chicken. We were here with a large party, I'm talking maybe 15-20 people, and they set aside the entire back room for us which was a great accommodation. All the dishes came out quickly and they had really unique dished like salted egg shrimp. Try the duck! It's really juicy, but it was a bit warm inside the restaurant. read more

I first wrote this review 9 years ago. For several years; this was my favorite Chinese restaurant. So much so that even after I moved over an hour away; I would always come here to eat a few times a year when I was in town as a special treat. The business doesn't have the same owners as before (might even be on their 3rd since?), so this is probably why there have been changes. One of the main reasons I liked this one is that they would make me fried rice without egg without a problem. The past few times; they gave me a hard time about this and were very reluctant. I understood why they couldn't give me a lunch special without egg because this would mean making a fresh batch for such a small portion. This could be costly for them, so I understand. I explained that I love their rice so much without egg and I come from so far away for it that I will gladly purchase a large portion. The gal seemed annoyed still, but agreed. She ended up bringing me back a lunch special with chow mein. I did not order this. Since they didn't want to make the rice without egg in a small portion; I ordered a large order of chicken and a large order of fried rice. I have no idea why she brought me a lunch special-- maybe because others at the table got them? She was apologetic about giving me a lunch portion, then brought me a small bowl of rice without egg to go with it. It had nothing in it and didn't taste anywhere near as good as the fried rice I'm accustomed to getting there. We had to go back and forth so much about getting fried rice without the egg that she forgot to ask me if I wanted veggie, pork, etc. in it and I forgot to offer this info. Anyway, the whole ordering experience was a cluster... even more than the time before. Which is why I'm updating my review. The food isn't quite as good as it used to be in my opinion as well aside from the rice. The egg rolls even came out burned this last time. Still solid, friendly, and more interesting than most Chinese restaurants. I enjoyed the War Won Ton Soup, it was less salty than most and may have been made from real bones (in the stock). Large bowl $12. It will feed five people. Calamari Appetizer, also soft, perfectly deep fried, a mix of jalapeno and other things like onion made this a dish I would re-order. Of our main dishes, the onion sizzling lamb for me was the best, my wife also found it delicious. It is onion heavy. We did not try the Cumin Lamb, but this lamb dish is worth trying. There is also more seafood choices on the menu here than your average chinese, but our Shrimp in Lobster Sauce was just average. Also for me the Moo Shu Pork was not high on the satisfaction scale. My boy's did not find their orange chicken as their favorite. It was solid enough though, but lots of dough. Overall this is better than your medium quality chinese restaurants for a variety of reasons. Nice interior, competent servers that know the menu, a full time manager, a large eclectic menu, so you could eat through here for a month and of course more. The food was run out immediately from the kitchen by more than just the server. A good team approach. The restaurant was about 1/2 full on a Tuesday night. Servings are large! The food doesn't impress me to have me coming back or put this top of mind as the very best that Folsom offers, with no equals. The kitchen is a bit varied to my taste. Of course some here on Yelp think it's the best that Folsom has to offer, but hey it's Folsom not Oakland or San Francisco. And the only Folsom-based Chinese/Fusion restaurant that has over 500 reviews is a bit pricey and mixed up in its formula and delivery. So will this Chinese place offer you a better deal, YES! Is it a top 5 place in Folsom, no doubt about that statement. I asked my family if it should be 3 or 4 stars, they voted for 3. So it is staying there. I could give it 4 if you find your "love it" dishes. I would come back. It's A-OK, or A-OK+. You should try it. read more

Three of us went there for lunch yesterday after a great massage at our current favorite Golden Hands nearby. The portions are large, the selection is good and I tried all three dishes we got. The walnut shrimp was good, the fish too, and the lobster sauce prawns very good. I'm taking off a star because I really dislike the practice of using spaghetti in chow mein instead of the more traditional noodles which is a practice becoming all too common lately. Years ago this place was really good. Tonight this place was a ghost town. No one was in the restaurant but us. Ordered a clay pot with tofu and seafood and meat. It was so salty; practically inedible. Thurs service was poor and the atmosphere was sad. Too cold, no decor to warm the white extra y'all walls.
