Food was surprisingly good. This place was walking distance to the hotel we were staying at and had plenty of availability for reservations. I picked this place based on proximity and Yelp reviews but didn't have too high expectations based on the reviews we had read so I was very pleasantly surprised to find how good the food was. I got the shrimp aurora and loved it. My husband got a pizza and we got grilled cheese with fries for our son who also ate both much to our surprise~ he usually just eats the fries. We had two parties and wanted our tables to be close to each other, but she sat us at opposite side of the dining room (who the F does that) when there was a lot of room on our side (see photo) W T F! I asked her why can't we sit together? I forgot what she mumbled, and then walked away. RUDE! Ps. The place wasn't packed at all. We were lured in by the claw chowder samples (outside), which was pretty good as expected. Our waitress was nice, way better than the hostess. The food was tasty, we preferred the fried food over the pasta. Would we come back again? Probably not, bc we would had a better experience if our tables were sat next to each other. Not only dog friendly, but dog pampering. It's exactly what we were looking for. We are on our first trip with our dog babies. We sat on the patio with a gorgeous view. We were all happily greeted by our server with two water bowls and a full, furry friend menu. We ordered the chowder bowl and salad, the babies had grilled chicken with rice and carrots. Our meal was delicious, fresh and hot. As for the pups, they give it two paws up. **TERRIBLE!!!!!** Most definitely choose the other place that you may be considering. The hostess sat our group in back of almost empty restaurant after we requested a window seat with a view. She was so rude when questioned why she did that & responded with indifference and sass to our polite request stating that those tables are reserved and "too bad," yet a family--with no reservations--was seated there while I asked. This family did not have a reservation. The food here is overpriced and not even that tasty. We came for the view of the beach but that polite request fell on defiantly deaf ears. Furthermore, this restaurant is sadly lacking any sense whatsoever of how to speak to customers and much less how to be courteous. Both the server & the hostess need training on how to treat customers in the hospitality industry. Unbelievably disappointed in whoever placed the hostess & server in the public sector. Would definitely not recommend spending your money at this place. We most definitely have crossed this place off the recommendation list. There are so many better options in Monterey where the customer is not belittled and mocked after requesting a nice view and then purposely being denied. Great seafood selection and great food. I was craving seafood after walking through the aquarium lol and we saw this restaurant right next to the beach. I wanted nice photos so we requested a beach view seat. We had to wait thirty minutes which we didn't mind because we didn't make a reservation and we had time. We go to Monterrey at least twice a year. My First time at this restaurant. I end up at Louie Because my go to restaurant across refuse to give me a table at the dining section because I was only going to have cocktails and appetizers. At that moment it was only me Because the kids were at the aquarium so I was looking to sit with a view to the water and work on my laptop. They told me the only place I could sit was at the bar area. Well, their lost because the kids were done early then expect it so we end up having lunch at Louie. This restaurant didn't care that I showed up by myself and wanted a table with a view. That's knowing how to do business. And good for them because we order a lot. The food was sooo good! Our waitress was very attentive and treat the kids with so much respect. (The kids, 18 & 19 haha) I forgot to ask our servers name :/ but we were there on Monday the 27th around 1 pm. I don't understand how there's not all 5 stars. I'm picky extremely picky. My wife and myself along with my service dog tried this for the first time although we've been staying at Spin Drift for 2 times a year going on 15 years. The food was fantastic. I had the salmon without the sauce and didn't want the rice they had but after tasting the rice both were the BEST I had ever tasted. We were able to sit out on the balcony and the weather was perfect. My wife had the pepperoni pizza and the cheese and crust were great. Our dog had a plain burger patty. The pizza was good size so my wife brought half back to the room and we ate it later that night and it was just as delicious cold. Definitely going back. They had a lady outside who was offering up samples of their clam chowder and that truly pulled me and my family to dine in! We also used the check in deal and it gave us 2 free cups of clam chowder if we purchased two entrees! This was such a worth it deal for my party because both of us wanted a plate with a cup of clam chowder! This clam chowder was thick and flavorful and the clams were full size pieces and not chopped bits! They offered intimate outside seating that overlooked the bay! They also had window seating that could also enjoy the views of the bay if you preferred inside seating. This place is just gorgeous! We didn't have a reservation but got sat right away. We were sitting sort of in the middle of the dining room but still had a very nice view of the water. If you want a perfect view I do suggest making a reservation because all of those tables had a reserved sign on them. We ordered the sampler platter of calamari, mozzarella cakes, and popcorn shrimp. Outstanding food and service. Our server, Lucio, was very helpful and super nice, offering his advice on appetizers. The green salad was delicious, and full of flavors. Our favorite was the red chili shrimp and calamari-a flavor explosion in every bite, along with a sourdough garlic bread with melted Gorgonzola cheese. So much umami in that dish! The New England clam chowder was so creamy, steamy hot, and rich with clams. We arrived at 4:50 pm for a 5 pm reservation and there was nobody in the entrance, the bar, or the host stand. We weren't even noticed for 15 minutes. We had a larger party and everyone arrived at 5:05 pm and we still had to wait another 5 minutes before we were really acknowledged. We were taken to our table and they accommodated us to sit by a window for the view. The decor and restaurant furniture is extremely outdated and not only looks old it looks dirty. They don't have bread other than the garlic bread which is good but it's more of an appetizer. The food was delicious and the portions were large. The cioppino did not disappoint! It is tasty and well made. I'm not sure if I will be back as the first impression of the restaurant is just not appealing and makes you think you are eating in a dirty establishment.
