Love Handle is soulful, colorful, and has so much character and personality. Seriously, if you love color, taking photos, consuming a hefty meal, and you happen to be in Indianapolis, this place is perfect for you. During my visit, the cashier was very genuine, silly, and adorable, which is always a plus. The place is fun, clean, and very creative and whimsical with all sorts of vintage looking decorations - from clown memorabilia, to VHS tapes, to random paintings that look to be created by local artists. The menu was also full of life, but I will say though - if you're getting into the "fit life" and are vegetarian/vegan, this place might not be for you. The food is heavier and looks to be inspired by the South. It kind of reminded me of being in New Orleans and eating that comfort type of soul food. Nonetheless, I would still highly recommend visiting this place, regardless of dietary preference. There are still various drink options and this restaurant is a great place to hang out at, as it is very spacious. When I came, I got the 'Cold Cannon', which is a vegetarian wrap with taters, cabbage balls, hummus, & etc (and it was basically the only vegetarian thing on the menu). It was good, came with a ton of potato chips, and because it was my first day during my week-long sales trip in the midwest, I opted not to eat those, as I was trying to avoid zombie-mode at all costs. 'Love Handle' also has 'Tinker Coffee' products, such as the canned cold brew, which is absolutely delicious. You come up to the counter and order and then they call your order out when it's ready. It is decorated like a cool dive bar, and I really wish it was that. But it is more of some hybrid between something in a food hall and a trendy sit down restaurant but with the aesthetics of a dive bar. They have breakfast and lunch menu items. While Love Handle does accommodate dietary restrictions, vegetarians (not pescatarians) take caution: most dishes feature an interesting meat. Pork belly, lox, oysters, and chicken are common, but Love Handle will also feature interesting dishes like beef tongue, pork heart, duck meat, etc. Even if you're skeptical on trying something new, trust me that Love Handle never misses on quality and flavor. Love Handle is so eclectic in its decor but also runs an unembellished operation. You'll order at the counter, they'll bring you your food, but you do not have waitstaff per se. This is a very comfortable/cozy spot with a really nice breakfast. I'm an out-of-towner here for NCAA basketball and went for a quiet breakfast before my teenager was awake. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. Being new, I had a few dumb questions that were answered with grace and charm. I landed on the jalapeño cheezy grits with chicken. The fried chicken breast was thin and lightly fried allowing you to really taste the flavor. The jalapeño grit had a nice spiciness that you sometimes don't find for people who enjoy the heat. Coffee or refrigerated bottled drinks were casual and efficient. It's only a personal preference but the grits could have had the slightest bit more cheesiness but were consistent with the theme of not being overdone. You walk up to the counter order, and pay and then you can find a they bring their food out for you. So many unique options (just as eclectic as their décor), it was hard to choose just one. I went for the Chicken Country Breakfast, food came out relatively quick - hot and fresh. The portion was huge for the $16 price tag, and I thought it was worth the cost. I loved Love Handle so much. I want to come back ASAP. The decor is so cute and vintage, I am obsessed. My friends and I met for brunch one morning. I ordered the egg sandwich with fried chicken and the gravy fries for the table. Everything was delicious and I didn't want it to be gone. Do not have ice or fountain drinks, only have plastic silverware it's just all around not what I expected. I ordered the waffle meat and egg and when they say egg they mean 1 singular egg!! I got bacon and a waffle with an extra portion of bacon ($8 was the extra portion alone) nothing was nasty, but nothing was amazing. I spent $31 and it absolutely was not worth that. My friend ordered the cheese and jalapeño grits, meat (catfish), and eggs (scrambled hard with cheese). She paid $18 in total. She was underwhelmed. The lady who helped us at the counter was nice, and she was knowledgeable about the flavor profiles. The food was a little disappointing. I had been eyeing this place on yelp and finally got the husband to give go. So I was super excited about a great culinary experience. First we learned that they switch out their menu frequently so what we went to try was no longer an option. We got the catfish with two duck eggs. The catfish had good flavor but eggs weren't worth the price. I got the grits with with pork belly and it had an egg in it. And a waffle to try. The waffle was dry. The pork belly could have used more seasoning. The grits were okay. I am partial to creamy textured grits. This missed the mark. All in all the food was just okay. They opened this morning, Sunday, at 8:00 a.m. I arrived at 8:09 and there was a line out the door - about 15 people. I was really hoping there would be some pastries left by my turn! Cool kitschy diner! The food and service were great. Loved eating on the old plates, it reminded me of my younger days. They also have used movies on VHS and laser disk you can buy if you like and they had the movie The Mask projected on the wall while my wife and I were there. Well, they did it, folks. Love Handle has made the best biscuits and gravy in Indianapolis. I know this is a bold statement in a land that prides itself on this breakfast dish, but I'm making that statement right now. You should know, this best-biscuits-and-gravy-in-Indy statement is coming from my husband, a Midwestern boy who has grown up on b&g, has eaten many permutations of b&g, and had not found a satisfactory b&g since the kind he used to eat when he was a boy. Had not found one ... until Love Handle. According to him, everything tasted homemade, especially the gravy. He says that so many restaurants try to cut corners and use packaged gravy, but you can always tell, and it's a shame. A shame because when "gravy" is in the name of the dish, it needs to stand out just as much as the biscuits, not deemed an afterthought. Love Handle's biscuits and gravy are made with lots of thoughtfulness and care. And, as my husband said, whoever made the biscuits and gravy "knows how to cook." I'm really glad my husband found great biscuits and gravy. This makes me happy. Me? I think I've eaten biscuits and gravy once in my life, and that was more than enough. Instead, I chose one of Love Handle's sandwiches: the house cured lox, sambal cream cheese and slaw. I love when restaurants do special things like cure their own meats, so I had to try this. It was excellent: the lox was tender and salty, and the bread they used for the sandwich was amazing. It was more like a roll -- a soft and chewy yet crunchy roll that was warm and fresh. I made a great choice! The sandwich was really big, and I couldn't finish all of it, but it was one of those things where you keep eating because the tastes and textures demand that you do, even though your stomach is saying to stop. (And in this case, you must ignore your stomach!) I've learned that Love Handle's menu changes weekly. I think they update it each Monday. They don't seem to have a website, but you can find their menu and other info on their Facebook page. They seem to mostly be doing carry out, and it was easy for us to just call them, place an order over the phone, and then you can pick up your bagged food at the table by the door reserved for carry-out orders. It's a no for me. I was extremely underwhelmed. I wasn't prepared I suppose and I think a lot of it is covid related, but I didn't have a good experience. Got a mimosa it was warm, in a plastic glass (and I'm not gonna act like fresh orange juice shouldn't have pulp Bc I understand it does), but it wasn't good at all for whatever reason. Not worth $8 at all. All food is served in styrofoam boxes with plastic utensils, butter packets, and Mrs butters worth syrup. I can't deal and had I known I wouldn't have stayed. This is the difference in me ordering something carry out or dining and it totally took away from the experience of dining in somewhere. But also.. all the fresh local expensive food and then Mrs butters worth for syrup?? The table we sat at wasn't clean. There aren't servers necessarily just someone who brings the things you order and leave. You dump your own food and you order at a counter. Biscuits and gravy was good, although I don't think it was worth $10. Got brisket eggs and waffles and also fried chicken eggs and waffles. Brisket was really good! The waffle tasted like your standard box waffle mix. With coffee and A bottled water it was $57, and I can't justify any of it with food or experience. read more

I found parking out front of the restaurant on Mass Avenue and paid with my parkmobile app. I like the decor it had a little bit of everything on the walls! The service was quick as well. They were not overly busy but she took my order at the counter and then brought it out to the table. I had a biscuit and gravy along with coffee and cream. The gravy was too spicy for me but if I would have had my hubby with me he would have loved it. So next time I stop here I will be trying something different but that biscuit was delicious. When I opened the container I was delighted to see a breaded piece of chicken covered in gravy and 2 perfectly cooked, slightly runny eggs. The taste was amazing! Add the biscuit with honey butter and this was a caloric splurge and great recommendation. The place has a funky and bright atmosphere, projecting old VHS movies on the wall, paired with a subtle indie rock soundtrack while you hang out. This morning it appeared to be the old animated Charlotte's Web on screen. (I say "appeared" because that projector is OLD and needs its lamps replaced to get much out of it.)
