I mean shockingly low. My eyes popped outta my head when I looked at the menu. Most items are under $5. In NYC, that's almost unheard of. I'll admit, I was skeptical. $1.19 soft serve? $2-$4 drinks? Is it *WORTH* it? But babyyyy... one thing about me? I'll always try a new spot, even if it means taking an L. I'd rather spend money satisfying my curiosity than sit around wondering if the hype is real. I went to the Chinatown location on Canal Street. The bright red storefront is hard to miss. The interior is surprisingly spacious, with a small seating area along one wall and a restroom in the back. There are three self-order kiosks or you can order at the register if you're paying in cash. Menu highlights: -Soft serve (SIGNATURE, MUST TRY ITEM) -Sundaes -Fruit teas -Milk teas -Coffee You can customize your drink's sugar and ice levels and add tapioca pearls or other toppings. The place was busy and a bit chaotic, but everything moved quickly. My ice cream was ready in under 5 minutes. You can track your order on the LED screen above the counter, and there are labeled pickup areas depending on what you ordered. I got the Vanilla ($1.19) and Matcha ($1.69). First of all... they know how to swirl! The portions were generous, and there wasn't that annoying hollow center some places sneak into their soft serve. The texture? Fantastic. Dense, creamy, silky smooth. Not watery or icy at all. The waffle cone? Sturdy and crunchy. As for the flavors, I honestly wasn't expecting much given the price... but I was pleasantly surprised. The matcha was light and slightly sweet without tasting watered down--perfect if you dislike bitter matcha, but on the milder side if you're a purist looking for that rich, earthy flavor profile. And while you're there, don't skip a photo op with Mixue's life-sized mascot, Snow King--a chubby snowman rocking a vibrant red cape, a golden crown, and an ice cream wand. When I went it was pretty packed and there are 3 self service kiosks and one person taking orders at the register. I was able to get to a open kiosk pretty quick and ordered seamlessly. I will say that the service was super quick, but maybe because I did not order drinks so after 5 seconds of finishing up at the kiosk, the guy at the counter was already calling my number. It was the fastest I've ever been called, but thankfully he didn't make the ice cream yet, but was just making sure I was there. I ordered the matcha soft serve which after tax came out to be 1.84 which is a steal in this economy. The matcha isn't very strong, but you can't expect too much for that price. It kind of tastes like a milder version of a matcha latte in ice cream form. It's good for people who don't like matcha ice cream to be too overpowering. I will say it does melt relatively quickly so I wouldnt recommend it on a super hot day since they dont serve them in cups unless you order a sundae. I would totally come back and try the other flavors. I am very curious about how the original is and for only 1.19, I don't think it would be too bad. Now I just got a cool puffy sleeve that looks like a mini puffer jacket on the cup! It looks so hip and cool. It is definitely very trendy and just got 9.99 you can get the puffer sleeve and an XL cup of fruit tea! I think that is a good offer. The sleeve comes with a dust pouch to prevent the sleeve from getting dirty. But then again the sleeve becomes wet after putting it on the cup so it is still dirty with water stains.

Anyway, this tea spot is from Xi'an in particular and has a few unique things, with one of the main pros for this location in particular being the design. Compared to some of the other tea places, it is very well designed, and it's a bit more calming in here, which makes this spot a good reprieve from the rest of the chaos on St. Marks. In terms of the menu, they seem to specialize in more "floral" tea varieties such as Osmanthus Oolong. Their other signature seems to be Tea Frappés, which I haven't seen much of at Chinese tea shops. As I am a big fan of the former, I went with a medium Signature Osmanthus Oolong, at 30% sugar with no ice. The oolong was pretty solid with a pretty strong tea flavor, but not too bitter, and there was a good floral flavor from the osmanthus. It was worth the $6.99 +tax. It's better than any of the cheaper spots that focus less on tea leaves, and in comparison to the fancier spots, the only place comparable nearby is N25, and this is better. This was a fancy but tasty oolong. It's a bit small for the price point, but I would stop by again.

She was hesitating (personal reasons) so I decided to try one to let her know if it's worth it. Surprisingly, I loved the floral milk tea that was presented to me (silly me, forgot to ask what it was but thankfully someone said it was their signature, osmanthus oolong milk tea). My friend then tried it and we went on our way for lunch but our minds kept wandering back to ChaHalo. During our lunch, we decided we will go back to get that osmanthus drink! Also, inside the store, it smelled so nice. They also had a wall set up with mini tea pots, teacups and a variety of other trinkets. I love how cute their little sachets are and maybe one day, I will get it (if it smells like tea?! Can someone confirm?!). Anyway, we ordered warm osmanthus oolong milk tea - mine was 50% sugar while my friend's was 70%. The cashier also stated the milk tea itself isn't too sweet but I find the 50% to be perfect for my palette. If you like to try milk teas, I would definitely recommend.
