I've only been here a few times however, everyone raves about their sandwiches. I've only tried them when they've catered for office meetings. I must admit that they are delicious. I have also had a chance to taste their pastries and their cookies were always on point. The one thing that was truly a miss for me was their bagel. It's more breadlike than bagel. A bagel has a different texture, so I know I probably wouldn't go back for it, but I'd go back for their sandwiches and pastries. So far I have tried: Red & green- the veggie sandwich, something I don't usually go for but this changed my mind and I would often go back to it if I want a light lunch. Chicken salad sandwich- pair so well with the grapes in the sandwich. The sandwich is a little smaller than the others. Turkey and ham sandwich- an original and satisfying sandwich, can't go wrong with it. Haven't been here in about five years. Was really craving a tuna sandwich so I made the trip over. Was a little disappointed in the sandwich itself, as you can see in the picture they've really went down on portion size. We got here around 12:30ish, the place was empty which I was surprised by, but they had a lot of go orders coming over the phone. Same employees are still there. That was nice to see. Sandwich tasted great, it was just smaller than the way it used to be. Amazing hidden spot, recommended to me by a coworker, I finally managed to get around to check it out and was totally blown away. Very small cozy spot with great service and atmosphere. Huge selection of items, I went with hanks favorite on egg bread, an amp up smoothie, and the soup of the day, which was chicken noodle soup. Although Lovebirds Cafe has been here for a very long time, I never stopped by until now. I ordered a to go and really liked their Asian Chicken Salad so I'm back again picking up another to go order in the morning when they open. I ordered Asian Chicken Salad, Hank's Favorite Sandwich (regular size) and Iced Chai Latte via Yelp app. I found street parking right in front of the cafe. The gentleman who helped me is friendly. He even gave me a take out menu and told me it's cheaper to call in and order vs. order on Yelp app. I ended up liking Hank's Favorite Sandwich a lot! My life changed when my 8th grade teacher introduced Lovebirds to our student council. 15 years later and it's still the only place in Alhambra that I'll get my sandwiches from. Hank's Favorite and the Cesar Chicken Salad sandwich are my go-to's, but the pesto basil chicken is also delicious if you like it toasted. Also, if they haven't sold out of pastries either, try one of their most delectable lemon bars. The service here is always on point & superb! Been getting their Hank's Favorite for years now, which is essentially a tuna salad BLT with avocado. I usually order it with the egg bread which is like a light and fluffy white bread. It really gives the sandwich a homey type of vibe. They also have a wide variety of baked goods to choose from, but the cookies are really something special. They've got a wonderful chew and have been consistently delicious every single time. The only thing is that the service isn't as good as it used to be which is why this is review is a 4 star, but I believe that's something that can be easily remedied. Ultimately, they make great sandwiches and I'm really happy they're still in business even after covid. Place is located behind of Gen's KBBQ and the parking lot structure. It's easy to miss because their exterior doesn't have any posters or hours listed, but you can go in! Food: For sandwiches you choose which sandwich you want to go with, type of bread, and if you want it toasted (bread, meat and cheese). French connection with French Roll makes it a thick sandwich. This sandwich will make you feel full. I would recommend getting the French Bread you like to have more meat ratio in your sandwich. Cheese was nicely toasted with the bread and meat so it melted in your mouth. Amp juice (Pineapple, strawberry, ginger, apple, mango, lemongrass, melon) had a smoothie texture than a liquid juice. It was an refreshing drink, but I wished it was somewhat slightly chilled to drink during spring/summer. So happy to report that this location is open again with the same staff and even better tasting sandwiches! This place shut its doors right when the pandemic hit in March of 2020. You can't go wrong with any of their sandwiches. I am a fan of their chicken salad sandwich on sourdough. It has grapes in it and I love that hint of sweetness. I've also tried their love that basil sandwich with bacon which has a nice herby and clean flavor. It wasn't busy when I stopped by and I hope the word gets out that lovebirds is back open. I've heard about Lovebirds several years ago when a friend would bring my coworkers their jelly-filled heart cookies as well as other desserts that she had made during the early morning shift. Ever since then, I've had Lovebirds on my radar. It wasn't until recently that I actually realized they had a location on First St. in Alhambra. Not sure why I seem to enjoy sandwiches and paninis so much, but every time I forget to bring my lunch, I tend to migrate towards Lovebirds to pick up a sandwich. Their hours are perfect for breakfast, lunch, and brunch - they usually close around 4 PM on weekdays. If you get there early (they open at 6 AM on weekdays), you can have your pick of pastries, muffins, etc. Arriving around noon, the selection is still pretty good, but you might find some favorite items all gone for the day. For their sandwich selections, there's specialties, paninis, croissant sandwiches, light sandwiches, etc. You can even opt for their combos (sandwich with soup or salad). Otherwise you can go with salads, soups, or some sweets. Prices are fairly decent considering they make the sandwich right then and there, but I personally think the prices are a tad bit overpriced; however, food I've ordered tastes pretty good, so I can't complain. I tried the chicken salad sandwich with a side salad for $8.95. The food looked on the lighter side, but after eating everything, I was pretty full. I liked that the sandwich had lettuce and tomatoes. I was given a choice of bread - went with sourdough; it definitely would have tasted much better if it was warm, but the chicken salad was filling and tasty. I was also able to choose from a selection of salads - I went with Maria's due to that blue cheese crumble ingredient. Salad came with cranberries, celery, walnuts, spring mix alongside raspberry vinaigrette. Not a fan of the dressing - it made the salad a little too sweet. But I liked the mix; super fresh and tasty. I've also tried the balsamic chicken breast for $8.95. This comes with chicken, tomato, pepper jack, and balsamic vinegar. I was a little confused when I opened my sandwich and saw what looked like roast beef. I thought they had given me the wrong sandwich, but it was actually correct. The balsamic vinegar had stained the chicken, making it darker than I had expected. There was a ton of chicken in that panini, and the best part was ripping it in half and watching the cheese ooze out over the side. I was already pleasantly full after eating half, but I ended up devouring the entire sandwich because it was that good. Workers are friendly, but keep to themselves. Always seem to have side conversations and inside jokes amongst themselves, which shows how well they get along with one another. I'm usually in and out of the shop in less than 15 minutes. There's an open parking structure for the city of Alhambra or the parking structure; if you're just grabbing coffee or a pastry, you might find street parking if you're lucky. tl;dr - Definitely does the job for fulfilling my sandwich cravings. I've tried several sandwiches and really enjoyed them. I've also had their jelly cookies and thought they were amazing, but it's been awhile since I've had them. If you're on a time crunch or want someplace quiet to relax, definitely recommend Lovebirds. Good amount of seating without too many customers on a weekday. read more

Lovebirds has managed to evade me for a long time due to our incompatible schedules, but I finally got to try it. We got the Classic Reuben on Dr. Snyder bread and a tuna melt on sourdough. We also used the Yelp check in for a free coffee. Maybe I've been wanting to try it too long, but I was not impressed. There are definitely better and worse sandwich shops. This one is probably slightly above middling. The Dr. Syder bread was pretty good, especially if you like raisin in your bread. The Reuben and Tuna Melt were good, but I've had better for that price. Coffee was mediocre. They said it would be 16 ozes but it looked like a 12 oz cup with a fill it yourself station. Overall, I don't know that I would choose to eat here over Denny's. read more
