Unfortunately I ended up here again because a friend wanted to have brunch here. Sorry to say but the service is still as trash as it was 2 years ago when I initially reviewed this place. Upon seating us our host told us that the next reservation would be honored in an hour and a half. In order words you've got 90 minutes to eat and leave. I was floored! Where they do that at? This was my first visit to this restaurant in museum district. When I followed my gps I wasn't expecting to find the restaurant or building which is not your norm. It looked more like an old house. Anyway I walked in to a clean looking establishment with a bar to your left and a wine wall to your right framing the dining area. There were granite slab tabletops and chairs with long booth seating along the wall. My seat was in a bit of disrepair but the rest of the seating was decent. Hats off to my waitress, Chakii B, very engaging and a warm personality who said she's tried all of the menu items. And since it was my first time, she showcased the fried green tomatoes with a semi hot and delicious sauce--on the house. BIG SHOUTOUT TO YOU! I ordered a house salad with frisée salad greens, radishes, tomatoes, and a tangy vinaigrette, that I could have done without, and a yummy bone marrow with the most mouthwatering pesto and bite sized (equivalent to a crouton) oxtails. If I wouldn't have seen the dish on a food special with Guy Fieri I wouldn't have dived in. Glad I did --Delish. Lucille's seems to be where a lot of locals hang there hat for lunch. I made a reservation here for a Friday night at 7:30 and was promptly seated. The food was delicious and the atmosphere made me feel very comfortable as if I were at home. With that being said it is somewhere you can go for an elevated date night for example I was dressed up for dinner while others were dressed down. The food is so beautiful and extremely flavorful. I had the cat fish and grits, and coming from someone who is not big on savory flavored grits I enjoyed every bite. I will definitely be coming back. I came here with my friend to try their Houston Restaurant Weeks menu and I'm so glad we did! We made a reservation for 5:30 on a Friday because we heard that they had a live band starting at 6. The band was a little loud but enjoyable and we could still hear each other talking. They have a happy hour menu until 7 for beer, wine, cocktails, and some food. We had some glasses of wine for $5 and they were good so we just kept ordering those throughout our dinner. Now for the food. We started with fried green tomatoes and they were delicious! Perfectly fried with a small amount of goat cheese on top. They had a little bit of spice too which was nice. Since we went for HRW, we each got to order an appetizer, entree, and dessert for $35 which we thought was a pretty good deal. I ordered the scallops, filet, and the croissant bread pudding. My friend had the bone marrow, hoppin john, and the red velvet cake. Everything was amazing!!! The scallops were cooked perfectly and the little bits of bacon added just the right amount of saltiness to the dish. The 44 farms filet was cooked sous vide and then seared so it was the perfect temperature all throughout. It also had a freaking delicious duck fat gravy on top. If I could have that bread pudding every day, I would. It was that good. The bone marrow dish was probably my favorite. The marrow melted like butter on the pieces of toast that it came with and it was so good! The hoppin john was a super tender pork belly with veggies, beans, and rice. I liked the meat a lot but the veggies and rice were just okay. The red velvet cake was yummy and it had little chocolate balls on top that gave it a little crunch which was nice. I just don't understand you guys! From the name of the restaurant to the menu and knowing that it's black owned, youd think that you are about to have the best good ol southern cooked breakfast. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for me. The food tasted as if it was prepared for hospital patients. It lacked taste and everything. I just simply wept on the inside. No wonder the lady next to me left pretty much all her food untouched. Although, I don't believe in wasting food I will surely not be coming back to this restaurant. For the price you pay for a meal it just isn't worth it. I will say this though... The fried green tomatoes were bomb! Oh and my friend stated that her fried fish was good. We stumbled across a great little restaurant on Saturday. We have this monthly event, where a bunch of us go out to eat and we rotate who picks the location. So the first spot was just way too crowded, and not really conducive to a large group socializing, so we call a last minute audible and scrambled to find another spot, and ended up at @lucilleshouston I have never been happier to have plans fall through! This place is tucked away, and easy to miss if you're not looking for it. The food amazing, especially when you don't know what to expect. All the staff were very welcoming & hospitable. We started with the Bone Marrow, Chili Biscuits, and Fried Green Tomatoes. For dinner we tried the Yardbird, the Lamb Neck Pasta, the Market Fish, and the Smothered Duck. Everything was so good and we were so engrossed in the meal that I forgot to take photos. This was a wonderfully surprising meal. We didn't know what to expect going in, and were absolutely blown away. What I mean is, if you're going into one of Chris Shepherd's restaurants, you know you're in for a helluva meal. This good was right up there in that same ballpark, to be sure. Brandi behind the bar was charming and engaging. Plus she mixes a great cocktail. Frank was our waiter that evening. We had fun and joked around with him. His recommendations helped us decide on our meals. EJ, who I believe is the owner, was also incredibly friendly. He chatted us up, told us about some of the upcoming events they had, and everyone really made us feel at home. Lucille's is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston. The food is very unique, the staff is extremely friendly, and the service is excellent. As an added plus, Lucille's host private events and are very accommodating. My wife and I had our rehearsal dinner there and our guests were blown away - they still talk about it almost a year later. Very good food and very tasty non alcohol drinks and alcoholic drinks. Small place. And reminded me of a hole in the walls. It's adjacent to the children museum as well. Parking was street parking when we went. Not sure if there is a specific area but when we went there was street parking right in front so did not explore etc. the appetizer was amazing. Upon arriving we had to park in a pay lot across the street. There is free street parking but it looked full so we just paid the $5. The outside appearance is nothing special but inside is cute, clean, comfortable and cozy. We were promptly seated. Our server was super nice. I checked out Lucille's for brunch on a Sunday. We arrived at a peak hour and unfortunately, there was a 45-minute wait. They asked for our number and said they would text us when our table was ready. We walked around the Museum District and returned to check in with the hostess. She seated us promptly. They don't have a parking lot but you can find free parking on side streets. Lucille's is a popular brunch spot and we were there for Houston Restaurant Weeks. The restaurant is relatively small which also doesn't help. I started off it the fried green tomatoes which are drizzled with an aioli that had a kick to it. The tomatoes were fried to perfection. For my second dish, I had the French toast. For an additional charge, you could add some chicken wings. The French toast was different than your typical French toast and tasted more like a pancake. I absolutely love Lucilles. I first visited a few years ago for restaurant week and have been a frequent visitor ever since. Friday and Sunday night they have live music and it's amazing. The patio is really cozy so the live music feels like a private concert with all of your friends.Staff and the owner are always kind, gracious and add that extra special touch to the entire experience. For a relatively small space, I have never had to wait for a table/seat and I have never felt crowded or that people were trying to worm their way around my seat to move about the restaurant. Now for the part everyone is here for...THE FOOD! I have never had a dish here that I don't like. The fried chicken is the best in Houston...the BEST. Always fried to perfection, seasoned perfectly with a slightly sweet finish. I've also had the oxtails, mac and cheese, a few salads, grits, pancakes...all amazing. Oxtails tend to be salty at other resultants but Lucille's has perfected it. Mac and cheese is never dry and the pancakes are fluffy with those crispy edges we all know and love. They have a nice drink selection and sangria for brunch. I am not a fan of sangria but I do enjoy theirs. Let me start by saying if I was able to give more stars, I most certainly would.. Eating at Lucille's was the highlight to my Houston trip. We ate on the patio on a warm day but they had light misters and fans going so it was perfect... The fried green tomatoes were really good. I believe they drizzled aioli on it and it was definitely a nice touch. I'm personally glad I got the goat cheese on the side, it's too tart for my taste buds. The yard bird was amazing! I wish I would've taken an after picture to show how I ate that plate clean. The chicken was perfect. The breading was thick, crunchy, and didn't lack flavor especially with the honey gravy drizzled over the chicken. I could've used more of the gravy but it didn't stop me from eating every last piece. The mashed potatoes were fluffy but yet still had small pieces not all the way mashed so it gave it a nice texture. The greens were so juicy, they had an earthy but flavorful taste. That baked Mac & Cheese we delicious, it was cheesy and creamy. Overall I love this place, I will definitely be going back on my next trip and the trip after that and after that as well! read more

Great Grandma's Claim to Fame... I've had Lucille's Chili Biscuits on two separate visits. As others have said, they definitely don't look like their website pictures. The website shows delicious looking moist biscuits overflowing with chili. In reality, they are dry biscuits with a small amount of dry chili sitting on top.... deceptive advertising. Fortunately, the biscuits taste better than they look. As a main course I've tried the Braised Oxtail and Meat & Potatoes. The oxtail was served with a trio of different potatoes. As for the flavor, the oxtail was very tender but lacked in the taste department. It was a completely forgettable main course, and the potatoes seemed like they were just thrown onto the plate to fill up space. On my second visit, the Meat & Potatoes, did not turn out much better than the oxtail. "Meat & Potatoes" consisted of hanger steak with sauteed greens and sweet potato gratin. If I'm being generous, I'd say that the steak was average. To compliment its averageness, the steak was also served lukewarm. The best part of the course were the sweet potatoes.
