Lucky Jean is our go place for quick food. My parents like their salads, I enjoy their chicken wings which are whole wings, second favorite in the East. They have chicken wing plates that come with two sides and a fountain drink. I usually get my plate with red bean. The bean are usually pretty good, but this last time they were rather watery. I enjoy join their French fries, I always order a small for my ride home. They offer a wide variety of things to choose from: seafood plates and sandwiches, Chinese plates, boiled seafood, etc. I've tried it all. I have, however, been disappointed with the shrimp of buns and poboys, they have become very skimpy with the shrimp. They have more to choose from so that's neither here nor there, I just don't order those items from there anymore. We will meet again. read more

Normally I'd turn to yelp for reviews and ratings if I'm trying somewhere new. However, my boyfriend convinced me otherwise since he's heard good things about Lucky Jean's. Desperately craving for a good poboy and a seafood platter, I decided to give them a go. Over the phone, I placed an order for a half oyster and half shrimp po boy, two hot sausage patties with cheese and a seafood platter with french fries. The shrimp/oyster po boy had very little seafood in it that it was quite pathetic and laughable to look at. I have never seen very few pieces of seafood (and tiny) in a sandwich like this one and especially that it's coming from New Orleans, it was a huge disappointment. To give it a fuller effect, we ended up piling all of the seafood onto one side and ate it that way 1/5. The hot sausage sandwiches were exactly like how it should taste. Greasy and spicy with robust flavors. This sandwich was kind of nostalgic as my family and I grew up eating it 4/5. The seafood platter was not memorable though. The shrimps were really small and the side order of fries were undercooked and very oily! I took a bite of the french fry and immediately spat it out! Yuck 0/5 for the fries, 2/5 for the seafood. The only good thing about my experience was the speediness of the order. It was ready for pickup within 15 minutes of ordering. We spent $41 and the food was a total waste of money! Next time if I'm craving for a good po boy and seafood platter, I'll stick with Castnet Seafood. They know what they're doing there! read more

This place used to be really good a few years back. I went today and got what I normally get and it was worse than dog food. Nasty just nasty. I don't understand why the shrimp in the gumbo was fluorescent pink but I'm not eating that. The sausage taste freezer burnt and overcooked. Lines move fast now I am just wondering if there is more good stuff out there. It is pretty clean in the new location. I was pleasantly surprised at the taste of the crawfish. I definitely ranked this place pretty high on the crawfish roster. They have a pretty wide menu and selection of other foods I would like to try. Do not go to this place for a shrimp poboy. These were the smallest most flavorless shrimp I have ever had. I couldn't even finish a third of the sandwich because they shrimp were fried too hard and they look like dried shrimp when I took the batter off. A complete waste of time and money. I wish I could give no stars. I spent $11 on something that was inedible. If you want batter on French, this is the place. If you want fresh actual fried shrimp, try some place else. Decided to give this place a try since my regular go to Po-boy joint Gene's was closed. Parking lot was kind of empty approaching restaurant not a good sign on a Friday evening, but began filling up as I parked. The restaurant was fairly organized but most of all clean which was a relief, I ordered the shrimp and oyster Po-boys...dressed of course, prices were decent, service was good and the Po-boys were delivered in a timely manner. Upon reaching my destination I found that the Po-boys were loaded with shrimp and oysters and amazingly the bread was Lidenheimer, the sign of a true New Orlean Po-boy and not to mention pretty tasty...I think I'll go back! read more

Lucky Jean Seafood is ran by a group of happy, energetic, fun and friendly people. Their energy lights up the place, but the restaurant itself lacks any charm. There are tables to dine in the restaurant, but the walls are barren and the colors are drab; I would just recommend getting your food to go. I was lured to the place by the sign outside stating that they sold seafood by the pound and the constant flow of traffic didn't hurt either. Well, when I entered and saw the large container of Crawfish on the counter, I was super excited. Once I got that first crawfish in my mouth, it further increased my excitement. It was really good. Great flavor and spicy! I ordered a plate of their General T'So Shrimp with Shrimp Fried Rice. The Shrimp was over breaded (like most Chinese places) and very saucy. The flavoring wasn't bad on the shrimp. What killed it for me was the rice. It wasn't that great and although it was edible, I wasn't in love with it. I really wanted some Chicken Wings, so I ordered them on the side. I really enjoyed them. The were tender, crunchy but not over battered and beautifully flavored. I notice a few people were picking up these cakes on the counter. I grab one for myself and saw that it was called Gooey Cake. I had never heard of it before, but it was soooo good. I went back to Lucky Jean's a few times after this and every time, I had to pick one up. The food here was fresh and on the most part tasted good. This was a random restaurant down the street from the Super 8 motel we were staying at. We drove by it every day on our way back to the hotel, and never thought much of it. But after searching EVERYwhere for some blue crabs only to realize no one had any due to the hurricane right before we got there, we decided "hey, why not give it a shot." So we walked in, and behold! A giant container of huge fresh, steamed blue crabs for only $1.29 each! Jackpot! I guess this asian owned restaurant had connections to some boat that no one else in the city had or something. We had just eaten, so we bought just half a dozen for the two of us and took it to the hotel room to eat. When we were done, we just sat there and stared at each other licking our lips. We just had to get more! So off we trekked to buy another half dozen. The people behind the counter were really nice. They picked the heaviest, biggest crabs for us. It was delicious! Perfectly cooked with loads of juicy, plump crab meat, with just a hint of seasoning on the outside that doesn't overpower the sweetness of the crab. Only downside? They had no lemons. I can't say too much about the rest of the food. The food sitting on the boilers didn't look terribly appetizing. We tried some of their boiled shrimp. The seasoning was delicious, but you could tell the shrimp had been sitting there a little too long. I'm not surprised though. The location is too random to generate too much business. Plus, it's pretty ghetto. The area around it is pretty run down, complete with construction all over the place and abandoned hotels/buildings. The next day, we were picking up more crabs when one of the workers stuck her head in from the front door and exclaimed with a mixture of humor and disbelief, "They just stole our mop and bucket!" Long story short, get the crabs, buy your own lemons, and eat your crabs elsewhere. read more

I really wish I could give a better review, but the food was terrible. The staff was super friendly and helpful, the interior looked recently and nicely remodeled, but sadly that does nothing for the food. I've only had the gumbo so this review is based on that. Gumbo isn't great, but its not bad. Has smoked sausage, chicken, okra, shrimp and rice. Has a good amount of shrimp, but they are small and i'm not even sure if its Gulf shrimp. Wish they had put more rice, chicken, and sausage.
