Due to the fact that this establishment is located in a supermarket, I was a little nervous. I was happily surprised to find that this was a great meal, though. I got fried rice with the orange chicken and sesame chicken. Honestly, the flavor on both of these was a little mild, so it was hard to actually tell them apart, but they were cooked perfectly and tasted very good. Full disclosure: My neutral rating is due to not actually eating at Lulu, though I tried. I stopped in because of the above average Yelp! ratings and occasional exuberant reviews, and because I had a yen for Chinese fast food. The first disappointment was Lulu being a food counter located inside the Dierberg's supermarket rather than a restaurant. The second disappointment was the food wasn't made to order: It's a Panda Express concept where you choose your rice, entrees and sides from steam trays. The last disappointment was that an hour before closing half the food trays were empty. Even with that the elderly server was having trouble keeping up due to two customers who constantly changed their orders while a line lengthened. I headed to the supermarket's salad bar. Passing Lulu Chinese Express on my way out it looked like the food trays were refilled but by then it was about 30 minutes to closing. Not impressed! I've had way better Chinese! My issue is that the stuff sits out in pans on a line for hours waiting for people who are grocery shopping to pick some up. The food I got had clearly been sitting for a while so the sesame chicken was dry. I almost chose broccoli beef but there was barely any beef in the pot and the broccoli was SO discolored! Ew! Plus side: the price. Appetizers are only $1! So my boyfriend and I were able pick up 2 crab Rangoon (2/$1 and tasted decent) and 2 egg rolls for just $3! Our whole meal cost about $15.. That's very fair. If anything, I'd go back for the fried rice and maybe an egg roll or 2 but probably nothing else unless I could visibly see freshness. read more

This is for the dierbergs location. The people are very nice and the kitchen is clean as a whistle...but the food is not good. I had the beef broccoli and the beef had an off bland taste. It also seem like it was dredged in flour and both the beef and the veggies were very mushy. I tried to doctor it up with Soy and siracha but couldn't finish it. I went to Lulu Chinese Express with friends a couple of days ago. One of my friends ordered a bowl with one entree and was given the wrong one, place was not busy so no excuse. I got orange chicken which was kind of blah and sesame beef which was premium and $1 more while still being totally pink in the middle. Taking the place of Big Bowl at the Dierbergs Brentwood is LuLu Chinese Express. Gracious service. Crab rangoon tasty. Pork eggroll good. Pork pot stickers fabulous. Kung pao chicken spicy but not overpowering. I declined any rice and got options for s-m-l on the kung pao chicken. Opted for large to last two meals for me. Coming here for a while. I have to admit it was a guilty pleasure but when I had tried LuLu's hot from the line it was delightful. My husband and I got a mix of things. I had the General Tsao chicken and lo mein and my husband got sesame chicken and fried rice. We both agreed everything was good but what really stood out was the General Tsao chicken and the lo mein. It reminded us of delicious Chinese food from natural bridge area. I feel like this place is constantly being compared to Panda Express. Please don't compare them, Lulu's has a flare of their own! I like it much more than Panda Express. And after our first visit, we came back over and the kind woman working the front recognized us--and since it was towards the end of the shift-- she was very generous with the portion size ;) If you are at dierbergs on time get it hot. The cold case has a few items but when reheated might cause you to go "meh". If you MUST pull from the cold case get the egg rolls, the crab Rangoon, or the potstickers. They had a menu showing shrimp dumplings were available, but when I inquired about them, the person working there informed me that the sign was actually outdated and it should probably be taken down. This is the best buffet style chinese around. Go grocery shopping and come home with yummy food you don't have to cook after shopping. I recommend the spicy chicken and chicken with green beans. The food here is not too saucy and the nonfried food I think is pretty healthy (except salt). I get white rice to cut down on the fat. They are open everyday so its always an option. You know those Chinese food stalls, like the ones in the mall food courts, that you're afraid to try because the food may be greasy, old and stale?? Well, this is one of those restaurants. I had good hope for it when I passed by the first time. The food smelled nice and I value Dierbergs Markets' freshness and variety. My fiancé' and I decided to go to the deli to order fresh sushi, but while passing back by, heading toward the café to eat our lunch, we decided to go ahead and give Lulu a try and split a small order. Disappointment #1: No samples, (as is usually customary at food stands) and no wonder. We probably wouldn't have wasted those precious few dollars after gaining an idea of the unpleasantness' we were about to experience. #2. If I could give this place no stars I would, but seeing as though I have to at least give it one, I'll give it to the crab Rangoon. The filling was very light, creamy and had a great crab and onion flavor. However, the wonton itself was cold and half gummy, therefore causing the full experience of it to be bitter-sweet. #3.THE EGG ROLLS. My goodness I have had frozen egg rolls from budget brand grocery stores that were better. It was saturated with grease, stale, and put me in a mind frame of chewing melted, peppered rubber glue. Now, I can't say I'm an expert, but I am an enthusiast who greatly appreciates GOOD food. I wouldn't go so far as to expect to have my socks knocked off from a stall vendor, but to top off the worst tasting egg roll I've ever encountered in my life, the food service clerks seemed to think it was ok that their customers leave unsatisfied with their food and their service. My fiancé' purchased the egg roll before joining me at the table as I ate the crab Rangoon. He took one bite as he walked to our table and then immediately turned around to proceed to ask for an alternative to the unappetizing "appetizer". If I'm not mistaken, you have to taste something before you can say whether or not it's distasteful. To take one bite is not to have eaten the full portion. They did not offer him another option or a refund of the purchase, nor even an attempt to heat it because he had already "eaten it". I hadn't tried it for myself until he came back to the table to give me the upsetting news. I love that after facing all the horrors of shopping and parking in Brentwood, I can swing by Dierbergs to grab my groceries and grab large portions of good Chinese takeout. The food is fast and good. It's certainly Americanized Chinese food but that's what I am looking for when I come here. I was rather disappointed in this restaurant, since I think it's derived from the original, authentic Lulu's Seafood Restaurant on Olive Blvd. It replaced the Big Bowl Restaurant in Dierberg's, which was mediocre. When the restaurant reopened as Lulu's, they had a menu with the pricing at the top and a TV screen with varying menu items. I inquired about the steamed rice in bamboo leaves that was on the screen, the cashier told me that they don't serve it, despite being on the menu screen. I then asked about the noodles that was then listed on the screen, he then proceeded to just think I'm crazy. He then tried to sell me on the General Tso's chicken and stuff in the window already made, which to a Chinese person is a no-no. I revisited a few weeks later, and I saw the noodles listed on the menu again, and surprise, they had it. It was sitting in the window dish, and I bought a small to go box of it. It had a decent flavor of it with curry and various spices, but it was horrifically dry and I could tell it had been sitting there for a prolong period of time. In summary: If you want REAL and AUTHENTIC food, hit their real restaurant on Olive, but skip this location unless they shape up and make things fresh and serve their actual menu. read more

Ive been here about five times. The place leaves a lot to be desired on the outside and its surrounded by a LOT of other Chinese restaurants but the interior and food quality (especially selection) is really good. My boyfriend says you can always judge the quality of an Asian restaurant by how many actual asians enjoy dining there... Based off of his theory- this place is excellent! The restaurant is run by a large family and the majority of the diners were of asian decent (myself included). The menu is HUGE so it would be hard to find something that didn't appeal to your liking. The portions are also huge which is a huge plus! I brought my mom here (she's full asian) and she wasn't as impressed but still said it was pretty good. The selection of food offers a moderate variety, but includes many of the typical dishes you would expect at many Chinese restaurants, such as General Tso's chicken, beef and broccoli, kung-pao chicken, and orange chicken. If you are in the mood for something sweet or spicy, they have a dish you might enjoy. The taste of the dishes is good, and far better than I expected based on my experiences with other Chinese takeout. Additionally, the prices for the food are low and the quantity they give you is substantial, so I think the value you get per dollar is better than certainly many other Chinese takeout options. The value, convenience, and taste are all strong points for this LuLu's Express, so I would recommend stopping by if you are looking for something quick and tasty. read more

By far some of the best Chinese in the area, I work in the City Place buildings and it is nice to be able to walk to Dierbergs and pick up some great Chinese during my lunch hour. Their beef and broccoli is some of the best I've ever had, their fried rice is good as well. The portion sizes are huge, you definitely get your moneys worth here! When the weather is nice you can sit out front on the patio at Dierbergs as well which is a great place to people watch since there are so many business around. read more

I waited in line for something on the menu. Turns out there are things on the menu that they don't actually serve at this location (dierbergs). They told me to go to location on olive. Thanks, but if I'm going to Olive, I'll go to Wei Hong. Food there far surpasses lulu. Also at Wei Hong on Grand. Will skip lulu just because this menu thing aggravated me. I should have known better, but was hungry from missing lunch today and got a small size orange chicken and small kung pao chicken to go. Got it home, dug into the orange chicken and ick - as I should have expected. The breading on the chicken was gooey and the chicken itself dry and mostly tasteless. I tried the kung pao - a little better although the chicken was a bit rubbery - from sitting under a hot warming lamp for who knows how long? This Lulu's in in the Dierbergs on Eager Road and if you want the real thing (Chinese-wise) just take a short drive over to Wong's on Big Bend near Manchester, in Maplewood. On my most recent visit I had Green Bean Chicken, which was the best food of any kind I've had for several years. They are inside Dierberg's, which is being remodeled and causes problems for access to water or soft drinks, but this is not their fault. Great taste overpowers the inconvenience. read more
