We visited Luna Roja while staying at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown on a recent business trip to Dallas, TX, and our experience was elevated entirely by our incredible bartender, Shane. (A huge shoutout to the Hilton, too! The restaurant entrance is conveniently accessible right through the hotel, which made our evening wonderfully easy!) Not only was Shane welcoming and attentive, but he is a master behind the bar. He mixed an absolutely delicious jalapeño margarita, it had the perfect balance of spice and citrus, beautifully presented with a colorful half-salt, half-Tajín rim (which he ad-libbed after hearing me mention to my husband that I missed the Southwestern Tajín taste!). Beyond his mixology skills, Shane was a fantastic guide through the menu. We trusted him to steer our appetizer and meal selections, and his recommendations were spot-on. My husband ordered the fish tacos and absolutely loved them, while I opted for the Enchiladas de Mariscos. The seafood in the enchiladas was cooked to perfection and packed with rich, vibrant flavors. While I was traveling in Dallas , I didn't really find many places ( options) for breakfast/ brunch so I decided to come to this place the door where address took me was closed it says enter on side door but was also locked . Fortunately one of the house keeper of the hotel next to it open for us , Only 2 other clients and while I was there I saw another couple trying to get in by door that says use side door . And they just left since it was closed . Personal need to put more attention to this . Food as good . I would come back even tho service was some how between poor and acceptable The place looks nice and it's comfortable and I believe it could use more and better customer Service ! read more

What a great place with a beautiful design. During my stay at the adjoining Hilton I took the opportunity to sample Happy Hour, Dinner and a few Breakfasts. The staff is exceptionally friendly. Anna and JT in the morning and Kat, a visiting hospitality manager in the evenings with Shane at the bar. Food is very well presented and beautifully served. 3 breakfasts for me; Huevos Ranchos, Breakfast Tacos and an Omelette. All fresh and delicious. For dinner I had the Acho Glazed Short-ribs which were fall apart tender and wonderfully sauced. Really great dish at a very nice establishment. read more

The food and service was amazing. Our server Andres was very dry kind and attentive. The food was portioned amazingly, we split our entrees and we were so full ! My wife and daughter took me to Luna Roja for Father's Day this past weekend and it was a great experience. The restaurant was decorated nicely and very clean and organized. The service we received from Mia was amazing and very professional. She knew the menu from front to back and gave us great recommendations for all 3 courses. We started with a crispy pork belly and shrimp appetizer that was second to none. The other appetizer was a shrimp, scallop and radish salad. This was another home run dish. For dinner I had the seafood enchiladas and it was also. Can't say enough about about the whole experience. The manager was stopping by for quick conversations and making sure we were taken care of. My friend and I went to Luna Roja for brunch this weekend. The ambience was very warm and sophisticated. We had excellent service from our server Johnathon. Johnathon was very attentive and when we explained that we would be splitting two entrées, he let the kitchen know of our plan and asked them to equally split the entrées between two plates so that we wouldn't have to separate it at the table. This was kind and made diving right into brunch that much easier. The chilequiles were delicious. Luna Roja's salsas were tasty and added the right flavors to each dish. I ate here twice in one weekend. The food is absolutely amazing! The Baja Cod and Vampire Carne Sada Tacos, their queso(we got plain) and the Mexican street corn was Delicious! I personally liked their food more than Las Palmas in Uptown. Their tortillas are sourced locally and fresh made and all their sauces are made from scratch and you can tell. Prices were very reasonable as well. I wish this place was closer to where I lived, but I'll drive back. The service and atmosphere was great too! I loved the vibey patio! Three quarter sized scallops that were cooked till they were rubber and smelled very fishy. $38 for three miserable scallops, corn purée that was like glue, and no redeeming qualities. I went to Luna Roja on a Tuesday afternoon at about 12:30pm and sat at the bar. I'm not sure there was anyone else in the place. (One other customer that came to the bar was never seen or acknowledged, so he later had to get up and find a server to get a menu.) I ordered the "Taqueria Smash Burger" (I know, I know, burger at a Mexican place, but that's what sounded good.) Now, I understand that some trendy burger places will trick up their burgers and put a giant medium-cooked patty in the middle of a bunch of oddball toppings. But that is not what I expected when I ordered a "smash burger." The sandwich was a bit thicker than I expected upon arrival, but okay, different interpretation, I guess. Once I bit into the burger, I quickly realized that one of the two "smash" patties was severely undercooked - we're talking red center. The chef (or line cook?) must have forgotten the smash part. Now, if this is my punishment for ordering a burger at a Mexican spot, my response is: If they can't execute a burger, how will the rest of the menu be? My second response is: If you can't execute a burger, don't put it on the menu. I took off the second patty and ate the rest of the burger. The fries were decent. I did let the server know and asked her to give a heads up to the kitchen and manager. She gave me 10% discount on the $19 burger. I was excited for a new Mexican place downtown, and I root for new restaurants in this economy, but it will be an uphill battle for Luna Roja with a lunch menu touting $15-$18 three-taco plates and $14 guacamole. read more

Service was practically nonexistent. Sure it's Cinco De Mayo, which we allowed for a bit of slow service. However, the management was too busy flirting with chicas at the bar while we sat with empty glasses at our table. Honestly, this place was not that busy to experience such horrible service. Management should be extremely embarrassed. If we noticed their behavior, certainly others did as well. Several tables experienced the same treatment. The ambiance of the restaurant was festive as I would expect on Cinco De Mayo. The other patrons sitting around me were enjoying themselves, not a sour look in the place. The fried pork belly and shrimp chicharron had a great crispy exterior with a tender interior, and the aioli dipping sauce was a great compliment. We had the tacos & taquitos, short rib, pork belly, and sweet potato (taquitos). The presentation was clean and balanced. The short rib taco was perfect.
