I ended up ordering the Montezuma Fish Tacos; they were good, but I didn't love it paired with the crunchy taco. It easily fell apart and made it hard to taste all toppings/pairing together. The camarones should have been sautéed slightly more to bring out the flavors. Also, the churros were a bit hard... making them softer would bring a better dessert. However, even with those two mishaps, this place was good! My husband raved about his food, and the kid's meal (chicken and fries) was so yummy, too! The chicken was cooked perfectly. We arrived during the lunch hour. Parking is nearly nonexistent around here. Get ready to park at least 5 blocks away. That being said, the customer service was exemplary. Drinks refilled, chips and salsa refilled, and the food was soooo delicious. This restaurant is in Dallas, so not many vegetarian options, but the few they had were glorious. This restaurant is everything I wanted and more for Mexican food. It all tasted authentic down to the red rice and the salsa. Not to mention the delicious hot chips they bring out before your meal. The service was quick and fast, the waiter kept checking on us and made sure our waters were always filled. This is a quaint little place in the artsy area of town. I had smoked brisket tacos. They were excellent! Great flavor! Very tasty. I would definitely order again. They came with rice and black beans. Nothing special here and disappointingly small portions. The service was excellent! The Bad: Parking here is terrible! I had to literally park five blocks away. Plan for this. There are very few parking spaces anywhere in the area. The Ugly! The men's restroom was flooded. No apparent reason. No sign on the door. Water over an inch think on the floor. Ick!!' My Saturday was perfected once I had my meal at Veracruz! Not only is it located in such a great location, the food was splendid! My boyfriend, friend, and I were very hangry after leaving an event in the city! While I was craving soup, they wanted enchiladas! Luckily Veracruz had both! I opted for their Caldo de Marisco, which is a seafood soup, and it was AMAZING! The size was good, and while it was on the pricy side, the portion made up for it. I only give 4 stars specifically because my boyfriend ordered their Mole enchiladas, and while they were great, he only got 2, both of which were small. For the price point, he expected to have at least 3. The service was great! We were able to sit down immediately and we made it just in time for 5$ brunch mimosas! The vibe and ambiance is also great! There was plenty of sunshine and views of the street. Overall, we will be back! Especially to try one of their infamous margaritas! read more

Veracruz is a well-established restaurant in the heart of the Bishop Arts area of Dallas. While they offer a few common Tex-Mex dishes, their focus is on cuisine from the Veracruz region of Mexico, including indigenous influences from Mesoamerican, Mayan, Huasteco, and Aztec cultures. Their menu is more likely to feature blue tortillas, rich mole sauces, plantains, and pupusas rather than traditional street tacos. During my visit I had their Xalapa-style chile relleno which was a deep fried chili stuffed with beef, potatoes, walnuts, and raisins, and smothered in a white cream sauce. Veracruz offers bar seating, several small internal dining rooms, and umbrella covered sidewalk seating outside. My visit was on a Sunday afternoon when they were packed with customers. Their frenetic atmosphere was a bit chaotic but their food and service were prompt and attentive. I hesitate to give them five stars due to their rather tired dining rooms and seating, a refresh is needed. But their food and friendly service remains top-notch. If you are ready to go beyond typical TexMex tacos and tamales and try some authentic Mexican cuisine, you should def add Veracruz to your must visit list. read more

The beans felt more like an aside but were okay as well. For those that can't handle spicy food, be wary of their salsa and added jalapeño/pico. I for one loved them, but they were on the spicier side. The service was very attentive. They made sure to refill when needed and checked up every so often. I ordered a coffee at an odd time (which was delicious as well). Although the coffee took some time they made sure to update me regularly that they were still working on it. You're gonna like this special place it's a little quirky layout because it's an older building. There's art there's accents. There's very friendly service. Went on Sunday as it was a nice day outside in the neighborhood. We sat outdoors along the sidewalk and the service was embarrassingly slow. When we got the food, it was so underwhelming and bland. We asked the server for limes to try to make the fajitas better but to no avail. The next time he comes back (20 minutes later) I tell him I didn't like it as I took two bites of a single fajita and to take it off the bill. He replies, "I wish you had told me sooner." Mind you he'd only checked on us once in the meal and that's when I asked for limes. So here we are debating on when I should've said something.... On top of that as he is cleaning the table off, he spills my drink all over my lap. I don't care because the margarita was absolutely disgusting as well but we didn't even mention that. I absolutely love Veracruz cafe! This staple in the bishop arts district is full of life and vibrancy. It may not be as fast paced as other places in Bishop Arts but no worries- this is a wonderful restaurant with super attentive staff and even more amazing food. It's like a little calm environment in the middle of Bishop Arts where you can catch your breath, a margarita, and great Mexican food. On this visit, I had the Burracho Del Pueblo (the town drunk) which was a carne asada topped with a Gordita, onions, and a jalapeño. It also came with a cheese enchilada. It was tasty though I wish it was a thicker piece of meat. Otherwise, it was so good! Though be warned: that jalapeño was very spicy so be careful if you don't like spicy food. Now I have to compliment the Gordita- it reminded me of how my grandma makes them. I almost cried while eating it because of the memories it invoked. Finally, don't sleep on that cheese enchilada! We ended up splitting up a platter of quesadillas and chicken fajitas. The quesadillas - even without additional fillings - were actually a good size! I thought we'd skimp out based on my experience w/ this dish in restaurants in the past but it alone could be a good meal.
