Fresh and innovative Mexican food that still feels like it was homemade...now that's a real accomplishment. There are plenty of fresh Mex fancy places and there are plenty of traditional Mexican places but somehow the page manages to merge these to you in a way that's a bit hard to describe. I suppose the only way to really describe it is by the food itself which again will be difficult to verbally describe it just simply has to be tried. The amazing variety of tacos and other specialities is endless and sometimes it seems like the line is, as well. That said, they work hard in the kitchen to get those orders out and cooked well. Service can be a bit uneven and frenzied which is no surprise given that they tend to have these big rushes that are seemingly occurring at times when you would not expect there to be a bunch of people there. I suppose that's the price of being popular in the price of going to a place that not only attracts locals but also people from other parts of Orange County. The one thing to take it out that would just put the spice over the top would be some Aguas Frescas that does not come out of a machine. WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS PLACE??!! Went in last night for a quick bite. This place used to really have great food and solid customer service. Always a treat. Last night we walk in and it is COLD outside. Well, it was even colder inside. Every single ceiling fan was cranked to super high! It was crazy. And the door was open. If it is possible I think it was more chilly in Lupe's than outside. Everyone eating was wearing huge jackets and shivering! It was windy and downright uncomfortable. The staff which used to be a bit more nice is now just rude teens. They took our order and we sat. Tried to sit as far away from the speaker as possible as the music was blaring. I mean blasting. So we have the wind blowing and the music blaring. Dining area speaker was maxed out. Top it off the bathroom is for employees now so you have to walk next-door to use the restroom. Inconvenient. At least they have normal volume and no fans there. Oh and remember those craft sodas on tap? Kiss that goodbye! Coke is what you get, folks. Our food was small and subpar. The fish taco with the kids meal came with fish and cheese. When we asked for some veggies on it the manager said he would have to charge me for a small salad! For cabbage and pico? Are you nuts? No thanks. That is absurd and the wind and noise made us just eat fast and want to bail asap. No waiting around for a 'salad' aka fish taco toppings. All in all the guacamole and chips were the only good thing. We won't step into this place again. I would rather grab Del Taco and eat on the beach or at home. It is really sad when a smaller business hires a bunch of rude kids who don't know how to read the room. Just FYI, we don't want to freeze and listen to super loud music only to be served subpar food in a lack luster environment. The food can be hit or miss depending on location, the Aliso location is by far the best. We like the smoked tuna burrito and the carne aside burrito. The shrimp burrito was inedibly greasy, skip that one. Haven't had a lot of other options on the menu, but the staff is always helpful and food comes out quick. Five stars for service. Ambiance is nice, it's loud but always clean. Lots of issues with online ordering so I recommend calling in. Every time we order refried beans online we get black beans. Burritos at the Dana Point location are smaller than the Aliso one, and Aliso offers a cilantro crema at the salsa bar that's delicious. Dana Point doesn't even have that sauce. read more

Chose to stop by last second before going to the beach, and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I went during COVID and they were on top of the cleanliness. Tables were sanitized and cleaned after every customer. Masks enforced. Outdoor seating on a very nice platform patio they made. Food was incredibly delicious. Located in a non-descript mall with Albertsons, they had plenty of patio seating and a steady stream of customers picking up orders to go. The menu consisted of burritos, tacos, tostadas, quesadillas, and soups. The Oceanside Burrito caught my eye as it was loaded with seafood. Oceanside Burrito ($10.50) - This burrito came with generous amounts of smoked tuna, grilled mozzarella cheese, shrimp, octopus, cabbage, onion, cilantro, avocado, and white sauce. I could tell quality ingredients went into the burrito and really made it stand out taste wise. Freshly made chips accompanied the dish. The chips were light, crispy and tasted great with some house salsa. Red and green varieties are available here. Overall I really enjoyed my burrito here. It had plenty of fresh sea food and tasted great, especially when I added some salsa. The burrito was filling and the pricing was fair. We ordered the al pastor burrito, loaded fries with shrimp and steak, carne asada taco, shrimp fries and steak burrito and fried fish taco. Our food came out pretty quickly. I prefer the burritos over the tacos. I really liked that the burritos came with a side of tortilla chips. The shrimp and steak and fries burrito was really good and so were the loaded fries. I would skip on the al pastor and carne asada and skips their tacos and just get the burrito. The only thing is that the price is more expensive than other mexican places. This place always hits. We took ours down to crescent in laguna. I recommend traveling with it! The tacos are very warm and full of seasoning, but if that's not enough for you, there are 3 or 4 yummy types of sauce you can pour over. Lupe's in Dana Point is a must try. I've gone here so many time I've lost count. Hard to say what my favorites are but if I had to chose, it'd be their famous octopus and birria tacos. The octopus tacos have such a nice flavor because they have their secret sauce combined with the tenderness of the octopus. Plus the fried onions give it an even more flavorful taste. I've also tried their birria burrito which is huge! Love how the tortilla wrap is fried combined with cheese and of course the shredded meat makes my mouth water every time I think of it. I don't have pictures of the birria tacos, but I have 3-4 of them every time I come here. Don't forget to try their ceviche as well. I've had the combination ceviche that has fish, shrimp and octopus, but also have had shrimp, or fish by itself. You really can't go wrong. The staff are super friendly and the restaurant provides a combination of ways to eat in. One side has the main restaurant but next door is their bar and restaurant which is a cool idea to give you the options. It's Taco Tuesday! I wanted to try somewhere that we hadn't been before, and Lupe's popped up on my Yelp app. I checked their menu and it showed $3.80 per taco. I called to see what their Taco Tuesday special is, and they said $2.75 per taco. Sounded good to me! I called in my order to go, and by the time I arrived, it was ready. I will label this review: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. The Good: The Tacos. End of story. We ordered 2 al pastor, 1 surf & turf, 1 shrimp and 1 grilled fish. The al pastor is incredible. The meat is so flavorful. Add this to your order! The surf & turf was a bit bland, but the sauce and avocado added some flavor to it. The tortillas are also soft and delicious. My husband said the grilled fish and the shrimp tacos were tasty. The tacos are a decent size, and 3 tacos were enough for him (2 tacos for me). 5 stars for the tacos! The Bad: The service (staff) was average at best. There was no "welcome, thank you for coming". Instead, "take out order? What's your name?" Lol. Also, the salsa bar was very basic for a Mexican place - just 4 different types of salsas. And the salsa area was messy. The Ugly: I ordered guacamole with chips, and when I double-checked my bag, they forgot to put it in. Good thing I checked my bag! Be sure to double check your order before you leave. Also, a recent photo of their menu from 8 mo ago showed that the guac & chips cost $6.50. The girl on the phone confirmed that price, but when I got there they charged me $6.98. What's up with that?! It's bad enough they forgot my guac & chips, but now I feel ripped off. Parking is ample, as they're in a shopping plaza with shared parking. Im absolutely sick of Lupe's screwing up at least half of the orders I place with them. I've been going to this Lupe's for 4 years and they make so many mistakes. In addition their online ordering is a complete and total mess. I work in the restaurant technology space. I know they use Toast POS and they have screwed up the integration and implementation. I have told this to them in person, I have messaged them on Instagram and Facebook, I have emailed them, they 1000000000% do not care.
