    44. Pineapple Sweet & Sour Chicken
    Ryan B.

I used to eat at Ly Luck frequently when I worked in the neighborhood and was always incredibly fond of their BBQ Pork Fried Rice. It had been at least three, maybe four years since my last visit and I knew this was exactly where I wanted to go if I was in craving some Chinese. What I can immediately say is that the food is still as good as ever. I know a lot of people have been highlighting some noticeable changes with the food due to new ownership, but that will attest the food is as good as it was before. My wife and I ordered a pineapple and sweet and sour chicken accompanied by a beef chow mein to go and literally received it in less than 10 minutes upon placing my order through the phone. The employee that I spoke to said I could come right down and it would be ready in a couple minutes, and I honestly didn't believe her but to my surprise by the time we got to the store, which was in less than 10 minutes. It was already well packed, and ready to go. That in itself is an instant improvement from the previous ownership who typically would need at least 15 to 20 minutes. They were great, but this lightning fast turn around should not go unnoticed. A couple of things where I feel they can improve is the amount of chow mein in comparison to sweet-and-sour chicken is easily a 40% difference. It's not that I expected it to be stuffed but between two people that sweet-and-sour chicken felt like it was hardly there. It also literally only had like three pieces of pineapple in the entire thing so I don't know why they even mention that as part of the item. The beef chow mein however had a more than generous amount. It definitely felt like they were a bit stingy with the beef, but due to the amount of noodles that they included in instantly made up for it. Lastly, my wife was gonna pick up the order and she didn't appreciate how the employee who was serving her had her eyes glued to her hands to see if she would include a tip. My wife was going to tip anyway, but she didn't like how forced it felt due to the employee's surveillance. She did like the friendly nature from the employee as well as the atmosphere of the restaurant but helps the next time we stop by that awkwardness won't be present. As a result, this restaurant gets a 4/5. An important sidenote, you could order the food from their website, but it is cheaper to just do it over the phone.

I ordered to go and it was worth the wait. The food was fresh and the hot chili oil and soy sauce was delicious. I highly recommend this place. It is authentic.

Bang for buck! Good food done fast for a great price. My go to local spot for dinner when I'm lazy to cook and craving Chinese food. Where else can you pick 3 freshly made entrees from 69 options, all for less than $30?

*****Customer Experience During the COVID-19 Pandemic***** Ly Luck is open for takeout during the COVID-19 public health emergency. To support small businesses during these challenging times, I ordered some takeout here on 04/05/2020. I placed my 6-dish order when I left the house and it was ready when I arrived 20 minutes later. Everything was neatly packed and placed in a small cardboard box. The total was just $52.50. The lady who handled my order had a mask and gloves on. Social distancing reminder was posted near the cash register. Here's a quick breakdown on the food I got: Salt and Pepper Pork Chop - It was decent. The pork chops were crispy and meaty. It could have used a bit more seasoning and aromatics. Ginger and Scallion Chicken - Solid. The chicken was tender. It was topped with a good amount of ginger and scallions. Soy sauce provided the seasoning. Ginger and Green Onion Beef - Pretty good. It was more like green and white onion beef. I didn't taste much ginger in the dish. Instead, it was made with lots of green and white onions. Beef was tender. Ly Luck Beef Stew - Superb! The beef was braised to tender perfection. Portion was huge! Dry Fried String Beans - The beans were fresh and cooked just right. The ground pork topping added a savory dimension to the dish. Fish Fillet with Chinese Greens - Decent but saucy. I had to pour out some of the sauce. Fish fillet and greens were seasoned well. Overall, solid Chinese food. Please go support them! BONUS MATERIAL: - Major credit cards accepted.

The lobby is CLOSED to patrons so you'll have to get the food to go. There was a bunch of ppl sitting however congregating on the opposite side . The food was pricy for what we ordered. 2 soups 2 main courses. About $60 -Do Yourself a favor and Avoid the soup. I never imagined anyone could ruin soup for this, they win top prize. Both won ton and Hot & Sour soups horrible. -The other items were okay at best. I would return for many other items just exclude the soup ...

This is an authentic, delicious, and affordable Chinese restaurant. They have a menu you can choose from in the "3 dishes for $25" category you can order from for both lunch and dinner. I order take out every time I come home and visit. My favorite is the steamed queen clams over vermicelli noodles. The queen clams have a great texture and is cooked basically with hot oil, soy sauce, garlic, and green onions. My mom's favorite is the sautéed beef with veggies over rice. The beef is tender and they give ample veggies to go with the meat. In general, any dish you order from here will be really good and a sufficient portion size. Service is quick. The owner is really nice and gives us free soup whenever we dine in. Place is clean and there is never really a wait. Definitely recommend checking out if you are in the area!

This time, we ordered a few dishes to try - the classic sesame paste noodles, Shan Dong chicken, the fried rice with shrimp, and the hot spicy eggplant. Since we did order delivery on a busy Saturday night, it took a little over an hour for our food to arrive. The food was expertly packed and we were given plenty of utensils and napkins. The sesame paste noodles are one of my favorite dishes here, there's a balance of sweet and salty offered in the creamy sesame paste sauce that's so addicting. I've always been a big fan of the hand-pulled noodles which are thick, bouncy and chewy. The Shan Dong chicken is deep fried and coated in a delicious sauce. It is more of the sweeter side if you're looking for something that's spicy. I appreciate that we were given large pieces as well! The fried rice with shrimp is amazing - I love the crunch of the green onion, the softness of the fried egg, and the texture of the rice and veggies which weren't soggy and still held a nice bite. Last but not least, the hot spicy eggplant was a great choice because it's usually the trickier dish to cook as eggplant can turn really soft and mushy. I was delighted that with the way it was prepared, the large eggplant pieces still held a tender texture that did not fall apart. I also enjoyed the sauce that was paired with the eggplant, which is oyster-sauce based and added a pleasant sweetness as well. I'm always looking forward to my next visit and I love supporting Shan Dong!

Who cares though, because once you get your food, nothing else matters. The service is fast and efficient. The prices are super reasonable and portion sizes, generous. The noodles, dumplings and everything else we ordered was incredibly tasty and had that wok-infused flavor. This place is no frills and all taste. We ordered noodles, dumplings, some cold dishes and omitted egg in the veg dishes for the vegans. Everyone had something to eat and honestly for how much we ordered, it's tough to say there's anything you might not want to order. Just go with your gut! We came here after running the Oakland Marathon and left very happy and satisfied. (apologies for not being specific on what we ordered. I'll have to update later once I dig up the photos to post here.) Just come eat here, you'll be glad you did! My only gripe is that I don't live closer!!

They close super early, so get there in time for take out for dinner (I think they close at like 6?) Parking is an actual nightmare unless you're willing to pay or walk. But that's China Town for you. Service is fast and friendly. I like that they let me practice my Mandarin. It can feel a little crowded at times, but that's the price you pay for really good food.

Getting right to it, 4 stars because it's so affordable! However, there are some things I want to…read morepoint out that would actually make this spot more of a 3 star visit. 1. The attached parking garage charges $2/every half hour. Granted, this is no where near SF parking rates, it's still an additional fee. Street parking is super hard to find, and the streets are hectic, but you can test your luck (and patience). They use little tokens now that you have to pay for before exiting. Make sure you hold onto it because a lost token will run you $48 for the day rate. 2. The spot is poppin. It's not a complaint, that's a great thing! However it's really small inside so if there's a wait, you do have to line up in a single file line along a divider wall, where you can watch diners eat. Right next to you is the take out line for BBQ orders. It can get really claustrophobic. Tables do move fast as they're quick to bring out food, however you may be asked to just share a table with someone else. They have a couple round tables for the communal dining, or larger groups (up to 8). This is an ideal spot for 2-4 people. 6+ may cause you to wait longer for seating. 3. The tap water tastes kind of weird. They bring you a hot cup of tea too but the herbal taste is a bit too strong for me. 4. The bbq items are just okay :( I did a 3 item bbq combo with rice for about $21. You get a generous portion of meat, rice and a few pieces of steamed Chinese broccoli (gai lan). No sauce to dip or anything, but they do have a black bean sauce on the table to use. The sauce is pretty salty though, so just keep that in mind when you're adding it on. No spicy condiments on the table unfortunately. The duck was decent, but the bbq pork was a bit too lean for me. It wasn't overly sweet though so that was nice. The roast pork wasn't crunchy at all!! For some reason, they thin sliced it, instead of cut it into cubes. I love roast pork for the crunch so this was disappointing. The skin was more chewy than crunchy. All of the meats were tender though! 5. Fresh shrimp rice roll was hot and steamy and the price is cheaper than some dim sum spots ($7.50 for this one i think). However, you also get less shrimp. The sauce poured on was also kinda thin, and not sweet or umami enough. The rice roll itself had a good chew though, silky but a little thick. It holds up well while eating. The proportion go shrimp to rice noodle is waaaay off though. 6. Wonton noodle soup was good! This seemed like the crowd favorite as most everyone ordered this. The noodle could have had a bit more chew to it, but the wontons were bouncy and the broth comforting. You get a couple pieces of chinese broccoli with this too which is nice. The service was efficient and our main server was nice. She spoke english and actually smiled back. They take card payment too, so that's convenient. You really get some bang for your buck here, but I'd probably stick to taking food to go.
