I'm sure the food here is good. The service was fine. The ambience was street and kitchen. Been awhile but my family wanted something different so I suggested this place.

    Black Bean Pepper Beef, takeout

3537 Fruitvale Ave Oakland, CA 94602 I was in the area, and dropped by for some takeout. I ordered Black Bean Pepper Beef and Salted Fish Chicken Fried Rice. Salted what? Salted Fish Chicken Fried Rice. If you like it, you love it, and will want to order it. I like the way Ly Luck makes it, and they give a big generous serving. Black Bean Pepper Beef is bite sized pieces of beef with a balance of peppers and onions in black bean sauce. Very well seasoned, big serving. Good amount of gravy to go with my rice. Eat it Chinese style and enjoy a nice meal from Ly Luck.

I used to eat at Ly Luck frequently when I worked in the neighborhood and was always incredibly fond of their BBQ Pork Fried Rice. It had been at least three, maybe four years since my last visit and I knew this was exactly where I wanted to go if I was in craving some Chinese. What I can immediately say is that the food is still as good as ever. I know a lot of people have been highlighting some noticeable changes with the food due to new ownership, but that will attest the food is as good as it was before. My wife and I ordered a pineapple and sweet and sour chicken accompanied by a beef chow mein to go and literally received it in less than 10 minutes upon placing my order through the phone. The employee that I spoke to said I could come right down and it would be ready in a couple minutes, and I honestly didn't believe her but to my surprise by the time we got to the store, which was in less than 10 minutes. It was already well packed, and ready to go. That in itself is an instant improvement from the previous ownership who typically would need at least 15 to 20 minutes. They were great, but this lightning fast turn around should not go unnoticed. A couple of things where I feel they can improve is the amount of chow mein in comparison to sweet-and-sour chicken is easily a 40% difference. It's not that I expected it to be stuffed but between two people that sweet-and-sour chicken felt like it was hardly there. It also literally only had like three pieces of pineapple in the entire thing so I don't know why they even mention that as part of the item. The beef chow mein however had a more than generous amount. It definitely felt like they were a bit stingy with the beef, but due to the amount of noodles that they included in instantly made up for it. Lastly, my wife was gonna pick up the order and she didn't appreciate how the employee who was serving her had her eyes glued to her hands to see if she would include a tip. My wife was going to tip anyway, but she didn't like how forced it felt due to the employee's surveillance. She did like the friendly nature from the employee as well as the atmosphere of the restaurant but helps the next time we stop by that awkwardness won't be present. As a result, this restaurant gets a 4/5. An important sidenote, you could order the food from their website, but it is cheaper to just do it over the phone.

I ordered to go and it was worth the wait. The food was fresh and the hot chili oil and soy sauce was delicious. I highly recommend this place. It is authentic.

Bang for buck! Good food done fast for a great price. My go to local spot for dinner when I'm lazy to cook and craving Chinese food. Where else can you pick 3 freshly made entrees from 69 options, all for less than $30?

And yet, the crowds keep on lining up to dine here. One of their highlight dishes was the Sesame Paste Noodles, made of super chewy noodles mixed with spinach and a deliciously creamy, slightly sweet sesame paste. Another must-try dish was the Special Shan Dong Dumplings, a thick-skinned dumpling filled with minced pork and vegetables. We also tried the House Special Pancake Stuffed with Leeks, a set of three pan-fried pies with a filling of chives, vermicelli, egg, and woodear mushrooms; the Dry Braised Green Beans, stir-fried with black beans and preserved vegetables; the Sautéed On-Choy; and Sliced Fish with zucchini, woodear mushrooms, peas, and carrots in a mild sauce. Overall, the dishes here came in generous portions at decent prices and made for a delicious, balanced meal. The vibe might be loud and the service rude, but the food was worth a visit!

Definitely very filling. Chicken is very tender and juicy. Don't be afraid of the pink or red in the bone, it's myoglobin and still safe to eat. Roast Duck 4.5/5 It's nicely roasted, tender and juicy. The sauce is very flavorful and tasty. Ambience 4/5 Very quick and casual small dining area. It does get loud when packed but that is just the nature of chinatown. Also means the food is very good. When we first walked in, no other diners were there which made me a little suspicious. We were promptly seated and offered hot tea though so we were locked in. I initially ordered to seafood claypot but was told it takes 45 minutes...so pivoted to chicken wonton soup (no noodles). My partner got kung pao chicken. while we waited for our food, a handful of people came in to pick up their to go orders, which made me feel better. Another party eventually dined in as well. Fyi the interior isn't much to write home about but comfortable. Then the food came. My soup was freaking delicious! Loads of chicken meat (just chopped up with the bones so be careful for shards), plenty of dumplings, and the broth was sooo good! I couldn't finish and took some left overs home; the next day, my soup coagulated (full of collagen)!! Partner enjoyed their kung Pao chicken but said they'd order something else next time. Best part - our meals + tax came out to less than $40! Gawd I love Chinatown!

With that said although Yu Yu is located in a pretty sketch area of Oakland/Berkeley, I would still recommend eating here just for its authenticity. They seem to have a parking lot in the back but we manage to find street parking in the front. You're better off looking for parking in the back than the front due to limited spaces. As for the food it was delicious. For the jajangmyeon you are given the noodles separately from the sauce; this allows you to pour in as much or as little as you want. I personally felt their flavors were mild enough that I poured in the whole thing. As for the tang su yook, it comes with a sweet and sour sauce that's bomb dot com. Even as stuffed as I was with the jajangmyeon, I managed to still find it in myself to finish the last bits of the tang su yook. Highly recommend. The restaurant itself seems to be newly renovated; don't let the rough exterior fool you. The inside was nice and clean but they only have room for four large tables that can fit a parties of 6, and the rest range from parties of 2-4. Last but not least service, they seem to run lean and understaffed but the gentlemen working did his best. Just be mindful if you come at a busy time you may have to wait. Overall looking forward to coming back here!
