Lyla is a coastal italian restaurant in Dallas that is well known for its picturesque aesthetics. The ambiance lived up to the hype and was perfect for a date night or evening gathering with friends. Overall, I thought the food was good but not great. We enjoyed the whipped egg plant as an appetizer then split the spaghetti bolognese and the truffle pepperoni pizza. I thought the pizza was great but that the pasta was ok. The service here was also just ok. Overall, I enjoyed going to Lyla but am not going to be quick to return. read more

We came by for a light lunch and ordered the: Lobster Cannolini & Margarita Pizza The Pasta was very uninspired, lacking any real amount of Lobster, and the $30 price tag? 10 Bucks per piece of pasta... The Margarita Pizza seemed frozen? Hard to tell. The strange thing is that apparently they serve it with a plate of Eggs? Very confusing. They then attempted to charge us for the eggs, but removed the item from our ticket when questioned. Starting off the rating of the food , it was all freshly made very good!, however the portions didn't fit the cost at all. I also had the grilled shrimp in which I devoured before taking a picture.. We made a reservation for Saturday night and were promptly seated. Our waiter was attentive. The atmosphere very nice and cozy. However, the most important part of all, our food, left a lot to be desired. There were 4 of us and we ordered the brussel sprouts, which were a little salty but good. The pepperoni pizza that was ok, and two pastas: -papardelli short rib that had no flavor, very little short rib and was very greasy -shrimp capellini that was swimming in oil. It supposed to be creamy lemon butter but it was pure butter. For such a beautiful place, the food should definitely be up to par. read more

Very frustrating, underwhelming, and disappointing experience at Lyla tonight. We were excited to try multiple items on the menu but were given preset menus for Valentine's Day (we did get a text 3 days before but assumed main menu would still be available, too late to find a res at another nice restaurant anyway). We were also seated outside even though we specifically reserved inside dining (apparently inside is "first come first serve"). The kicker of this was that the items on the preset $65 menu were some of the cheapest dishes picked from the main menu, and totaled at most $46 if ordered on any other day (but maybe the complementary store-bought cupcake given to us at the end of dinner was worth almost $20). We sat in cramped tables outside and received average service. The only pleasure of the evening was laughing at this whole experience with my partner as we were so incredulous an "upscale" restaurant could provide such a poor experience. We came to Lyla to celebrate my friend's birthday. The place was packed and our server, Abram, took excellent care of us - thank you Abram! And shout out to the bartender Jose for taking care of us while we waited. We were a party of 10 and not once did he make us feel uncomfortable because of our party size. I went to brunch here with my girlies and it did not disappoint! Usually when we go to brunch and the place is cute, we get disappointed by the food , but the food here was pretty good! The Spicy Orecchiette was very flavorful and spicy. Probably one of my favorite spicy vodka pastas I've had to date. The truffle carbonara was pretty good as well, but on the cheesier side, so for those of you who are lactose intolerant, I recommend bringing some lactaid! To start, they have a very limited menu so your options are basically, pasta, pizza, or an entree. The portions are small and honestly the flavors were just okay. Nothing that really wowed me or makes me say I want to come back. My friends who all ordered different dishes felt the same. It's all overpriced and mediocre tasting. The only thing that received rave reviews from the group was for the Salmon. Which I probably should've gotten instead. I got the Carbonara pasta (was okay and more flavorful than the one my friend got) my friend got the Spicy Orechiette pasta (pasta was over cooked and lukewarm, no flavor literally tasted like tomato sauce only). Went here for a friends birthday. Service/staff was friendly and professional but very slow. Started with the Brussel sprouts and truffle fries, probably best part of the meal. Entrees were fine. I got the beet salad and it was really just beets, no lettuce and very very small amounts of cheese and maybe one piece of citrus. Pizza was good. From the ambience to the customer service upon entry to the server to the food to the drinks, 10 out of 10! I highly recommend this place for girls night date night or business meeting. I had to change my reservation and the hostess was so sweet so accommodating and that's rare to find. Our waitress Kelis was beautiful, sweet and personable She definitely made the night out that much better. Summary of the dishes: The Rock shrimp linguine and the crispy rice tuna were pretty good. Branzino- absolutely get this if you like Branzino Steak- good, you can't go wrong with steak. Jidori chicken thighs- do not order this. I have never in my life had dry chicken thighs. Do you know how hard it is to dry out dark meat? Ambience is amazing. We went for a date night but previously made a reservation (which I highly recommend because it gets packed fast). We had a really great waiter and really informed us about the menu. We ordered some oysters, truffle fries, truffle pepperoni pizza and spicy orecchiette for food. All which were really good! This is a gorgeous restaurant from both the exterior and within. Upon arriving there is a space to take a lovely picture, and the hosts are front and center to greet you. Cuisine wise the sweet gem caesar, spicy orecchiette and the truffle fries were our faves. Other notable dishes were the whipped eggplant and truffle carbonara. My experience was just okay. The food was decent but not something I would come back for. I ordered the spicy orecchiette with a side of chicken. The pasta was pretty fresh, but the sauce needed more salt. The chicken was bland and dry for my taste. My friend ordered the lobster linguine. The lobster was perfectly cooked! The only downside was it was a little messy trying to get the lobster out the shell and eat the pasta. Now for the ambiance this place gets 5/5. The inside was beautiful decorated for Christmas. I would return for pre- or post-dinner drinks. Everyone we encountered was very polite and welcoming. Our waiter gave us very honest reviews of the food and offered a few suggestions. My friend and I had a reservation for two on New Year's Eve. I want to start by saying that we genuinely enjoyed our cocktails and dinner, the food and drinks were good. However, the overall experience fell short. When we arrived and let the hostesses know about our reservation, it felt like we were inconveniencing them. All three stood looking at each other for a moment before checking us in, which set an uncomfortable tone right away. Once seated, we were told we had a strict 90-minute time limit. While ordering, we noticed a half-off bottle of wine special on Wednesdays and asked about it, only to be told it wasn't available. Instead, we were offered a $45 per-person unlimited drink option for the 90 minutes, which didn't feel worth it for us. The most frustrating part came at the end. When we received the bill, both of us were charged a "delivery fee." When we asked about it, we were told it was essentially gratuity because it was a busy night and that the restaurant adds it automatically. This was never mentioned at check-in, when we were seated, or by our server, which felt misleading. It's a very cute place with good food, but the lack of communication and overall service made the experience disappointing. read more

I got lyla delivered and visited lyla couple months ago for happy hour so this was their dinner menu. I got the two most expensive pizzas on their dinner menu u and i must say.... Disappointed!! I had the Margherita pizza for their happy hour which was also not the best compared to other restaurants like pizzana and leela's but it was good. These two were okay, i reheated it to make sure i tasted it fresh and hot but all i saw was alot of oil/grease - something i would see from dominos or pizzahut. And for paying $50 for two pizzas before tax, tip & delivery fees - heavily disappointed. The ricotta, short rib meat and truffle oil were barely there. Cant talk about ambiance and service on this post as it was delivered but i might not give this place another shot unless it's different items from the menu. read more

Visited Lyla for dinner on a Sunday night and thoroughly enjoyed our experience! Ambiance - the interior of the restaurant is stunning. The variety of lighting is beautiful and the natural trees throughout the restaurant make you feel like you're in a whole new city. Perfect place for a date night or girls night out on the town! Service - we made a reservation in advance and were seated very quickly. Our server was very nice and helpful in picking out/coursing our dishes. The only service hiccup I noticed was that we weren't given new utensils after our appetizers and the mains did not come with any serving utensils, so we had to use our dirty utensils to serve ourselves (only a minor issue since we were sharing dishes). Food: Drink - Santorini Sunset - not too sweet! If you love passion fruit then I would give it a try! Apps - Roasted Cauliflower and Burrata - highly recommend the cauliflower! Salty but delicious. We also liked the Burrata, but felt that it had a smoky taste that I'm personally not too keen on. Mains - Spicy Orecchiette Pasta, Fig Arugula Pizza, Potato Puree - all the mains were delicious. I felt that the pasta could have been spicier, but it still had a great flavor! Dessert - Hazelnut Chocolate Cake - we felt that the cake was extremely dry. I don't know if we came on an off night, but the steak and potato purée- not good like I understand the potato purée is made with fresh garlic, but that shouldn't be the only thing I taste. IT WAS HEAVY GARLIC. I truly thought something was wrong lol the steak wasn't really seasoned, but was tender, we were surprised. Also, if you plan to go for dinner there will be a wait for bathrooms. I mean 2 bathrooms for an entire restaurant is wild. The third one was for employees, but they told me to use it And maybe there are other bathrooms I wasn't aware of, but our server wasn't to be found to ask. The ambiance of this place is on point. There's a patio area facing McKinney and an exclusive lounge area in the back that seats up to twelve. Th main dining area is well decorated. At first glance, the place seems to be staffed very well. However, there seems to be growing pains as a member of the wait staff cut me off on my walk to the restroom and the manager reminded him customers first. Our biggest angst was that our waiter took the order for my main, and then walked away. My buddy never got to order. I was able to make eye contact with who I imagine is the manager after a few minutes and he took the order. Funny thing, the order that was not initially taken was the first one out. Didn't quite make sense. Food, hit and miss. I recommend the garlic shrimp, beet salad, broccolini and the olive cake. All were very good! Now the rest, unimpressive, mediocre at best. The salmon was not cooked fully in my opinion as it looked like a piece of sushi on the inside middle. The lamb chops were more red than preferred. Neither dish was going to amaze though. I have been to Lyla 3 times now. The portion sizes are very small compared to the high prices, food is inconsistent (sometimes my food has been great, other times super salty). The service is great. The aura of the restaurant is also awesome. If you're looking for a vibey dinner, this is a great place, but if you're looking for a great meal, there is definitely better in Dallas. For dinner I had the spicy pasta (I forgot the exact name but it says the word "spicy" in the dish) - it was PERFECT! I got the Lyla (drink) and it was right up my alley. Cute new spot in downtown. The ambiance is very lively with really cute lighting and plants all around. The music was a little too loud and I found it hard to talk. The seating was kind of odd on the high tops. The seats were too low and the tables were too high so it was kind of awkward. Food wise we started with the whipped eggplant, it was super tasty and the pita came out fresh. The fig and arugula pizza was good, the fig pieces are tiny though. I personally loved the spicy orcchiette pasta however others at the table didn't think it was as unique. Food portions were good and very filling. Cost wise it was definitely on the pricier end for food that was alright. Overall, the vibe of the restaurant is really fun but it seems more of a drinks place rather than a nice sit down restaurant.
