I gotta say. I havent been here a while and was excited to be back. Wait was "35" min but it was more like 15. Order time was avg but felt like the food came out maybe 25-30 mins after ordering. Might be the norm but the 3 stars wasnt because of that. I got their red snapper cajun style. Im not a big complainer. However the fish was definitely neglected. The cajun was very light to non existent. The worst part was that itwas burnt on the bottom side. Shouldve gone w the ribeye. Guess ill hope for the best next time. read more

Not the best meal my wife and I have had. The waitress not friendly, we got our drinks after the soup and all she gave us was water,which my wife ordered iced tea, and then my jack and coke no water for me. The food came as it says soup then salad then main entree. Food was good in all courses but my wife ordered med rare unfortunately its was barely cooked so she only ate a small portion that was more cooked than the rest of the meat. Yes it's a loud place so wasn't surprised at that but the waitress never offered anything to take care uncooked meat or forgetting our drinks. We were not offered condiments for our entree and they brought horseradish, which my wife if highly allergic to. No where on the menu does it state horseradish comes with prime rib entree. Very dissatisfied even after hearing good things about this place we rated a 1 and won't return.one good note it is priced reasonably only accepts cash. Has ATM on site. So I have been going to Mac's since I was a small child. It has been a family favorite and I could live off of their soup... until last night... My husband and I sat to dine last night and I took the waitress over 20 minutes to take our drink order, when we told her that we were also ready to order; she acted like I just asked to drink the blood of a child. It was busy and she seemed overwhelmed so I shrugged it off. Got our soup bread and salad with drinks and dinner was starting to look up! When we received our meal everything looked great I started to dig into my delicious vegetables. When I had almost finished them; that is when I saw it! There was a dead fly (not in my soup thank god that would have shaken me to my core) but in my freaking vegetables! I of course freaked; my husband made a comment about "eat around it". I pushed my plate away and called it a night. When I alerted my waitress she gagged; apologized and removed the plate. I mean I get it, sometimes this happens but the only reason I left a 2 star review is because the waitress still charged me for a part of my meal! She charged me for my soup and salad which I think was inappropriate. Delicious food, unbeatable prices for steak , cheap full bar and family style! Every time we go on a boat trip and we're nearby Mac's I just salivate and get excited about stopping by for dinner. My boyfriend introduced me to this spot. It's not the best quality steak but the meal, the sides and the cheap drinks are absolutely worth the wait. I always get the ribeye served rare and it's about 10oz. It comes with bread, salad, soup and pasta. A complete meal that will satisfy! The prime rib is also popular here. You get what you pay for. And this is not a bad deal! One thing to keep in mind- CASH ONLY!!! Honestly, for those who complain that Macs Old House is not good, c'mon for $10, it's good. This was my 3rd time here, the last time I came it was about 8 years ago, and nothing's changed. Same decor, same crowd, same old Antioch! hehe Yup, it's a typical hole-in-the-wall biker hang out, a lot of locals, a lot of senior citizens, but the people are friendly enough and the food is decent for what you pay for. We ordered the prime rib, cuz that's what they're known for. And given it's not the best prime rib I've ever had...really, for those who said that it's the "BEST" c'mon...really??? BUT it is edible and tasty to say the least. It comes with a minestrone soup that's more like Chili as it's so thick but you get a big bowl to have about 4 bowls full between 2 people (or mixed green salad), warn sesame seed bread, the entree comes with about 6-7 oz thin sliced prime rib (with super raw kick your ass horseradish...if you want aju sauce-ask, they have it), mixed veggies (which were pretty tasty), rigatoni with tomato sauce and pretty good service. We came here on a Friday afternoon, so it wasn't super busy, so maybe the service was better at this time than at peak hours such as dinner on the weekends, but we were satisfied with our service. Overall, not bad! 5 of us ate here for a total of $60 (which included a few beers and fountain drinks)..... Hmmm...Considering the high ratings from everyone I was really expecting something great. Maybe it was an off night. When we walked in, we were ignored by the bartender and most waitstaff...long enough to feel very uncomfortable and ackward...some sort of acknowledgement would have been nice and really not that complicated, at all. We were eventually seated in a dark room that made me nervous of how dirty this place could be. We ordered Prime Rib, Snapper Cajun style, grilled Chicken and a Calamari Steak. The ribeye that I ordered medium rare? Well, it was probably closer to well done and it was so goddamn tough I thought maybe they were trying to make beef jerky out of it. It's ridiculous! Seriously, this place is worth a try - even though I'm not going to say it's the best prime rib I've ever had, like some... I will say it's very good. And for the price, well, that's what would make it the "best". There are deals you can find online, plus I believe they have a restaurant.com coupon. But even without it, you get soup, salad, bread, pasta, and veggies for a small price. The only thing cheaper than the menu (which is more or less a pre fixe, I'm sure that's how they keep prices down) - is the bar!! Single, double, and triple pour drinks are next to nothing. There can be a wait depending on the day and time you go - but wait with drink in hand on the porch out front... it won't kill you to socialize for a little bit. Once you're seated inside (no outdoor seating unfortunately), you get used to the somewhat dimly lit, crowded dining area. Even the walk to the restrooms seems "crowded" but maybe that's the way to stay in business when you aren't charging an arm and a leg. "Cram us in!" I say. (It's actually not that bad except at peak hours when people clog the entrance/bar area since there really is no waiting area inside). Even their custom "Mac's" napkins impress me. And we' ve had good service everytime except once. So overall I compliment the servers. You have to ask for au jus - unless you bring your own in a thermos. Like me. (What?! It's not weird. TLDR: This place is basically the backwards, Bizarro-Land version of the late Bertola's. Also, I mention Bertola's like 4,000 times in this review. Deal with it. I'd like to first start off by saying that the two stars here are not at all based on service or the setting of the restaurant. In regards to both of those, they were fantastic. Service was fairly frequent and for the most part on point, and the inside (while dated and with a nasty carpet/tables) had tons of sports memorabilia on the walls. Being a life long San Francisco 49ers fan, I was loving the SF jerseys and Joe Montana signed pictures all over the place. In terms of food, this is where the review falls sharply. First off, I was very happy to hear that this place was apparently a clone of Bertola's in Martinez (which is now shut down, sadly), and while the menu seemed to somewhat mirror the offerings that Bertola's had, that is where the similarities end. The soup was like a poor man's version of the classic Bertola's soup, but was still fairly decent. The bread was dead on though, so there is one plus that I can take away from my evening here. Sadly though, the salad was not nearly up to snuff. The classic Italian dressing that I once loved on these little salads was somehow ruined by a handful of salt that was for some reason put over the salads themselves. A little goes a very long way, and they apparently decided that little bit was just simply not enough, so they turned the salt meter up to 11 (Spinal Tap anyone?!) I ordered the pasta dinner, which I was excited about as Bertola's pasta dinner was always an epic amount of pasta covered in their meat sauce, from end to end. I was greatly annoyed when I received my plate which consisted of mostly noodles and about half of a scoop of their barely passable meat sauce right in the middle. Had this been an episode of Restaurant Impossible, Chef Robert would have had a field day with the amount of "sauce water". My mother and wife both ordered rib eyes, and both were definitely sub-par. My mother ordered her steak cooked medium, and it came out totally charred and the cook had attempted to hide this by covering it in some sort of gravy. The waitress was fantastic though, and brought her out a new steak without any argument. My wife ordered her steak medium rare, and not only was it rubbery and hard to cut/chew, it was completely unseasoned. This was pretty unacceptable to be absolutely frank. In the end, this a very crude and shameless knockoff of the legendary Bertola's, but I guess beggars can't be choosers. However, we CAN choose to never come here again, and I think that is the route to take for me! read more

really?? Ok, this place gets great reviews from everyone and I was not expecting much based on the pricing. I love a great cheap place out, but this night they failed totally, I mean totally. The food is the right value for what you are spending. Soup, Salad, Pasta, Veggie and a 1/2 Rib Eye for $10.95. Problem was, not any of it was really edible in my view, I have no idea who was cooking, but I have never eaten anything with so much salt in/on it. Was up in northern California for work and stayed with some friends in Antioch. They told me that this was *the* place to go eat in town and wanted to take me there. I looked at the Yelp reviews and saw prime rib so I was in! The place was moderately busy, but if the food is good, no worries. After a short wait we were seated. Service was a bit slow (the reason for 4 stars instead of 5), but once we ordered things picked up. The place is older and quaint, but I was there for the food, not the decor. The menu is simple, but not to be underestimated. All orders get minestrone soup and a delicious sesame seed-topped French bread served family style after you order. They are both delicious. After the soup and bread, you receive a small spring mix salad tossed in vinegar and oil with a slice of salami on it. When the entrees come out they are accompanied by a penne pasta with marinara sauce and vegetable medley. Both are very tasty. I ordered the extra cut prime rib and it was delicious. My friends ordered the calamari steaks and ground round patty. They both loved theirs. The prices are simply amazing for the quality and I don't see how anybody could leave here hungry. I love this place but need to mention how incredibly rude I was treated by Kelly Jean. I came in the place looked really busy as usual outside but inside it 2 people at the bar and a couple tables available. I waited for a few minutes to see if I could see how long the wait was. I see Kelly Jean setting a table so I said excuse me. I wasn't sure if she heard me but under her breath no eye contact she rudely said I will be with you in a minute. I said I'm just trying to see if it is along wait she then said yelling I will be with you in a minute. Never once looked at me. Then I waited and she finally came over and said name how many I said do you know how long the wait is and she said I can't tell you that like I was crazy. I said just a guess she said no how will I know that? I almost walked out but I love it here so much but she is the rudest person I have ever met. She would set a table and sit down. Finally my name came up and she literally just sat on her stool and pointed at our table.
