About once a month I come I love the food. The services in the dining room is wonderful. The bar tender is unfriendly and rude.

We love this place. The service might not always be on point with on the dinning floor, but the bar and price makes up for it. You cant find a cheaper single, double, or triple in town. The menu is limited, but its very good. I personnel go for the extra cut prime rib or a rib-eye. i ask for medium rare and it normally is about a medium (which is what I'm actually going for). My fiance gets the casian style calamari (she gets this every time). If you have a large party be prepared to wait close to 2 hours before being seated. read more

I use to love Macs. A couple of friends took me to an early birthday dinner there tonight. We were asked to leave so someone else could sit down. We downed our drinks and left. I have never been asked to leave a restaurant, ever, so someone else could have my seat. I will never eat there again! I've never left bad reviews. In fact if I ever receive bad service I simply don't go back. I have lived in the area or neighboring cities since I was 12. My parents have been talking us to Mac's Old House that long. Yesterday was their 50th wedding anniversary. My parents have moved out of the area and made an hour and 20 min drive out here because they wanted to go to their favorite restaurant. There were 6 adults and 1 seven year old child. We ordered six meals for dine in and 2 orders of soup and bread to go. I had my grandson who just won't eat a full adult meal and rarely eats meat. I stopped at Mc Donald's and bought him a happy meal. He ate most of it on the porch prior to us being seated. The waitress took our order and noticed the box of nuggets on the table. She said "nothing for him looks like he already has something."She walked away. She returned 10 min later looked and spoke directly at the child and said " you can't bring Mc Donald's in here." I quickly grabbed the empty nugget box and put It in the box placing it under the table. I over looked the drink cup he still had on the table, since we had several cups and condiments. The waitress came back eyeing the table for any food. There was not. 2 min later a younger girl with 2 other waitresses came to the table loudly and rudely said, "you can't bring anything in here. Give me that kids cup" I reached over and grabbed the drink and said no I can take it and dispose of it myself. I walked outside and disposed it. At that point we should of left. We had already been served the soup and I just didn't want to ruin my parents day. I got up with my dad to get a drink at the bar. The so called manager that had rudely spoken to us gave us the beers we ordered.still speaking to us in a condescending tone. We went back to our table and set our drinks down. My dads beer was at end of table directly in front of my sister-n-law. The tables are small and his plate was covering the area in front of him. The manager lady who had been rude to us twice comes back to the table and says rudely, "can I see your ID, to my sister n law, because you have a beer directly in front of you." Of course she quickly reached in to her purse and handed her the ID. Even though the beer wasn't hers. She's 27 so I understand under 30. But I asked, if it's a problem to set down a beer at the table then why didn't they just card the whole table before selling it to us at the bar. Her response was "well I'm doing it now" Skeptical about even eating the food we finished our meal. The tab was $168. 70. We paid the bill $170 in cash and got up to leave. I've never not left at least a 25% tip, but after all the rudeness, it wasn't deserved. As I reached the door to exit the waitress yells out "oh, here is your change, you obviously need it more than I do." I immediately responded if the staff wasn't so rude and provided shitty service, you would of gotten a very large tip, let that be one for you! The food wasn't great anymore, and the service just not friendly. The whole child's meal issue they could of just said it politely and said hey you missed the drink and it wouldn't of been such a rude experience. read more

If you're looking for an iconic hidden gem that all the locals go to, then this is it. A simple lunch and dinner menu, but really good and filling! Oh, and the cheapest drinks around. Let me say that my husband and I recently ate at another Prime Rib place on the way to Los Angeles and their prime rib and the way it was cooked did not compare to Mac's Old House! Today we ordered the extra thick cut prime rib and it was great!!!! Thank you Mac's Old House for consistently serving great food!! Went to Macs for lunch for my husbands birthday on a Tuesday. Place was half empty when we arrived and pretty full when we left. Pros: the minestrone soup was AHHHHMMMMAZZZING! Next time I will come for soup alone and nothing else. It was awesome. The service was also decent but waitress was a bit too busy for things to move quickly. The atmosphere was definitely old and a dive bar. Dark and old but clean enough. Not elegant or romantic but a cozy antique atmosphere. Cons: we each ordered the extra cut prime rib. It was so tough I found it difficult to chew. I ordered rare which usually has a cold red center or at least a red center but mine came medium well. It was just way to cooked for me and I just couldn't gulp it down. The waitress even said here is your rare prime rib when she put it down so either she doesn't know what rare is or doesn't care. I saw others in the restaurant with nice rare steaks so they can do it. I just don't appreciate that I was expected to eat it. Half the steak was like jerky. It was burnt and hard. Next time I will try the fish and I looooooove steak. I was very bummed. My husband liked his but he likes everything. Go for soup but not for prime rib. read more

Came here with a good friend of mine about a month ago. I've been wanting to come for a while, but it's a cash only place and Mac's gets overcrowded very easily. I tried coming once at 4p but they don't open until 5p or something like that, and I wasn't willing to wait, luckily I got a chance to check out the hype recently. It was worth the wait, the food is inexpensive but so tasty and the drinks are a steal. We had about 6 cocktails between the both of us and it rang up to about 30 dollars, which is NOTHING. I love coming here when I feel like eating a home cooked meal but don't feel like cooking it. Great amount of food for the price and also tastes good. Only bad part would be it's a hit or miss on service some nights are better than others when it comes to wait time before and after you get seated. Soo Delicious! I ordered the ribeye steak dinner which comes with endless minestrone soup (sooo yummy), bread, sauteed veggies, and pasta. It's cash only but they do have an atm machine inside. Also, you really can't beat their drink prices. I love this place! read more

Disgusting and trashy food. Anyone raving about the food, for anything other than the price, can not be trusted. This food made our entire group sick, and I'm disappointed in us for even trying the little we did considering how bad it both looked and smelled. Decided to give this place another try as I have had good and bad experiences. Ordered the prime rib, this has to be the worst I've ever had. It looked like it was yesterday's leftovers. Tough, flavorless, fatty. It was BAD. But to make matters worse, bad service. Our server never came back to check on us, I asked for more bread (twice) which she brought when we were done with our food, then brought the bill (on dirty tray) and place it right on top of the bread. So then I asked why would she do that, that tray is unsanitary, she it no big deal, but to us it was a big deal. I personally don't like dirty things on my food. Things got heated between us. Then the manager comes and without asking us what happened, he asked us to pay the bill and leave. We told him no problem, (by this time, we're done and ready to leave) but first he had to hear our side of the story. Basically he said we can't disrespect his employee, I said im sorry but she's the one who needs to learn to respect customers and not shout at us. What a way to treat paying customers. I love this place. You can have a grown up drink with your family and kids. The kids get awesome Shirley temples too. They treat you like family and the food is delicious. We are so happy to live in the neighborhood. We actually talk about moving and the first thing we think about is not to leave this place. I absolutely love this old Victorian house where you can hang out in front while waiting to be seated. Awesome. The price is also not to shabby. Last evening after stopping by there to have supper to celebrate the signing for our new home. I thought I'd give the place a second chance since I didn't care for their food the last time we were there. We were both VERY disappointed and won't be returning EVER. We waited for almost a half hour before a waitress even acknowledge our presence. It also took a half hour at least to get our soup. Once we got the soup it was cold. I almost had to spit my salad due to pure brine dressing (and I'm a salt lover). The pasta sauce looked and tasted burned to me (couldn't eat it), and the veggies were mush literally like soup . The waitress couldn't even get our steak orders right, so we had tough steaks. Yeah, people say "I would've sent it back!" BUT we weren't going to wait another hour for a replacement steak. No way. And the parking is down right horrible and dangerous. If you cherish your car, don't take it there. I think it is safe to say we WILL NOT be returning. I gave it two chances and those who like the place can have it. I guess I'm too much of a cook and love flavor with my food. read more
