We had a great lunch experience here yesterday. The food was plentiful and fresh, loaded with chunks of fresh vegetables. Also, the portions were generous and satisfying. We started with the soups. BF had the tomato soup, which was mildly spiced. I had the rasam, a fiery hot soup with fresh veggies. We shared the appetizer of steamed idlis with sambar and chutneys. Again, the sambar had many fresh vegetables. The chutneys were rich and tasty, and the idlis were soft and delicious. For the main course, I had the bisi bele bath, which was firm, which is my preference for this dish. It was full of crunchy nuts and veggies. BF had the bhind masala, which had just the right balance of seasoning and fresh vegetables. We also shared some Ajwain seed bread, which had a generous amount of the seeds yielding this unique taste. The restaurant itself was clean and inviting. They are taking the proper COVID precautions by waving the thermometer over our foreheads upon our entrance, and by not offering physical menus -- instead, they have a card on the table with a QR code that you scan to see the online menu. Loved this stop en route to Savannah from Bowling Green. Felt refreshed with decent madras coffee. The masala tea was really good. Bangalore masala dosa was amazing, it has two dosas in one plate! I tried plain masala dosa and that was average. Poori masala was ok. The Sambhar tastes a bit like rasam, but still tasty. Chutneys were average. Mulaku bhaji was ok. My toddler loved the cone dosa. When we went the server made us sat on a table where there's no light then we asked for a different table she said she will check with the manager and let us know and never turned back. Then we ourselves checked with a different server and took a different table she was arguing saying that's a 6 person table we are only 4 whereas the table given 1st also a 6 person table. Once we sat down we ordered everything through our phone till the payment. Only the people from the kitchen came in between to bring our food. We had to wait for our to-go box to come. When we informed the manager/owner he didn't give a big response. That sounded like if you want to come, come otherwise we don't care attitude. No respect at all. 0 for service read more

Best vegetarian South Indian food I've had in Atl. The Sunday buffet is more expensive, but worth it. Lots of variety and all you can eat dosas. So I usually don't go to Indian restaurants since I am Indian and my parents make amazing Indian food at home. However, ironically, one of my indian friends loves going here and he wanted me to experience it. I will also mention that my parents are North indian and this restaurant is South Indian so I don't eat these foods normally, but the food here was great! We started with some madras hot coffee which was amazing, not too hot and not too sweet, and creamy. We added just a tad bit of sugar and it was perfect. Then we got a fried snack with onions which was great. For our meals we got dosa and appatham which is kind of like a salty pancake. They came with different sauces, potatoes, and a vegetable korma mix. Everything was so great! The rev dosa (made of like seminole flour) was one of the best dosas I've ever had. It was crispy. The serving sizes were huge too. We had food left over for later. The server was really sweet and gave good recommendations too. We got to sit outside and the weather was amazing, slightly breezy, and sunny. They had dine-in options too, but I didn't see anyone sitting inside, everyone was sitting outside, and they did seat people with space for distancing. read more

We called the restaurant to see if they do reservations for 10 people and was informed that they do not but not to worry as we will get a table. Around 8pm, I reached there and asked for a table of 10 and said they are working on it. After waiting for 20 minutes the whole party showed up and I look at the floor and a table of 10 was very possible. I walk up to the person I told for the table and asked him why isn't the table still ready when it can easily be created. He said he is waiting for the table of two(only one person was eating) can finish eating so he can join the table. I showed him that he has two tables of six that he can turn around and create a table for us. It is not hard and I told him I called before hand and your restaurant does not want to take reservations. I told him this is why I called so you would be expecting everything. After teaching them on how to setup tables, we sat down and started to order and this is where it just went down hill. We ordered appetizers and they waiter informed us to order main course also and he will not bring it out until after the appetizers are done. Some of us ordered the main course and some were waiting until the appetizers came. Some appetizers came. Good food (not worth the service) we had to keep on calling someone who worked there to do their job. We called to get napkins. They just stacked 10 plates and silverware in the middle and you serve your self. No follow up. The main course came and we were still missing some of the appetizers. They did not even take the appetizers plates away and were expecting us to move the plates for them so they can put down the dosa plates. I had to bring the guy out again and ask him where the other appetizers are and why did he bring the main course when the table still hasn't fully ordered all the main course. The waiter was lost completely. The whole staff was lost on how a restaurant service works. No type of service. We had to keep on asking for more water and more refills on side. The worst is not asking but you have to hunt someone down to help serve you if they don't remember to bring it to you. After 20-30 minutes we are still missing food, we got up and grabbed the waiter and told him what is going on. It's the same issue we had before and we gave the restaurant another chance. He apologized and the food showed up within a minute. Grant the owner still has not came to the table after all these complaints. We always had to grab management and finally the owner came. He was just as lost as the waiter. He said he is busy... And??? Busy does not mean you have one person running the whole floor. IT IS Saturday. You will be busy. No type of apologize from the owner, just walking away lost. Overall if the customer experience is horrible, the food does not matter like in this case. The service needs to be improved and the owner needs to be more engaged on the floor. Waiters need to be designated to certain tables so they can focus more. But for my overall experience, I will not be coming back. Two chances are more than enough in a restaurant industry, when most only get one. read more

Now, I've never been to the original location mainly cause I don't think about it but I need to. Madras Mantra is South Indian food and vegetarian. Madras was the capital of Tamil Nadu and was the former name of Chennai. Dosa is one of my favorite Indian food. Since it is a South Indian dish, I often have a harder time finding it at Indian restaurants since most Indian restaurants in the USA from what I was told is Punjabi base. What I love about Indian food is there is just so much flavor! So many spices cooked with veggie dishes that you don't even miss the meat! The Marietta location of Madras Mantra is at the corner of Windy Hill and Cobb Parkway. It's in the same plaza as X3. It is a lot bigger than I thought. While walking in, you may not think the buffet is plentiful but it is. Once you start to get a little of what they have to offer, your plate fills up quick. Even though the naan and masala dosas are not made fresh and at the buffet, they are still delicious. The eggplant manchuria and butter paneer are a hit! There is gulam jamun too! Service is attentive. Lunch buffet is only $9.99 and worth every penny. I enjoyed my time there. Now, I really have to visit the Decatur location since one of my Indian co-worker says she prefers the Decatur location and they have really good thalis too. So if you're not familiar with Indian food, this is the place to explore. This is the sister restaurant of the Madras Mantra our in Decatur. This is an all vegetarian restaurant, packed with flavor. The service was very attentive and accommodating. They have only been open for a couple weeks now but people are starting to realize that this place is amazing! The portion sizes are substantial and very filling. We opted for the North Indian cuisine at our first dining experience. Methi Malai Mutter, Paneer Makhni, and some delicious naan! The main sabzi dishes came with rice. I was also craving a Dosa, particularly their pav bhaji Dosa, but kept that on the shortlist for next time I come back in - which will be soon! From what I know, there is also an incredible buffet for lunch. Don't quote me on the hours for that, but definitely something to come visit for! Decor is super bright and colorful! I've been here a couple times, and the food is excellent. I can say that it's some of the best Indian food I've had. It had great flavor, spice, and it was very high quality. The service, however, is hit or miss. The first time I came, it was okay, and I can't say much negative about the experience. The second time, it was pretty close to closing, and we were very rushed. We were hovered over as we decided what to order, we were told we couldn't order certain items, and we weren't really helped much. I've worked in customer service (and still do) can understand that they were ready to leave, and I can respect that, but the demeanor and quality of service was not very good. Every request had a long wait. The place was busy but not adequately staffed. Food taste was ok, not the best or worst I've had and It's all vegetarian. Since the majority of Atlanta Indian restaurants serve the usual Northern India dishes (Madras Mantra also has those), we make the trek from our home for the South Indian dosas. This is the most extensive selection of dosas I have ever seen, and they even have the lacy Rava which is my favorite. Delicious chutneys accompany the dishes. They have good dosa, but they are by far the worst service we have encountered. We came to the restaurant an hour before closing time, they kept pushing us to order food, dessert, coffee all at once as soon as we sat down. By closing, we were one of three tables seated at the place and the two servers came to us three times to tell us they were closing, clearing our table with plates with food on them, our open cans of drinks; all this while the other two tables in the restaurant were still getting their food, eating, and no where near being done. We pointed out to them that they were only harassing us while they had to two other tables that were no where near done. Extremely poor service, no manager in sight. This is not the first time we've had poor service here but this was the worst. Never been shoo'd away quite like this before and treated poorly compared to other tables. Do better Madras Mantra.
