Cute vibe and unique menu, but mediocre food, average service, and it was pretty expensive. There's definitely a hype about this new place in town in what we like to say is the "cursed corner" in Long Beach, since few businesses have tried but failed to succeed. Menu was pretty big; I felt like there were plenty of options to choose from and the options were unique. Immediately, I felt like everything on the menu was expensive. Plates mostly ranged between $18-22, and things like simple breakfasts, oatmeal, and basic chilaquiles with an egg were overpriced. I ordered the Hazel waffle and the Pastor omelette to share with a friend, and she got a side of 2 egg whites because she's allergic to egg yolks. The presentation of the dishes were definitely beautiful and insta-worthy, just like the restaurant itself, but the food I felt was lacking. The omelette was just ok; the meat was a little dry and my friend felt like she needed to add some salt. I didn't feel like it needed salt, but it wasn't memorable- the egg was not as fluffy like how I usually like in an omelette and was slightly overcooked. The waffle was topped beautifully, but got soggy quickly and I felt like $19 was a little overpriced for 2 waffles. Service was ok - I felt like maybe they had too many tables so we didn't get refills on water until after we finished our meal. We also had to wait a while for silverware and shared plates when we mentioned we were sharing when we first ordered. I always see a crowd here and I've been wanting to try this place for a while, so I'm glad I got a chance to try it out. At our table we had three of the different chilaquilas on the menu: verdes, rojo and the madres which were all good. The belgian waffle was hit the french toast (red syrup with ice cream on top) and the pancakes (dense and doughy) was a miss. The drinks was agreed on by all, the underage and the legals - the mimosa flights and the lemonade flights were the hands down favorite. The waitress was personable and attentive. My food was flavorful but it was cold, all of our food was cold and in order to enjoy Chilachilles I would enjoyment them more if the food was actually at a good reasonable temperature. The ambiance can get really bustling, especially during busy hours, but that is part of the charm if you enjoy lively brunch spots. The fruit salad and orange mimosa were also delicious. I do not usually like the taste of alcohol, but the mimosa was light and enjoyable. Overall, I highly recommend this place. The food and service are fantastic. Here in Long Beach for a conference and am so glad I was able to fit in brunch at Madres before my schedule fills up. The bright and playful atmosphere was very welcoming set the tone for a wonderful meal with an upbeat playlist. Abel was our server and he took great care of us, always personable with a smile on his face. We ordered two different mimosa flights (The Valentine's special and another special) and all six were delicious! Most were well balanced with only one or two being on the almost too sweet side, but still nice to sip. I ordered the Belgian waffles, topped with fruit and whipped cream, and added a side of eggs with cotija cheese. My friend ordered the chilaquiles and we both truly enjoyed our meals. Cute brunch spot, as long as you're not in a hurry. Went on a Saturday around 12pm, and the wait was extensive. Checking in was told 30-35min wait, but it ended up being over an hour before we were seated. It was 4th of July weekend, so that might have played into the long wait, but the staff was also extremely slow. A couple of the waiters were visibly hustling, but there was always a group of two or three people just standing around doing nothing. If you just want water, expect warm tap water, no ice. I also ordered a chai latte, which was huge. All the portions here are extremely generous. Honestly, too generous for one person. Many people were leaving their plates half eaten. Kitchen was backed up and unorganized. There was a solid 10 minutes in between bringing out my partners dish and mine. Our waiter was aware, and kept checking in to let us know "it's coming out soon." We only ordered two items. Food itself is pretty good. Woke up Sunday hoping to find a yummy brunch place to take my mom to before heading back to our house in the valley . Saw this spot on tik tok and it looked delicious luckily it was 5 min away from the hotel we stayed at . Got here and waited 30 minutes to be seated . They have indoor and outdoor seating . Inside is small so considering it was packed it was super loud but tolerable . Fast forward to ordering our food we got chilaquiles , birria sandwhich , waffle that had strawberries and blueberries . For drinks it was Miche , agua fresca flight and coffee flight . As soon as we got our food it looked super delicious (presentation was 10/10) as for the taste of the food it was very bland . The waffle had no flavor what so ever . Definitely just for pictures in my opinion . My mom , aunt and my cousin said the same . As for the staff some of them are super nice and attending . As for this young girl that came to serve us our food she wasn't the nicest and had a nasty attitude I wish I would of asked for her name(she had braces and a slick back pony tail ) but since it was my mom birthday I didn't want to make a fuss on her day but we definitely weren't happy we just tried to make the best out Of it . It had just a few crumbles of bacon--and I do mean a few. I expected more, especially from a dish that sounded so hearty. Had breakfast this morning. The establishment is very cute and esthetically pleasing. So many opportunities for fotos. Its very clean and the service is great. Our server was Abel, very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We had the Chilango Omelet with green sauce. Its an omelet stuffed with chilaquiles. Also had the huevos rancheros which where delicious. The strawberry Horchata was on point, you could taste the strawberry and Horchata and it wasn't overly sweet. Honestly, this place is WAY overhyped and overpriced. I came during the week at a lunch time to meet a client and chose this place because of all of the social media I saw around it. I chose to sit inside because of the aesthetics and I will say this - if you want to be screaming in conversation, than this is the place for you. The music inside is so loud and it was the middle of the week...I cannot even imagine what it would be like on the weekends. Let's move on to the food. First - secret menu (QR code on the menu) sounds so good right? Wrong. It's trash. Let me first start on their "specialty coffee flight," ($16) which was a take on "mexican-inspired" coffees/lattes?? The horchata and mazaplan was okay. Didn't taste much of anything except a hint of cinnamon and a hint of peanut butter. Then they had pistachio and Abuelita's hot chocolate...DO NOT DO IT. It was absolute TRASH. We literally didn't even take a second sip, that's how bad it was. I told the girl to not ever recommend it and her response was that "they were popular." Next, I got the verdes chilaquiles with chicken ($24) and my customer got the birria chilaquiles ($20). The verdes was really good but the chicken was dry and honestly - reheated 2 day old chicken. At least that is what it tasted like. If you don't care about the meat, I would forego the extra $7 and get just that. The birria was a little spicy, which was fine, but it did not taste good at all. No real consome taste, even with the consome to dip it in. And to finish it off - we got the pistachio waffles ($19), hoping that it would be the saving grace. Hell to the no. It didn't even taste like a waffle, let alone pistachio...it was green food dye and a handful of real pistachios sprinkled on top. Was it worth the $119 I paid? Absolutely not. It was terrible, but the people and service was nice - which is why this place got 2 stars. Usually if a place is photo op cute, the food is mid, at best. This place's food was below mid and really disappointing. I would go somewhere that was actually more authentic and edible in the future. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would! This place does not deserve not even 1 star. I'm really disappointed with the service we received. From the moment we were seated, everything moved extremely slow. We asked multiple times for water and still had to wait far longer than expected just to receive something so basic. When our food finally came out, it was burnt and clearly overcooked. To make matters worse, our drinks didn't arrive until after the food was already served, which made no sense and completely threw off the experience. What was most frustrating, though, was that despite the poor service and multiple issues, the server (Kimberly) still had the audacity to ask for a tip. Tipping is meant to reflect good service, and unfortunately, that was not the case here. Overall, the lack of attentiveness, slow service, and low food quality made this a very disappointing visit. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and works on improving both service and kitchen standards. Very disappointed! I will not be returning. read more
