So sad. We REALLY wanted this to be great, but my husband and I had two crepes, shared a side salad, and drank tap water and the bill was $30. I mean, c'mon. Don't mind paying for good food, but this was so disappointing. Oh, and although I am ok with ok crepes on a regular menu... this is a crepe place for god's sake. If the item is your namesake, you really ought to nail it. Crepes were thin, dry, and overall just totally underwhelming. This place is way too fancy for me. Was looking for a diner style restaurant with crepes. This is more for people to go eat after a yoga class. This place is the wife's and my favorite place to eat in bellingham. We have had 90% of the menu as well and we can't decide what we like the best. The soups are light and the flavors are complex. We visited Magdalena's on a Sunday morning during breakfast hours. Our group of six was promptly seated. The restaurant is small and we were a larger group which may not not be a fair way to judge this restaurant-- the set up is more for tables of two. The server arrived quickly and asked for the drink order. My husband just wanted coffee and said, "I would like a black coffee." The server's reaction was "we don't serve coffee". Her meaning was "the restaurant only serves French press coffee." There had to be a nicer way to deliver this information. Of course the restaurant serves coffee. My husband just needed an explanation not a condescending attitude about freaking coffee. That's how we started. The fillings for the crepes were delicious and fresh. The actual crepes were paper thin and a bit crunchy. I prefer crepes somewhere between paper thin and cardboard thin and more pliable. The aforementioned coffee was absolutely delicious! Fairhaven is a very pretty historic seaside town. We found Magdalena's by accident while walking to find breakfast. We were pleasantly surprised. I loved #28 on the menu: prosciutto, avocado and spinach in Magdalena's signature crepe. Awesome!! read more

As a 30-year-plus resident of Bellingham and an international foodie, I have to tell you that this place is a gem. A quiet, comfortable atmosphere, friendly staff and carefully prepared food. But don't come here if you're looking for an IHOP-style egg/bacon/hash brown breakfast -- the menu is unique. Where else can you get authentic Polish pirogis with a choice of several fillings? And be ready for hearty whole-wheat Polish crepes, Magdalena's personal recipe, not the traditional fluffy omelet-like French style, but more like the buckwheat galettes of Brittany. Or try a yogurt & fruit parfait, or the more tradtional egg, tomato & ham scramble. The lattes are among the best in town. And the art on the walls is always colorful and interesting. My fiancé and I had been meaning to check out this place but we could never find a free afternoon and they close at 4pm. We arrived about 3pm and were told they were out of chicken and the coffee pot had already been turned off, but we did both find something we were excited about. Loved my sandwich! Enjoyed a lovely lunch here yesterday and felt so fortunate to eat food Magda puts such heart into. I am partial to the roast pork crepe and my sweetie adores the fried pierogies. It's honest, handmade, comfort food, presented with great care. It's an intimate place, with a tiny kitchen and modest seating - in the best way - and on that note, I want to say that Magda and her staff handled a very rude party yesterday with considerable grace. Three adults with children came in, and the adults expected fast food, repeatedly verbally abused the staff, tried to rile up other customers - it was just a terribly wasteful and hurtful way for them to spend a beautiful day in someone's lovely little restaurant. (Their children were great, by the way!) It was heartening to see the other customers smile at the servers and show them kindness while they dealt with that party. I sincerely hope those people don't come on here and complain, because they clearly walked in the door expecting the impossible and determined to ruin their server's day. Go and eat. Pretty, but way overpriced and pretentious. The coffee, which sold by the pot (no refills) is very expensive and very mediocre, way below Pacific NW standards. Portions are skimpy. I recently visited Bellingham and had lunch at Magdalena's. The French pressed Stumptown coffee was excellent.. The crepe (savory pork) was superb. I returned the next day for a breakfast crepe. As someone who lived near the "Gourmet Ghetto" in Berkeley, CA for 30 years, I found this creperie to be remarkable. All the ingredients are of the highest, freshest quality. Magdalena has a unique talent in blending food combinations for an outstanding meal. If you want the same old stuff you can get in a thousand diners or flash frozen in a chain restaurant, you might not like this place. If you want something you've never had, prepared from fresh ingredients after you place your order, you are bound to be happy. The service was good and Magdalena was a cheery presence. The whole atmosphere was welcoming, with what appeared to be "regulars" chatting with staff, Magdalena, other customers, and even my party and me. On my first visit, there was a pianist who entertained with soft, background music that enabled us to enjoy him and our conversations. I will return to Magdalena's if I'm in the Bellingham area again. read more

I first happened upon Magdalenas Creperie when I arrived here in December of 2009. I came in for brunch with a friend not knowing what to expect as I had just moved here from New York City where there is offered a cornucopia of world cuisine. As I opened the door the things that immediately pleased me was the ambiance of the cozy creperie and the smell of good coffee. I was greeted cheerfully by a young lady behind the counter who introduced herself as the owner Magdalena. Now, I must tell you that I absolutely love crepes. My first taste was as at the "Magic Creperie" in Boston back in the late 70's, it was made at the table & the most delicious food my taste buds had ever experienced! Magdalenas Creperie brings back that first experience and that old love for crepes, sweet or savory. Nowadays I eat a lot healthier so its nice to know that Magdalena makes everything with fresh local ingredients. They offer a daily special which is usually a recipe that Magdalena has put together herself intuitively. The results are always magically delicious! The staff at Magdalenas is attentive & courteous and service is always with a smile. Weekend brunches find the place very busy so get there early for a good table. My favorite table is one by the window...oh I did I mention the best thing about Magdalenas is that they have !! Gluten Free !! Crepes & deserts which are scrumptiously delicious. I have loved Magdalena's since they opened years ago. The ambience is quaint, cozy, often with small cut flowers on each table. The menu is extensive, not to mention the constantly changing specials - usually including a soup of the day, a savory crepe special and a sweet crepe. And she bakes amazing desserts, so make sure you walk up to the counter to see what treats you may find freshly baked that day! Simply lovely! While enjoying a beautiful day in Fairhaven, I strolled into this cute creperie. Eclectic music playing unobtrusively, cozy seating of maybe 13 tables and smiling staff started my visit. I anticipated a savory crepe lunch, however, being of polish descent I couldn't resist the pierogi special (came with a side arugula salad) with a glass of the house merlot. Rude, slow and inattentive. Owner response- if I don't like waiting an hour for service I should go to McDonalds. The reason others were served ahead of me - the owner got priority service, and 3 others tables after me were served first but they deny this, although I saw the tables flip and get food while I was waiting. The owner also criticized my 92 year old mother for not knowing what she wanted to order the minute the waitress appeared at our table. I suppose this was another justification for their slow service and lack of eye contact or apology for the long wait. The food was just cold grilled veggies in a dark brown crepe lathered with Tzikiki yogurt sauce. Ugh - not worth $75 for 4 crepes and 90 minutes of my Sunday. Worst attitude ever - they think they are fine dining but they don't appear to know the meaning of customer service. The customer is wrong and they are not afraid to say so. Rude to the hilt, and called me classless for complaining of my observation that as the only people of color, I questioned whether they were just being rude because we were not locals and not white. But I see they are just rude to everyone, per the other reviewers here. Equal opportunity rude and not what they profess to be - fine. Just fine dining prices. Horrible service and worst of all - unapologetic! They even called me hours later suggesting I skipped out on paying my bill, even though I had a receipt in my wallet for the credit card charge. The first time I ate here - lunch--it was very good. The crepe was savory, it was freshly made, service pretty good. So, when my brother ( a real foodie) came to town, I took him here for breakfast. I was so embarrassed! I think they made the crepes the night before, it was so tough I only ate the filling. The smoked salmon filling ( we're from Alaska) was terrible! My sister and I came here for brunch on a Saturday morning. Service was fast and friendly. The food was amazing. We split the soup of the day which was light and flavorful. My sister had mixed pirogues which were the best if ever eaten. My crepe was somehow crisp and tender simultaneously and filled with ingredients which at first seemed like an unlikely pairing but came together to form the most amazingly complex and nuanced flavor profile. We ended with a lemon curd crepe and though we were quite full from the meal it was all we could do to keep from licking that last plate clean. This is my favorite place to eat in in the Bellingham area. Perogies like my momma made, crepes full of fresh, savory yummy goodness. Mimosas for brunch and spices hot wine on cold winters days. We also had a feast on the Polish-style sweet soft crepes with mascarpone and fruit and could not help but share our amazing experience with anybody looking for AUTHENTIC, DELICIOUS, and made from LOCAL PRODUCE Polish flavors in the Puget Sound Area. Magdalena's Creperie makes it all from scratch (no imported frozen stuff from the box) and you can just feel it in the taste of the food! Ouch!!!!!! The ladies at Magdelana's are NOT very nice. My daughter and I went in their wide open door to have a late lunch. They are opened until 4PM and we arrived at 3PM. They were up with a man who went into great detail as to an "off menu" item he wanted prepared. There were three women behind the counter and after twenty minutes of sitting, not one of them approached us. If it was because they wanted to leave and close up, I understand, all they had to do was walk over and tell us that. It would have been odd considering the time and attention they were giving the gentleman with the "special order". It really is very insulting to be so completely invisible in an establishment whose sole purpose is service. Frankly, I have never been too crazy about the place, one time my chicken soup had three very large bones in it, their eggs for breakfast are a non-event. I will be sure that will be my last visit. The food was delicious and beautiful. I had the fruit and white chocolate mascarpone cheese crepe. I'd be hard pressed to say I've had anything better in Paris. My wife had a feta, eggs and greens scramble. She loved it. Everything was fresh. The cappuccino and espresso was very good. We're definitely eating there again when we return to Fairhaven. We just attempted to have a late lunch at this establishment. It wasn't very busy; after all, it is about two o'clock on a Saturday afternoon and the lunch rush was over. We waited to be seated. The young woman told us that we could sit at any one of the smaller tables. There was a party of 6 or 7 at the large table in the center of the restaurant, so there were several 4 person and two person tables available. We had been shopping in Fairhaven and were at the far end of our walk when we decided to try this establishment. When we asked to sit at one of the 4 person tables (we had coats and bags), she said that we could sit at the 2 person table in the corner where a ledge overhung part of it. Now, I could easily understand not being able to accommodate our reasonable request if it were the lunch hour; however, she had zero awareness of customer service and failed to properly assess the cues that were available. We left without eating. It is good that they have enough business that they don't even have to attempt to accommodate people and can turn business away. The help needs to have better situational awareness and customer service training. read more

This place is just what Fairhaven needed, best crepes in town hands down. It's obvious other reviewers haven't actually eaten there, the crepes are very filling, my wife and I often share and are totally satisfied. The coffee is unreal, the staff is very attentive. Children love the menu with the fruit and sweet crepes. For lunch the soup is always an authentic eastern european special, so wonderful. Seriously I love this place! Both times I've been we've had good service, & delicious food. My understanding is that the cook/owner is actually from europe & that the crepes are made in a traditional style from her country. It feels like a very authentic experience. At first I was surprised at the crispy-ness of the crepes, but soon my tastebuds were overwhelmed with joy. There was a generous amount of filling in the crepes, which I appreciated. The servers have been gracious & helpful, and the food & drinks arrived promptly. Also, I found the prices to be fair for the quality of food. We have been here before and the food was really great, especially the baked crepes. This time wasn't a good experience with the service. We got sat at a table that could barely hold our coffee and water. We asked for a larger table which were empty and they refused our request on the basis that other larger parties might come in but other two tops came and got those tables. Then we ordered and after waiting 45 minutes our breakfast never came. They brought us our check and didn't even notice we never even got our breakfast and still had untouched silverware. We decided to just pay for our coffee. They didn't check on us once the whole time we were there. We didn't want to say anything because we wanted to see how long it would take them to notice, unfortunately they never did. We eventually put our 7 dollars down for our coffee. When they took the cash she came back to the table saying we didn't pay all of our bill because she didn't even realize she never gave us our food. We explained this and said we were just paying for our coffee. They came back to the table because we were 7 cents short on our coffee (taxes) that in my opinion we shouldn't have even paid for after waiting 45 minutes without any service or breakfast. After all of that they cook/owner came and apologized and made us some quick tarts to go. I really want to go back because the food is really good but I am hesitant with the latest service. read more
