Maggie McFly's is amazing. This is one of the only chain (albeit smaller) restaurants we enjoy going to because the food comes out fresh and they are proponents on engaging with local business for the menu items. Their menu amazes me every time because you go in craving one thing and then the rush and excitement comes as you look at their very diverse menu and the game is totally switched because everything sounds good...and they do not disappoint! I went for a light lunch before dinner and we ordered the Caesar salad and buffalo bites. Our first set of silverware was dirty so I asked for a new one, the passing waitress didn't seem to care and brought a new one. This set was also dirty, you could see bits of food still stuck on it. Asked the main waitress for another, again, and she checked herself and rolled them herself, still a fork was dirty... I will not be coming back here again. Tried again...back in town. Three strikes and your out. Our server was not good. My sons bun had green on the bottom. We waited over 40 minutes for our food and it didn't even come out correct. Five stars for the excellent service by server KYLE. Kyle was friendly, polite and very attentive. He advised us that our order would take some time to come out. He checked on us a few times and offered bread while we waited. The food was served faster than expected. My salad was big and fresh. My kids had a burger, chicken and fries which they enjoyed. I brought a couple coworkers here for a business lunch. Our office is in the Lynnhaven area and this place had just opened up and looked interesting, so we figured we'd give it a try. We came in around noon and it was fairly busy (understandable for lunch rush), and we were seated immediately while being handed a 1-inch thick leather-bound BOOK that turned out to be the menu. While I can appreciate the very vast array of menu options, I personally found this to be overwhelming, so I stuck to the "Executive Lunch" menu they handed us separately. We ordered an appetizer and three soups, as well as lunch entrees. While the appetizer came out rather quickly, the soup came out almost 20 minutes later, then our food came out about 25 minutes after that. It was busy around this time so we were trying to be understanding, but my frustration was more due to the fact that our waitress was very inattentive and only came to the table once during these waits when one of the guys at our table awkwardly made eye contact with her while she was walking by. We spent about an hour and a half at the restaurant, most of which was just waiting for our food. The food itself was pretty good, but I wasn't crazy about the lobster grilled cheese sandwich. For one, that wasn't what I ordered, but we had already waited so long that I didn't want to make it an issue. The lobster was "chewy" and the cheese was kind of hard. The others at my table seemed to enjoy their food, though - one ordered a filet and the other ordered a chicken sandwich. The appetizer we ordered was the California roll, which is similar to the one they do at Yardhouse - a single, deconstructed layered dish. That was delicious, as was the she crab soup and butternut squash soup we ordered. All in all, I know this place is new but it seems they just have some issues on the service side that need to be addressed in order to keep up with the lunch rushes that are common in this area of Virginia Beach. Being that there are a ton of businesses/office buildings surrounding the Lynnhaven Mall area, there is a ton of potential for this to be a meeting spot for business lunches, but I wouldn't want to deal with the awkwardness of having my guests waiting so long for their food. read more

Good food but the management has a lot to learn about customer service! We had a party of 15. Our experience started with one of our friends having salsa spilled down her back by a server, which was an accident. Unfortunately, she was then served cold coffee and received the wrong meal. The waiter brought the correct meal for her to take home as he made the error, however he then charged her for both meals. The manager was very apologetic and offered to pay for dry cleaning. However, it might have been better customer service to comp her meal or at least the coffee or a dessert. We won't return because of the poor customer service experience. read more

Never again. I ordered the Ruben, the Thousand Island tasted more like mustard? Also got chicken rice soup, but it was mixed with chicken tortellini, no explanation. One person in our party ordered the pear &brie salad. Not a single pear in the dish, the waiter asked the kitchen then commented "yeah they ran out of pears". WOW an the waiter no snappy chap either, let me explain. First we got no utensils or napkins, we thought farm to table may have also been hand to mouth,we waited forever for the waiter to rustle up utensils to eat the food we had already been served, then we did the unthinkable, we asked for ketchup for our fries. We were convinced the waiter had flown to tome to get tomatoes to make ketchup table side. My son-in-law and grandson had the of visiting the men's room. The waste was bubbling up through the floor drains and the toilets were teaming with sewage that would not go down. The toilet paper was hanging of the flush handle. Waiter said unabashedly that this was a common occurrence, he remarked "gross right". Now we know why the side doors were propped open, to attempt to abate the smell. I gave it 3 tries - 2x at the bar and 1x in the restaurant area. The concept of this place is awesome. However, it comes out more corporate-y than local-feeling. Both times at the bar, had really slow service. And the bar was maybe half full. Same with the restaurant side when ordering bar drinks. Food comes out quickly and is okay. If you've ever considered ordering a frozen margarita from here, save yourself the trouble and do NOT. Not only will you get a glass of slushy water, but when you let the waiter know, you'll get "I was going to tell you not to order it, but I didn't." I came in on National Margarita day a couple weeks ago and experienced this. When I ordered another drink, the bar tender came over to drop off the margarita saying "I heard someone didn't like their margarita." I felt terrible because I don't like sending things back and was very apologetic. In response he said, "don't apologize, just know that's what happens when you order it frozen. So next time don't order it." And walked away. I was dumbfounded and he made me feel terrible. I don't foresee myself coming back here. read more

I went there a couple times when they opened within the first couple months the food was OK but the servers were absolutely horrible. I kept giving them chances yet even the manager was making excuses for their lack of hustle. The. Place was empty yet could not get a refill for a half hour I was done with my food by then. Another time I asked for catch-up to eat with my french fries by the time that was brought to me I was done with my entire meal as well. Tonight we had dinner at Maggie McFly's and a cockroach crawled down from the wall and across our table while we were eating. My party and I jumped from our seats as it fell off the table and into my sister's lap. Our waitress came and kindly killed the cockroach. We were very kind and didn't make a scene or complain anymore other than asking the waitress to take care of the cockroach. The manager came over to apologize. The manager did not offer to clean our table or discount any of our food (that we were eating as the cockroach crawled across the table). The booth that we were sitting at was absolutely filthy in between the booth and the wall (where the cockroach crawled out from). Needless to say, we could not eat the rest of our food that we had to pay full price for. I feel as though the manager not offering a discount or offering to clean our table at the least was very unprofessional. read more

We are frequent customers and usually enjoy it, today was a bad experience. I was served fish that part of the way through eating I noticed was raw in the middle, then the waitress took it back and when she came back it was the same piece of fish obviously microwaved with no flavor. When I didn't eat my meal the waitress offered me a box and no apologies or compensation. I am in town for the Rock and Roll Half Marathon and a relative suggested that we try this restaurant to load up on carbs. The menu is very overwhelming, so I decided to play it safe and order a cheese pizza. My pizza lagged behind the other meals by about 10 minutes and when I received it, it wasn't cooked enough. So much so, I was getting flour on my clothes. I sent it back and they cooked it some more, but it still tasted as if the dough was not cooked. Needless to say I was not satisfied. read more

Everything I wanted to order was unavailable. When I finally did order they made substitutes to it for what they were lacking without telling me. Thankfully I don't have food allergies. When I asked about the meal the manager said "I'm just a button pusher" and the kitchen makes the food. I still had to pay for it at full price. DO NOT ORDER THE SEAFOOD CASSEROLE!!! We have been here before and enjoyed the food and service. Last night was a different story. Our waitress was Nina. It took us several times to remind her about our drink orders. Our drink orders weren't that complicated. Coffee, sprite and water. When our drinks finally arrived after an hour, she handed it to us with an attitude. She wrote down our orders, left, and she returned asking for our orders again like she had no recollection of ever asking us about it just a few minutes ago. When our food arrived, we were served the wrong items. I asked her to just cancel my order and she said "OK". No apologies. My wife and I have been to Maggie McFly's since they first opened and before they had their grand opening. The first time we were blown away with the food and service. D.M. Ewerton Gouveia was on duty and made us feel welcome and made sure we were taken care of. The portions are big, we always have left overs. The menu is huge with many different items to meet every ones taste. It has a good vibe and great décor. We have been there possibly 15 times since opening and the service sometimes has lack plus the portions were smaller than when we first started. This seems to only happen when D.M. Ewerton is not there. We ate there tonight and we were glad to see that D.M. Ewerton was on duty because we knew we would have great service and the portions would be like when we first ate there. But all in all, Maggies is a great place to get your fill on! read more

We have been to this restaurant three times since opening. The menu is overwhelming and the food presentation is horrible. The first visit was nice , we sat at the bar for just appetizers and drinks. We had a nice visit with the staff at that time. The second and third visits had issues with service being very slow and wrong orders. My mom recommended me to try out this place since she came here and we decided as a family to go out altogether. I really enjoyed the whole "farm to table" and always showcasing what farm they got their meats, cheese, pasta, and bread from. The menu is pretty big and has American, Italian, and some Mexican food. The atmosphere is pretty lively with a huge bar towards the front and big leather booths. We ordered calamari and I tried out their mac and cheese burger. The calamari portion they gave us was a lot (which made me happy) and filled us up pretty quick. This place is absolute garbage. I don't know why I keep coming back. It is almost like I forget because the atmosphere is fun. I have had the pot roast. It was cold and just rubber. My veggies were overcooked and cold. This was a Tuesday afternoon. I came on a Friday night and ordered the chicken piccata. Not my most favorite tasting but so far has been my fave dish. I came on a Thursday just before dinner and ordered the French onion soup. It was cold. This soup is meant to scold you. It comes back and the cheese is darker but the soup is the same temp. Did they really just stick it under the broiler? I sent it back again. This time it was super hot and burnt. Way to take 3 tries. I actually like my cheese somewhat burnt. I am here now. I ordered the Cuban and she crab combo. My soup once again is cold. The bread is super soggy and the sandwich itself is like biting into a salt cube. I get ham is salty but this is unnatural. Also i am eating with 2 other friends. My food came out 10 min before theres. What the heck? If you want a decent drink...yea come here. But the food is garbage. read more

I visited this place for the first time with my children. While the service was excellent and the restaurant was clean and modern, I was underwhelmed with the food. The menu was very large with many options. The entrees were somewhat pricey compared to other local restaurants. I ordered the turkey dinner. It was very fancy in appearance. However, the turkey was dry and could use more gravy. It was served with stuffing, corn, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. The stuffing and mashed potatoes were tasty. The corn was okay with zucchini and squash mixed in. The cranberry sauce was disappointing. It was all liquid. I don't think I will order it if I return (I was torn between the turkey dinner and the crab cakes). The children's menu was also large. My children ordered chicken tenders and pasta with marinara sauce. My one son enjoyed the chicken tenders, although he commented that he had tasted better chicken at other restaurants. My other son was very disappointed with the pasta. There was a very small portion of pasta and the sauce was liquidy; it looked like canned tomatoes had been dumped onto a small plate of ziti. They both enjoyed the breadsticks. I might visit the restaurant again, but will order something different. read more

The waitress brought me pepsi when asked for coke, ordered shrimp feticcini alfrao got chicken alfrado. they where good to fix the order but skimped out big on the shrimp. Tonight was my first time dining in, so I hate that this review isn't a great one. The menu (both drinks and food) are extensive and incredible, I was very excited to give Maggie's a try after my ten hour shift today (I'm also in the restaurant industry). Michael took care of me, and while I'm sure he meant well, his service was lacking in all aspects...my impression was that he's either new to Maggie's, or new to bartending. It was about 7:30pm on a Friday when I arrived, and half the bar seats were open, but I wasn't greeted for five minutes. When I ordered my bourbon, he asked what that was, then told me he didn't have it: once I said it's on the menu, he checked and realized Angel's Envy is, indeed, one of your bourbons. Once I was done with my appetizer (ahi tuna nachos, phenomenal!!) and first drink, another ten minutes went by before anyone swung by to see how I was doing or if I wanted another round. No other bartender interacted with me tonight, not even with eye contact and a head nod hello. I ended up placing a to go order with Michael, I asked for the Sriracha Honey wings with two bleu cheeses. They came out quickly, and he even tried to give them to the people a few seats down, as if he didn't remember that I'd just ordered them. I glanced in the bag to make sure I had two bleu cheese ramekins, and it appeared that I did...except I just got home, and my wings are not the Sriracha Honey I was craving, but buffalo. And it's two sides of ranch, instead of bleu cheese. I don't know if I was accidentally given someone else's order, if it was an error on the kitchen's part, or if Michael rang it in incorrectly, but I'm super disappointed. Like I said, I'm in the service industry, and I am always super understanding when I'm out. I tipped over 20%, despite my frustrations with the service I received. I should have double-checked my to go food, that's on me. I don't want Michael or anyone else to get in trouble, this is just earnest feedback from someone who's new to town and was excited to experience Maggie's, but was ultimately dissatisfied.
