I came in for the first time with my sister and keep in mind she's been here before and recommend this place to me but when we walked in we got the most rude customer service I have ever experienced. My sister was very shocked. We had walked in and headed to the main lady in charge and asked her if one of her employees (lynn) was available and while my sister waited she didn't even bother to look up instead she said "idk why don't you go ask her". What kind of manger is this? Anyway Lynn was booked for the day so we got in the car and drove down to paramount and firestone and came to spa nails :) they have amazing customer service. My fav is Cathy she's way available and is really nice ;) if you come call in advance because they do get busy. But that must be for some reason right? Came back bc my nail lady at a different place was busy, it was about 5:20 and I was seated with Linda about 10 min after I walked in, it was my first time getting a fill here, so I sit down and Linda starts I have most nails natural and she did overlays (powder over natural nail) I think she did a great job. If I had to give constructive criticism it would be to not rush but work a bit faster. She took 2 hours to do my fill, and the placement of the powder was a little thick didn't stick to my nail well,however I did like the Shape and color used(DND #094 American Beauty) at the end she put a cuticle oil I wouldn't recommend it because the scent never went away, it smelled like garlic spices. My first time coming to this place, only because it was an emergency on a weekend. I understand the wait because I didnt have an appointment. All I wanted was acrylic with gel polish. Tammy did my nails. She took over an hour to do them, which was okay I guess.. but the very next day 2 of my nails came off and the rest are almost off. I don't mind paying $40 for my nails, If they do a good job and the nails have to stay on for at least 2 weeks if not more. I don't think I'll be coming here again and I do I won't go to the same person. read more

I came in for a simple pedicure and this was a rough experience. The pedicure water was cold and the nail technician (Kathy) worked fast, maybe too fast because she cut my cuticle so bad that it bled through the rest of the pedicure. Then she passed me to a second nail tech (Thi) halfway through, who gave me the worst massage I ever had. She just basically moved the lotion around, while talking and laughing on her personal phone call. Then when she started the polish, she didn't use a base coat. When I asked her if she was going to, she looked at me like I was crazy and just threw some on my toes that weren't painted yet, missing half of the nails on those toes. When the pedicure was done, maybe a minute went by before Thi asked me to put on my shoes and basically leave. I'm currently waiting in my car for my nails to dry instead of being able to wait in the salon, as usual. I'm not sure what happened here, but this was a mess. Never coming back here. read more

I LOVE HELEN! i am a colorist at Avant Garde Salon and so my nails are always looking a little funky with the chemicals. i started getting natural looking acrylics and they were OK... i went into Magical nails and Helen did my fill. OMG I LOVED HER right away. she was not only very nice but my nails looked natural with just a tad bit of length and the shape was perfect : ) She told me to get my next fill within 2 weeks, so i did. i walked in and she totally remembered my name. I've been coming to Magical Nails for about 4 years now; approximately about the time I moved into the neighborhood. I had a nail salon I really liked in Monterey Park where I used to live but find that way too far of a drive for a simple mani/pedi. When I moved to Downey, I tried quite a few of the local nail salons trying to find one I liked best. One big plus with Magical Nails is they are one of the only nail salons in the area where you can get a regular mani/pedi; pretty much every other salon in the area offers only 'spa' mani/pedis and are priced accordingly. Frankly, I just want my nails and feet cleaned up; if I want a massage I'll go to a masseuse--a vibrating chair doesn't do it for me. Another plus--they are a 5 minute drive from my house!! So close and the parking is always adequate. The salon is very basic and is probably not the tidiest when compared to my former nail salon (reason for 4 rather than 5 star rating). The towels they use appear old, ragged, and stained, and I don't know...it just doesn't feel exceptionally clean. However, I've never felt things were re-used on me after being used on another client which is why I will keep coming back. The prices are decent and the ladies are all relatively friendly. I've been taken care of by a few of the ladies since I tend to walk in when I figure out my schedule and can make it in; since I'm in a rush I will take whoever's available but if I make the time to schedule an appointment I will always ask for Tammy. She is very sweet and seems very eager to make sure you're happy with her work. Helen has done my nails before too and like others have said, she does an immaculate job. She is in high demand though so you need to book with her in advance. I only got to see her once as I just walked in and her appointment was running extrememly late so she took me. Overall I've had decent work from all the ladies. Like others have said, their nail color selection is not the greatest but they do offer OPI polishes so that's a plus. I frequently get gel manicures but lately I've been experiencing peeling of the polish on the nail edges after about only a week. This may be due to the multiple coats though--with some colors I find 3 are necessary. I used to go in and get my arms waxed as well but I got tired of having to wait out the hair re-growth period in order to re-wax so I've started laser hair removal at a spa clinic instead. The results when waxing were always satisfactory though. Overall it's a nice little place that's comfortable and convenient. Keep in mind that if you're in a rush, daytime hours on Saturdays are extremely busy! read more

Anyways here is my story Helen wasn't available so I SCHEDULE my appointment for mani/pedi. Today was the 1st time trying out the chrome nails at Magical Nails Salon! If you want something different than the norm- come check it out!! The process is a gel base, glitter dust to create the chrome effect, then topped with clear gel top coat! They did a great job at making each visitor feel welcome without all the awkward unnecessary small talk- can I still an amen?! This nail salon is a must. Only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I didn't like that when they cut the cuticle clippings, I saw her drop it on the floor ICK! Other than that, great nail salon! I keep coming back here because it's cheap and they do a decent job for pedicures. It's definitely not somewhere where you can expect to be pampered in those awesome massage chairs. Here, what you see is what you get. You walk in and the overwhelming smell of nail polish and acrylics own you. The most I've had to wait here is about 15 minutes. I guess it could be worse. The ladies are speedy but do a good job of cleaning. Bring your own polish here because their selection is no bueno. $12 for a pedi isn't bad and I come here when I just need my polish changed and don't want to spend too much money. read more

Suddenly an angelic light shone from the heavens on a little nail shop in a stip mall right around the corner from my house. Though the waiting area was small, and there were a lot of people waiting, I lucked out. Tammy did my toes, and Vicky did my acrillic nails. I walked out feeling like a million pennies. I teach at the local high school, so I ask the students- "Where should I go get my nails done?" Magical Nails came highly suggested to me, but let me go over all the positive and negatives. Positives: + Ask for Helen. + She takes her time (my simple acrylics she spent two hours on, mani and pedi over an hour- this is without artwork). + If you are in a rush, she can always go faster, but it's nice how she takes the time to do it right and make it NOT hurt. My first time with acrylics with her hurt less than any other time. + Mani and Pedi is about $17. Negatives: + The use pretty low quality polishes, so things chip a lot faster. + Most of the other ladies usually rush people in and out. Zero stars if possible. This place is a mess. Old, dirty and smells. They have their equipment in plastic $1 boxes. Cheap plastic containers with liners used for pedicures. Metal bowls for manicures. Nail polish selection is zilch. No name polishes. Polishes all dried out. Ladies who work there are rude!! Argumentative. And rough! Woman cut my toe! And then was upset when I asked for an extra massage. My mom paid for a gel mani and the woman painted one nail and asked to put them to dry! 1 freaking nail at a time!! Then proceeded to get rude when my mom asked what was happening with the nail polish. It was dry and she was having a hard time making even strokes. I gave this place a try thinking I will have a new fav nail spot that's very near my house. Huge mistake! Rude workers especially the one with the short hair. Her station is the third one on your right when you enter the salon. I didn't bother asking for her name. There's nothing magical about this place. They need to work on their manners and work ethics. Horrible customer service, I kept giving this place the benefit of the doubt. Their work is ok, gel manicures only last a few days and it always chips by the second day. They are very rude, specially the owner. I walk in for a gel manicure and regular manicure, they did the regular manicure first then took care of people who walked in after me that needed gel manicures. An hour later and the regular manicure was still waiting to be helped. Very disappointing that they don't treat all customers the same and lie about people having appointments. read more

I've been coming here for years and I finally got tired of making an appointment and sitting to wait for 10-15 mins for Tina to finish with her client. This has happened EVERY time. What's the point of appointments, if you're not going to respect them? They're so desperate to make a buck that they'll take walk-in clients even when they know they have appointments. If someone's late for their appointment, then they need to be sent away. It's not fair the rest of us who are always on time. I have never been late for a pedi/mani appointment. Magical nails... Nice name but no unicorns in here. I called in for a manicure/pedicure. $22 for both. No wait. Come now. Not bad until I got there. For $22 you usually get a spa pedicure. It's my fault for not specifying, but I haven't seen a plastic blue tub with a plastic bag tied around it for a pedicure since the early 90's. The most of the nail colors were brands I never heard of: princessa, Santee, daisy nail lacquer, etc. On the bright side, the place looked clean and they were nice. I'd say they were average for work they do. If I'm in a jam, I might come back... but I'll bring my own polish. read more

10/14/2015 Haven't had my nails done in over 6 years - it hurt too much. But my friend raves about Magical Nails so I went...wow! I had no appointment, although my friend had her regular appointment. They had a bay open with Rose. She was quick, efficient, and NO pain. It was the gentlest experience ever AND I broke my ring finger last weekend! The French gel nails were $24. My nails looked horrible when I went in, and beautiful when i came out. Rose was just fantastic, and her work was pain free! Also, there was plenty of parking, and no overwhelming smells in the work areas. For an special treat, there is a Happy Feet massage place next door. I'll have to give them a 5 star yelp next! Come here often to get my pedicure. They do a decent job for the price. Helen is the best, by far, however, she is always booked. If you can, try to avoid Julie for pedicures. She is not personable and gets up to leave many times during the pedicure. She left 3 times while she did my pedicure. No, she did not come back with supplies. She left the first time for 10 minutes. Kathy the nail salon owner is very unpleasant. She forgets to treat customers with respect. Kathy acts as though customers bother her.

So about 7 years ago my nail lady that I'd been going to for 9 years up and closed her nail shop. I was super sad because she gave no one any warning. I had to act fast and find someone new, so I asked friends and they recommended their own girls of course. I did give them all a fair chance, honestly I did, but no one compared to Ilene my old nail girl. I was super sad and bummed for about 9 months, because I'd hadn't found anyone good. Then one day, one of my clients came in to see me ranting and raving about this new little nail shop that opened in the area. She tells me "you have to go and ask for Vicky she is the best." I go to Magical Nails expecting nothing and boy was I wowed. Vicky was AWESOME!!!! She did my nails exactly how I wanted them: medium, natural tip, pink power, round squared, hand painted french tip and a gel coating . I almost feel to my knees with tears. I finally found someone that could do my nails right. As far as pedicures, I let anyone of the girls do them, they are all good. I've been with Vicky going on 7 years now. I'm so happy I found her and she has become a good acquaintance. She knows how I like my nails and all my favorite colors. Also, every time I walk in she says hi Lisa and all the other girls say hi right after, talk about good customer service, people like to feel like they are welcomed and that's the way I feel at Magical Nails.
