Wow, this place is definitely the best South Asian restaurant in DFW! So happy they are here now; we have lacked a proper fine dining restaurant like this. We had an extremely enjoyable dinner last night, celebrating a couple birthdays. Our server was great and food was incredible. My favorite dishes were the lamb chops, the peshawari karahi, the Malai boti, and all of the naans which were cooked perfectly. Great flavors all around. We also liked the Chicken Hunzai Handi. Their drinks are amazing and quite a good variety which I loved. If I had to suggest a few improvements, I would first say to please get a proper beef skewer kabob. Right now they have ground chicken kabob and then a mix chicken/beef kabob, which I thought was a bit dry. The hot and sour soup was different, a bit watery, and lacking the traditional taste I was expecting from a chinese hot and sour soup. I would love to see pakoras on the menu, but they said it was only a Ramadan item. I also don't think I saw nihari on the menu; really wished they had these items, especially considering that they are a Karachi inspired restaurant! Very disappointing food!!!!!Went for Sunday brunch/lunch ....from cold chicken pieces to cold nihari...food was cold and greasy with no taste except lost of garam masala which burns your tummy.....Not a single grilled item...Since its a new restaurant its clean so far and ambiance is good but if food is cold and greasy and tasteless, this will not work. Went to Mai Colachi yesterday with my friends and family. Food was overrated. Its below average and not tasty at all. Only good thing is probably is the ambiance. They charged us gratuity with the bill. I didn't get the idea why gratuity is added if this a Buffet. I didn't get table service. I don't mind to pay tips/gratuity for a dine-in even buffet if i don't had to wait for 40 mins to get my bill. Request to owner, make sure what you charge is worth and you are not taking money without providing any service. This is ramadan after all. We met the owners while conducting business elsewhere. They told us they have a restaurant in Plano, so we asked about it because we love trying different restaurants. They didn't steer us wrong. The food here (traditional Pakistani) was so good! Dishes are served family style and cooked when it's ordered, so it takes a little while. I suggest starting with the samosas. They were amazing! Went for the Eid buffet and was beyond disappointed! We've been here before and the food was great but the food on Eid was cold! The selection was pathetic to say the least but the quality was as low as it gets. The naans were cold, the goat was old, the mixed vegetables were grocery store frozen ones! Thanks to the proprietors to have started this restaurant here in the DFW area. This is by far the best Indian/Pakistani food restaurant I have been to here in the metroplex. These guys beat the competition by a distance. The quality of food and ingredients, service, cleanliness, and above all the taste of the food are above all other restaurants playing in this domain. We ordered a paneer gravy which was rich, bihari kebab was tender and flavorful, malai kebab was something that kids loved and the breads were amazingly delicious. Went for Sunday buffet today. As soon as walked in, the guy at podium asked if we have reservation, and we said no. He immediately said sorry reservations only. I asked does it say on their website anywhere, as I never knew. I also complained this was our 2nd time coming in to try buffet.. we came 2 weeks ago and On that Sunday there was no buffet.. He changed his stance to, well, no tables r all reserved but if you are ok sitting In a booth for 6. No problem for us, so we finally got seated. The good: 1. Ambiance...clean place.. 2. Halwa was great and puris were nice and fresh brought to table. The Bad: 1. For a $20+ buffet, less then 10 dishes... 2. Chanay were bad..no taste 3. Qeema was very dry and too much garam Masada. 4. Goat paey too greasy..hardly any gravy.. 5. Barbecue chicken was cold... THE ugly: They had 2 servers putting food in plates. No self serve at buffet. Owners will claim covid, but it's probably they want to serve less food and hence save money. Result, there was a line the whole time. Destroys the whole buffet experience. We had the waiter stop by only once.. we had to steal curry and napkins from tables around us. Tea was tasteless. Places like Demassis and Ali Baba offer disposable gloves for self serve buffet experience, so don't give us the covid excuse please. If masks r not required and 100% capacity then why the servers? Quality has gone down from pre pandemic. We ordered Chicken Karahi and they put so much spice that we barely were able to taste karahi let alone finish the dish. We took it home and my wife revamped it and made a better version if it from the same karahi. The fish pakoras had layers of masala in which were barely able to taste the fish. Competition among restaurants will be harder than before as things r reopening and this wont be the way to go forward. Very very disappointed!! We were traveling on Eid day so decided to celebrate our Eid lunch here.It was a bad experience, very disorganized, did not seat people on time, a customer helped them to make a list of guests in waiting and they did not open the buffet till 1:00 pm . When it finally did open it did not have all the dishes described in the above menu. The chat and Haleem did not show up till almost everyone was done eating. The Haleem was so badly burnt that it had a fowl smell and was very bitter. Sorry I could not eat it after one bite.Sheer Khurma and tea never showed up. So left after disappointing two hours, wishing we should had gone somewhere else. One thing I really want to mention was the behavior of a gentleman working there , which was very unprofessional. One of the guest had asked him very nicely if he would remove one of the tables which was in the way of people coming out from getting their food from the buffet line, because there was no room for them to pass, first he said this table is not going to move and when few others guests asked him pass he slammed the table and chair in the middle and then very angrily shoved them by the drinks. Food was OK, definitely not worth the price, definitely lacking in spice. Big question - how are you "out" of pualo rice at 5:30 on a weeknight? Make some more for god's sake. They were obviously pushing the widly overpriced mutton pulao. Pulao is a simple, delicious rice dish that's a staple of the Indo Pak table and not having any was a travesty. If you can make mutton pulao you can make plain pulao, they were obviously trying to push what was probably already old rice. And the staff just stood around in the main dining room having a little social hour the whole time. Just kind of weird to me. All in all this was just a "weird" place - looks really nice, unique menu, they just failed to make it a decent experience. I'd happily pay the prices they ask if the food was good and they actually could produce some rice, for which I'd happily pay. Took the wife there a few weeks ago .. was very unimpressed with the food. The service and decor were great, but the chicken dish we had was awful with the chicken really tough to bite into. The Saag dish had no flavor with kind of a bitter aftertaste. Another dish we ordered had a little bit of meat and lots of sauce - why? We spoke to the owner/manager and mentioned this and he was very apologetic and offered to replace any of the items to find something to our liking. One of the top Pakistani restaurants with their own recipes that actually depict Pakistan's various flavors combined with good quality meats and produce. Their Malai Chicken is out of the world. Picky eaters when it comes to desi restaurants :) But wanted to let you know we loved the food / service and ambience yesterday ... 10/10! Peshawari Karahi was bomb ! Thanks to Rai Salman khan from management who made it with extra gravy to our preference with other menu items we ended our meal with Gulji's famous coffee cake which they are offering . New Favorite Restaurant! My wife and I never go on dates, mostly because I'm married to her...... why do I need to take her on a date? So when we do I want to make the most of it....as it won't happen again for a while We usually go to restaurants that we've been to a bunch of times. Never explore, never try new things (Texas Steakhouses, Super American etc.............She's so white she's almost transparent) so when a friend recommend Mai Colachi my response was "My what?" Mai Colachi is the best restaurant in Dallas....maybe the universe! First, the service was fantastic! Mobin (manager there) could tell we looked like deer in headlights reading the menu so he made it a point to ask questions about what we like, dislike, allergies, What our favorite 90s TV show was to ensure he could make a recommendation that we would enjoy. Second, the food was amazing. I think at certain points during the dinner I considered renouncing my American citizenship so I could move to Pakistan and be closer to Pakistani food. Then I realized that my wife may not like that I moved away and more importantly what if Mai Colachi makes the greatest Pakistani food on the planet? then it would be farther from me. I wouldn't let that happen to me. Mobin was kind enough to tell us what we were eating but I couldn't hear him over the sound of the wife and I licking our plates like a bunch of Neanderthals but I do recall asking him "If I come back can you put this sauce in my toothpaste thingy.........I need to brush my teeth with it, it's so freaking delicious" He thinks I was kidding...... Third, their fruity drinks are like the nectar of the gods. I got a drink that I can't pronounce...... it started with an S......but my gosh it was freaking delicious. I didn't think something without alcohol would make me have withdrawals but all I can think about is that light blue, fruity mocktail drink with the umbrella on it.........that started with an S. Extremely poor customer service. Seated and food brought out without providing eating utensils despite asking twice. Asked for water twice also which wasn't provided. Waitress completely skipped beverages. Food came out and was very subpar to their own standards. Few pieces of meat with large amounts of gravy. Two people came by to ask "is your order complete?". Informed them both times that we were missing an item (goat Kababs). Server finally came back after 35 mins saying "sorry, we're out." Incredibly disorganized and chaotic. This restaurant is so delicious! I haven't had much Pakistani or Indian food before and after eating here in a recommendation I keep wanting more! The malai boti is my favorite, and I always get that and then try something else new along with it. I've eaten inside, and the ambience is fantastic, very nice interior and great service. Mai Colachi - A big NO NO Last week, two days in a row wedding event at Hyatt Regency Dallas, food catered by Mai Colachi. Words are not enough to explain the noxious quality of food and despicable service. Kabab served were stale and when asked they didn't have any justification. Food was short and cold, Mai Kolachi literally disgraced and disrespected honorable hosts and guests alike. Do not ever cater from this no-conscience and remorseless restaurant. Same low grade performance at their restaurant in Plano multiple time. The owners have no shame or respect. Please avoid them otherwise they are destined to ruin your memorable events. Do not hesitate to share your experiences to create awareness. Depraved must be rooted out they are disgrace to community with their evil sense of business.
