We've been hearing about this place for a while and finally tried it out. We came for the Sunday Brunch. Overall, brunch was ok - we went at around 2 and brunch is over at 3 so the food trays were empty on a lot of them. The staff was niece enough to bring us what we wanted from there right to the table. Food is nice and tasty, spicy (which I love). Their chicken keema, nihari, paya, and kheer were what I enjoyed the most. They bring you fresh puri's and parata's to the table as needed. We also ordered the short ribs off the menu which had mixed opinions. The meat was well seasoned but you could taste the raw spices like they hadn't cooked all the way. Tried this place for the second time in two weeks. First experience was ok. Place is clean and atmosphere is good however the food had little flavor. Second time around on Saturday, place was packed, service was super slow- infact folks who came after us were served before us. The food was again bland. This is an upscale Pakistani restaurant based in Houston. I checked it out with a few friends who were fasting for Ramadhan. It's by reservation only from what I understood from my friend. The service was gracious and food savory. There was a buffet for 25$ but no a la carte options this evening. They had traditional appetizers out on every table along with two different drinks (rose flavored and mint/lime). My personal favorite was the beef PAYA (oxtail soup/marrow) and reshami chicken (creamy Alfredo like dish). There are tons of meats and 2 vegetarian items in the buffet line up. If I could I give them negatives in all parts i would , food+service and promises they made when we placed the order,they messed up my daughters wedding from food prep to the services they provided + the bad behavior and aggressive talking style. Not doing what was promised, and not contacting us long after wedding dinner was messed up not even apologizing or at least agreeing to the facts, even when we payed in advance full payment and mentioned of concern of serving our guests in a manner we wanted. Tried mai colachi again today food way better than the buffet. Definitely will be coming back. The food portions are family sizes so 1 handy will feed four people. Ask for mason he deserves a raise! Mason is the Best server there the girl who is a server in the hijab needs to be Retrained had her last time did refill our waters or check up on us. Or even ask how we were doing. I am so surprised by the low stars. We came here on a Friday night and service was great. We ordered the malai kabobs, masala chops, special short ribs, BBQ shrimp, Caolachi chops, reshmi handi, Baluchi mutton and mutton pulao. Malai kabobs were like buttah. Seriously have to try it. The masala chops were melt in your mouth and had a nice bite to it. Colachi chops and short ribs were sweeter but still amazing taste. BBQ shrimp were like regular shrimp I could make at home but still yummy. Reshmi handi was good but a little heavy. Baluchi mutton was great as well. I would return just got the malai kabobs. This restaurant is right next to Pho Texas, my favorite Vietnamese restaurant near my house. I went by there one day to eat, but my husband doesn't like Indian food, so we couldn't eat there. I found out Door Dash delivers for this restaurant, so I decided to do that. I don't eat meat and there are so many meat dishes on the menu and I found Shrimp(I eat some shrimp, not a lot, but if they have vegetable options, I'd order that instead). I really liked their Shrimp dishes. I find Indian and Pakistani cuisines are similar and I like them a lot and I'm so glad there is one near my house for me to try. I feel so blessed to live in a city with so many different background of people from all over the world and I get to experience their culture and food. Catering was worst, bad food quality, commitments were not fulfilled as per contract, worst customer service, no ownership of mistakes, bad attitude toward customers. DO not use them for any catering needs they make big promises however unable to deliver on them, huge disappointment for your important events, and you will not be able to do anything at that time, they shrug their shoulders and move on, no ownership of mistakes and no refunds. To say I was disappointed in Mai Colachi would be understatement. In the words of my favorite childhood author R.L. Stine: Reader beware, you're in for a scare(-ily long review). Before I even begin to talk about food, I need to address the service. They make a big show out of taking COVID seriously by having customers do a temperature check before they can enter the restaurant. Despite that, their own employee working the front refused to wear his mask properly. He had it hanging under his mouth, and when he noticed a customer looking, he readjusted the mask... to sit under his nose instead. It would almost be funny if we weren't still in the middle of a raging pandemic. What kind of a message does it send when the face of the restaurant, who is the one interacting directly with customers and handling to-go orders, can't even wear a mask properly? It inspires zero confidence that the owners or management are enforcing a mask policy in the kitchen. In regards to placing our order, we were told that the estimated time would be 25 minutes. I showed up after 30 minutes (just in case the order wouldn't be ready exactly on time)... only to be told our order still wasn't ready at all. I was told to wait another 10 minutes, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited in my car a little longer. I enter the restaurant 15 minutes later... only for the guy at front to still not be ready with my order since they were "sorting out the payment"(???) At this point I had placed my order 45 minutes ago. Now, all that is forgivable if the food itself is good. Sadly, the impression our entire family had with the food ranged from "mediocre at best" to "some of the blandest desi food" we had ever eaten. Some overall thoughts: the Masala wings were fine. Not amazing, but probably the best thing we had (the cut-up carrot flowers are a nice touch). The masala fries, however, were bland beyond belief. The Chicken 65 was shockingly lacking in spice. I have had many Chicken 65 dishes in my life; I would rank this one firmly towards the bottom. Their Peshwari Karahi was far too oily, and like most of their dishes, lacking in overall flavor (notice a pattern here?) The Chicken Tikka Handi was similarly oily, and the chicken itself was tough and over cooked. Honestly I could go on and on about how disappointing the food was (don't even get me started on the fish), but I think I've made my point. There's far too much competition for Desi restaurants in Plano for us to even consider going back. Save your time and money, and consider going to literally any other Indo Pak restaurant instead. read more

My wife and I didn't know what to order and our server Noor explained everything very well and most importantly had the patients with me asking her many questions. The owner came around to check on us and made sure everything was good. From the cleanness of the restaurant, food, and amazing serves I am happy to give this place a 5 star! In one word: overhyped Mai Colachi tries to be a upscale indo-pak restaurant however only their Karahi are good. We got the butter chicken, beef Bihari kabob, and chicken tikka boti however making it at home with Shan masala is better and cheaper. They used the chicken tikka boti inside the butter chicken to cut corners and each dish is really meant for maybe 1 person. Bihari kabob was barely a skewer. Very nice ambience, quality food, professional service, and helpful. It was raining and we came from Katy for Mother's Day celebration but without any reservation. They were very kind to accept our last minute presence and invited us into their premise 10 minutes before opening time. Highly recommended. Every dish (including desert) to die for!!! We dined in and ordered: Mix Grill Platter - came with a basket of assorted Naans and two different types of chutneys Balochi Chicken Karahi - Recommended by the server since we wanted something mild that kids could also enjoy Mix Grill Platter had an assortment of beef and chicken kababs and boneless chicken tikka. Very flavorful and chutneys definitely spot on. Kids loved the garlic and sesame seed naans. To me, naans were a little too thin and crispy. I like my naans a little soft. Balochi chicken karahi was surely not mild. Plus, the flavor was ok. I have had better chicken karahis. The customer service was slow but the servers were courteous. The food were amazing. The price for the food? Maybe a bit over the top. The butter chicken was extremely creamy and flavorful comparatively speaking with other restaurants. The goat that I have ordered is also very flavorful with the cracked pepper and the bit spicy after taste. Keep in mind, they can make it as spicy as you like, as long as you requested. The naan that they offered are also in a separate charge along with the rice. Ordering the actual entree does not come with anything to eat it, so it forces the customer to purchase extra items on the side to really be able to consume the dish itself -- which I have relatively absurd due to how costly the dishes are to begin with. My mom told me I had to try this place but didn't tell me it was so elegant/fancy so I showed up in borderline pajamas and ratchet hairstyle, only to be embarrassed by how fancy the place was when I walked in. Nonetheless, they still treated me so kindly. And my mom wasn't wrong - the food was amazing! I loved the Colachi Karahi and the Chinese fusion food. Will come back to try their Handi plates. We had the lunch buffet on Sunday ($18ish per person.) pricey but this is upscale place with excellent service. Lots of meat items... I am not sure if this is ideal place for vegans/vegetarians. Traditional pakiatani sunday breakfast of halwa puri cholay it was great! The buffet came is naan, paratha, puri served at your table. We got to restaurant at 2:47pm and buffet ends at 3 but restaurant manager and staff kept it open and brought us fresh Sindhi biryani right to our table. Meat is cooked perfectly and flavors are Pakistani traditional Sindhi and Baluchi style. The menu also has seafood option which is good to see at Karachi restaurant. The lauki halwa was incredible. I have gone to this restaurant twice now. Once for the a la carte at a week night and the second time on the Sunday Buffett to give them a second chance. The buffet was a terrible experience. They cannot manage the rush. The line is so long to get food. The food is extremely spicy. The intention is that people cannot eat much because of the high spice level. The food is kind of cold. Nihari was tasteless. Chicken tikka is bland. Mostly chicken items served. No goat, lamb or Kababs. Just go to Dimassi's Mediterranean Buffet it's much better. And they won't try to save the cost by serving chicken. There was a guy who came to our table and was trying to convince us like a car salesman to order any kind of juice. It's their way of making more money because no drinks would be included with the buffet. THIS RESTAURANT IS A RIP OFF. Overpriced for no reason. Nothing so special offered for which they charge so much. Just go to Al Markaz in Carrollton. In Mai Colachi The waiter refused service my father to bring Halwa to the table. He said you're supposed to get on your own from the buffet area. Ok then why the F do you charge a mandatory 15% gratuity when your waiters don't want to serve the customers. I have been visiting their location in Karachi and Houston for years and had a good experience. I went to Plano location last week, had goat kadai with plain naan, very disappointed. Kadai taste was horrible, lot of grease and burned onions in the kadai. Went yesterday again to give an another chance, ordered beef nihari with garlic naan. I couldn't taste nihari, there were three cubes of meat floating in the sea of oil. it was disgusting. Had samosa as starter, samosas were ok but the sause taste like picante Mexican salsa. DISAPPOINTED!!! Went to this restaurant last weekend. Disappointing experience. The food has no taste. Paneer Karahi had minimum small cube sized Paneer, Chicken Karahi had small pieces of chicken (kids size). "How much does it cost to add decent size/quantity of Panner/Chicken in whole Wok? The quantity reflected gravy only in the karahi. (Owner believes in making money and not putting any efforts to bring up the quality). The price being charged is only for the ambience but this restaurant sucks towards taste of the food. The meat was hard to chew. The waitress mentioned 6 times that we make it from the scratch. Why would you even mention that? The food was not fresh. I will not recommend anyone. The only thing I would recommend would be the Lassi"s. The guy I believe must be the owner representative asked me how is the food with the sad face expression. The list could go on. Went today to the overly hyped up Mai Kolachi in Plano this afternoon for their weekend buffet. I have to say-- you can invest all you want into "ambience" and coordinating outfits for your servers-- but if the food isn't on point and you don't treat all your customers equally, it's a total waste of time and money. On top of that, the low quality food being offered is at a ridiculous price. Higher then almost all other restaurants in the area (both desi and non desi). Let's start off with the buffet. A selection of standard brunch offerings along with some curries and rice. Not one mutton/goat or lamb dish? Not even one grilled item? For the price being charged, I would expect at least one-- if not both, of these items to be on the menu. Furthermore-- many items were chicken-- another cost cutting measure. The naan was so hard and super dense. Nothing like the light and fluffy naan that one envisions. Puri and paratha was brought to our table after requesting the servers almost 4 times. Again, a disappointing-- cold and dripping in grease (more then what's normal). Furthermore, every single item was completely tasteless and bland. To top it off, the dessert wasn't even sweet? I think the chef might have forgotten to add in sugar to the knock off "lab-e-shireen". The chai was overly and extremely bitter-- so disgusting. Aside from all of this, we asked when we were seated if we could order from the menu instead of doing the buffet. We were told that only the buffet was being offered at the time and we could not order off the menu. A few moments later, I noticed the table behind us getting served separate dishes from the back which were not on the buffet menu. This is absolutely unprofessional in my book and so rude. I just had one of the most quietly pleasant experiences at Mai Colachi. This was our first time here. This Indo-Paki cuisine restaurant is a hidden gem. We started off with two mango lassi drinks. If you are unfamiliar it is a signature drink from the Indo-Paki culture made with yogurt and mango- very delicious, thick and creamy delight. For our meal my mom ordered the Bihari Kabob beef (very tender beef strips w mustard oil & other spices you can mash into your naan and throw some fresh onion on top) me the Chicken Malai Boti (definitely "melt-your-mouth" chicken breast in some creamy marinade but it's not slimey or gooey-also mash that in your naan throw some onion on top and dip) and for the little one we took the nuggets off the kids menu option as the spices are too plentiful for young tastebuds. As a spice-loving adult I can tell you the flavors were bombastic, not too spicy and I could taste every flavor. The garlic naan is separate and for these two dishes 3 was the perfect number to order. You can also choose from other naan breads we just prefer the garlic flavor and the little pieces of garlic on top---so yum!! The meat folded into the naan and dressed with onion to taste then dipped in a tomato/pepper spice sauce was so good we ordered more sauce! It's perfectly washed down with their bottle room temperature water (easy on the tummy and perfect for digestion.) We had a wonderful dinner. The atmosphere was interesting. You feel like you're outside but you have the luxuries of indoors. The lighting is warm and the family environment is strong. There were a lot of other families around but it wasn't annoyingly loud. It was the most chill, peaceful late dinner environment experience I've had in a while. The entire place was very clean and the servers as well as the buss boys/girls were very polite and attentive. The prices were also very reasonable and we don't feel bloated or overly full and we are not hungry as well. Me with my family are going to this restaurant past few times. So as usual our favorite dish Chicken Reshmi handi, Chicken peshwari karahi, fried rice & naan. But after waiting for 30min when we got the food we were very disappointed after seeing the quantity of the food. Moreover Chicken Reshmi handi had not a single piece of Chicken. When we called the server he replied may be the menu changed & that's why instead of Chicken piece they added keema this time!
